I was worried that this game would turn out to be another soulless copy & paste licensed anime game that is just smashed together to get easy money from the fans, like for example My Hero One’s Justice. Since I was a big fan of the anime & manga, I still had to get it and I’m gladly fairly surprised.

Since I was a big fan of the anime & manga, I still had to get it and I’m gladly fairly surprised.

My biggest complaint is the story. If you don’t know the source material, don’t even bother. You won’t really enjoy the story. And for the fans, well it’s the story you already know. And that’s a shame, they really missed the chance to tell a new and original story, some sort of side-story or something.

But still they have done a good job adapting the story into an actual game. Instead of having just the fights and cutscenes in-between, like in a lot of these games, you actually have sections where you can explore surprisingly big areas, collect stuff, and do tiny side missions. That’s what surprised me the most.

The fights themselves are what you expect them to be. They are not groundbreaking, new or innovative, but they are a lot of fun and look amazing. And I think the most fun comes from trying out all these characters you know and love, find out how they play and just finally control them for yourself.

The graphics are phenomenal. I would even go so far and say that this is easily one of the best-looking anime games ever made. While the anime already looked incredibly good, they have done a perfect job translating this into a 3D game.
Sadly as amazing as the graphics look, so stiff and odd are the animations. They look just not really polished and are a bit of a contrast to the overall great graphics.

But in the end, this is a surprisingly good adaption. If they would have made an original story and not just retold the already known story, this could have been easily a 10/10 for me.

I can’t believe there’s someone out there not liking this game. We are getting 6 new free characters as the time goes so you can’t get bored. The story mode is so beautiful and in my opinion the most competitive arena fighter. Its a 10/10 for me 100% but not for everyone.

Demon Slayer is a Fantastic Anime game with honestly The best Story mode CC2 has done Since Storm 2 imho. The Gameplay while similar to Storm on the surface is much more different In the nitty gritty Mechanical level. This game is just much much more in depth then Storm gameplay wise and has the potential for great Competitive play, Also Bonus points for Actually having The Animes Music play in the game which most anime games fail to Have due to licensing issues im sure, seriously the Music from the Actual anime makes the Games Boss fights and story moments that much more impactful, and MAN the boss fights while Easy aside from last few, are all an absolute spectecal and blast to play against. Were also getting 6 Free playable Demons via free updates which is nice. Honestly this is Quite litterally One of if not The best Anime To Game adaptation ive ever seen its Masterful, CC2 knocked it out of the Park, my only criticism is the small roster size but Ill give it credit that every character aside from acadamy versions feels totally unique and Different from eachother even characters with the same attacks Those attacks have different combo and Attack properties, the 6 free demons should of been in at launch but at least were getting them for free. If this game had a roster of like 30 it would be flat out perfect. Highly recommend to ANY Anime fan especially Demon Slayer Fans!

Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles is a fighting game that balances depth and accessibility quite well. The Visuals are really, like, really good and it‘s better when played with friends.
The story mode feels outdated, but it doesn‘t feel like it‘s the main focus of the game.
Overall I would recommend the game to fans of the franchise!

Demon Slayer on PS5 is almost a carbon copy of Naruto Ninja Storm. It plays almost identical. If you are a fan of the Ninja Storm Series then this game is for you.

It was nice to recreate these moments and play through them however I didn't feel any sense of excitement. It was things I had already seen so I wasn't blown away at any point. The game doesn't have side quests either so you are on a linear path with no real exploration minus walking a few steps outside your path to get a memory shard.
the game is beautiful and the fighting is smooth and well polished. My biggest gripe of the game is the amount of playable characters. There is about 10 characters with multiple duplicate characters.
there is a lot to be looking forward to in future games but as it stands demon slayer is a good starting point for those wanting to get introduced to the series or a fun game to revisit the series.

"Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles" has become a good game. The storyline is told well and is pleasantly loosened up and adapted by the various elements. The battles are easy to handle and always challenging. In addition, new updates keep coming and bring new elements into the game. So fans and genre fans should take a look at "Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles" - it's worth it.

This game is very much like its predecessors from the creator Cyber Connect 2, the Naruto Ultimate Storm franchise. I would appreciate it more if it was more like Dragon Ball Kakarot.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Excellent game, better than I expected. As a huge fan of the series I was surprised with the storyline and how accurate it was to the Anime / Manga.

This game isn't a masterpiece since it's got few flaws. For instance the dialogue during missions. Characters don't speak unless it is a cutscene. Some cjtscene were quite lazy as well. The lack of characters is another reason why I'm giving it just an 8 rather than 10. Although it's understandable since the anime adaptation is still ongoing.

The fights are decent, but most of the game is just running around in a ps2 game style minus the great rewards and interesting side stories and the long dialogues, which could have been done better. Some times there is a dialogue I want to skip but I know that something interesting would happen if I wanted the boring talk. I could not even continue to finishe the third chapter

It is a fun game but suffers from a lack of content and looming microtransactions that make the full price tag feel too much. The graphical style is great but the game is an arena fighter with some tacked-on 'walk in a straight line' missions. There is a part where you walk in a straight line while some dialogue plays and you can pick up 2 items directly in front of you. Megaselling Ghibli Slayer or not - this is bad 'gameplay'. Cutscenes transformed into walking sessions for the player are only there to give the illusion of content and they need to go. There is some beautiful gaming here but unfortunately it is right next to some of the laziest and worst examples of modern gaming. If they copypasted this graphical style onto a Sekiro engine it would print money (assuming they added a Games Journalist Easy Mode for non hardcore gamer fans).

This game leaves a lot to be desired.

Single player has some interesting content but pretty much just hits the same story beats as the anime. Boss fights toward the end are very poorly done and will definitely frustrate the player. Demons throughout the story mode rely to an almost absurd degree on huge uninterruptible attacks, and enormous health pools making the fights hugely unfair

Demons throughout the story mode rely to an almost absurd degree on huge uninterruptible attacks, and enormous health pools making the fights hugely unfair and tiresome. This also makes story mode unlike any fight you will have in versus despite looking the same.

More than half of the roster must be unlocked through story mode with certain requirements for each. 11 of the 31 characters are alternates, meaning there are only 20 unique playable characters WITH the DLC.

Online play is just bad. Most matches have significant hitching/skipping and they will often crash leaving you with a disconnected count.

The bones of a decent anime fighter are here but the significant balancing issues, online problems, and just plain greedy monetization make this a pass for all but the most dedicated fans of the anime.

That being said the game really lacks in world exploration and navigation, it felt like a chore to go around every level and collect every memory fragment, kimetsu points and other events.

The roaster of characters is a mixed bag to me: on one hand each character plays very differently from the others, but on the other I feel that it needs to get bigger fast. Maybe a DLC with yet to animate characters from the next arc in the manga (like Muichiro and Mitsuri) could help with this problem. So the quality of the characters move sets are good (better than in Ultimate Ninja Storm 4), but the quantity could be better.

Something else this game lacks besides characters is game modes, like a tournament mode or a mode in which one has to manage themselves against multiple demons (or demon slayers) at an arena at the same time, or something akin to bloody palace from Devil May Cry. Something else could´ve been done, but it wasn´t done and that disappoints me.

Overall it is a good game, it just lacks content to keep playing it after finishing the story and S ranking it (not that it doesn´t have any, it just lacks more)

Series fans will find something to enjoy, yet those simply looking a fighting experience with friends will find this to be frustrating. Considering the studio's history, and the nature of the source material, this could be a natural win, but this is something that is fundamentally flawed. The Story Mode balancing results in far too little actual gameplay, and too much time on slow plodding wanderings through uninspired areas. When it comes to the actual playing, the combat is just as flawed as the rest of it all. Slow, easy to abuse, and repetitive. The only saving graces are the retelling of the source material itself along with the combination of the signature CyberConnect cinematic battles. It's such a shame, but it seems CyberConnect has gone backwards with this adaptation, losing every step of progress they moved on with each subsequent iteration of the Ninja Storm series. Thankfully, the huge popularity of the series almost guarantees there'll be more to come with this series, and CyberConnect may have the chance to revisit the world of Demon Slayer.

When the quality over quantity recipe goes too far, you get The Hinokami Chronicles. A visually stunning game based on a renowned anime, that painfully yearns for more content. It is full of forced activities that are there only to prolong the experience. Yet, the sides of it that shine are absolutely stunning. Not to mention that if you are a fan of the series, it will probably blow your mind.
