Red Matter 2 builds on the solid foundation established by its predecessor, giving us even better visuals, more interactivity, and all new devious puzzles to solve. It’s a true showcase of Sony’s PSVR2 platform, and a fantastic sequel to boot.

This is a glorious VR game. It will take you about 5 to 6 hours to finish, but you can easily lose time just taking in everything you see. The only niggle with the game is a lack of replayability. There is nothing extra to entice one to play again. However, the journey and spectacle of a single run is totally worth it. If you are looking for a premium VR experience that fills you with a sense of awe and wonder, Red Matter 2 is the ticket. Developer, Vertical Robot is one to keep an eye on.

A sci-fi adventure in which you’re trying to find an alien substance on seemingly abandoned planets. The graphics are amazing, as is the soundtrack and the atmosphere. The puzzles feel akin to escape room games, varied and interactive. And there’s even some shooting!

Graphics are best I have seen on VR so far.
Music that just fits in every moment.
Good ratio of voiced and written story content which doesn't let you get out of immersion. Story is averege length but its common with vr titles. I beat it in 2 days and now waiting for their next game.

Red Matter 2, developed by Vertical Robot, brings an unparalleled visual experience to virtual reality gaming. While also available on PC VRRed Matter 2, developed by Vertical Robot, brings an unparalleled visual experience to virtual reality gaming. While also available on PC VR platforms, the PS5 version boasts enhanced graphics that make it one of the most visually impressive games on the PS VR2 platform. The game's beauty is immediately evident upon donning the headset, standing toe-to-toe with top titles like Horizon Call of the Mountain and Resident Evil Village. However, Red Matter 2 offers more than just stunning visuals; it excels in various other aspects as well.

Set in an alternate version of the Cold War, Red Matter 2 follows Sasha, an agent representing the fictional Atlantic Union. Sasha embarks on a mission to explore the abandoned space station of the fictional country Volgravia in search of his presumed dead friend. The attention to detail, from propaganda posters to the Cyrillic alphabet, creates a dense and sometimes eerie atmosphere, although the game steers clear of jump scares. As the plot unfolds, it takes a darker turn, adding depth to the narrative.

The core gameplay revolves around puzzle-solving as Sasha navigates the space station. Thick cables guide players to the levers, ports, and devices needed to progress. The puzzles resemble a meticulously crafted escape room, offering a challenging yet rewarding experience. Interacting with objects is done through simulated controllers equipped with grippers and gadgets, providing an immersive connection between the player and the game world. The physics engine adds realism, allowing for manipulation of small elements and opening up new possibilities.

The language barrier within the game world adds to the immersive experience. Sasha's translator function and item scanner become essential tools, enabling players to decipher Volgravian text and unravel the mysteries of the station. Retrocomputers and their minimalist interfaces often hold the key to solving puzzles, providing an engaging and authentic experience.

Red Matter 2 expands beyond puzzles, incorporating sections where players must operate machinery, handle laboratory equipment, and assemble tools. The game encourages exploration, with manuals scattered throughout the station acting as guides. The absence of hand-holding enhances the satisfaction of solving these intricate puzzles. Platforming sections, featuring a jetpack, offer a refreshing break from the cerebral challenges.

The storytelling and pacing in Red Matter 2 are commendable. Sasha's ongoing communication with Beta, an allied agent, keeps players engaged throughout the journey. The voice acting, predominantly between Sasha and Beta, is superb and enhances the immersive experience. Each location in the station serves a purpose, with items and crew notes providing glimpses into the events preceding the crew's disappearance. The plot builds suspense, culminating in a memorable conclusion.

While combat is the weakest aspect, it is not a dominant feature. Players face durable robots and drones, which can be frustrating due to limited accuracy and the need for constant cover. However, Red Matter 2 prioritizes puzzle-solving and atmospheric storytelling, offering a unique and immersive experience that captivates players.

In summary, Red Matter 2 delivers an awe-inspiring VR adventure. Its breathtaking visuals, intricate puzzles, and engaging narrative make it a standout title on the PS VR2 platform. Although combat could have been further refined, the game's overall strengths overshadow this minor flaw. For those seeking a dark and immersive journey through an alternate Cold War setting, Red Matter 2 is a must-play experience. Prepare to be enthralled as you uncover the secrets of the Volgravian station in this VR masterpiece.

That said,It's not the longest game. 5-7 hours depending on how you play, which is similar to what we're used to with VR specific games. That said, this game really looks and plays great. Visually, it's witchcraft. I hope other development teams learn from Vertical Robot. They're just 2 full time employees. What they've done here is nothing short of miraculous. Gameplay is fantastic. Much of the environment is interactive. Not quite at HL Alyx levels but certainly well above anything I've seen before on Playstation VR. Great experience. Puzzles not too hard, which is just how I like it. This is a PSVR2 MUST BUY. Expand

Review Title: A Stellar Journey with Room for More

"Red Matter 2" for PSVR2 presents an impressive foray into the realms of space and dystopia. The game is a visual treat, boasting of some of the most awe-inspiring visuals I have encountered in the VR gaming world. The graphics are truly outstanding, demonstrating the remarkable capabilities of the PS5 and PSVR2 system.

Adding to the visual marvel is the excellent voice acting, which breathes life into the characters and the game world. The dialogue delivery is compelling, making for an immersive narrative experience.

However, the game is not without its flaws. The puzzle solutions are rather linear, leaving little room for creative, out-of-the-box thinking. This, in turn, impacts the game's replayability, as there's not much to return to once you've traversed its path. The game's difficulty level is also on the lower side, making it less challenging than one might desire from a puzzle-adventure game. Furthermore, the overall gameplay duration is rather short, leaving players longing for more.

Speaking of more, I am eager to see if any DLC or additional content will be released in the future. I feel that more exploration, particularly flying around different planets, would greatly enhance the game's depth and replay value.

In conclusion, I give "Red Matter 2" an 8 out of 10. It is an overall excellent game with fantastic visuals and voice acting. However, it loses a point each for its lack of replayability and low difficulty level. Regardless, it remains a must-play for any VR enthusiasts, providing an unforgettable journey into the farthest reaches of space.
