    Absolutely fantastic game, but seem a bit slow in the beginning, however the world and the potential opens up after a few hours of playing. If you enjoy magic, battles and open world games - this one is definitely for you, very unique and totally worth the money.

    Would not trust the reviews as most people have not actually played the game, just demo.

The technical side of things is pretty average for a Next Gen exclusive...In the game, you'll find droopy textures, loading screens for little else, textures that pop...in short, it's a shame. The game's musical ambience is very interesting, but it's not present enough and quickly goes round in circles, which is a real shame!

    In conclusion: Forspoken is a good game. Quickly criticized for its sluggish, guided start, it deserves to be played to its full potential. Admittedly, it has its flaws, but its story, atmosphere and gameplay deserve to be explored... This game deserves to be tested, perhaps not at its high price of 80euro.    … Expand

    I also did the same thing as Sony fans and gave the Starfield game a 0 rating, since the game was not released on the Playstation. So this game is not on Xbox and I give it a 0 rating.

    I like the story much, a lot of spells, good graphics.
    The thing is not so well an open world after ending the story mode, but every game got the same.

    Surprisingly enjoyed this game. The voice acting is cringe but gameplay is surprisingly good considering how poorly the game was received.

    i put into 10 hours of gameplay and finished beating tanta sila which was very easy since i had been treasured hunting and looting everything in sight but there are something that i have honestly deemed unnecessary

    the open world: the open world may have been huge and riddled with monsters and enemies but it felt empty as if there is nothing really there and were just wandering around with nothing much to do, although it is explained in the campaign why there no interactive npc in the open world and there is a limited amount of side quest but the upside is the traversal is very exciting
    the combat system is very new (i think) maybe it is somewhat similar to the infamous second son but there are more way to fight.
    as for the story, the story needs some work it kind of felt like it was in a rush to get the ending and there were definitely some plot holes or unanswered questions that remained unanswered, the only good thing is that there are no cliffhangers
    now for frey holland she is amazing what i really admired is cursing i found it relatable since i also have the mouth of the sailor lol the way she is portrayed is realistic to someone who was force to go another world and doesn't want to put herself in danger for the sake others but is forced to confront all the dangers in athia
    overall the game is pretty decent but i highly suggest to buy the game when it sale because i can't promise you can enjoy the game because many people mixed review    … Expand

    I don't think this is a bad game but it is also not a great game. Cuff is annoying even when his responses are turned down to minimal. The writing overall isn't top tier but it isn't as bad as people were making it out to be. The combat and movement are the best part about the game and they are really fun. My only complaint on the combat is that all the cool abilities aren't unlockedI don't think this is a bad game but it is also not a great game.     This game was FANTASTIC!!! I know it received a lot of hate when it first came out which is why I waited until the price dropped to $30 to grab it. And grabbing at $30 was a STEAL. This game was fun. It has a solid story, the gameplay is solid, the combat was really fun & fast paced. However I have my issues. My two biggest issues were, #1All of the side quests were basically same. AtThis game was FANTASTIC!!! And #2 while how the game has you traverse Athia is fun and different from other games, it felt extremely weird and clunky at times. Climbing was also annoying as everything wasn’t climbable without certain skills, or abilities. Overall I give this game 8.5/10. It was fun to play paired with a good story, and was bought at a great value. I definitely hope they come out with a Forspoken 2!… Expand

    I love this game! And I hope the don't cancel the franchise because it has major potential.
    There is however the learning curve and the build up of this game.
    It all starts rather sluggish and a bit disorientating. But when you advance through the game, the gameplay gets better, your knowledge of athia grows and I was positively surprised at the flow later on in the game. For me it was    I love this game!     For me it was like playing a "good book" with a couple of plot twist, very decent action and a story wich more unfolds as a background story to a complete saga, then a single game primary narrative.

The story is a little wacky, but plays on the fish out of water aka isekai formula pretty well. I enjoy the banter, unfortunately, it does repeat at times. I think the game had really high expectations that of course it was not going to live up to. I enjoy the combat, I do enjoy the banter, mostly because I love the style it is going for. I also don't get why people say “people don't talk like this” when these are not people from Earth, but I can't use normal speech patterns and idioms from a society that does not use them. All in all I enjoy the game and wish it did well or better than it did because I think it is leagues better, at least post patch, than people believe it to be.… Expand

    First and foremost, the game's biggest downfall lies in its narrative. While the premise seemed intriguing at the outset, the execution fell flat. The protagonist's character development lacked depth and authenticity, making it hard to connect emotionally with her journey. The plotline also suffered from predictability and cliches, leaving me uninterested in the overarching story.

    Furthermore, the gameplay mechanics failed to impress. Combat felt clunky and unrefined, leaving me frustrated during intense battles. The controls lacked precision, hindering my ability to fully immerse myself in the world. Despite boasting magic abilities, the magic system felt underwhelming and poorly integrated into the gameplay, reducing its impact on combat scenarios.

    The open-world environment, while visually stunning, proved to be mostly empty and lacking in interactive elements. The lack of meaningful side quests and activities left me feeling aimless and unengaged as I traversed through the vast landscape. The NPCs' dialogue felt repetitive and uninspired, further diminishing my interest in exploring the world they inhabit.

    Moreover, Forspoken's technical issues severely hindered the overall experience. Frequent frame rate drops, texture pop-ins, and various bugs marred the gameplay, leading to frustrating interruptions and detracting from the game's visual splendor.

    The game's sound design, while decent, did little to elevate the overall experience. The background music failed to leave a lasting impression, and the voice acting, though competent, couldn't compensate for the game's lackluster narrative.

    On top of all these shortcomings, the microtransactions and intrusive monetization elements were a significant turnoff. The constant push towards purchasing cosmetic items and in-game currency cheapened the gaming experience, giving it a 'pay-to-win' vibe and leaving a bitter taste in my mouth.

    In conclusion, Forspoken had the potential to be a remarkable gaming experience, but it ultimately falls short on multiple fronts. Its lackluster narrative, flawed gameplay mechanics, unimpressive open-world, technical issues, and obtrusive monetization all contribute to a game that is not only forgettable but also disappointing. It's saddening to witness such a promising concept go to waste.     The game is not perfect, but I am enjoining it a lot, the story, the graphics, the action.
    I see people complain about a empty world, but the story explains it, only the city has the humans that survived, so what is outside are like zombies or mutated animals, dragons, etc that are corrupted.

    I actually liked the voice of the cuffs and the conversation, it makes the game more alive

    The ambient music is great, I dont like when a game lets you hear just silece and fx sounds, the music helps keeps the tension

    The default configurations are a little dark so I just increase a little of the brighness and or gama and it is more clear

    the graphics are great, I dont feel like they are outdated like some say, some things and areas needed to be more polished

    but overall it is fun to play, enteresting imersive comovent story if you pay attention and read the items

    it is a action RPG game so it has RPG elements like story conversations lore etc...    … Expand

The game suffers from horrible story pacing issues, side activities which become repetitive very fast, and the open world being wide as an ocean but deep as a puddle. The only redeeming qualities are the combat, and the story ending which has a fantastic message in current times, but even the combat can get annoying in certain circumstances when there are way too many enemies on the screen and you basically have no opportunity to attack. This is a classic shallow and overextended Square Enix game. Sometimes, less is more.… Expand

I think this is exactly what an 8 out of 10 needs to have. A game that is really close to greatness but somehow miss it. And this is Forspoken in a nutshell.     The control is really awful, and it truly drags down the whole game. It totally lacks accuracy and has input lag. The parkour is clumsy and too automatized in a bad way.

    The graphics feel good without being top noch. As for the art direction, the world of Athia lacks a bit of personality and feels a bit generic, like the whole game.

    Sound: 7 Just as the visual part, the sound works without standing out. It lacks energy at some points.

    All in all, a beautiful concept of enjoying the discover of an open world that is flawed in its execution, specially (but not only) in the inaccurate control of the main character. The story can be entertaining without being memorable, because it clearly follows a formula that we have already seen too many times.    … Expand

    I am surprised at the hate this game got, as I thoroughly enjoyed it. While Frey may not be the most likeable character and story feels a little forced, it’s good and enjoyable, full for turns and twists.

    Combat mechanic is great, very satisfying and rich, while not overwhelming, which I found was the case with the demo.

    Traversal is fantastic, world gorgeous and vast. Definitely recommend it.

    This game it's a solid pretty fun game. And gets a lot better when you unlock more types of magic.
    The fast pace, the magic, the movement and the combat its pretty fun.
    No parry option so you can rely on movement to avoid attacks. The secondary missions can be a little bland especially in the city but the open world activities are better.     This game is very fun to play. The traversal and fighjt mechanics are awesome. It's a fast paced game with beautiful graphis. The only thing to complain about are the cutscenes fading to black in a janky way every now and then.

    After about the first 4 hours, the gave finally comes into its own, and for the next 26 I had done it the best times of my life playing this. Unfortunately some things in the first 4 hours really are unbearable.
    However, overall, I do recommend this game

    Forspoken is a really pretty game i loved the visuals and art direction of the game the story is not the best in the buisness and the game mechanics are pretty sticky but once you open up new abilities i like the gameplay i feel its hard to play defensive in Forspoken but its definitely not ad bad as the reviews

    What can I say, I really really likes this game. I do agree with a lot of the criticism, but most of it was just way too exaggerated. Clear review bombing by people who maybe played 2 minutes of the game or just watched all the clickbait reviews on youtube makes this game look way worse than it is. The dialogue is fine, it has a few cringe moments here and there, but not in a way that makes you want to cry. I even laughed at some of it and found joy in the character interactions.

    The gameplay is what makes this game though. Beautiful to look at and insanely fluid magic, I have not experienced a game with better magic. The story has the right length and is good, but not amazing. I like some of the characters a lot and didn't care for others at all. The world is a little bland but you need the wide open fields to really make use of that amazing movement. Just as with the magic, I do not know a game with better traversal abilities. So smooth, so fast, so much fun.

    Overall this game is much better than I expected and I really enjoyed it a lot. People should give it a chance, especially when you have the chance to get it on sale.    … Expand

    Thanks to the fun combat and parkour, this is a good 10-15 hour experience if you ignore most of the open world content (which is bland and repetitive). The story has some good moments and some bad, but way too much exposition. The pacing is terrible. The map is terrible. Needing to run over glowing spots to get upgrade points is terrible.

I absolutely loved the story and how the relationship between Frey and Cuff progressed before he became a awesome menacing villain. I also really liked how each Tanta affected Frey in different aspects. And I loved seeing Freys mom at the end. It feels like a new game. The dlc is short, around 4-5 hours. However, that twist at the end? SWEET!!!. A nice send-off for the main game.     I can understand all the hate on this game, because the main downside, in my opinion, is the storytelling. The protagonist swears a lot, always complaining about the same things throughout the whole game. The dialogues are really bad. However, the game combat is AMAZING, and the parkour system is one of a kind. I really love all the effects and the magic system. Fighting is very fun, especially against bosses or bigger enemies and taking out huge amounts of enemies in an arena style battle is very entertaining, but out in the world coming across 4-5 normal enemies it become very repetitive. Open world is boring and just landscape you run through, nothing worth noting there. Graphics are beautiful and I really like how they did the haptic feedback, it’s the first game that I can recall who did so much with it. All in all it is definitely not the best game ever, but not the worst game I’ve ever played either. Definitely do not pay full price for it, but pick it up while it’s on sale if you’re looking for something to kill time between other titles releasing.… Expand

    The combat in particular is its greatest weakness, but there are some good elements here. The world is a wasteland, but we've seen our share of those at this point. The story is unoriginal if you watch isekai anime. The characters are hit or miss in their likeability. Overall, it's underwhelming. But it absolutely does not deserve so many 0 scores, that's ridiculous.

Being able to quickly swap between types of magic was fun, and the different types of magic did feel unique. The magic parkour was definitely the highlight of the game, and I hope it gets refined and used again in future games.

    The pacing and story were the worst offenders in Forspoken. It did take some time for the story to really kick in, but it was interesting once it did. Then we get to the third act, and, well, there really wasn't a third act. You no sooner get the last type of magic then you go to the final boss. I didn't even play around with it beforehand because I thought there would be more story.

    The dialogue was okay. I wasn't as annoyed by Frey and Cuff as others were, though some of the repeated lines did get old fast. New York looked amazing, but the fantasy world (can't even remember its name) was a little on the dull side. Music wasn't bad. The characters were written okay, but we hardly got to know the Tantas or more than a handful of characters. Only one who stood out to me was the one justice tanta with her Gollum/Smeagol bit. Overall, an okay game with a few high points but many more low ones.    … Expand

And    In all honesty, this game’s not bad.

But when heard in-context, it’s not so bad. Could it be better? Yes. They hired a head-writer with absolutely nothing to her name, and the game suffered for that. And unfortunately, some of the voice-acting is rather dull and unpolished as well. Combine the two, and it makes for a couple of rather cringe moments during the game’s 10-hour main campaign.

    But it’s not atrocious!

    Also – and what remains my main complaint about the game – the graphics are also very mid. There have been a couple of patches, and they seem to have helped. However, for a “next-gen” exclusive, the graphics are still way behind what should have been produced for the hardware, and for the price. Granted, I had just come off of playing The Callisto Protocol (which sports near movie-like quality animations), but the NPC animation in Forspoken is/was shockingly bad. There’s no excuse for that. Frey herself was looking like a early PS4 character model, before these aforementioned patches. Frey’s animation is better now, but unfortunately, I don’t think the NPC animation will ever get better. Square Enix just decided to put their resources elsewhere in the game.

    But, regardless of these issues… There’s a good story here. A story of hope, and courage. A story about finding your purpose. Frey grew on me. She’s the classic reluctant hero, and once she fully embraced her calling, the game really paid off! At least in my opinion. And Ella Balinska plays a relatable Frey Holland. She gave the character her heart and her spirit.

    One last point. There is absolutely no reason for this game to be rated M. The only reason it’s rated Mature is because – for some reason – Square Enix decided they wanted to have a protagonist who said the f-word every other sentence. It’s unnecessary. And it’s a shame, too. Because the story would be wonderful for a young child to play. The game would have been improved with the Teen rating. In my opinion.

    If you’re on the fence about Forspoken, I say try it. It’s better than what the pro-reviewers and the internet-haters have said. Is it Game of the Year? Heck no. But it’s an enjoyable romp through a really neat fantasy-land and with a great feel-good message to it.    … Expand

While it gets better on the second half, and you start to see that hey...no loading times between scenes, it is still an underwhelming experience. Forspoken ended up as a big flop, and Square Enix's fate hangs in the balance on the success of their next exclusives, FF 16. Maybe Sony might buy them next year? Who knows? I think Square Enix dropped the ball when they hired Western writers to handle the story and dialogue, and it ended up being a woke and cringeworthy mess.

    This is by far one of my all-time favourite games. The traversal and combat is beautiful, the music gave me chills and the emotional storyline had me in tears by the end of it. I honestly and truly cannot think of a single flaw in this game.

    Forspoken is fine game. Graphics, Writing, Performance is 50/50, sometimes felt unfinished. But magic combat and Parkour actually really fun. I enjoyed playing it, and recommend for RPG fan like myself.

    Forspoken is a fun open world game but with some issues. However they're not anywhere near as bad as some will say. The ridiculous unjustified hatred for this game is just mob mentality blindly hating on a actual decent product. The spell system in Forspoken is slightly better than Hogwarts Legacy in my opinion. If you like open world games then give this a chance you'll enjoy it.

    I went through a decent part of the game, and I can say I like the game! I don't understand why there is so much negativity?

    P,S Completed the game to the credits. This is an incredible game in all respects, for me one of the best games of recent times!

    P.S.S The game seemed too easy for me at a normal level, I regret that I didn’t start on a hard one.

It didn’t outstay its welcome during my playthrough and it kept evolving just enough to keep me hooked, until the credits rolled. The graphics, at times, were also quite impressive. My advice would be to pick this game up for at least half price and do a full playthrough of just the main story, without bothering about any of the extremely dull side quests and activities.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you don't follow the hivemind and make up your mind about this game, you'll find it's actually quite fun. The dialogue isn't as fleshed out as other titles, but it isn't terrible. The travel system and combat is fleshed out and the main point of this game. It's quite the spectacle when you're blowing through an army of enemies with enough magic to blow up Hogwarts. The story can be a little dull at times, but the story led to me being caught out and genuinely suprised on what happened. The game also utilises the ps5 controller quite well, which is nice, as alot of titles tend to skip using the ps5 controllers features. The map itself seems to be a little bland and unfilled, but I genuinely think that's on purpose, due to the story describing the map as a barren and unhabitable wasteland. All in all, it's definitely worth a try.… Expand

    Seemed like a walking simulator for 90% of the first 90 minutes. I could see how some could like this at least. Once I finally got past walking and cutscenes, i found the combat subpar and forced. I didnt catch any woke bs, but the cutscenes made me lose most interest pretty quick, so I could have missed it. I did like the exploring aspect.

    I love the storyline and Frey’s character! It can be difficult to get used to the controls and movement, but it’s super rewarding once you get the hang of it. I was concerned I wouldn’t enjoy it based off of the slower pace at the beginning, but I’m glad I held on because I’m addicted. Very cool game.

    My biggest complaint about this game is the main character. Not sure what the writers where thinking but if you don't like the heroin your not going to like the game. She comes over more like an entitled spoilt brat that is unredeemable. Apart from the character this game had all the ingredients to be great.

    I truly don’t understand the hate. For luminous studios first game I think they did an amazing job. I’m fully convinced the mass gamer base is braindead considering Elden ring can win game of the year and it’s trash. Meanwhile a brand new IP with an interesting story and entirely fresh combat system gets hated on. If it looks cool to you then buy it, screw the haters!

    The game looks like an early PS4 game, the world is almost empty and there's not much to do. The Story feels incomplete and rushed.

    Forspoken has plenty of other glaring issues like its occasionally janky platforming that results in Frey falling off buildings or its less than memorable soundtrack. It also has a number of additional points to praise like the scale of its cities and the cast of cute cat chimeras that Frey can lay down and cuddle with. This duality of fantastic ideas with less-than-stellar execution places Forspoken in a place where very few games end up — smack dab in the middle. It’s not so bad that it should be burned by fire, but not nearly good enough to make anyone’s game of the year list.

    World exploration in Forspoken can bring you some real joy, and same could be said about the combat system. And yet the writing, weird visual presentation, and overall direction can really bring the whole experience down.
