One of the best games I've played. A well done twisted, dark story line. If a good story line is important to you, this game won't let you down.

Crashes really drain the **** out of the "joy" of playing this game. Background story is cool, game is interesting. Mechanics are ok, too, but it seems to be poorly ported (yes, I'm talking about the clumsy L1 mechanics -- ever heard of ability/item wheels? Well, they didn't). Music is week or nearly non existent.

Overall, I will stop playing after the third crash in the same part of the village. Maybe played it for 15-20h, but I can hear my PS4 not being able to handle the poor optimization of this game before every crash. Yes, these PS3 graphics are not running smoothly on PS4, as one would think they should.

Huge potential and interesting game undercut by how underdeveloped and unoptimised it actually is. First off, loading screens are a complete joke! Framerate was horrendous and choppy while gameplay was buggy and glitchy. However despite its unpolished flaws, this game's story, characters and acting is what you stay for. The grim bleak tone juxtaposed bright vibrant cities and landscapes it really captures your attention.

DLC is very fun and a joy (pardon the pun) to play especially the last DLC "We All Fall Down". Really fun, light and investing gameplay. The game immediately attained my attention by creating unique side stories of the already established narrative with an interesting spin on things. All playable characters are well written except for the gay couple featured in the "We Came From Below" additional content as it depicts their relationship as tumultuous, petty and stereotypical that adds very little plot wise and more of a burden/hindrance on the game as whole.

Overall fun game but very poorly optimised. Definitely recommend a play through if you're a fan of Fallout or Bioshock or even dystopian/Orwellian settings.

This is the the first PS4 game that I couldn't bring myself to finish. While the premise is interesting, there are simply too many missions that devolve into fetch quests. I honestly liked this game. The game world turned out to be nicer than I expected, and bigger, making for really interesting and fascinating exploration. The game also has some nice new concepts. Sure it aint perfect, and there are still various issues, but on the whole, it is recommended for people who aren't afraid to be challenged in a bioshock/dishonored style environment.

What I especially like about the game is how it reflects the mores of our current society.
Today, all negativity is instantly removed and modded away from online sites, and people who insist being negative are permabanned at record speed.
Well, the society in this game functions in similar manner; people in it pretend to be happy all the time, because if you're negative, the 'mods' of the game world are on to you like fleas on something fresh and smelly. And people who just aren't capable of happiness are either medicated, or thrown outta the society, forced into a exile pariah lifestyle.
It is a state that many real world societies thru history have found themselves, and it is a state our western society is going towards if the current trend of deleting all negativity is continued and reinforced on and off line...
But anyway, the game deserves 8/10 just for having the guts to take a stand against constant medicated happiness.

I kept playing because the story was good and the somewhat repetitive gameplay was still good. I would have gone to the end except for the one mission that was broken and could not be completed. The Ex Cathedra mission in Sally’s play through was broken. The key you need to exit the mission was not where it should have been and I was apparently screwed. I went back to all previous saves, even before beginning that mission, but it still happened. This is a known bug fixed years ago and yet it happened to me in 9/2020 and ruined the mostly broken game. You can read about the many many many flaws in this game and how broken it is, memory leaks, repetitive play, few character sounds and animations, but to not be able to finish… unbelievable. Expand

One mission is completely borked and if you don't do the right thing first time the item you need to progress vanishes and you're trapped forever and I lost count of the number of times the game just blue screen of deathed halfway through a mission losing me tons of progress. The criminally long load times, terrible pop-in and glitchy AI I could live with but come on guys you've had two years to make this stable enough to play!

It's such a shame too because the game itself is brilliant fun when it is working, it just doesn't work enough to allow me to recommend it.

The game together with DLC shows some stellar performance. Gameplay is a bit outdated but makes up for it with the exceptional story/character and voice acting. Compelling story indeed by Compulsion Games. The game design also shows some amazing levels. A bioahock game without its fancy gun and fantasy setting. Highly recommended

It's kind of like, "Look at this cool game! I threw the instructions out but included some somewhat useful and some not-so-useful tips throughout the load screens. Thanks for your money and try not to mind the crashes and bugs!"

This game is not close to being worth the $79.99 I paid. At that price, this game should be on par with Game of the Year games like Horizon Zero Dawn and Fallout 3 and 4. I'm so disappointed that I didn't get the same great experience that left me longing for the next game to come out like those ones do, and I love post-apocalyptic/dystopian games and movies. My biggest disappointment is that I didn't buy the hard copy game (bought it through the PS4 store,) so I can't even sell it to get at least some money back.

If they get around to making a second installment, I hope they take notes from award-winning games of similar genres and ditch the current infrastructure they used for this one. It had a chance for greatness but I get the feeling they wanted to differentiate themselves and make it their own too much which came at the cost of quality.

Final words: save your money for something better.

This game has a very interesting world with pretty good strories and likeable characters. I also respect how there are multiple ways to attack a mission..almost rpg like. The gameplay consist of melee combat, stealth gameplay, and looting sources to craft items/weapons. The twist is that you must be conform to the world, if you're in the city you must take the drug joy to blend in, and if you're out of the city, you must act like a bum or you will be attacked. I found the gameplay loop of story/side missions, combat, light puzzle solving, to be initially unique and interesting, but it waned slowly; however the story carried me throughout even though the gameplay loop got stale. I also think this game was marred by technical issues, game frequently crashes, framerate chugs along pretty frequently, some bugs, etc. Other cons include a bloated crafting system with alot of items you will never or even need to use. Gameplay also never truly evolves (apart from some unique side missions), you'll be doing the same thing (gameplay wise) first mission as last. Also this game bugged out on me, 3/4 of the way through arthurs campaign (there are 3), I no longer needed to take joy, as bobbies and civies did not get mad at me while I was in the city (but down dectectors still went off). My glitched game aside, the joy mechanic was a hit or miss, unique.. but also annoying.
Pros: Very interesting world, pretty good stories, likeable characters, unique gameplay.
So-So: side missions are decent, survival elements
Cons: a lot of technical issues, gameplay gets stale quick, joy mechanic and restrictions like running and jumping, going out at night is really annoying (in the city).
This game has potential, they just need to iron out the technical issues, improve gameplay diversity and mission diversity. This game is more fallout than it is bioshock, but it is still a good one with a lot of potential to grow into something big.

Overall, there are some incredible ideas in We Happy Few‘s dystopian world, but the tedious gameplay gave me the feeling that a project like this has more potential as a story-driven adventure in a more compact world. With greater focus on its excellent narrative, sound and visuals, and an addition of moral choices, it would rise above the unsatisfying mixed-genre affair that it currently is.

The ideas of power, giving in to hegemonic cycles just to feel safe, and other gameplay systems are unfortunately overshadowed by the technical hiccups found in the game's software. It's a shame, because this game could have been good.

We Happy Few is an ambitious title with an interesting premise but it fails to deliver on the things that make a video game fun to play.
