I believe that if anyone is looking for a challenging experience, then Death Howl is the game for them. I sadly didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped, but it did leave me with a lot of respect for the game. It has a clear identity, strong art style, and a combat system that'll really click for players who enjoy the grind. Like most souls-likes, I can see myself coming back to Death Howl when I'm in need of a mountain to climb.

Death Howl is a ferocious meditation on using difficulty as a crucible for improvement. It takes the mechanics of deck building and twists them in enough clever configurations that players will stare death in the face and relish in triumph. More so, this is a exquisite looking game drenched in mysticism that ruminates on the struggle we all face with acceptance of loss, transforming a game about cards into a truly enjoyable work.

Death Howl is an excellent and original soulslike deckbuilder, that's only mired by its pacing. Progression is sluggish, and the combat is so unforgiving that these challenges may dissuade some players. However, if players want that challenge and love turn-based card battlers, then it doesn't get better than this.
