Amazing game. I’m so glad that this came to PS Plus Extra/Premium, or else I might not have tried it. I didn’t put down the controller for about 6 hours the first time I played it. It’s full of heart, awesome abilities and physics-based gameplay, amazing soundtrack and adventuring. HIGHLY recommended.

Wow. It is so, so rare that developers put so much heart into a game. From the music, story, and even to the visuals this game oozes genuine love. In a time where micro transitions rule the games industry, it’s nice just to have a simple game with almost all items available to earn in game. Takes me back.

The game has the sweetest charm and the most heartwarming story, it’s respectful to the cultures it homages and the music is some of the best I’ve heard in an indie game! The gameplay of soul jumping never feels stale and is a creative form of locomotion and combat.

There’s a lot of room for improvement which is a good thing when the first instalment into Awaceb’s small studio has already ticked many boxes that a lot of games don’t. Graphics: For its style it’s perfect, Zelda is the closest thing and I’d lean on BotW and Wind Waker the most. The sea looks incredible and you can explore it in many ways. The raft is a one man Sea of Thieves pirate ship where you can drop your anchor at anytime, adjust your sail for speed and hop off and warp into a bunch of animals to go exploring or deep sea diving. The lighting is exceptional, seeing the sun illuminate the clouds in front of it in any location of each island is a sight to behold if you can kick back and be adventurous. Music score: Award worthy. The music is both true to the games feel and if you’re like me you can get lost in it so easily. It has the perfect blend of paradise and wonder mixed with a family party vibe depending on your location and activity you’re currently doing. I’d be more amazed if you haven’t already noticed it fits well and isn’t just a cheap gimmicky soundtrack thrown together unrelated to the games atmosphere.
Innovation ideas: While BotW has new ways for combat and play style using the slate, Tchia has the ability to transform yourself into a number of items/ objects and animals to mimic their movements or if it’s an object then you can see how good the physics are. Room for improvement on some of these but still it’s a step in the right direction. Flying around as a bird exploring the islands is the best feature, I’m not too far in to say the soul jumping will later last as long as you want but I sure hope we can and also glide without a stamina bar too. That will keep me playing for longer if so.
Enemies & Story: I am very early stages into the game but so far the gangs of enemies are easy to take out, the main bad guy had a great introduction and better than my favourite Little Big Planet game which was 2. It grabbed my attention even though he squashed a crab which got my back up a little after the loveable one from the trailers but I’ll get my revenge later on I’m sure. Currently I’m too engrossed swinging off trees/ flying around, climbing buildings and jumping off. I’ve got to go back for my trophies which I left at my house to play the claw machine. Im loving the customisable outfits which are plenty! More to come tomorrow and especially over the weekend when I have more downtime but I’m already practicing melodies for a cool video cut I’ll post at the weekend. Review Score: I feel Tchia deserves a solid 8, anything lower than a 7 comes down to subjective reviews but anything lower than a 5 isn’t appreciating the work that has gone into this game and it isn’t a broken mess. So 6+ review scores are low but believable, 7-8 is where it’s at. I would top it to a 9 simply for the awesome soundtrack and pure passion project this has clearly been. It’s been my most wanted game for a long time and I hope the team work on a sequel to this over Sifu/ Scorn or any other that Kepler their parent company has made. Tchia is the crown, Sifu is the wearer and Scorn… won’t ruin my review. 10/10 from me for pure hope that this game receives a follow up. I’ve downloaded for free via PS+ Extra and bought it to help the developers as much as I can. Yes I’m the guy on Twitter who’s been liking each post for 2 years now and to everyone on the Awaceb team my hats off to you!

A game with a lot of soul and love put into it. It reminded me of the good old days of 3D platformers. The colors are vibrant and the lightning is very well done. It's a little short. I hope they make a sequel.

Tchia is a mostly successful effort and well worth your time if you're looking for a calm open-world experience. Despite some moments that feel a little misjudged and leave a sour taste, the game is charming with a likeable atmosphere and fun gameplay. It might be a bit too large for what it offers and gets tiresome towards the end, but the first few hours are strong enough for me to recommend.

Out of the perspective, that this is an indie game, made by a small group of people: My expectations were high for this game before it even came out, but after playing it for a few hours, I have to say that it definitely exceeded everything I have thought about. What a lovely game! I'll admit, it's a little slow to start, and I could have done without so many rhythm sections, but this game is such a joy to play. Some of the other reviews decry this as 'just another BotW clone,' but only so far as it's open world and has a glider. Soul Jumping is the main mechanic and once you get the hang of it you won't even really use the glider anymore. What a lovely game! I was expecting a small scale very small game with limited options (since it's from a small team) but instead I got a open-world where I can play as every animal and object I want, with beautiful storytelling, beautiful landscapes, multiple activities. And more importantly, you just feel GOOD when you play this.

Tchia is a great little indie game with lots of heart. At first the map can seem a bit overwhelming because you can't run, but once you realize you can "soul jump" into literally ANY object on the island and bounce all over the place, traversal becomes MUCH more satisfying!!! The music, atmosphere, and graphics are amazing for this indie title! Don't skip it!

Tchia is an unabashedly cozy and wholesome game featuring beautiful and scenic island locales to explore. The small development team at Awaceb, this is their 2nd game, set out to deliver a love letter to their home and were mostly successful in showcasing the uniqueness of their home islands.

You play as Tchia, a young girl with the ability to soul shift into animals and even inanimate objects at will, on a quest to rescue her father from pirates/monsters? (its kind of unclear) The story here is serviceable and the voice work definitely sounds appropriate for how the locals may speak in this area. Almost everyone you meet out in this world is cordial and relaxed, which lends to how laid back the actual gameplay feels also.

Tchia is able to shift into animals and objects in the world for short amounts of time, such as birds, fish, rocks, coconuts, lanterns, etc. These abilities greatly open up the speed of the exploration as the animals move so much more quickly and fluidly through the environment than Chia can. Flying over the scenic mountains and vistas or swimming through the various reefs are wonderful experiences. Upgrades are scattered throughout the world which allow you to inhabit this objects longer or increase your own stamina for climbing, diving, and gliding. I do wish the world was a little more denser in terms of its animals, it can be a little frustrating when there is no fish or bird nearby. Luckily all types of animals are able to be stored into Tchia's backpack for quick and easy use, just don't forget to restock them there as bag space is very limited.

The story and gameplay here, though, is completely secondhand to the general vibes and aura of the islands. The graphics and lighting do a wonderful job of actualizing the vision of the isle. The vast draw distance allows you to see the other islands at all times, the water is perfectly clear to the sea floor below, and the soundtrack ties it together perfectly. The music feels authentic to the island setting and is well placed in moments of sailing and exploration.

The gameplay is not without its faults, instructions and directions range from completely in your face obvious to being vaguely obtuse on how to proceed. The various minigames are also fairly boring, Tchia is able to carve wooden stumps, play along in musical sequences, and perform various challenges for the slingshot, boat, and diving. Luckily the developer likely knew of the simple nature of the game and every gameplay sequence is skippable in the menu options. I routinely skipped the simplest sequence, the music ones, in favor of getting back to exploring the islands. The rewards unfortunately don't really drive you forward to want to 100% explore the map, as they are primarily used for new cosmetics for Tchia or her boat.

Overall, by the end of the experience I was ready to put down Tchia and move on. There was just a slight lack of engaging content to propel the game forward. I did appreciate my time and the beauty and comfort of the locales.

I honestly struggle to like this game even though I really wanted it be good. I honestly feel like a sucker for marketing experts these days as this is the second sony exclusive I got burnt this year. By no means is this game as terrible as my experience with Forspoken. Tchia as a game actually has a soul and a great concept, unfortunately it falls apart in delivery and story telling. TheI honestly struggle to like this game even though I really wanted it be good. The world although is not a graphical masterpiece but it is lovely to look at and the art style is good. The controls I admit could be better and I think other gamers will agree here but it's not terrible for me. A lot of game content is copy and pasted and brings no value to most gamers out there, bit of a time waste. The game at launch has some levels of bugs and performance issues although it hasn't affected my playthrough that much, but I've heard others have had it worse. Not sure who I can recommend this game to... I guess if you are already subscribed to PS Plus then it is worth a try but think twice before spending $25 to purchase it. Expand

Nothing special. It’s an open world indie title and you can clearly see the Zelda inspiration. The traversal is slow and because it’s open world they just had to fill the map with pointless collectibles that add no value to the actual game. Also why is it running on 30fps? A game like this should be locked 60.

But the game quickly tends to devolve into a subpar open world experience complete with all the trappings that usually come with that description. Boring mission design and repetitive side activities can quickly come together to make this experience a dull time, which is a shame considering that Tchia could have been so much more.

    The good:
    -The art direction.

-Exposure to a place and a culture a global audience on a whole probably aren't very familiar with.
-The depth and range of cosmetics (which are entirely free) is pretty impressive.

    The meh:
-While the art direction is a plus, the actual graphics are pretty mediocre. Low poly models with pretty simple textures abound.
-The performance on default settings (and the only option on release) is at a noticeably choppy framer rate. It is possible to switch to a higher performance mode (after release patched), with a noticeable increase in frame rate, however the drop in graphics quality is pretty jarring.
-The music segments are a nice inclusion from the perspective of fitting into the flow of the game - serving as a nice segway from one part of the plot to the next - but, the actual controls are more difficult than they probably should be.
-The soul meter is a questionable gameplay mechanic. It seems to only exist to slow the speed at which you can gather collectibles. It refills automatically to halfway of your current meter and can be filled all the way by eating a meal from a stand or a fire, neither of which require any in-game resource to do.
-Fast travel is here, but the number of destinations (constrained to boat docks) is entirely too limited.

    The bad:
-Though the collectibles aren't required for the most part, there is a collect-a-thon aspect which is a real slog and appears to exist only to pad out the length of the game. The limited number of fast travel points and the soul meter put you into a gameplay loop of traveling to the closest dock, possessing a bird, then flying to the nearest collectible, possessing another bird, flying to the nearest collectible, rinse and repeat.
-The combat barely exists and has no dimension. It's so limited that it's honestly puzzling why it was included at all.

I was blown away by Tchia. I'm really glad I got the opportunity to play this incredible game, which has obviously been lovingly put together by an excellent team. There were one or two teething issues when I played Tchia, otherwise it was a flawless experience. Once I got into the game (which didn't take long), I became addicted thanks to the amazing open world gameplay and the story you eagerly get absorbed in. If you like games that has a bit of everything in it, such as exploration, music, collectibles and loads more, then Tchia is a great game to invest in.
