The maps are huge, and have points of interest to discover littered throughout. Really the only obstacle for enjoyment is your own patience and just how much time you’re willing to spend doing all the less-than-thrilling activities.

The next-gen version of Hunting Simulator 2 is only worth considering if you’re buying it for the first time – especially the Xbox Series X/S version. It’s perhaps not the best hunting game ever made, but those into the activity will find that the hours will fly by as they attempt to bag themselves some epic trophies. And thanks to the power of next-gen, everything looks better than ever. The picturesque scenery makes even just taking a stroll through the wilderness enjoyable – if you don’t like hunting, consider it a dog-walking simulator instead.

We really didn’t like Hunting Simulator 2 on PS4. This re-release on PS5 adds 4k visuals and takes advantage of the SSD well. We liked the look of new addition Ranger Mode, at least we would’ve if it was released. We didn’t like the day one premium DLC and trophies are intermittently glitchy, but somehow we found ourselves not outright hating it.

Okay so I came from The Hunter COTW, and overall the two can't really be compared. Both good. Both hunting games.

COTW is a deeper game. It's a bigger game. It has more content. It's also a little bit of a free for all and at times, in my opinion, becomes a shooting gallery over a hunting simulator. Just one man's opinion.

Hunting Simulator 2 is a slightly slower paced, much prettier game. I found the shooting mechanic a tad easier but more realistic in terms of a high powered broad side hit dropping an animal faster than it did in COTW. Unlike COTW, there's no nagging side quests or story (not counting Ranger DLC) and it's just plain hunting.

The ambience is gorgeous, the lodge is stunning, and overall I can highly recommend this as a hunting sim on PS5. The fact the Bear Hunter version is dirt cheap right now made this a very cheap buy for the quality received.

Would I recommend this over a (one day...) PS5 version of COTW? Probably not. A revamped COTW on PS5 would rule at the top just due to how far along it is as a title. However as a standalone product on PS5, this game will keep your hunting tastes satisfied and is a worthy pickup. I can strongly recommend HS2 over that festering, half baked turd 'Way Of The Hunter' which, may I add, has one of the most misleading trailers I've ever watched and is in fact graphically below Hunting Simulator 2.
