Yakuza 6 is great! I like everything in this game! With the new Dragon Engine, Kamurocho looks the best so far. Now Kamurocho is really more realistic, actually, it looks like you're in real Kabukicho (part of Tokyo on which Kamurocho is based). Battle system is excellent. The fighting is similar to the first five Yakuza games (1-5), no more fighting styles like in Yakuza Zero and Kiwami. I play Yakuza games since 2006, so I prefer the battle system from Yakuza 1-5 and I'm glad they continued with a similar system in Yakuza 6. There are many interesting things you can do in Kamurocho and Onomichi. I always enjoyed in all the minigames that appeared in Yakuza games. I could spend hours just having fun with the minigames in Yakuza games and that's one of the reasons why I like this franchise. Also the story of this game is very good and interesting. Unfortunately this is the last chapter of my favorite character in video games. I enjoyed playing all seven stories (Yakuza Zero, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6) of Kazuma Kiryu, and Yakuza 6 gives an excellent conclusion to his story. Of course Yakuza games does not end up with Kazuma Kiryu: SEGA has already announced a new game in series (Shin Ryū ga Gotoku) with a new main character, but at the moment I'm most interested in spin-off Hokuto ga Gotoku (based on the series Fist of the North Star) that will be released before the new Yakuza game.

Also I want to add: I hope SEGA will make a remake of Yakuza 3, 4 and 5 for PS4 after Kiwami 2. I would like to have the entire Yakuza collection of games on PS4.

Yakuza 6 enters the west at a very weird time. For people, like myself, who only got into the series recently with Yakuza 0 and Kiwami, you will be lost for a vast majority of the game. I was very disappointed that a brand new cast joined Kiryu in his final game in the series. There's hardly mention of series favorites like Majima or other characters of the like. The story also ends on a very meh note. While it certainly picks up towards the end, the story as a whole wasn't as good previous games. Not even Beat Takeshi himself could keep this story from just being average at best.
That's all a shame as this is the first game in the series to update the main overworld and the stuff in it. From that aspect, it's great. Kamurocho has never been prettier and it's actually fun to walk around town and find new stuff to get into. However, the substories here are prob the worst of the series from the games I've played. There's not as much of the craziness that these games are known for here in this one as compared to the past. The side stuff you can do ranges from a very well done baseball sim to a clan fighting creator that kinda missed the mark. I just wished that the game that took the Yakuza series into the new generation of consoles, (because this game techincally came out in '16) would have done more with Kiryu's final story then what ended up happening. Especially since it was just starting to gain popularity in the west. While Kiwami 2 will keep Kiryu in the spot light, it almost would have been better for the series to have started from scratch with Yakuza 7, especially in the west. As it stands, the Yakuza series should be very well off going forward into the future. This is just a bad game for people who are only familiar with the 0 and Kiwami games to play. Because there's a ton that people are missing by not playing the 4 games from Kiwami to this one. For those who have been with the series since the original dubbed version on PS2, congrats. To the other 95% of westerns playing this game, it's a big realization that we missed out on a great series for years because it was mainly intended for Japanese audiences.

In any event, I gave this game an 8 because it's a really good game. I think it falls just shy of greatness, which it does achieve in its storytelling.

There are many substories and mini-games to keep you playing. Not the least of which is the karaoke (the song Today is a Diamond may be the best in the entire franchise).

But being the game that follows Yakuza 0, meeting expectations can't be easy. I really enjoyed the game. But Yakuza 0 is one of the most complete games I've ever played, and one of very few I gave a 10 rating to.

Still, Yakuza 6 is worth any gamer's time. But if you haven't played any entry in the series yet, save 6 for later and play Yakuza 0 and Yakuza Kiwami instead (also Kiwami 2 comes out in Aug. 2018 ). How can you appreciate the final chapter in Kazuma Kiryu's story if you're not familiar with the previous ones?

Yakuza 6 has superior graphics, but it also refers to back stories. And because these games are heavily invested in above-average storytelling, you might as well start from the beginning.

Since there are very few, let's get the negatives out of the way: There is a segment where you are tasked with retrieving formula for baby food with the child in tow and this naturally means an intrusive and annoying minigame at frequent intervals during this time. The game has loads of fun stuff to do on the side, but once you've done it all, there's not a whole lot to come back for- the karaoke only has a few songs, darts is... well, darts, the Sega arcades have a few classic retro titles, and the cat cafe takes all of 4 seconds to interact with once you've collected them all. There are a few minigames that are substantial, as opposed to the earlier mentions, but once you get through them you likely won't return. These things reveal the nature of the minigames within- they're all just a bit too small to really rope you in for long, so while I'll pop the disc in for a mini vacation, it only ever lasts an hour or two and then it's back to the box for a few more months. That's it, all the bad!

Yakuza 6 hits those classic satisfying franchise points like heavy and emotional drama, wild flair and style, and pulse-pounding action all wrapped neatly within a mystery. As the definitive ending to our main character's story, Yakuza 6 provides a resolution that most long time franchise fans will find satisfying, though a few like myself will find the very last moments a bit cliche. The game comes very close to perfection but only slightly misses the mark and that is why I rate Yakuza 6 a near-perfect 9/10. Yakuza 6 is playable as a newcomer, but it is not recommended as a lot of context will be missing and this world deserves to be as fleshed out as previous titles make it. If you are unfamiliar with the franchise, go pick up 0 and Kiwami and work your way up to 6, but if you are familiar with the franchise, buy this game immediately as it is worth every cent.

The story itself is really good. Yakuza 6 has a really interesting plot and definitely goes for that less grim Yakuza 5 atmosphere in comparison to the one that we had in 0. The substories this time around are fully voiced. The substories can be sad, funny and have a whole lot of effort put in them. The substory-voice actors really did put that extra weight on their characters and it really helps out because not every character has that much screen time.

The mini games including the new Clan Creator, Baseball manager and underwater fishing game are done really well. One moment you're fighting a squid monster that fires little squids as projectiles and other moments you'll find yourself waging war in the streets of Hiroshima and Tokyo. And don't worry about previous minigames, as far as I can tell they have all been improved and streamlined.

The game does have a couple of minor issues however. The combat for one is shallow compared to previous installments. With only one style and a limited amount of heat moves the combat does feels repetitive at times. At some point in the game I had been using the same combo string for 10 fights in a row! BUT repetitive doesn't mean bad, keep that in mind. Kamurocho is also missing part of the upper map which made me a little upset. And finally it's time to address the engine. While the engine is drop dead gorgeous it does have some issues: minimal street NPC's, fade-aways, pop ups and some physics based issues.

All in all Yakuza 6 is a great game but I can't easily ignore some of the issues it has. However i'm happy to say that Yakuza 6's positive aspects easily overshadow the negatives aspects. The game is fun, well written, unique, dynamic, addictive and worth your time. I rate Yakuza 6 a 9 out of 10.

Yakuza 6: The Song of Life is the last game in the Yakuza series, but not the last in terms of quality; far from it. My knowledge of this series already comes from Yakuza 4, which came out in PS Plus in February 2015 and from there I was completely addicted and aware of the upcoming Yakuza that were to come at that time, namely Yakuza 5, Yakuza 0 and Yakuza Kiwami. As in previous games, Yakuza 6 is an action-adventure game that mixes brawler style combat with RPG elements. And again we have the protagonist, the 4th Chairman, that is, Kazuma Kiryu.

When I returned to Kamurocho, I soon noticed that it was visually amazing and the same goes for the city Onomichi, who is also present in the game. Now we will not have loadings of 1 second, each time we enter or leave a restaurant for example. Whenever we come into conflict with some ruffians on the streets, the city itself "becomes a battle arena" (and still we can escape successfully), unlike the previous ones where we were limited to a small place. Yes, we can also take and fight the ruffians in places like Poppos or on Smile Burger. The spectacle of all this is to see smashed glasses, objects flying and as result, the employee expels us and the site is temporarily closed for repairs. It's these little details that make me delight in this Yakuza 6: The Song of Life.

But you may be wondering, what has really changed in the gameplay over Yakuza 0 and Yakuza Kiwami? A lot of things. The Brawler and Rush styles were eliminated, with only Beast (when we entered Extreme Heat Mode) and Dragon remaining and still have their differences. In Beast we don't have those slow movements anymore and in Dragon, the moveset is different from the previous Yakuzas. Each time we win a battle or eat something, we are rewarded with experience points for 5 abilities: Strength, Agility, Spirit, Technique and Charm, which can be used to increase Kiryu's stats (Health, Attack, Defense, Evasion, Heat Gauge) and to buy Battle Skills, Heat Actions and other skills.

What I really have to say about the gameplay of Yakuza 6: The Song of Life is that I feel the character's moves and the blows are smooth, frantic, and full of strength. It is true that at the beginning we are taking a lot of kicks when we are facing many ruffians, triads or yakuzas, but it is because we are limited to a one quickstep (there are double and triple) and the fact that we don't have the quickstep cancel. It's always rewarding to see our enemies taking with a Heat Action, some of theme are hilarious. An example of this is the Essence of Electromagnetic Torture, which consists to shoot the enemy at the microwave and asking the employee to "warm" the head of our enemy. Another example, the Essence of Knock Out Punch, allows us to see (through a 1 second Slow Motion) our enemy spitting blood whenever we punch him in the chin. In comparison to the previous ones, we don't have some old Heat Actions, but we have many new ones.

In this Yakuza 6: The Song of Life we have something new called Clan Creator. Let's say it's a kind of Fighting Manager, in which we have a hierarchy (Chairman> Captain> Lieutenant> Soldier) to organize, take them to the missions and fight against other clans. Correct, if we want a soldier for our clan, sometimes we will have to search in the streets of Onomichi and defeat this person in a fight. They all have different moves, weapons, punches and some characters have special moves. And yes, we can also take our team to the online battles.

As always, this Yakuza 6 also features the usual Yoshida Batting Center, Hostess Clubs, Substories and Mahjong, but new things have also been added, such as hunting fish, octopuses and sharks in the waters of Onomichi, a site called RIZAP Kamurocho to exercise our muscles and improve our character's physique, and we even have to rescue lost cats, which we then send to the Nyan Nyan Café. In addition, there are also Vending Machines, which help to temporarily increase our stats and the missions or the help requests to rescue someone who is having trouble with ruffians, for example. And, of course, the Sega Club is also present in this Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, and we have games like Virtual Fighter 5: Final Showdown and even classics such as Out Run, Puyo Puyo, Super Hang-On, Fantasy Zone and Space Harrier.

Despite all of this, i miss the mini-games like Bowling, Pool, gambling and fights in the Purgatory Coliseum. Fights against bosses are challenging, with a phenomenal soundtrack and feature breathtaking scenes. SEGA has done a almost perfect work by keeping the style that made this series unique, but at the same time make some changes so that the game and series stay fresh. Yakuza 6: The Song of Life is not only one of the best entries in the series, but also one of the best experience of 2018 so far.

The new dragon engine too has improved the game a lot from Yakuza 0. No loading times going into shops/restaurants and buildings and the game is fluid. The recreation of city's is remarkable, I found myself spending time looking at walls, signs, shop windows just because of the articulate details etc... and they have not missed a single thing. There is virtually no depth to the combat anymore. While you can use the environment to your advantage more than in previous installments, weapons and the like feel pretty toothless. It's just easier to grab and swing a human than a traffic cone...

I personally like the updated level up system. In Yakuza 0 you were forced to grind hours on end for cash on both characters to max out your stats, but in Yakuza 6 you get points to level up for every single activity, including eating.

I was curious as to how that would be handled and I thought that a spectacular job was done. Sub-stories are more immersive as they blend into cutscenes now and feel like its own story. I love the new Clan Creator simulation, which is a fighting manager with a Yakuza Family hierarchy. You can recruit characters in the Yakuza universe and even people off the street to create a powerful organization to neutralize bad actors. It is innovative because it has a great storyline and had me spend several hours on this alone.

Character development was well done, motives were justified and the near-complete focus on Kiryu makes perfect sense here since this is the last time we play as the Dragon of Dojima. Gameplay mechanics have changed and I like the changes because it helps the game feel fresh and new.

My only gripe with this game is that frames go slow-mo sometimes and it runs on 30fps. I never really paid attention to it as I was so engrossed in the game itself.

What really impressed me was how Kamurocho was realized in this game. By contrast to the bustling Tokyo city, Onomichi has a small town traditional setting based in Hiroshima. This juxtaposition helped me appreciate the game even more. I was also very impressed by the new heat actions which I found extremely cool.

I would recommend this game as a must-play for Yakuza veterans and newcomers. I would implore new-comers to try Yakuza 0 and Kiwami before getting into this for an enhanced experience. Yakuza 6 is not only one of the best entries in the series but one of the best experiences this year. 9.5/10.

This game is not so bad, but! Authors still could not pass a chance to add a piece a garbage at the game. This time it is batting minigame and substories 19 and 20, wich are increadible hard and unpassble for average player.

Tank controls suck. The new engine is cool but I can't really enjoy it as well as I want with such poor movement controls. After thoroughly enjoying my time with Yakuza 0 and Yakuza Kiwami, I decided to support the Yakuza series again by purchasing Yakuza 6. I haven't played any games aside from those, though I have watched a Let's Play of Yakuza 4.

Fortunately, the game provides a recap of all the previous games and, of course, Yakuza 6 shows some flashbacks to tell of the events that happened in Yakuza 5.

In any case, on to the game! In Yakuza 6, Kiryu goes to find out what happend to Haruka after she left the orphanage while he was in jail. In doing so, we end up in the new location of Onomichi. A town with a pretty big secret, as we find out later.

Like the previous games, you have to retrain Kiryu from the ground up. At first, he'll be slow and weak. But you shouldn't have any problems with most fights near the end of the game. Even on Hard mode. But even then, combat is as fun as always. Hitting and kicking stuff feels satisfying and the Heat moves are brutal as always. You can even take fights into stores and restaurants now!

I did miss the fact that most of Yakuza's more popular characters barely show up. Majima, Taiga and Daigo show up at the beginning and the end, and otherwise you don't see them. I know it is the end of Kiryu's story, so it makes a kind of sense. But I feel like some of the interactions with the Hirose family, who you maybe know for a few weeks, would have made more sense and impact with Kiryu's older friends. Not that I disliked the new characters.

Another thing I disliked where the cameos from Japanese actors and wrestlers. Beat Takashi from Battle Royale and other movies was pretty great. But the Japanese wrestlers from the Clan Creator minigame fell kinda flat. I can't exactly speak Japanese, but their voice acting wasn't on par with those of the other characters.

All in all, it was a fantastic game. Kiryu's ending was not what he deserved...but kind of what I expected. I look forward to seeing what they'll do with the new protagonist, Ichiban, but I will miss playing as the Dragon of Dojima.

Easily the worst of the 6, but still an ok story, with plenty of the typical crazy side quests and games but totally ruined by a truly weak ending, fans of the series deserved better.

I want to inform everybody that I have played yakuza 1 and 2 on the ps2, yakuza 3,4 and 5 as well as dead souls on the ps3. And it is my first time to push out a written review on metacritic.

At times, it baffles me how games like Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Far Cry 5 receives more attention while this gem remains in the shadows.

Yakuza 6 is simply gorgeous look at, prior to previous entries, but I do some complaints in some of its aspects.

Graphics - They are pleasant to touch with your eyes on a regular ps4 (not sure if the graphics has been vastly improved for the ps4 pro). (10/10)

Story - a very well written human drama and a magnificent ending to the legend of the Dragon of Dojima (Dojima No Ryu). Also, the sidequests stories carries a lot of charm and touches on your heartstrings at certain moments (10/10)

Gameplay - Combat has been reduced significantly from prior titles, which was surprising and unexpected as prior titles tend to do the opposite. I felt the need to address this issue because you can see throughout the game the combat can be quite dull and repetitive; It is noticeable once you get all the heat skills for Kiryu. Minigames, although, reduced have been refined to the enjoyment of the players. (8/10)

Sound - The music is on point. It doesn't seem that it needs more songs to compliment some situations in the game. It manages to create quite an impact in certain points in the story. (10/10)

Environment - I love Kamurocho and Onomichi in this game. They have expanded on what you can do in the world map where you can explore every nook and crany in both of these places. Furthermore, you can take pictures with your phone. While it seems to heavily promote tourism in Japan, I like it a lot. (10/10)

In conclusion, I would recommend Yakuza 6 to any person with an affinity in the Japanese culture or simply likes interesting stories, to buy this game ! It is simply a blast to experience and I am still playing it on NG+ on Hard Mode. The game is simply that good, in spite of its shortcomings.

Thank you Kazuma Kiryu for this wonderful journey !!!

Yakuza 6 especially shines in gameplay and in story. The gameplay contains a plethora of avenues to explore that goes well beyond the scope of my own review. I would love to have had more time on my hands to invest in the minigames and side-ventures. I found it strangely satisfying to constantly level up my eating abilities so that I could eat more food and get more experience to upgrade my attributes. This is only one of many paths you can lose yourself in. The missions and substories manage to be varied and interesting, unlike many of Yakuza's contemporaries. The beauty of Yakuza has always been the inimitable Japanese humour and there is plenty to be found in Yakuza 6.

The story is another ball game. Whilst it is generally quite good. I have found it rather convoluted as the series has progressed. Again, if you have the time to invest then excellent, because this is an entire world you can immerse yourself in. For me, though, there were just too many cutscenes that were a bit too long in duration. Another strange choice was the host of new characters, leaving old favourites like Majima to cameo roles. Having said that, there is a strong sentimentality to it as many of us have grown ourselves and watched Haruka grow from a toddler into a young adult, as well as Kiryu going from fresh-faced to aging legend. This is exceedingly rare in modern games and will be sorely missed in the coming years when games become more limited to a couple of sequels before publishers lose interest.

Finally, it would be pertinent to mention the graphics. Kamurocho has always been a joy for the eyes, but in Yakuza 6 it is taken to the next level. I was in awe as I walked into the city and saw all the neon signs and how alive the city feels. Simply walking around taking the landscapes in is another aspect of the game you can get lost in. The Yakuza series does not get enough appreciation for this.

What I loved about the Yakuza series is the convoluted storylines, zany side missions, and walking around in Japan. This is all still here in 6 but I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as 0. I hope they make some changes to the formula. One complaint I have is that side missions while interesting to watch are not interesting to play (no, Im not talking about the mini-games). All side missions follow this structure: 1.Listen to somebody's story. 2. random street fight. 3. Revelation and end. I had a good time. Then Yakuza 0 happened and watching the folks at GiantBomb play through it was enough to bring me to finally buy a PS4. If they had offered Y0 on PS3 stateside as they did in Japan perhaps I wouldn't be playing Yakuza 6 yet.

In any case, I feel it's necessary to give context in that the only of the older games I played naturally was 4, then 0, then Kiwami, then 6.

Gaining XP in particular areas by using specific activities is novel but there are still many times you are going to be finding yourself eating a special set of three meals (depending on how hungry you are/how much room is in your stomach) to grind up that specific kind of XP.

The best thing, probably, is the lack of loading screens. Being able to step into any shop or restaurant and order food (or get into a fight that spills into a restaurant through a broken window) and it makes the game feel much less stilted when you just want to regain some health or sell off some plates.

A close runner up is that battles are no longer arenas on the street, there is a lot of freedom to run down the street and grab a sign or bait enemies into trickling in at you. It really lets the movement of a fight go in all directions without ending up against a circle of people. This gives you a lot of room for doing your sprinting attacks but some areas of Kamurocho and Hiroshima are more cramped than others. What the reverse edge of this is, is that you often cannot flee a fight due to just how far enemies will chase you down. You can work your way through tricky paths to slow the AI enough to get out of their range but for much of the game it's a fair assumption that Kiryu is going to run out of stamina before any opponents do. The solution is knowing when to walk, turn around, or just buy a drink from a vending machine (a great addition) or duck into a store.

The best worst thing? The physics. Usually the physics are tame but you can tell the Dragon Engine is still being refined with how objects in the environment (often improvised weapons like bikes or signs) can sometimes just go haywire in a fight. Not to mention the fact that if Kiryu runs into a destructible object long enough it will just come apart (He is the Dragon of Dojima, to be fair) or sometimes running into an object can cause a physics freakout... but it's usually pretty funny.

I have to say the combat in 6 feels very... off. There is a distinct lack of variety in heat moves (and weaponry) that have become so trademark for me that I often found myself frustrated when contextual moves from previous games just weren't there. Atop that the game really loves to throw crowds at you which, eventually, is not a problem as you learn to prioritize but certain enemies are absolutely annoying. The most particularly of these are the enormous men who love to drop kick you. They recover in time, just enough time, to run at you and land another drop kick the moment you stand up. This happened quite a lot but once you upgrade your evasion enough you do tend to get rid of this by having extra steps of evasion or evasion range.

Additionally, much of the heat moves are gated by 'extreme heat mode' where you enter a state that begins to burn down your accumulated heat but allows you to perform more devastating attacks or pick up larger weapons (automatically, which is irksome) and many of the more fun heat moves are stuck behind this time-limited duration, using heat moves in this state drains a chunk of your meter.

Of course, a major part of the Yakuza games is the story and the game does deliver a satisfying story, is it perhaps the best one for Kiryu to step out on? Not really, but his actions are understandable. The addition of Beat Takeshi is really neat but his status as an actor does foreshadow something when there are no other big names to really compare to him.

Overall I think it's a fun game but fails to really capture the fun of Yakuza 0 which, perhaps, may not be something that is actually achievable. With refinement to the Dragon Engine and some heavily needed approaches to reforming combat and heat moves, wherever they go from here could certain be very great.

However when he returns he find his adoptive daughter Haruka has been missing for approx 3 years. The clues lead him again to Kamurocho where he is again draw into a plot far greater than it seems. I like the story and old and new characters. It gets a bit ridiculous at the end but this is a bit the DNA for Yakuza games so I wont mind. It is about the values of family, betrayals and power struggles. The new characters are amazing. I especially like Toru Hirose who is modeled after Takeshi “Beat” Kitano
but the rest of his family and leaders of the faction are amazing too. The gameplay itself is as expected really good. I must however point out that the controls in battle feel clunky at first until I realized I have to improve my stats for evasion to get working results. All activities level up soe of 5 different pools of experience. Those can be used to increase stats or get new abilities. Beware that those need specific pools. Also don't underestimate eating in restaurants (Felt like I got 50% of my total exp there ;-).The strengths of the Yakuza games are the activities. You have tons of side quest and mini games. Be it a darts majong, karaoke, videogames, clan battles and more. I especially like the fishing and baseball minigames. First is like an on rail shooter and the second more of a simulation. The graphics and soundtrack are good for franchise standards. My complains are like I said I wanted all old characters to at least made a cameo for the final game, that they cut of a huge chunk of Kamurocho (but Onomichi is really nice) and that while the ending is fitting and not a downer could be better. Overall I give a 9/10 and rate it so far as a franchise without a weak entry.

However, the writing in this game... the writing is *awful.*

I'm not interested in spoiling the story for anyone, but there are an *embarrassing* number of absurdly stupid decisions made by essentially every major character in the game that move the narrative along to places it *never* would've gone with smart decision-making. The ending is *fatally marred* by bad decisions by *literally six* of the story's protagonists, in which they allow someone who should be living in a retirement home to do something he shouldn't have *ever* had the chance to do. I understand that the writers were going to dial up the drama for Kazuma Kiryu's last go-around in the Yakuza universe, but he deserved *far better* than what he got in the end, from a writing perspective.

If the story of Kazuma Kiryu is important to you, or if storytelling is important to you in general, this game *will* disappoint you. If entertaining gameplay is your focus, however, and the story doesn't matter as much to you, Yakuza 6: The Song of Life will be a good time that you won't regret buying. For anyone to whom both gameplay and story are important, I'd recommend that you wait until this game is on sale. Knowing what I know now, I'd buy it at the $29.99 range and feel good about my purchase. At $60, however, I feel more frustrated than anything, which is a real shame, as both Yakuza 0 and Kiwami left me feeling like I'd just enjoyed some of the best gameplay and absurdly outrageous but *fun* and meaningful storytelling in gaming.

    - The graphics: improved, but still unpolished, saw borders and tearing apears really often during the game. Specially in Kamurocho.

    - The combat: focused in fighting large numbers of enemies but with its limitations when trying combos. Heat actions are still a key factor but with the add of Extreme Heat Mode there are some lacks in the normal mode, being the first one the truly visually impacting blows.

    - Missions: the main story is good. but the substories are bit worse than Kiwami and Zero, with a lack of humor in sometimes and some areas of Kamurocho restricted.
    - Other mechanics: eating mechanic is really good implemented and works, minigames like darts or batting cages are back but IMO the first one is way easier than in Zero. Clan Creator is quite MEH...
The baseball team and the Snack bar are good adds to the game.

The new character evolution sistem works half good, improving base stats is redundant and the combat habilities are easy to get, making an unbalanced progresion.

    - In general: good Yakuza, but with some flaws in comparison with the last games (Zero and Kiwami), the engine is still to improve, the combat is fun but needs a revision.

I'm a huge fan of the Yakuza franchise and I love the love Sega is giving their western fans by releasing game after game in the franchise. 6 is the chronologically last installment in the Kazuma Kiryu saga and what a goodbye our favorite ex-yakuza human bulldozer gets. I loved every second of it and the series never looked or played better with the new dragon engine. Fights are now properly realtime, you can run away from them, vault over obstacles and even move the battle to convenience stores. Plus you have all the wacky minigames and sidemission (now fully voiced, which I initially was sceptical about but turned out to be golden move as you now get fully invested in NPCs personal stories). It's a shame the game was delayed and had to compete with GoW, which completely overshadowed it, even though it's totally worth every penny. I managed to complete it before GoW, because ones the story gets going you just can't put it down even while my copy of GoW was burning a hole in my table waiting to be played. Expand

The new engine works magnificently. Every brawl, location and cut scene looks incredible. And yet the combat, restricted locations and missing cast members leave a lot to be desired. Even the new side story, gang war, only serves as a platform to show off it's NJPW guests.

Yakuza 6 is not different by this time it's very much improved from the previous games.
    Story: 7/10
The story starts off with the events of Yakuza 5 where Kiryu ends off around in the streets of Kaumorocho but then suddenly got saved by Haruka. Years later Haruka ends up missing and has a baby in the process. It's up to Kiryu Kazuma to find the answers he seeks throughout the story in Kamurocho and Hiroshima. The story overall was good by not as great as the first Yakuza since this storyline was straightforward and a little disappointing who the father was.
    Gameplay: 9/10
The overall atmosphere in Japan is amazing you get to explore the streets of Kamuro and Hiroshima meeting new people. Kiryu moves very smoothly in this game and the fighting has never been better; overall I didn't really mind if they took out the styles from Kiwami/1 because for me personally I would rather experience the combat system with only one style to see how it feels like from the previous games (not counting 0 or Kiwami) I mean literally from the older ps3 era and the combat doesn't disappoint from what I've played. There is also a new upgrade tree system where you also get to upgrade your moves, heat actions, and combat. NOTE: I highly suggest you get enough exp to upgrade your speed combo in the battle skills section ASAP because at the beginning of the game the combat might be smooth but you start out really slow in the beginning and it can be a real pain in the ass.

Content (Side Stories, Minigames and more): 8/10
Just like in every Yakuza game you can get the chance to explore the world in two cities play minigames and other side stories. For the minigames you get to play some mahjong, spearfishing, snack bar, jizo statues, worship temples, arcade games such as Virtua Fighter 5, Puyo Puyo, outrun, space harrier, fantasy zone, super and super hang on, darts, baseball, batting center, live chat cat cafe and hostess clubs. All in all, there's a lot you can do especially with a total of 52 submissions and lots of troublr missions to gain more exp. (Also there's clan creator and Karaoke) Everything that you do in these towns help gain exp.

    Pros:
The story might be a little disappointing but most of the parts of the story are fantastic and a perfect send-off for Kiryu.
Combat is amazing, smoother and refined.
The Graphic is is a step up in the right direction.
A lot to do in Kamurocho.

    Cons:
However, I gave this an 8 because some parts of the game were just not that finished and I felt like I was playing an Alpha version of the game. (A really good alpha of the game)
Some of the streets for both Kamurocho and Hiroshima were unfinished and you'll realize that once you meet some random construction workers blocking your path and you would end up using a detour off the map. Basically, some parts of the city were not finished at all.
Also, the combat system has fewer heat actions and the other minigames didn't return at all.
Plus I found some horrible issues with the framerate throughout the game and some screen tearing in this game and it's REALLY BAD. Good thing all of these cons I've mentioned here have already been improved in Yakuza Kiwami 2 Remake of Yakuza 2.

But overall Yakuza 6 is an amazing game and a good send off for Kiryu.

This game rocks a new engine after all, and whether it's better than the previous is up to you on that regard. The only thing it manages to do is make everything look nice, but at a cost of game-play in my opinion. Sure it's a big change from the established 0-5 but I can't help but skip many of the town fights when I can because no matter what there will either be strong ones spawn or weak ones, and since the stat system feels useless. Besides that however this game delivers on everything else, to the mini games, to the side missions, everything has it's purpose, and it never over stays its welcome. Overall, as much as I enjoyed my time with this one, there are a few flaws in there but it wasn't enough to ruin the experience for me. Please, before even thinking about picking this one up remember to start from the very beginning of the series, from 0-5 because it helps you feel for these characters more when you realize this is the last time you'll ever see them again. Plus that's the only way you'll find this plot to be enjoyable and actually know who is who when the certain cutscenes play. Expand

    Things I've liked:
Going into the game, I've found a world map that made up for size with content, gameplay that looks more fun to play than it looks, combat with a easy to understand amount of depth, and most of all, a story with a fantastic hook and that will keep you glued to your seat. Speaking of this game's graphics, it's not fantastic but it's pretty damn good, I once heard that it is as good as it has to be. My only disappointment is that I got attached to a main character in his last installment.

    Flaws:
The only flaws that I could have seen is a bit plot-related where at one point, a big revelation occurs and it made me raise a eyebrow like "what?" but I've been quick to accept it because this game's treatment of plot is brilliant. Also there is this one mini-game the game forces upon you regarding a baby that I wasn't too excited about since it kept on interrupting but it happens only one time really.

To be overall, I was surprised to find the amount of heart put into this game. I've been hearing all but praise for the Yakuza series and I am convinced, this game kept me glued to my seat and is a example of pure gaming fun.

The game also tackles Kiryu's new level up mechanics, this time getting experience points for each Kiryu attribute such as Strength that increases the protagonist's base damage, or Famine that increases his life, Entertainment that increases his Heat Bar, which encourages the player to pursue these points / medals to increase Dojima Dragon's power and achieve the true meaning of Kiwami!

Yakuza 6 is the final game in the Kiryu Kazuma saga and boy does it not feel like one AT ALL. Yakuza is known for its wide array of memorable characters such as Majima, Daigo, Date, Akiyama and Haruka, and boy it uses like none of them at all. Majima and Daigo are absent for the vast majority of the game only showing up twice at the start and end, Haruka is unconscious until the final few chapters, and while Date and Akiyama are present, they are disappointingly underutilised. Instead of wrapping up the stories of the already established cast, we get to spend most of the game developing brand new characters instead yaaaay... I miss Daigo. Our new cast is this small time Yakuza family in a small town Kiryu goes to... hang on, I'm sorry I got the scripts mixed up, this is for Yakuza 3 not 6... Oh... Yeah Y6 rehashes a lot from Y3, right down to the dumb skinny guy who calls Kiryu "Aniki" who has a fat friend and an old Patriarch, but to Y6's credit, it also gives you two extra friends, but it doesn't really matter because only Patriarch Hirose, Nagumo and Yuta are really fleshed out while the other two, who's names I do not remember, barely matter at all. New kids aside, the plot is... uh... boring as sin. It revolves around this big secret the main bad guys have been killing everybody to protect, even their closest friends, so what is it? What is this giant, massive, groundbreaking secret?! Spoiler alert, it's just a f*cking ship, it's a big Japanese battleship based on the Yamato battleship, I do not care, very underwhelming. The villains are similarly very boring, except Someya, I loved how he opposed Kiryu's very ideology of the Yakuza, even lacking a back tattoo, he also comes with one of the more interesting and engaging subplots, the ending of which, got me good. As for the rest, meh, there's a red guy you gotta beat up a few times, a purple guy who you gotta beat up a few times, an old guy you gotta beat up a few times, and his dad, nobody really stood out, a far cry from Nishiki, Ryuji and even Mine really. The moment to moment story telling, is pretty good however, when the plot really picks up, it's hard to get bored and Hiroshima, while pretty barren, has some great SubStories, particularly the one wrapping up the Pocket Circuit Fighters character and the Idol one were great, the Ghost fighting one, the weird Your Name one and the Cult from Y0 ones were also up there for me. While on the topic, Your Name was great, I recommend it, go watch it, I'll be here when you're done, go.

Y6 uses the Dragon Engine from Y0 so combat is pretty good, but the game likes to place you in giant horde fights which can get very disorientating, very fast. It can be hard to see what you're hitting, what enemy is hitting you, where you should be dodging, blocking or attacking, and it's generally not worth doing anything but defaulting to the Bike strategy. Sega also seems to think Fat People = Trained MMA Champion, because they will mess you up with drop kicks. Still most combat is generally fun and ragdolls will never not be hilarious to me.

I realize I've been almost nothing but negative here, yet I've given the game an 8, so what's the deal? I uh... I dunno really, the game is unmistakably flawed, it doesn't feel like a finale, and Kiryu has one of the most disappointing send off's ever... yet I don't regret my time with this game at all, I like this game a lot but I couldn't tell you why, maybe it's the ending scene with Haruka and the other characters, maybe it's the Hirose Family, maybe it's that one scene where Kiryu gives a thumbs up during Today is A Diamond, something about it, is just... great.

Oh f*ck I completely forgot to mention Haruto

When I played thru this game, I felt like the franchise had finally evolved from the very limited formula it used to have. But, sadly Like a Dragon seems to have gone back to the old..
Still, this is the best of the current Yakuza games on offer, so, must buy for everyone. Oh, and its very newcomer friendly too, so no special Yakuza knowledge needed to grasp the essentials.
Oh, and if you're worried about the baby, worry not. You only have to carry it for few minutes, so it don't get in the way of fun.

I just love the Yakuza series, I can recommend all of the games! Also this entry of the series is just great. The story is great, the side quests are amazing. The open world is a lot of fun! It's nice to play in a smaller open world where you know the whole world after a while and it's a lot of fun to do stuff in it. The characters are as always loveable. The plot twists are great! This was a nice ending to the series. Similar to other Yakuza games, I loved the side content. I loved roaming around the city and going to karaoke bars to sing. The story and presentation were well-made as well.

Personally the combat for me is just ok. It has good elements but it gets pretty formular after you upgrade all the abilities.
The plot though might not be for anyone cuz it is kinda divided into 2 parts one being some yakuza schemes, and the other being kyriu trying to find haruka. Because the of way they bind together it s not that good i think some might not like that and get frustrated. But4if you care to listen to a good story then you might not mind the whole yaluza/mafia plot being a little hard to catch on to. But the ending though it s one of the most emotional of all time
9.2/10 but because of how the ending concluded kyriu saga i will give it a 10

This is what Yakuza should have always been!
    -Responsive realistic fighting!
    -First person adventure mode!
    -Well written story!
-Minigames worth their own full games!

This has left a 20 year Yakuza veteran lusting for more!

Its easier compared to other Yakuzas. And the story didnt catch me all that much (Im still talking about Yakuza level story). So that is 10 -1 for dificulty and -1 for not that dark story = 8. Still great game to play.

Great game overall, with a complex plot and amazing fighting mechanics. The new characters are very well designed as always. The game takes place in a new setting before going back to Kamurocho, everything looks very polished and the story keeps you on your toes.

I've been waiting for this game since it was released on December 8, 2016 in Japan. After more than a year and a half, Yakuza 6 was finally released in Europe.

There are a lot of seemingly dissonant notes in The Song of Life, but from this chaos arises one of the best written open world games of this generation, a great technological foundation for upcoming Yakuzas and a beautiful farewell to Kazuma Kiryu. [05/2018, p.38]

Yakuza 6's intimate story, combined with a cinematic presentation, pays tribute to Japanese gangster movies while the overhaul of the combat and RPG systems leads to the hero's organic development.
