This episode makes me want to get FF7R PART 2 ASAP! On top of that, Yuffie's character is now my favorite in the remake. Her combat style is one of, if not, the BEST in the game. I suggest that when you play the Intermission chapters for the first time, do not speedrun it. Do the side quests as it will make you more attached to the protagonist.

Sonon, a new character, is also likeable.

Sonon, a new character, is also likeable. I think the game gave him a good enough back story (considering this is only two chapters) and his involvement in the game may drive Yuffie's character development as the remake goes on. These two characters together are very human in nature. A teenager trying to act more mature than her age, like all other teenagers, and a companion with genuine intentions and support for our lovable protagonist.

WATCH OUT FOR THE TEASER AT THE END. What's next for Team Cloud? How will the story go now that we are introduced to new story points?

So, charging $20 for a DLC that can be completed in around 3 hours is pure greed. If you want to complete the optional filler content (collect posters and the board game) you can add another 1-2 hours for a total of 4-5 hours.

If you don't care about the optional side-activites, the value for money is very low here. Speaking of side activitites, the breaking boxes mini-game etc, I think

The final boss was cool, but the rest of Chapter 2 was basically just a gauntlet of fighting.

If you enjoyed the main game this dlc will be great for you. The new gameplay and the mini games are the best parts of the game. Also, the graphics are amazing. The only problem is that the story mode was too short. However, for completing the game on hard mode and beating the secret bosses it will take around 13 hours which is not bad at all.

Her playstyle is different from the main game's heroes, she throws a bladed weapon which attaches to enemies and she can either deal damage with magic attacks from a distance or launch herself towards enemies to land melee physical attacks. Accompanying her is Sonon, a new character you can't take direct control of (unlike the main game where you can freely switch between heroes during battles) but only issue commands to perform. The overall level of difficulty is quite easy, but Hard Mode (unlocked after beating the DLC once) is a step up. You'll have to grind to Level 50 before attempting to survive on Hard Mode, but even then it's doable.

Contentwise this episode is poor. They rehash the Midgar slums map for chapter 1 with a couple of quick missions, and have a series of boringly-designed dungeons inside Shinra HQ in chapter 2. There are 3 new boss fights but only the last one is challenging. The combat simulator makes a return, you can grind fights to farm XP and reach Level 50, and there is a couple of new simulator-only boss fights. They added another simulator boss which confusingly can be accessed only through the main game's combat simulator. Also they added a mini game (Fort Condor) which is interesting and challenging. You are looking at 5 hours or so to beat the DLC, and another 5 hours to beat it again on Hard Mode. Another 5 hours if you go for all the trophies.

Graphics and music are as cool as they are on the main Final Fantasy VII Remake game, but the story is almost non-existent. It's a happy go lucky ride for Yuffie, with little happening along the way. Just like the main game, you got the option to run the game in either Performance (60 fps at 1512p) or Graphics Mode (30 fps at 4K).

Overall, the Episode Intermission is an expansion to the main Final Fantasy VII Remake game, but with less substance than required. For $20/€20 you don't get a good deal of content. Should have been priced half that or less. Or the content should have been of higher quality.

The initial pace is very slow and by the moment you get into the action its pretty much over. The first chapter is mostly recycled from the maingame and by doing some additional stuff along the road I got to the final credits in about 5hrs. The DLC consists basically of two chapters in total. Besides the minigames there are some post-game things you can do, e.g. combat simulator. Chapter selection is re-introduced from the maingame.

The minigames are not my soup although Fort Condor has a certain charme, the training parcours felt very annoying to me. I appreciated how they introduced Yuffie and the boss fights were pretty enjoyable. The final sequence gives you another 2-3 pieces to think about for FF7R-2.

Overall the base game, graphics and atmosphere is still stunning but I cannot give the DLC alone a 10/10 as I did with the maingame. If you take in account that chapter 1 is very slow and re-used the DLC is short and doesnt bring too much additional stuff. 20€ feels too much for that. For franchise fans this is probably a must-have and you will be definitely enjoying it. If you feel tight on money it is worth to wait for a sale of 20-25%.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To just be DLC, this is great! you will play and become so enamored that you almost think that this is its own game.
Just in case a person is wanting to know when exactly this takes place alongside the main game, this is 2 chapters with the first taking place as Cloud & Aerith start chapter 8 in the main game and the second chapter taking place during chapter 16.
Along with this DLC you can purchase the Cacstar weapon for Yuffie but that may not be worth the cash for all people but as a completionist, I had to have it!

The boss fights are great, the pacing is pretty solid and there is a decent amount of side content, even though the sidequests aren't that good, they just exist only to add a little bit more playtime, because the story is actually very short, but it never gets boring, I had so much fun revisiting the world of Final Fantasy VII Remake and I'm very glad I did.

The DLC features Yuffie Kirasagi, a 16 years old ninja, whose immature attempts to make people take her seriously are both cute and comical. In combat she offers a perfect combination of agility and power. I wish her adventure was longer than 4-6 hours, introduced a new hub, and expanded the main story somehow. [08/2021, p.81]
