    The Serpent Rogue offers a fun and relaxing game that is part adventure and part sandbox. Whether you’re here for the gameplay or the atmosphere, I think you’ll enjoy your stay.

    The Serpent Rogue is a clever little title that has plenty of polish. Whilst it can be a little tricky to gain a foothold, I found plenty to discover and do within what is admittedly a small world. There's some nice ideas on display and the presentation helps keep things relaxed and charming. Completing objectives feels rewarding and discovering new recipes can sometimes feel essential. This will not be to everyone's tastes but I enjoyed most of my time with it.

    A cool aesthetic. There are a lot of interesting possibilities with the alchemy. The discoveries can be fun

    Bad-
    The gameplay feels aimless and lacks a sense of direction. The combat is so bland

    Thoughts-
    The Serpent Rogue succeeds in making a challenging game that leaves enough things unexplained to feel like a constant mystery, but I can definitely see it struggling to hold the attention of most gamers past those few introductory hours. If you really like survival games and/or chipping away at understanding a game’s mechanics on your own, I think it might fit very well into your library. Sadly, I don’t think it does nearly enough to cater to very many other sensibilities than that. The combat and crafting aren’t particularly fun, the story isn’t particularly engrossing, and despite some moderately addicting loops here and there the progression oscillates a bit too much between being decent and dragging its feet.    … Expand
