    It's very reminiscent of the games we played together for hours at the console when we were kids. It is one of the rare productions where you can still experience the side-by-side multiplayer experience. The sense of coordination and progress together is very strong. If you have someone you can play with, you should definitely try it.

    The only thing that can be said negatively is that some parts seemed a little too easy. But it certainly wasn't boring. Nice extras are that the interspersed mini-games are replayable after the game is over.    … Expand

    It takes all the fun of a mandatory co-op game and as a bonus, throws in your parents’ constant fighting and sniping at each other due to years of resentment!!! How could you lose? Seriously, though, the game is very fun. Any other storyline would have been a thousand times better, though.     Wasn't sure about trying this game as I have not heard of it so wasn't expecting much. Hooked up with a friend to give it a go and I absolutely love it. Full of fun, puzzles, humour and excellent graphics and varied levels. I love that you have to work together as a team and communicate properly to get passed the puzzles. Highly recommend this game and its a blast. Excellent

Ich bin ohne große Erwartungen in dieses Koop-Experiment gestartet und wurde mit jeder gespielten Minute mehr in den Bann gezogen. Jede vorstellbare Mechanik aus Videospielen der letzten 20 Jahre findet sich hier wieder und schafft es sich nahtlos in die wunderschön designten Welten einzufügen. Hier stimmt wirklich alles. Es spielt sich wie ein Einzig langer Pixar-Film ohne dabei jemals langweilig oder langatmig zu werden. Die zusätzlichen eingebauten Minispiele in den Leveln, eine wunderschöne Optik mit dem Auge fürs Detail, eine süße kleine Geschichte und die Tatsache, dass man nur als Team durch jegliche Level kommt haben die rund 15 Stunden Spielzeit zu einem einzigem Vergnügen werden lassen.     IT TAKES TWO is the best double-player game I have played. It reminds me about the original intention of playing game itself -- fun. The drawback might be getting too close relationship with your homie if you don't have a girlfriend.

    Josef Fares ha conseguido con It Takes Two llevar un juego cooperativo a su máximo nivel. Gracias a su variada y no muy compleja jugabilidad permite que casi todo el mundo lo pueda disfrutar, y esta aventura cooperativa obligatoria es extremadamente divertida y ahonda continuamente en una gran variedad de mecánicas que hacen el juego muy ameno para disfrutar en compañía. El diseño deJosef Fares ha conseguido con It Takes Two llevar un juego cooperativo a su máximo nivel. Gracias a su variada y no muy compleja jugabilidad permite que casi todo el mundo lo pueda disfrutar, y esta aventura cooperativa obligatoria es extremadamente divertida y ahonda continuamente en una gran variedad de mecánicas que hacen el juego muy ameno para disfrutar en compañía. El diseño de niveles es espectacular y me ha sorprendido gratamente. También cuenta con multitud de minijuegos que vas encontrando a lo largo del juego y en su mayoría son bastante disfrutables. Con respecto a la historia, me ha parecido buena y coherente en sus acontecimientos, aunque me habría gustado algún giro de guion o elemento inesperado en el último tercio de juego. Debo destacar el personaje del Dr. Hakim, que con su humor y personalidad consigue que esta historia te mantenga enganchado hasta el final. Con respecto a su apartado técnico, el juego me ha ido perfectamente en todo momento con 60 fps estables y una calidad gráfica que, aunque es propia de un juego intergeneracional, es cumplidora. Mención especial merece el diseño artístico, que me parece realmente bueno y que emula bastante bien lo que podría ser una película de Pixar. En cuanto al apartado sonoro, los efectos son muy buenos y la banda sonora es bastante variable, limitándose a ser ambiental en la mayor parte del juego y cogiendo bastante protagonismo en otras secciones, dejando un gran resultado. La duración es de alrededor de 14 horas, perfecta para un juego de este estilo. Como puntos negativos puedo reseñar la falta de coleccionables (aunque sigo sin aclararme sobre si en este juego son necesarios o no) y los modelos y animaciones faciales de los humanos, que desentonan bastante con la calidad del resto del juego. Juego totalmente recomendado para jugar con la pareja o con algún familiar o amigo, ya que es una experiencia fascinante que seguro que ambos recordaréis. 9,2/10

    Reviewing as a couple playing together on PS5 in couch co-op. Just having a good couch co-op mode gives massive points from me alone. But being this polished (at launch as we played day 1) and this fun was amazing to see. Especially when EA is the publisher... Lets not go there. As a long term couple, with 3 kids, the themes in the story were interesting and the gameplay forcing us to workReviewing as a couple playing together on PS5 in couch co-op.     Great game, amazing imagination of the game creators, story writers. I was truly amazed and mesmerized by everything about this game. We had one of the best times playing this game with my wife. Excitement, fun and dramatic scenes. I will be looking forward to the next game of this studio. Must buy 10/10.

    This game is great. I played it and beat it with my 10-year old and we had a blast. I highly recommend this game for anyone looking for a great couch co-op experience, especially with someone in the younger audience.

    The “Game of the Year” effect is a real thing. A game wins GotY, you haven’t played it, and suddenly you want to try it out. Mix that with the “Hey it’s on Game Pass” effect, and before you know it I've through all of It Takes Two. Without a doubt this game deserves all of the praise it was given as the developer clearly made this game with a lot of love and passion and it really shows inThe “Game of the Year” effect is a real thing. A game wins GotY, you haven’t played it, and suddenly you want to try it out. Mix that with the “Hey it’s on Game Pass” effect, and before you know it I've through all of It Takes Two. Without a doubt this game deserves all of the praise it was given as the developer clearly made this game with a lot of love and passion and it really shows in this charming masterpiece.

    Exclusively a 2 player game, a husband and wife are turned into dolls and have to explore the world in a Toy Story like style fighting army squirrels and sentient toys along the way. The story can make you laugh and tear up so easily as you quickly become invested in its fantastic narrative. Different mini games or even just fun extra things to do are around every corner making the game just as fun to explore as it is to play. They find a way to mix so many genres into one including fighting, racing, and even dungeon crawling as a few of the many examples. This sense of adventure always brought me back with excitement to see what happens next, or what world I may explore. A garden? A toy castle? Even a snow globe?! I was always charmed and thrilled to see where this journey took me next.

    Honestly I cannot recommend this game enough. If you have a friend or loved one you can play alongside this game will give you hours upon hours of entertainment. And if you don’t have such a person, consider buying a copy for a friend and play it online with them. It’s a worthwhile investment and one I promise you won’t regret making. Once again, this game fully deserved its Game of the Year award, and I’m happy it won it.    … Expand

    Mostly the genre of the plot is drama/comedy.The whole plot and story is about a nearly divorced married couple, but at some point they are transformed into toys and they are forced to work together to transform to their real bodies.The plot is simple, but i think thats not a problem because it works pretty well.Even in in-game interactions between May and Cody can show how deeply buried their relationship is, and how it transforms along the way of the plot.But in my opinion the last chapter is a bit slow and could be far more faster, but it is not a problem it all because of the ending.The sequence with Wasps and Squirrels is hilarious though.
    The gameplay provides huge variety of mechanics, each level of the game has different mechanic.To understand this variety i can male examples of my favorites - RPG, Time Control and Clone making, Hammer and Nail, Voice and Shield and far more.And in total this game cant bore you, because of its variety in each level, even the puzzles are really interesting and requires impact from both players.Also there some fun mini games along the levels, and there also provides different mechanics.
    In conclusion i can say thats the perfect game to play with girlfriend, and amazing game to play with friends/siblings/even parents and provides unforgettable and joyful journey.This game gave me the most pleasant and relaxed experience since Stray.I recommend this game to literally everyone, it is one of the best games i’ve ever played, and i cant really imagine a player that wouldn’t like it.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's hard to define what a good game is, but it's easy to tell what game can make you feel happy. During the time me and my girlfriend played it, I felt being brought back to the time when I played game only for pure fun and happiness. By the end of the game when May and Cody going through the rainbow tunnel to the final stage, I was deeply touched by the scene and cried out in front of my girlfriend. This is a ten hour experience that you will remember forever and can never get again.

    It Takes Two n'est pas qu'un simple jeu à suivre du début à la fin comme d'autres jeux, celui-ci partage une histoire très divertissante avec deux personnages mis en valeur par leurs caractères différents et par leurs dialogues des plus humoristiques, dans cet univers on plonge tout droit dans plusieurs décors qui sont très bien établis avec une écriture de gameplay enrichissante ! AIt Takes Two n'est pas qu'un simple jeu à suivre du début à la fin comme d'autres jeux, celui-ci partage une histoire très divertissante avec deux personnages mis en valeur par leurs caractères différents et par leurs dialogues des plus humoristiques, dans cet univers on plonge tout droit dans plusieurs décors qui sont très bien établis avec une écriture de gameplay enrichissante !     Decent fun for two players. If you dont mind story on level of Hollywood movie (which is not a compliment), annoying woman behaving like a man and sissy man behaving like a woman. And terrible book. And logical mistakes that just make you roll your eyes (if you pay them any attention). On the bright side, my girlfriend had fun, liked the models (anything cute gets her).

    TL;DR: It Takes Two is a competent game in a genre (co-op platformer) where it has virtually no competition. While not spectacular, the visuals and voice acting are better than your average videogame. It also does a good job of telling a story that is a little more    FULL DISCLOSURE: I did not finish this game. My co-op partner and I got bored by level 2 (of 7) and set the game down.

    TL;DR: It Takes Two is a competent game in a genre (co-op platformer) where it has virtually no competition. While not spectacular, the visuals and voice acting are better than your average videogame. It also does a good job of telling a story that is a little more grounded, relatable, and coherent than most games. However, people who play a lot of videogames may notice the sub-par level design, platforming, and puzzles.

    I think if you and your significant other / co-op partner are reasonably capable videogames players (e.g., grew up with games), but you aren't like, playing 15+ hours of videogames per week, It Takes Two may be one of the better videogames you'll play. Many people probably fall into this category, which I think is why it has so many favorable reviews and won PS game of the year.

    But from a design perspective, I think the level design and puzzles are weak, and there are GameCube, Xbox, and PlayStation 2 games from the early 2000s that have comparable or better platforming.

    In my experience, most of the levels played out exactly the same. First, the game gives both players a tool. These tools work together to enable the players to solve the puzzles. For example, one player gets a hammer and the other gets a nail gun. Simultaneously, the game takes away whatever tools the players received in the previous level. Then the players run down a hallway until they hit a puzzle. The players do the puzzle which lets them run down another hallway, where they do another puzzle. This repeats until the players hit some sort of autoscroller / "run away from the collapsing stage" section, which is followed by a boss.

    Its really obvious based on the puzzle design and the game's theme (e.g., two people learning to work together and repair their dysfunctional relationship) that the developers did not want players to get stuck on the puzzles and get frustrated with one another. To avoid this problem, they made the puzzles pretty easy, so much so that all the puzzles (that I played) were identical from a gameplay standpoint.

    First, the players are put into a room. One and only one of the players will be able to interact with something using the tool they received at the start of the level. That player presses R2 to interact with the thing. This will enable the other player to press R2 to interact with something else. This "P1-P2-P1-P2" or "P2-P1-P2-P1" pattern is repeated until the puzzle is solved. The actual "tool" you use to solve the puzzle is mechanically irrelevant. In one level, one player receives a hammer and the other receives a nail. The puzzles are solved by one player pressing R2 while looking at something, followed by the other player pressing R2 while looking at something. In the next level, they take away your hammer and nailgun and replace them with a sap (?) launcher and a match gun. The puzzles are solved by one player pressing R2 while looking at something, followed by the other player pressing R2 while looking at something.

    The platforming seems to have been designed by someone who knows what a platformer is, and is aware of platformer mechanics, but does not really seem to understand them. For example, with regards to mechanics like jumping, in a 3D platformer, a character might have e.g., a jump, a double jump, a spin jump, a dive jump, etc. In a good platformer, the levels are designed where each of these movement options is appropriate in different circumstances, so the player has to decide between them while playing, making the gameplay more varied and interesting. In It Takes Two, the impression I got was "you might as well double jump and dive," because most of the gaps can't be covered by a single jump anyway, and there isn't really anything the single jump does better than the double jump. So it seems like the developers included multiple jump options because "that's what good platformers have," without really understanding why they have those options.

    Some of the action sections in levels can get kind of tedious, and it seems like the developers were aware of that, but didn't bother to redesign or address these sections. Like in one level, there is an autoscroller where you ride on the back of a glowing fish and literally do nothing for a couple minutes, and I kinda enjoyed it. I realized the reason I enjoyed it was because setting the controller down was more enjoyable than playing the sections that came before it. The developers included this section as an intermission to make the level more tolerable, rather than simply making a more fun level to begin with.

    So overall the gameplay and puzzles aren't great, but if you don't play much videogames, you might not even notice or appreciate that, and you may end up enjoying one of very few polished functional co-op platformers on the market.    … Expand

The developers were clearly trying to share a unique gaming experience and something we had never seen as gamers. You can't penalize them from trying to offer a truly one-of-a-kind experience.     Fantastic and innovative couch co-op game. Played it with my gf and we had a blast, she doesnt play games very often this one was special. Great way spend an evening with a bottle of wine and fun. Highly recommend, you won’t find a game this unique out there with a cooperative experience and full of crazy!

    Killing the elephant doll was both saddest and funniest moments of the game. The level of quality this game maintains is extraordinary and has that Pixar level of fantasy that I enjoy. There were some low points though in some of the levels, like the Garden where the gameplay was not too interesting. BUT, Chipmunk Army.

    Pros:
    + Diversity of levels: snow, garden, music, mechanic clock-world. Each of the environments is unique and with some twist? You think the tree will be just jumping on branches? Wrong! We have military squirrels. What about an attic? It is a music level.
    + Diversity of mechanics. There is a 1-2 new mechanics in every level. Every one of them uses cooperation in an interesting way.
    + Great coop game. I've played a lot of coop games with my wife. In most of them, the players must overcome an obstacle one-by-one and wait for each other or can go in different directions and basically play two separate games. This is not the case here. In order to succeed, you have to stay close and help each other.
    + Meaningful collectibles: there are no "golden bricks" hidden in the levels. Each of the collectibles is either a mini game with new mechanic or a interesting situation/easter egg.
    + A lot of mini games. We enjoyed playing through them all (maybe except chess - it is hard to call chess a mini game). They are great to enhance the coop experience.

    Cons:
    – Lack of depth in puzzles. Each mechanics has a potential for great puzzles using them. The game uses them only for very simple ones, that you just go through in a heartbeat. Not much a challenge. Some areas feels like there was a lot of effort put into them and you just rush through it.
    – The story is not bad but it is not great either. It is more about exploration of the characters and their personalities. The story was better in "The way out" (previous game of Hazelight).
    – We didn't quite like the characters.
    – Sometimes the game forces you to do things you wish you could skip. If you played the game, you know what I'm talking about.    … Expand

    It Takes Two is the best co-op game I've ever had the pleasure of playing. It's a long game that offers so much, yet never gets stale or predictable. This was 100% deserving of receiving GOTY for 2021. I recommend playing this with someone you're close with, whether it's a significant other, family member, or best friend. I played this with my dad and we had an absolute blast.

    I managed to drag my non gamer girlfriend into this game and we loved it. Of course she struggled a lot with the controls but we managed in the end.
    We love the different action skill each chapter has, just the entire setup and detail of each chapter, the brilliance of the puzzles you need to solve..
    Great couch coop game, definitely worth the GOTY award.

    The game is incredibly diverse in terms of gameplay and that's cool. It's also fun to play two and we have a good time. But for me the game quickly became nondescript and I couldn't wait for it to end. The challenge is nice but nothing more, it's certainly not a GOTY for me anyway!

    Played it with my husband and we both love it. It shows how every relation has the same and simple problems and how unimportant they are actually. The controls are so good i never really felt hindered by them, the platforming is great, the puzzles are interesting and fun, the graphics are amazing and there are always new gameplay mechanics in every chapter and they nailed them all and i don't know how they did it.     What an amazing game. If you have a friend/girlfriend/parents or whatever, who's not playing many videogames, or you want them to show that games are a wonderfull alternative to TV/Netflix, then play this game with them! Easy to handle, always fresh gameplay elements and beautiful graphics.

It's absolute **** to force the players to make that choice when the only alternative choice is to stop playing. It also makes makes zero sense since it was never established that the two protagonists are psychopaths. I honestly don't understand how tone deaf the whole team should have been.

Alles was man sich als Koop-Spiel vorstellen kann.. kommt hier vor. Und was noch mehr erstaunt. Das Spiel ist nicht mal kurz. Aber es fühlt sich kurz an, da einfach alle paar Minuten eine komplett neue Spielmechanik folgt. Leider gibt es hier aber auch bedenken, dass hier ganz klar der zweite Spieler ein entscheidender Faktor ist.

    Für mich gibt es nur einen kleinen Haken. Die Story ist für mich persönlich nur mittel zum Zweck. Manchmal hat sie einen klaren Stimmungsbruch. Diese Eltern sind wirklich Rabeneltern. Ich fand es stellenweise etwas überzeichnet. Das mag gewollt sein, aber bei mir hat es nicht gezündet.

    One of the best games these days, my only complaint is that it's forced 2 player, and it doesn't have a player 2 AI like lego games, other than that this game is tons of fun, hopefully it's not forced 2 player next time, or maybe an update giving it an AI.

    I adore A Way Out, so I had really high expectations for Hazelight’s new game. Instead of sticking to the proven, perfect formula of AWO, the developers decided to give us more of everything and as a result overdid it in many respects. The levels are too long and there are too many minigames, while the story can’t keep up. It seemed to me the narrative is just a pretext to introduce as many different gameplay mechanics as possible, and as a result the relationship between the protagonists is implausible.     It Takes Two is a one-of-a-kind experience. There is a joy and whimsy to the entire game and so much variety it’ll keep players entertained and surprised from beginning to end. The world is so detailed and gorgeous and the cohesion between storytelling and gameplay is incredibly impressive. It’s the kind of game that proves there’s still plenty of room for innovation in games.
