When you switch to the receiver, you are slowed down, and this usually ends in a forced interception. 99 speed RB gets caught by a much slower MLB.     This is easily the worst madden. Player ratings done matter. No common sense plays. All CPU Defenders are elite no matter the rating. I wouldn’t waste the money. Gameplay has hit a new low. They focus more on celebrations and the soundtrack than the gameplay and franchise mode. No comp picks or real development

    Probably couldn't have produced a worse game on the market. Clint Oldenburg should never produce another game. It's a shame that they allowed someone that has never played a meaningful snap of NFL football have input on an NFL game. Nothing but cheese and animations. I hope EA goes out of business and the "developers" have to get actual jobs, since it's proof they can't actually develop.

    Probably the most buggy AAA title I've ever seen released on a console. I just bought the game and experienced an issue with not receiving class rep after level 9, so looked it up online. All results were from 4 months ago mentioning that the issue was known and not fixed.

    There is NO excuse for this. Pathetic.

    I'll give this year's roster update a 3/10 only because EA made minimal effort in making some improvements. That said, the few improvements they did both to make are trivial at best.

    Pros:
    - Slightly more Franchise mode capabilities
    - Home field advantage is nice.. but broken

    Cons:
    - Barely improved graphics, per usual
    - Animations are insanely repetitive
    - Buggy as ever

Multiple unconscionable game breaking glitches, save file errors, menu freezes, and game crashes. I’d break the disc in half if it hadn’t been gifted to me by a friend. Avoid at all costs. Not worth a bargain bin $5. This is the type of thing class action lawsuits are made of. I know IMadden 22 is quite possibly one of the worst video games I have played at any point in my life (37).     It's really fun... but could certainly be improved in a number of ways. Little things like the same defensive coordinator guy on both teams.. collision detection... replays often don't show what the most important part (where the feet are etc)

    Goodness gracious. I have been less and less satisfied with Madden games over the years. I now have been buying every two years since every game seems to be the same. But now I might not ever buy again (so I say lol). The game, when on ps4, crashed 4 times in 2 days. On ps5, not so much an issue. However, you have to be on a ps4 if you want to play someone else on ps4. Ps5 and ps4 aren’tGoodness gracious. I have been less and less satisfied with Madden games over the years. I've gone through 5 different times succeeding on drills, failing on drills, answering questions differently, I always got picked by the Jets. Who the hell wants to play for the Jets? It wouldn't be so bad retrying for the team you want if you didnt have to go through all the drills and the two boringFace of the Franchise mode is garbage.     What they need to do is bring back NFL Street. Until then, it is a solid game.

    Not a realistic football game at all. Tries too hard with momentum components, players fatigue too quickly, injuries way too high. Adjusted sliders NEEDED in order to enjoy the football experience of the game, out of game interface sucks.

I won a game 44-7, and the end result was a 0-7 loss. I thought they had patched this bug, and I was about to check out the new scouting update, but then I saw Redditors still complaining about this same issue, today.

    Other than that bug, the AI is so non-existent, both in game and when making roster decisions, that it's depressingly no fun at all. Teams will decide to sign 9 kickers.     They need to end this monopoly of football games and allow other studios to make simulation football games. This is absolutely absurd. They would much rather fix bugs in their Ultimate Team store and sets than fix any of the game play issues which render the game nearly unplayable. Its time to rethink football for video games.

    This game is an improvement over Madden 21, just like Madden 21 is an improvement over Madden 20. However, being slightly better than a terrible game doesn't make it a good game. Franchise Mode finally got an update in a long time since the mode was never updated after Madden 25 but even with the Franchise Mode update the mode is still barebones and still is the same thing ever sinceThis game is an improvement over Madden 21, just like Madden 21 is an improvement over Madden 20. However, being slightly better than a terrible game doesn't make it a good game. Franchise Mode finally got an update in a long time since the mode was never updated after Madden 25 but even with the Franchise Mode update the mode is still barebones and still is the same thing ever since Madden 25.

    Gameplay is still the same ever since EA put Madden on the Frostbite Engine (a First-Person Shooter Game Engine). It's still animation-based and incredibly scripted & the game still doesn't feel or play like a true NFL Simulator. Not to mention that EA signed a 6-Year extension with the NFL for exclusive rights for the Franchise which means we have to wait until 2026 just to see another company make an NFL Simulator. If someone wants to play a licensed NFL Game you can only play this game because of EA's exclusive license with the NFL. JUST PUT ALL OF YOUR BLAME ON THE GAME TOWARDS THE NFL AND EA BECAUSE THEY DON'T CARE AT ALL!!!!

    All-Pro Football 2K8 was the last 2K Football Game, despite the fact the game came out in 2007 & it still features the best gameplay in a Football Game even though the game is unlicensed with no official teams but licensed players. APF 2K8 doesn't have a lot of depth, but the gameplay makes it up for the depth. The 6th-Gen Version of Madden 07 is the greatest Madden EVER because of its depth, the Franchise mode still blows any Modern Madden Franchise away because Madden 07 has over 80+ features that aren't in a Madden Game today. Madden 07's gameplay wasn't great and it didn't feel realistic like the 2K Games, it felt arcade-like but it was at least fun and challenging but it felt better than Modern Madden because it wasn't ruled by scripted animations. Madden 07 lacked in gameplay, but it was made up for its depth. What makes Madden 22 horrible is that it doesn't succeed at either Gameplay or Depth!!

    When you boot up the game, it still shows the same game modes from Madden 21 but EA added a new mode called "Championship Series" but it's just a part of Ultimate Team. When you boot up Championship Series it just takes you to Ultimate Team forcing you start spending your money on MUT packs. P2W Game Modes don't deserve to exist in a fully-priced game like this. There's just another Face of the Franchise story & small Franchise updates with nothing else new. Madden 22's FOTF is lame & you can only play as either a Quarterback or Linebacker (older Madden Superstar modes allow you to play any position even Kicker or Offensive Lineman). You can't change your player's number in College, the cutscenes look like PS3 graphics or worse, the script is so BAD it makes you wanna skip every cutscene & it could force you to stop playing the game in general. When you start the mode it forces you to play Tutorial drills over & over, you can't change the college difficulty, & once you get drafted to the NFL the mode doesn't have any other incentives to keep you playing.

    THERE IS NO CARE PUT INTO THIS GAME & EVERYTHING IS JUST RE-USED FROM OLDER MADDENS OR OTHER EA SPORTS GAMES & ITS STILL FAR BEHIND FROM OLDER MADDEN GAMES!! THE GAME ISN'T WORTH $60 & IT SHOULDN'T BE BOUGHT FROM ANYONE EXCEPT YOUTUBERS, STREAMERS, OR MADDEN SIMPS WHO THINK THE GAME IS GOD-LIKE!!!

There are more problems with the game but those have been what killed it for me. The most i will say is i do like the commentary but after a few game, their scripts become out of wack.     This game is a 0/10. If you demand a release as a franchise player, regardless of how insanely good you are , no teams will be interested and you will be forced to retire. Receivers spend more time stuck on another player than anywhere near the intended route path. This **** is just sad and broken. **** EA , **** Madden please save your money from this scam.

    I’ve gotten disconnected in menus from the EA servers every few minutes, at one point it wouldn’t let me reconnect so I just went to sleep. And you CANNOT play if you’re not connected. Worst gameplay in any game, the menus are nicer but that’s just slapping new menus over the old ones. This is anything but a $70 next gen game, it is a total waste of money and you're better off playing literally any other game. This is the worst game I've played in years.

    Many of the features advertised are invalid and currently removed from the game due to bugs. Halftime adjustments, abilities, franchise, zones.. etc acknowledged as being broken less than a month from launch. Unfinished product sold for full price.

    Again a once great franchise provides a joke of an installment to the community. EA having this exclusivity deal is disgusting. They haven't provided us with anything worth our money and Die hard football fans are left without a game to fill that desire to simulate pro football.

    I was a lot less critical of last year's game because I actually saw a difference in the gameplay from generations going PS4 to 5 but holy sh*t they did nothing with this game gameplay wise. The zones are broken, they can't even implement cover three and have it work right when games made over a decade ago (all pro football 2K8) did it perfectly and didn't need to patch essential things into the game after launch. APF2k8 STILL does heaps better than this game. Such as pass blocking and pocket forming. throwing motions, physics and tackling.

    I've seen lineman run over defenders and then the defenders warp back upright and make a tackle on a guy running full-steam past him..where's the physics there?

    The replays are a slight improvement over the worst replays i've seen in a sports game and yet they're still horrible often cutting out the most important part of a play. I'll break a tackle then get hit sticked but the unintuitive replay system will show the part where i'm running in open field just to track my speed which was the least impressive part of the play.

    Seriously, how does NFL 2K5 still have better replays and presentation. How does a game made on Ps2 have highlights at HF and post game and even highlights from games around the league? but we're suppose to believe that they can't have refs anymore because of memory issues haha we are getting screwed by buying this trash. There is a reason EA won worst company multiple years. If you think this is a good game you either don't know football or you're 12 and didn't experience games before they took the license and opted to release garbage.

    They've taken things out over the years just to put them back in and have them as a back of the box feature like the pro bowl or coaching trees for example. They add MUT **** and cosmetic items like new cleats when the game doesn't even recognize deep routes and defend them propely. Shows you their priorities, it's all about making money and screwing over people who wnat proper football but instead they appeal to the casual gamer or the gamers that care what shoes their Yard player has - the worst type of gamer - so this game gets a 1. Go read the review of the guy who gave it a 10 and that's the type of intelligence you need to believe this is a good game.

    Madden is all MUT, microtransactions, adding modes nobody asked for while neglecting fundamentals, somehow breaking things that worked in previous games, not fixing legacy issues while adding to them, and just one big marketing machine to hide the fact their game sucks.     Hasn’t been a month yet and I regret buying this game. Would crash a lot in franchise mode at coaches game day goal and now it crashes when I just click on franchise to load up. This game is getting worse not better. It’s a copy & paste with added assistant coaches, scouting is the same. Graphics are better but so is the technology in the world so that’s not a selling point anymore

People may think we are being nitpicky whenever it comes to the madden games but whenever you have games from decades before that are better then you are allowed to point out the shortcomings from a product that you already know can be better. I literally get the same tackle animations multiple plays in a row as if everything is scripted, because it is! The way they run routes is so clunky and slow at times that it irritates me. The yard is the same as last year, so what was the point of bringing it back!? Face of the franchise is complete garbage as well. In past maddens we were able to play whatever position you desired. You were able to go to training camp and actually wear training camp gear, go to barbershops, go get tattoos, and etc. it’s so many things missing from this franchise it’s insane. The gameplay is garbage and electronic arts lacks the innovation needed to push the football genre forward in gaming.     The Franchise mode was supposed to be much improved and it was not. Menus are extremely laggy still and gameplay is still completely based on animations instead of really physics like All pro 2k8 a game that was made almost 14 years ago. SMH same exact game 21 was even a little better this **** is ass.

    The Momentum system gives the opposing team credit when you score. When you choose a face for your pkayer, the system gives it a completely different face. The skin tone resets after you go back to the Franchise menu. There is no way    No Hate here, the game just doesn't work. All of these isdues I personally experienced.

    This is not anout the abysmal logic (the computer rushed 8 men on 3rd and 1 when I had 4 recievers then double teamed the TE leaving 3 men completely uncovered). The game programming is pathetic. Regardless of price, it's not worth it because it just doesn't work.    … Expand

    I’m not an avid MUT player, being a fan of simulation football. However in trying it this year whilst waiting to begin the yearly franchise, some of the more glaring issues were shown. With EA problems causing players to be banned, a bug making it unable to visit the marketplace and of course, the elite EA Support to users who were banned for using the Madden companion app. EA have handled the launch of MUT horribly and their consumers are being left to pay the price with bans, delays and just outright disillusionment with the game. Even for those who were lured into pay to play in order to compete with poor matchmaking. A new player with an all bronze team, at the lowest division, will frequently get matched with a ‘god squad’ full of the top overall available cards thus almost forcing a pay to play environment


    The franchise bugs were also a delight, seeing that the previous years interface is still in the game, just layered over by the new interface , the fun new scrolling window in the cfm Home Screen that doesn’t scroll and the inability to assign custom playbooks to a team make it particularly infuriating. However, there remains the potential. The potential that must be realised sooner, rather than later. The season engine is good for its first year of true attention, although some of the scenarios trigger too often and others are straight up outlandish, the base is there to build on and provide some depth to our game. The logic around trades and drafting is still not ideal, but it is clear that an attempt has been made. The new features to franchise, whilst well intentioned, are exactly what we’ve come to expect from madden. A buggy mess that was hastily added on the back of bad publicity. Full of bugs and exploits, but Swami, for all of EAs flaws does listen and try. Whether he’s given any freedom to do anything is another matter tho. Users are still unable to assign a custom playbook, despite generated coaches having a custom book assigned, so we can see the functionality exists, so why not simply open it up?

    The Gameplay

    Well, this is an absolute casserole of nonsense. It is 100% almost certainly close to maybe being sort of a good game. The good things

    Tackling is better. Still not perfect, as you’ll see a giant back get tackled by a corner with ease far too often, but that corne best not be trying to hit stick Derek henry. QBs are allowed to move again. The game might be a bit easy vs CPU at the moment. But there is times in H2H games where it is actually very fun and shows you what it could be. The bad things

    Hit sticks - aye they’re fun, but 95% of the animations are getting you a flag and a suspension on Sundays. Passing- it’s incredibly easy to pass because there’s no coverage in the game at the moment. So, how do we slow that down? By removing the ability to lead a pass entirely. The OC community have shown the exact settings needed to make pass lead feel right, look right and play right. But EA has not listened. Pass Rush - simply put, EA lied to us. They said they’ve unlocked pass rush moves for the pass rushers, meaning a better, more fluid and organic pocket will form. This is not true. Needs addressing urgently because again, this has the potential to make the game very good

    Contains - QB with speed? All the best catching him. Contains or not. Sometimes doesn’t even need speed. EA must address this the right way. Don’t make QBs slow again, make the contains work. Pass coverage - ha. There isn’t. That’s all there is to it really. This would be helped if the DBs tried to go for a swat as default, as opposed to going for a pick every single time. But c’est la vie. Penalties - they’ve addressed that they’ve taken them out for a reason. I kind of understand this, but they could always tie them into a trait so if your “highly undisciplined” RT holds on a game winning touchdown, that’s on you whether you want to keep him long term or not knowing he’s prone to a bone headed decision. Also as mentioned. The hit sticks. The conclusion

    Is there many more things I could discuss. Yes. Are there many more things EA needs to do. Yes. But they’re moving in the right direction. The only thing they know how to do is marketing. You're basically just spending 70 dollars minimum for the right to buy Ultimate team trading card packs.

    If a football team finishes 2-14 or 2-15 under the new schedule rules, the coach and GM are often relieved on their duties. This franchise has been a loser for over a decade. There has been no accountability, no course correction, nothing...

    As long as the game is profitable, is it has been, there seems like there is no impetus to make the changes needed to satisfy the fanbase. The 22 installment is a lot of new paint. The crumbling structure is still crumbling. There have been a few bones thrown to the thirsty NFL gamers. But the real changes that are needed to bring this title to the level of excellence it deserves is lacking.

    I personally believe this is a foundational issue. The wrong people are developing and planning this game. You cannot deliver an experience when the game programmers, coders, and planners are not truly die-hard football fans.

    The right people for the job are out there. But EA will not hire them because they don't fit the culture they want at their gaming company. Perhaps, they should hire the best people for the job and not individuals who fit a certain classification for a HR metric?

    Make sense?

    This game will never be what it deserves to be until the entire team from management to the low-level developer is gutted. The team needs to be replaced with people who are football experts. People who can hit the deliverables needed for the level of excellence required.

    This franchise needs to be a simulation. A 365 day true to life NFL lifecycle from The NFL Draft to the Super Bowl and everything in between.

The running backs ALWAYS falls forward no matter height or weight againt DT's. Defensive backs have better hands than wide receivers. Zones do what they want to do.     Ok going past MUT killing Madden let's look at the gameplay.
    Zone Defence what zone defence it is a joke the AI is unbelievably stupid which is annoying because EA advertised the advancement of the WR/DB mechanics. There are none and I thought it was impossible that EA could produce a worst game than Madden 21 but they have. Madden 21 gameplay as subpar as it was is better than Madden 22.
    Franchise. Releasing the game without the new scout update was just dumb. Seriously you can't say you ran out of time. You had five years of releasing the exact same game with the exact same cutscenes and using the exact same assets (even failing to update those assets).
    But instead they give us three different modes that are crap and poorly put together with The Yard (another micro transaction), Superstar KO and Face of the Franchise a poorly written, poorly acted, poorly planned mess where you could play absolutely crap in the prologue and still go Number 2 overall. So challenging so rewarding.
    Back to Franchise. An example of that this is still just a copy paste is that when you exit a game there is a second of the old "Coach Hub" seriously WTF. Coaching progression when first advertised got us excited but that was conquered literally in two seasons. Yay challenging.
    I was looking forward to the Scouting Update but with the lack of effort that EA has put into these "New Features" I doubt that there will be any real challenge.
    If EA is going to continue to produce a game that really only puts assets into their pay to win micro transactions MUT then just make the game free.
    I really hope that the agreement with EA and the NCAA doesn't have micro transactions in NCAA Football 23. We may actually get a playable football video game.    … Expand

Mechanically speaking, you have the same celebrations, same animations, same garbage material that they have been giving us for years. They add in features that were present A DECADE AGO and claim that they are "new" features. 0/10.

They really don't care about making a good game and then rub it in your face. They should be sued for releasing an unfinished game. So many bugs. I've been playing since John Madden Football on the Sega Genesis, haven't missed a year (except last year) so I decided to give it a go, even though I knew I would be underwhelmed just based on the poor marketing EA has done (might as well call it damage control instead of marketing), the way they have treated the community for so many years andI wish Madden was good, I really really do.     In this review, I'm not gonna talk about bugs and glitches, because there are too many, especially for a AAA game that releases every year and is always pretty much the same as the year before. EA is regressing big time at that point when it comes to Madden.

    MUT :
    I don't like it, I've tried it, it's a ripoff, it's extremely repetitive, not fun and I hate the fact that the other game modes don't really give you anything more for MUT like it is in MLB The Show. The thing I hate the most about MUT is the fact that you start over every year, your money or grind from the years before is lost forever and that makes no sense. It's the same thing over and over every year, I'm not getting ripped off there again. This mode should be a free game as it is for all pay-to-win games.

    Superstar KO :
    I don't even care about it, I don't have a need for it, I don't want it, so even if it's good, which I doubt it is because I don't know what purpose it serves at all, I'm not gonna play it ever. I want a SIMULATION game, not an arcade one, although I will buy the arcade NFL Game 2K is supposed to be working on.

    Face of the Franchise :
    Story is lame, but mostly, it has no depth to it. Career modes could be so much more now, it could be a true Football RPG, but instead, it's just a linear football story without a real story mode. Once you get to the NFL, it gets boring really fast. The possibilities are endless with a career mode, yet EA comes up with this shallow experience.

    The Yard :
    In theory, it could be a lot of fun, but why isn't it more like NBA 2K's playground? Your career mode should be directly related to it and that's it, it isn't really compicated! All you got to do is copy the competition... Even though there is none. The rewards in this mode are unexciting, it is once again very shallow and doesn't do anything to make me want to play it.

    Franchise mode :
    This is the mode I thought back in 2000 would be insanely deep and fun to play in 2021. Never in my wildest nightmares I would have thought Franchise would be as bad as it is now. It's been a mixbag of recycled assets from year to year, no attention to detail, zero presentation, bad commentary, boring scouting, nothing stimulating to do between games, etc. They don't care or they are just too far off what people want as a franchise mode. We deserve more respect and more polish to a game we have been playing and paying for for so long. It's sad the game is at this level now.

    Graphics :
    The graphics are good, but still not great because of a lack of attention ton detail. The bugs really screw that part of the game and make it look weak. I'd say this is the best part about Madden, but even on next gen, you're still looking at Madden, not NFL Football and that's what sucks about it.

    Gameplay :
    The gameplay, for so many years, has been about exploiting glitches and that hasn't changed. You don't play football and devise a football strategy, you devise a cheesy Madden strategy. Here again, the bugs make the gameplay so frustrating and unrealistic, in the end it's just not fun.

    The NFL has to put a stop to this exclusivity agreement they have with EA, for the sake of their fans. We deserve better.    … Expand

    Let’s be realistic. For an annual sports franchise, it’s not necessarily practical to expect huge evolution year on year. It’s also fair to say that at a minimum, players should expect EA to deliver incremental quality of life improvements and make an effort to hone their overall experience of the game for the better. Whilst there is only so far the needle can be pushed year on year, the launch of a new Madden on next-gen systems presented EA with an opportunity to really raise the bar. That’s why it’s particularly disappointing that Madden 22 only offers stagnant content and, sadly, creative disinterest.

    Madden is as compelling as it ever was, but it can’t escape the slight feeling that things are spread a little too thin. Improvements to franchise mode are welcome and help the experience, but they are smaller than perhaps they deserve. With so many different ways to play football, it’s a little difficult to get in invested in any one game.
