    This game gets me all warm and fuzzy. It reminds me of the golden age of Squaresoft. It's perfect for Final Fantasy fans. The game is loaded with content and I absolutely love how simple the interface is and how traditional the gameplay is. I miss games like this when all we have are a sea of action RPG's in an open world, which are not the same.

    Great work by Square Enix. Very polished game. Can see from the high production quality that alot of hardwork and love have been invested. Graphics, sounds, voiceover, music, combat and everything are very well done. The humour is especially good. Amazing how Square can produced such a high quality FF game together with FF XV. You wont regret buying this game.

    Omg i was not expecting too much from this game but oh.. I am hooked :D, it is so fun. Japanese VO is really well done too. Combat mechanics are cool with plenty of customisation and there is a lot to do and explore. My favorite pokemon-game-like game so far!

    Is this the best Final Fantasy (or loosely based upon the series) game? No. Is this a game with unquestionably great style choices? Also no. But is it a game for everyone? Again no, although sort of.
    I really enjoyed this game and could not turn it off. That is the reason for my 10 point rating.
    What is so great about the game? A simple but effective battle and party system. Comparing it    Is this the best Final Fantasy (or loosely based upon the series) game? No. Is this a game with unquestionably great style choices? Also no. But is it a game for everyone? Again no, although sort of.
    I really enjoyed this game and could not turn it off. That is the reason for my 10 point rating.
    What is so great about the game? A simple but effective battle and party system. Comparing it to Pokemon is the obvious way to go, though it is very different. Throughout the game you catch characters and creatures from the series in a world that is loosely based upon other FF games. You stack these creatures with your main characters connecting their stats and abilities. Sounds simple but it gets conveniently complex.
    Style-wise some odd choices were made: mixing cute and somewhat realistic (anime) designs and altering cutscenes between in-game graphic and actual anime. That is one of the off-putting points.
    Also I doubt that non-FF fans will really enjoy the hints and allusions to the main series games. It might just be confusing to them.

    I enjoyed the game and wouldn't recommend to anybody who doesn't like RPGs to begin with. But if you like JRPGs and are not expecting too much in storytelling you should try swiping this game on discount if you can. It really could be worth your while and money.    … Expand

    I am kinda just astounded. a return to form for the final fantasy series. we knew it could be done nd had a sneak peak with award winning titles like bravely default and bravely second but now final fantasy takes back into its jRPG roots in a way that made big fans of the series awestruck.

    It has so much content and just feels like Ni mp kunis levels of wonderment at times.     Great game! If you are into final fantasy and like light hearted stories this is a must. I hope this game does well and that Square Enix keeps making more of those old style Final Fantasies! :)

    THIS is the route Final Fantasy should go. World of Final Fantasy is going back to the roots, to what made the series great. Its a testament that turn based combat is NOT something of the past and are still very enjoyable. The complaint that the game is linear and that other titles were not does not hold water at all. ff 1 through 9 were completely linear 'go to point a then b then c then d etc. only in ff 12 was it an open world kind of idea.

    The demo doesn't do the game justice. From the demo it seems like a childish and overly simplified system, bordering on boring. After purchasing, I find this holds true for the first 1-3 (of the 21) chapters of the game. Then it suddenly picks up and you realize the complexities of building the right stacks. Really awesome game at 27 hours in, as of writing.

If you are or ever have been a fan of final fan tasy, this game is so full of final fantasy easter eggs and fan service that it's a total joy to experience. It is true that the dialogue is cheesy and the game is very cutesy, but in all honestly, it's very funny. To the critics thatI just wanted to pop on here to defend this game. Let me just say, this is a super fun and fulfilling rpg. If you are or ever have been a fan of final fan tasy, this game is so full of final fantasy easter eggs and fan service that it's a total joy to experience. It is true that the dialogue is cheesy and the game is very cutesy, but in all honestly, it's very funny. To the critics that are bombing it saying that it lacks merit if you disregard the fn service, I have one question: Why would you even play this game if you aren't already a final fantasy fan? It's calld WORLD of FINAL FANTASY. To the users who are tanking the game, they couldn't be more wrong. It isn't too cheesy and it isn't boring. It is as it was advertised to be: A light hearted Kingdom Hearts style tribute to Final Fantasy fans, if you are looking for a hardcore rpg story and content, wait until FF15 comes out and go back to Destiny or CoD or whatever it is you are playing now.

    World of Final Fantasy is simply the appetizer before the entree which is coming out Nov 29, with the dessert to show up in March (ff7)

    If you are on the fence about buying this game because of the lackluster scores you are reading here, pay no attention, as this is the best true jrpg ive played this year so far, and you will not regret it.    … Expand

    Fan service to the maximum. At first I had some troubles with the chibi style, but I must say it grows on you. The gameplay is fun and addictive, with familiar tunes and characters. I'd say it's a mix of Ni no Kuni and Pokémon - all in Final Fantasy flavor. Maybe not for everyone, but most will be pleasantly surprised. This game is awesome!

    The English voice-cast is also very good! (Even has the original voices for Yuna etc.)
    Gameplay feels surprisingly classic (once you enabled the classic menu) and gets complex enough later in the game.

    That stack-concept also put me off before buying the game, but I was wrong here also! Incredibly fun when collecting and thinking about your next combination. Think of your monsters like materia.. They bring abilities to your battles (Vita, Fire, Ice etc.) depending on what monster you decide on. And since every single one of them has its own sphere grid with more stats and abilities to unlock, its very rewarding to keep fighting. The fights itself feel very classic how we love it. You don't really notice that you play as that funky stack of creatures when you cast spells and attack like in the older games.

    You really notice that this is a high-budget game after all. Cutscenes that drive the story forward are very well done and frequent (Final Fantasy worthy on all levels!)
    While some scenes are very cheesy, I caught myself laughing many times. The game has many charming scenes that just make you smile.

    People who give this game a 0 make me question if they really bought the game or even went through the first hour..

    The Good
    The art direction for this title is inspired – taking from the franchises long past, characters from every Final Fantasy game make appearances throughout the world of Grymoire in Chibi form, small caricatures of their original character designs. Fans of the long running series will be happy to see many familiar faces, along with some new ones; this creates an inspired opportunity to reunite fans with their favorite FF characters, while introducing them to an entire roster of characters from past games they may never have experienced.
    The battle system has a learning curve, but the game makes it easy for players to pick it up and learn the ropes while providing witty dialogue that creates a connection between the protagonists and the player.
    This game does not take itself too seriously, both poking fun at the world itself, and breaking the fourth wall to point out the ridiculous nature of some of the situations. It’s this humour that makes the game as enjoyable as it is; players who can laugh along with the characters and enjoy lighthearted fun will be fans of this entry.
    The Bad
    The Chibi’s themselves may make this a difficult title for hard-core Final Fantasy fans to take seriously. While many of the characters from past installments retain their core personalities, there are many silly moments where the main protagonists make light of what could be otherwise tense situations. This is a very light-hearted game, and those fans who expect stoic or moody protagonists in their Final Fantasy game will most likely steer clear of this title.

    Desde que recuerdo, siempre me han gustado los juegos JRPG y este en particular me gusto mucho. los personajes que se salen de lo visto en otros final fantasy y toman un parecido con kingdom hearts son encantadores, la historia aunque no es nada de otro mundo es muy entretenida, la música como siempre es genial, pero el sistema de juego que es una mezcla de los primeros final fantasy conDesde que recuerdo, siempre me han gustado los juegos JRPG y este en particular me gusto mucho. los personajes que se salen de lo visto en otros final fantasy y toman un parecido con kingdom hearts son encantadores, la historia aunque no es nada de otro mundo es muy entretenida, la música como siempre es genial, pero el sistema de juego que es una mezcla de los primeros final fantasy con pokemon es lo mejor.     allmost perfect if was not for some odd design choices, mix of kingdom hearts, FF and pokemon. sadly this game is being overshadows by the upcoming FF XV hype train.

    I’ve never actually played or completed a proper final fantasy game, but this didn’t stop me from absolutely loving this one, and while you don’t need to know anything about past games to enjoy, if you are already a fan of the universe, I feel you’ll enjoy this game even more as you do run into many memorable creatures and characters from many of the games, that even I recognized..
    In World of Final Fantasy you play as twins Lann and Reynn who wake up with no memory, an empty town, an annoying creature named tama that says the every other the word, a mystery woman with a God complex, who tells them they are special… They are summonses that need to set out to recapture all of their mirages, get back their memory, and find their mom… fulfill a prophecy…
    I cared very little for the story, though it did do a great job of pulling emotions out of me...
    And the banter between the twins and tama who accompanies you on your journey like a Pikachu... is absolutely perfect and made me care for all 3…
    I just felt like cut scenes and dialog between the characters you run into are far too long, that eventually it just over stays its welcome… The game would’ve benefitted with cut scenes being much shorter and more spaced out… but they are practically everywhere and go on forever… Strange thing to complain about... but when you’re not invested, it can be a drag…
    What kept me going through this 30 hour journey was the very accessible and super addictive gameplay…
    If you love Pokémon, you’ll love this game as the idea is fairly parallel…
    Mirages are creatures you can capture… or in this case.. imrpism…
    Unlike Pokémon, you don’t have to buy poke balls in this game… the first time you run into a new mirage you automatically get a prism required to capture it… Some mirages however require specific conditions to be able to capture, which you can learn as well as its elemental weaknesses by scanning it during battle if you choose…
    Every mirage in this game has strengths and weaknesses, and as you capture them you can add up to 2 to your stack for both lann and reynn, meaning in total you bring 4 mirages into battle alongside you
    There’s a catch though… your stack can only consist of 1 small, 1 medium, and 1 large…
    And Lann and Ryyne take up one of these slots… which is where changing size comes into play… Giant form which takes up the large slot and allows you to have a medium and small mirage stacked on top of you... and a chibbi form which takes up the medium slot and allows you to have a large mirage underneath you and a small mirage on top of you…
    And when you add mirages to your stack their weaknesses hp, and strengths combine… so for example a water and fire stack would almost cancel weakness to water out…
    This also gives you all of that characters moves in battles….
    There surprisingly isn’t much emphasis on grinding in this game… as I didn’t stop to grind once… everything scaled with me.. So I just fought everything I crossed paths with as I progressed…
    Battles are very simple, and turned based…
    How quick your turn comes compared to your opponent though is based on agility... so some really fast enemies may go twice before you get to go again…
    And in battle you can stack or un stack… of course both options having pros and cons…
    The pro of unstacking is that you have 6 separate attack opportunities… the con however is that your characters are vulnerable as your hp is split into 3.. much easier to lose a party member in battle…
    So I personally chose to play stacked each time…
    During battle you can scan for weakness, use any of the characters special moves that cost action points so they can’t be spammed…, but my biggest complaint is that there is no indication of the type of damage a certain move will do while in battle.. you just get the name of the move and have to make an educated guess…
    Thankfully the names are pretty great at giving you an idea.. but it would’ve been nice to know if you should waste so many action points on a move that would do less damage than a standard attack that costs 0…
    But a really great tool in battles is that you can press a button to repeat attacks as well as hold a button to fast forward a battle, making inconvenient battles fly by… much appreciated..
    And you can eventually call in champions that you meet through the story… to do insane damage or heal your party... you can carry up to three at a time… but you have to fill a meter to use them, so it’s wise to only use them when you’re in real trouble…
    Which I didn’t find happened too much, as id rarely have to go to my item bag for healing…
    And at the end of the battle you earn xp for not only the 6 that battles, but 8% spread across the 6 extra mirages you can bring along your journey as well….
    And all of the extras are stored, and can be accessed at save points… so there’s no limit on how many you can own…
    As your mirages level up they gain skill points.. And every single one of them has a unique skill tree where you can pick and choose which skills to boost and which moves to learn…
    You can even unlock transfigurations in this tree, which are essentially evolved forms…
    Practically all mirages can evolve into a larger form..
    So when you’re ready to turn your medium to a large, you can shrink down to chili form and allow them to fill the large slot…
    the greatest thing about transfigurations though is that none of the mirages are stuck that way…
    You can make any of them smaller or larger at any time to help them fit the stack or your desired play style..
    As again each transfiguration and mirages has its own skill tree…
    You may prefer the medium set up over the large, so you can evolve them down at save points…
    My biggest issue with the skill tree and transfigurations and the point I feel hurts the game the absolute most… what stops this game from being as fun and addicting as it possibly could is that far too many transfigurations have a question mark.. meaning you have to find a certain item, or that you have to run into that larger form in the wild before you can evolve it…
    That’s super lame and can leave your character having dozens and dozens of skill points unspent because you haven’t ran into its larger counterpart..
    This isn’t the case for a handful of mirages.. But it is for a majority of then... and its super annoying
    and kills all reason to level grind if you chose to do so to unlock that form…
    If a sequel were to happen… the game would greatly benefit with having transfiguration tied to a level, and only a level…
    I understand some being tied to story progress… but for the others… keep it to a level... that’s what makes pokemon so fun… the maybe this time moment everytime you hit a new level…
    I shouldn’t have to wait on the game to have a stronger party.. I should be able to make my party stronger on my own…
    A really cool thing about transfigurations though is that some of the mirages have an XL version...
    You can’t put an XL character in your stack, but you can call them into battle, which brings your party to 7 characters and in turn more than doubles your hp…
    The overall level design can be a little frustrating though…
    You know those annoying caves in Pokémon where you run into zubat after zubat?
    Well those annoying caves are basically this entire game…
    There’s no safe spots other than towns... if youre walking you have the chance to be thrown into a random battle… which can definitely get annoying in some of the maze like puzzle sections of the game…
    The world also sort of forces you to have a great variety of mirages… This is where the extra 6 slot comes into play.. There are a handful of obstacles that require a mirage that can breather fire, smash, freeze, fly... just to name a few… So if youre a 1 type kind of person… its not going to work here.. you need variety… especially if you plan on reaching the chests in the game for pickups… that can of course just be bought instead… Overall World of Final Fantasy is a great game that’s super addictive and hard to put down.. Things start to fee; repetitive by the games end... but thankfully it takes a long time to get there… A few tweaks to transfigurations, information during battle,cutscnes that cut to the chase, and this series could become a master class of an experience… I give world of Final Fantasy an 8.5/10    … Expand

    First and foremost - if you dont like Anime, especially the so called "chibi" design, then this game wont Appeal to you.
    Gameplay wise its a mix of traditional turn based ATB Battles like in the past FF Titles, as well as a Pokemon-light Monster Taming and Training Aspect. Hunting down Monsters, levelling them up and evolving them into new forms is a blast and highly addictive - that those Monsters are cute Versions of well known FF stereotype Monsters just increases the Fun for FF Fans.
    The combat System is deep enough to also give experienced Players enough to dig in, but very well explained for even the freshest Newcomers to the genre. The fact that you can build your own Team of Monsters that all Combine their powers make for some extremely satisfying Party set ups and keeps the battles fresh from start to finish.
    The graphics and the Soundtrack are - as expected - extremely well done: Environments are full of Detail and theres always a Fitting Soundtrack to be heard as well (although some voices are kinda .. Special lol).
    The appearance of former FF Heroes like Lightning, Cloud, Tifa and so on make this game a real love letter to all FF Fans.
    WoFF is lighthearted (but also Features some real tough challenges for the dedicated - just Sayin), technically flawless, the battle System is nothing groundbraking but rock-solid as well as entertaining from start to finish, with the Monster taming being the star of the Show here, which also helps to Keep things fresh and motivating.
    The only real downsides to this game are purely in the sight of the beholder:
    The battles are slow and repetitive (well, its a JRPG after all lol) so Action RPG Fans may fatigue.
    The Overall Story is pretty Standard and nothing groundbraking, and if youre really honest you could say its so lighthearted its immature and childish.
    And the character design is what most People may struggle with - many dont like the "Chibi" Look of the Characters. Id say otherwise - the chibi Versions look great, the "Adult Versions" of the Characters look like generic Kingdom Hearts rip-offs.
    And thats really all there is to complain about - WoFF is lenghty, loading times are almost non existent, graphics, Soundtrack and Gameplay are all exceptionally well crafted.
    I can recommend this to anyone that just loves traditional JRPGs and Pokemon Style Monstertraining - especially Final Fantasy Fans will get the most out of it, since almost anything in this game is a reference to one old FF Title. This high score is very well earned!    … Expand

    Nostalgia aside, this game brings a lot to the table as an entry in this series. The stacking system brings a new element of strategy to the ATB system that Final Fantasy (for some reason) has become to be known and remembered for. It is a deceptively simple mechanic that creates depth not only in battle, but in the customization stage outside of battles, as the mirages (the creatures thatNostalgia aside, this game brings a lot to the table as an entry in this series. The stacking system brings a new element of strategy to the ATB system that Final Fantasy (for some reason) has become to be known and remembered for. It is a deceptively simple mechanic that creates depth not only in battle, but in the customization stage outside of battles, as the mirages (the creatures that you stack) dictate the abilities that your two protagonists can use. Granted, stacking creatures on your head while being the size of a cabbage patch kid is kind of stupid looking, but adorably so.
    The visuals, the music, and to an extent, the story all have that square enix level of polish. Environments in this game are very appealing, with the background given a soft blur to add a tilt shifted effect, which accentuates the simple chibi characters who reside in it. These environments coupled with very soothing and comforting soundtrack, make for a very nice experience. The story, while not as strong as the aforementioned elements, is still very appreciated. Along their journey, you begin to learn more about our brother and sister protagonists as they venture in a world unknown. While not being exceptionally written, I did find myself enjoying it thus far and have come to like the main characters. Their dialogue my be cheesy and can sometimes come off as a cheap anime dub, but there is a semblance of a sincere sibling-hood between them, which I believe is their strongest point.
    World of Final Fantasy brings back not only elements of Final Fantasy's past, but adds enough on its own to make it worth bearing the iconic series' title. This game may not be for everyone, but if you are a fan of Final Fantasy or of JRPGs in general, I recommend giving this game a try.    … Expand

    Turn based combat with a pokemon-style monster capture system and enough nostalgia to make you feel all warm and fuzzy. I don't even care if FF15 turns out bad anymore, squenix gave me -something- worth playing.

    Gameplay is simple, yet addicting. Voice acting/Dialogue is 90% of the time funny as S**T, and also they got most of the original voice acting cast on this game from previous titles. I can't count the times this games got me smiling because of nostalgy and witty dialogue. I am only half-way through and i am enjoying it leaps an bounds. This is THE definite    Hyper fan service.

You have 2 monsters "equipped" to your characters, depending on their size. If you are in chibi form you can have one above you and one below you; if you switch to regular    So far it's a delight.     *EDIT* Okay, my original short statement was basically an FU to Nintendo, whilst also attempting to sum up the brilliance of this game in the shortest possibly way. That didn't go down so well, so here's another attempt.

    It's been a while now, and this game has aged... considerably well. Personally, 1 playthrough was enough. The story was brilliant, but the game itself dragged on waaaay too long. And that affects this style of game. Most Pokemon games (as referencing, because they are of the same genre) aren't that long, not need 30-50hrs+ just to do the main story. But this game does, and it means for most - as I'm presuming I'm in the majority - replaying the game again, for funsies, is a no-no and we're just going to keep our original save until the end of time. Especially if you've got all the mirages. Because there were some that were a "once only" deal, and you'd likely never want to try to get them again.

    But, that 1 play through was a great game, and I still remember it in detail. The hilariousness of the story, and the tie-in fan service of your favourite FF Heroes, monsters and villains was amazing. Done so well in fact that I was left wanting more. And I hope to high heaven there is a sequel.

    The game's style is cartoon-like, similar to Kingdom Hearts. But with added chibi-ness. Vibrant in colours, characters and dialogue that - though it has 0 sense of realism - is entirely immersive due to how warm and fun the game is. The gameplay does come across a little intensive, and confusing. At first. Especially if you've seen it out of context, or haven't been tutored. But it looks complicated, yet isn't, but has enough simple explanations with opening tutorials as well as depth, especially later in the game, to allow for you to challenge yourself on hard difficulties or with side bosses. Or heck, just trying to survive, meet mirage requirements, and to imprism them (basically, to capture).

    There's a variety of places from FFs old and new, as well as characters, but it's not so robust that it visits all areas, and uses characters from all games (meaning there could be a sequel, or atleast enough material for fresh new places if there was to be one. Here's hoping). And that the characters, and places, are alternate versions of those you know from their respective games, all existing in the world that WoFF is set in. To the point that there are characters existing in places outside their respective "game" (such as a character from FFV being in a FFI world, so on and so forth). And that there are characters from different points in the timeline of the same game. Which does work effectively at bringing to live some unusual, yet comedic, encounters between FF's old and new.

    All that aside, there is a variety of monsters. Know as Mirages. To encounter, imprism and record. With an extensive lore, through flavour text, for each you find that are equally as entertaining as they are interesting to read. Plus additional side quests that encapsulate a spin-off story of certain characters met along your journey, as well as a coliseum with it's own challenges, mini-games you fall across in-game and even online PVP. All of which have their own rewards.

    This game is bountiful in personality, and enjoyment. It's only weakness, as stated, is it's length. But it's new original characters, concept and use of an entire franchise spanning almost 3 decades is worth your time, and money. If Square had let you down with any of their past releases in the past few years (Just Cause 3, I am Setsuna, Star Ocean 5, so on and so forth) then this game will restore your faith in their ability to create new, fun and inspiring games. And let's hope for more from this series in the future.    … Expand

    A great JRPG that any fan of the series should pick up. It may get a little boring from time to time but with such a variety of content to master, how could you pass up exploring this colourful, lively, and fantastical world?
