Amazing and very immersive apocalyptic game! Graphics are really good. Story is great. Gameplay fantastic and music really nice. Just a little short is the only complain I have. If they added two more interesting levels it would be masterpiece for me because I really dig the genre of this game.

I was furious and abandoned the game for some months. Finally I decided to replay from the start on the new version. Then I reach the Caspian chapter and near the finish i get stuck on a game breaking bug that has not been fixed years after the release of the game. "The proposed solution" is to replay the chapter that I have already replayed and took hours to reach this point (with no guarantee that it won't happen again) or skip the chapter and loose all progression and trophies from then on.
If I knew all this I would never bother playing this game. Also the game has only auto save so there is NO way to go back to a reasonable point and retry.
To top everything off, the unlock chapters feature disables achievements on your save slot without a proper warning.
    Feck this game.

The controls feel clunky, dated, and unintuitive. I constantly feel like my character is walking through mud. Running feels awkward and is assigned as a toggle function. What is this 1995? You constantly have to wipe your mask. Fun eh? The story is predictable.

Oh there is a lot of talking in this game. The dialogue is excessive and downright annoying. This game does not look impressive on the PS5. The open world seems too big. Overall, Metro Exodus is one lackluster turd of a game. There are just too many other FPS games that do everything better.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is such an underrated game. Sure, It’s far from perfect. But if you’re a fan of survival/horror and adventure games, then trust me you’re going to love this. It’s so immersive. It starts out okay, but by the end the story has you sunk in. The only downfall is that Arytom is a mute, snd the voice acting is shaky at best. The graphics are very good, especially the last 2-3 levels. My god those levels are suspenseful, creepy and gorgeous. The frame rate was never an issue, no matter what was going on in the game. I didn’t know early on aboht the consequences of killing people with their hands up, so I was left with arytom dying. It all felt sincere and original. The gunplay does take some getting used to, and the game is very hard. And it’s not a true open-world like the make it out to be. Other than that, this is a very good game for the ps5. It’s only $10 on Sony rn Expand

Loved that most of the action took place above ground, but it still felt like a metro title, and ofc you still got to visit metro and other areas as well, sometimes feeling like an action shooter, other times as an fps horror game, keeping a perfect balance. Characters likeable, enjoyed every minute between missions just hanging around in the train. Not gonna spoil anything - if you are unsure if you want to play it or not, most definitely easy recommend. The previous episodes are recommended as well - I'd start from 1. You do feel the generation gap, and first 2 games are a lot more harder than the last one, but it's all worth it.

This is no Call of Duty. You will not be mowing down hundreds of enemies as you approach your objective. The crux of this game is stealth and survival. The stealth component works very well. Enemies are not easily startled and playing smart often has rewards further in the game. The surival portion of the game is familiar to the first two Metro games if not a easier. You can pick up crafting items and make some of the things you need in the field or at strategically placed workbenches. The wastelands are littered with metal boxes full of crafting items. As a player, you can find what you need at the expensive of immersion.

Metro Exodus is all about immersion. NPCs have lengthy conversations as you walk by. Stay and listen to their stories or leave and go back to shooting enemies. The immersion extends further into skeuomorphism. Metro Exodus harkens back to a more civilized time when maps looked like maps and gas masks go over the head. This use of real life objects slows down the game but that is part of the point. Metro games are not about blasting through to end. This is an experience.

The story is top tier, one of the best that a AAA shooter can deliver. After Metro 2033, you find out that there is life outside the Metro. Now you get to see it. The plot is broken out into a journey, like an epic poem from the classical era. Each portion of the journey is a different map to explore. The game is not a true open world game, but also does not feel as confining as a corridor shooter. The level design guides the player to objectives, and the lethality of the fauna discourages straying too far off the path. Open world games often feel meandering and pointless. Good gameplay comes from good design.

The shooting and fighting are a bit janky but overall feel appropriate for this world. Each gun has a different feel and unique post-apolocalyptic steam punk designs. Enemy a.i. could be better. In one portion, I am firing a sniper rifle at 6x mangification and the enemies still look like tiny dots. From their perspective, the protagonist might as well be invisible. Yet each of their weapons, no matter a pistol or submachine gun, can hit the protagonist with deadly accuracy. Other times an enemy will get stuck on the terrain or stuck in a climbing loop. Some of the enemies are simply cheap bosses covered in armor with infinite ammo. The saving grace is the surrender system. If you defeat enough enemies, the rest will hold their arms up and surrender. This is a nice break from the suicidal a.i. that run into your bullets.

All in all, Metro Exodus is a top tier game. I am reluctant to call it a shooter. This game has so much more heart and soul than a Call of Duty. Metro Exodus is more of an adventure game that sometimes requires competent shooting skills. The game could use some polish like better enemy a.i., less obvious placement of crafting material, and better models for the giant, irradiated monsters. I am thankful, though, that this game was even created and. In a world of giant coporations buying out every game studio, we need companies that have the freedom to creat these kinds of games. Also, this game was made by a Ukrainian game studio. As I write this review, Ukraine is under seige by Russia and Russian leaders have threatened nuclear war if Western countries intervene. The anti-war message in this game will always be relevant. Please consider donating to relief efforts in Urkaine.

‘Metro Exodus’ is not a ‘First Person Shooter’ (FPS) in the vein of ‘Doom Eternal’ or ‘Call of Duty’, it is about exploration and the discovery and conservation of resources (weapons, ammo and health items).
There are many low-light areas which are gloomy and creepy but when out in the daylight the game is very pretty. Some of the levels are semi open-world (Forest) giving you the opportunity to skip areas or explore areas in an order of your own choosing, whilst some are linear (Metro tunnels).
Game-play could be described as clunky when compared to a FPS like ‘Doom Eternal’ or ‘Call of Duty’ but is totally fine for the more slow-burn feel of this game.
Due to the bleakness and hopelessness I experienced from the story, playing through this game felt like an ordeal. However I persevered in order get to the faint light at the end of the metaphorical tunnel in order to save myself and my friends and to see how the story ends for us.
I don’t rush through games and completed Metro Exodus in 44 hours, there is enough in ‘Metro Exodus’ to tempt me back for another play through on New Game +.
Summary: ‘Metro Exodus’ is a scary, apocalyptic, horror novel compared to the action film feel of ‘Doom Eternal’ or ‘Call of Duty’. I thoroughly enjoyed 'Metro Exodus' even though I'd describe it as gripping more than fun.

This was enough to break all immersion for me. I would keep playing if I found the gameplay enjoyable but I found controls to be unintuitive and convoluted.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I love this game to death. I've played through it 3 times on PS4, for the trophies and the new game plus modifiers, + DLCs, and recently finished my 4th playthrough on PS5 with the free upgrade.
The upgrade is great considering it's free, I couldn't go back to the PS4 version. 60 FPS make a huge difference, RTX brings the lighting to a photorealistic level and makes some scenes, especially indoors, look way better, and that's saying something considering the game already looked stunning. I couldn't stop taking screenshots. The dualsense adaptive triggers make the weapons feel much more real too, and give weight to actions like pumping up the Flamethrower or driving the bukhanka. The ability to turn off motion blur is very welcome and the FOV slider too.
Unfortunately these improvements also bring some new bugs, in addition to those of the original game that have not been fixed. For example, during my playthrough I had a night that looked as bright as day, rain that looked highlighted in an occasion, glowing white balls of twigs in the desert during a sandstorm.
The game does have many rough edges and imperfections. Clunky movement system, not great AI, bugs here and there. The thing about Exodus though is that it has an uneven level of quality: some aspects of the game feel like they were made from a small studio with a low budget (which 4A Games actually is), and others blow other triple A games out of the water. Whether you'll like the game or not depends of whether you value more the things they did right, or the things they did wrong.
Personally, the pros of the game completely overshadow all of its problems. The obsessive attention to detail on the weapons. The effort made to make menus as limited as possible to keep you immersed in the world, giving you an actual phisical map, a notebook, a lighter, with great first person animations for every interaction with your equipment and with the world. The stunning graphics. The unique universe (that you will need to play the first two games of the series to fully appreciate) and the well characterized characters. The great audio design. The innovative and well implemented alternation of linear and open levels in which to get lost in, but still with some of the underground, claustrophobic atmosphere of the first two games. New and old types of mutants, day night cycle, dynamic lighting throughout the whole game, I could go on forever.
Depending on what you look for in a first person shooter, this could be a game you absolutely love. I definitely do.

well, I did not notice any bugs or glitches in game, also it was my first time in metro series. So it was awesome experience, one of the most immersive games with a good story and strong characters.

Guys, my gosh, it's a beautiful game. Ps5 version has awesome graphics, this game is so so so beautiful. The ray tracing is awesome. The story is nice, the only defect is Artyom (main character) He doesn't speak during all the game, he look like a robot. It's aGuys, my gosh, it's a beautiful game. This is the most immersive experience I've had in a game. Recommended play on the PS5's dualsence controller. Usually I skip all the stuff between action in games but I found myself exploring the train for about an hour between missions! The game feels like a more realistic Fallout 4 survival mode.

I would give it a 10 if the Russian voice acting was better and they fixed the gamma issues. There's also a bug where your blood/damage overlay does not recognise increased field of views.

The worst game I've played on PS5 so far. The game is a glitchy mess with lots of game breaking bugs. I had to replay the whole chapter several times because I unable to continue. Gameplay is not good, the presentation is very bad with ridiculously bad voice acting.
The only good thing about this game is the graphics and that's it.

Game is beautiful. Characters are people you care about and want to listen all day. I'm playing the game on ultra hard and I'm having a blast. It feels I'm actually there, it's tense.

Wow I'm blown away, what a gritty beautiful game. So glad I waited to play on ps5. Voice acting is a little off because of translation and pacing. But had such a blast with this game. Loved all the survival elements and awesome environments.

I was so excited to replay Metro exodus on ps5 but this must be joke. Actually it feels like im playing some kind of beta version. I havent experienced so many bugs yet in any other game and this game is here for 3 years lol. Ai is laughably retarded, graphics are decent but some textures look horrible. This was worst dissapointment of my life. 1 point for free nextgen upgrade.

This is the only page for PS5 version, and I have free upgraded version of the Gold Edition to PS5, with all DLCs so its the same thing, and I also made sure game version is PS5, so here is my review:

I really regret buying this game, even on sale, the character animations are so unnatural, the enemy AI is laughably bad, you could be right in front of them or shoot close to them and they still won't see you, the PS5 upgraded graphics are just decent, not great (good ray tracing, but visuals are substandard for a good PS5 upgrade), the dialogue is mediocre, and the sound design is weird, like guns sound good, but punching/shoving doesn't sound right, and it feels like its missing some sounds in some areas (using Pulse 3D headset with 3D audio).

I watched a Metro recap video of the first two games, and played nearly 2 hours of 2033 Redux, and it feels like the developers haven't learned and improved from those games much, they have the same bad animations, same weirdly designed faces, same UI, and same mediocre dialogue.

The reason I even bothered with this game, is because the story I got from the recap is good, and the previews made it look better than it is.

    More complaints:

    - Every mask being cracked, obstructing the view of the player, and having to wipe it so often, is just bad, it should be an option, and the games not realistic to begin with, you don't need to add an annoying aspect of post-apocalyptic masks for the sake of realism, especially when all it does is annoy the player, not add difficultly

    - Doesn't utilize PS5 SSD well for loading times, its pretty slow.

    - According to Digital Foundry comparison, internal resolution is about 80% of Xbox Series X's internal resolution on average, and I feel like having different graphical mode options, like in other PS5 upgraded games would be a better fit.

    - Sensitivity doesn't go high enough.

    - Choosing Russian language doesn't subtitle people talking to each other in the background, so much for world building, same problem in 2033, have to play with English VA, but its pretty bad.

Metro Exodus Complete Edition is the tightest and one of the most beautiful atmospheric and visual experiences you can afford. It is a truly artistic masterpiece that is helped by a solid story and excellent level design. It may be a bit tough and unfitting for certain audiences due to its slow gameplay and big surroundings that may take a long time to get around.

One of PS4’s best and most underrated shooters pulls out all the stops on PS5. A technical marvel that goes full steam ahead on Sony’s new console. [Issue#4, p.76]

Metro Exodus: Complete Edition can cut both ways, and while it's appealing to some of the older fans of the series, it can't keep everybody happy. The extraordinary atmosphere and the great story however may be enough to give it a try.
