A beautiful, “zen” 2D sea journey with clever puzzles and a captivating atmosphere. This is what indie and video games in general should be like.

These are nitpicks though. Far: Changing Tides manages to take players on an emotionally engaging journey without a word, with a ship and the seas as your only companions. From beautiful isolation comes an unforgettable experience. If this sounds remotely like something that’s for you, definitely check it out.

FAR: Changing Tides is a beautiful game with a stunning soundtrack that puts you in control of a ship you'll build a fantastic bond with.

Contemplative and striking, FAR: Changing Tides is an indie adventure that should be sought out. The light gameplay and sparse storytelling may not be for everyone, but it makes up for these deficiencies with its gorgeous visual design and excellent pace.

FAR: Changing Tides even when it's at its best feels like the game world itself: empty. It feels a bit that the game aspect was less important than the experience part. I believe FAR: Lone Sails offers a much more dynamic experience than the sequel. Yet, despite its shortcomings, FAR: Changing Tides is just as recommendable, especially if you liked the first game in the series. It has a kind of magic that is worth experiencing at least once, even if the replay value is quite thin. Is it for everyone? Definitely not! But those who look for their games off the beaten path, FAR: Changing Tides won't disappoint.

Changing Tides is a sequel that knows how to expand the great ideas of the first one, although not always successfully.

FAR: Changing Tides is largely more of the same. With how good the first title is, that’s not a bad thing, but it leaves a little something to be desired. Great sound design and music, as well as incredible environmental art, don’t quite balance out the pacing issues, hard as they try. Your new vessel has more components to juggle than last time, and it’s mechanically satisfying, but you spend too much time doing it. While traveling underwater does add a new gameplay component to account for, the puzzles don’t offer enough of a challenge. All that said, Changing Tides is still worth your time.

That 6 user rating below makes no sense and needs to be removed. This game rocks and more need to be made like it.

I think the ship is a little cumbersome to operate which does take away a bit for the gameplay; It makes it hard to appreciate the the sights and sounds when you’re fumbling with this mechanical monstrosity. Overall a very fun game though with a charming wordless story. Expand

FAR: Changing Tides is sequel to the first game FAR: Lone Sails. It was very atmospheric puzzle game, which I reviewed and gave score of 5/5. Is the sequel any better?

    TO THE SEAS
FAR: Changing Tides is very much like the first game; player has to maneuver the ship across the sea and do puzzles to open blocked pathways. The ship gets new upgrades along the way so it can go even underwater this time. I found the gameplay being very simple and after learning how the ship is controlled it became easy to sail. The ship can be powered by the sails or burning materials found in the bottom of the sea. There is a sonar scanner that shows when there’s materials in the bottom, making it easy to collect them.

Graphically the game looks almost the same than the first one, its very simple and clean. Overall gameplay and controls are easy, nothing special to mention.

    THE VERDICT
FAR: Changing Tides is nice little puzzle-adventure game, that is about 2-3 hours long. It’s relaxing and easy going, just perfect size to play through one sitting. It implement new things such as the submarine, making the gameplay new and interesting.

Most of the time is spent pushing your ship forward by controlling the sails or feeding the furnace of your ship's engine, as well as maintaining other aspects of your maritime life. Sometimes you pop out of your ship to solve some puzzle that is keeping you from progressing.

It's a beautiful voyage across a desolate ocean, interspersed with contemplative moments like coming across a swarm of luminescent jellyfish. I love love LOVE games where there is no talking, and the gameplay speaks for itself.
