the developers have made the game a second job for us, where a person can't earn anything without a premium account and without premium content. and I have a premium account and since 2015 I have been a regular player

As an ardent fan of War Thunder, it saddens me to write this review. Once a game I cherished and enjoyed, it has progressively transformed into a frustrating experience. With each update, the game's economy spirals further downwards, increasing the grind and demanding excessive spending from its players. It has become nearly impossible for individuals with jobs or careers to reach the top tiers without opening their wallets.

War Thunder used to be a game that struck the right balance between skill, time investment, and financial commitment. Progression felt rewarding, and achieving higher tiers was a result of dedication and proficiency. However, recent updates have shattered this delicate equilibrium, introducing changes that prioritize monetization over player satisfaction.

The most significant issue lies within the game's economy system. It appears that Gaijin Entertainment, the developer of War Thunder, has become increasingly focused on milking its player base rather than fostering an enjoyable gaming experience. The grind has reached unbearable levels, with each tier demanding an exorbitant amount of time and effort to unlock. For a player with a job or a career, this is simply unfeasible.

The game's economy updates seem designed to create artificial scarcity and elongate the progression curve. The prices of vehicles, upgrades, and repairs have skyrocketed, while rewards for battles and achievements have been diminished. It feels as if the only way to make any significant progress is by opening your wallet and spending real money on in-game purchases. This predatory approach to monetization is disheartening, as it undermines the core principles of fairness and skill-based gameplay.

War Thunder was once renowned for its historical accuracy and attention to detail, but the recent emphasis on profit has compromised these qualities. With each update, it becomes evident that Gaijin Entertainment's primary goal is to extract as much money from its player base as possible, rather than delivering an authentic and enjoyable war simulation experience. It was once one of my favorite games, but the constant erosion of the economy and the oppressive grind have stripped away the joy I once found in playing. It is disheartening to witness a game that held so much promise transform into a pay-to-win nightmare for those without endless time or deep pockets.

The game is unfair if you don't spend money basically forcing you to spend 60$ for a premium vehicle or premium which is also expensive considering you can get many better games with that money. It's also unbalanced for some nations not getting anything new for years while 3 main nations get stuff they don't actually need that could've gone to to another nation.Getting to modern vehicleThe game is unfair if you don't spend money basically forcing you to spend 60$ for a premium vehicle or premium which is also expensive considering you can get many better games with that money. It's also unbalanced for some nations not getting anything new for years while 3 main nations get stuff they don't actually need that could've gone to to another nation.Getting to modern vehicle takes years eithout premium vehicles and premium time basically forcing you to do this as a second job. They don't respect your time and are trying to push updates to make it even worse then gas lighting the player base saying if it gets review bombed the game will get shut down and no one wins. This dev team is tone deaf and trying to milk more money.

An economic system that is so broken that the game cannot be played normally. Even if you spend money, you're stuck with no in-game money.

The Salting Will continue until the economy improves.

All jokes aside. The reason is that they for years have been making the game more and more unbearable to play. Combined with the constant gas lighting from the devs on the game forms dismissing/banning anyone that disagrees with them. A perfect example of this is that around 2018 they removed the public api that would let players

A perfect example of this is that around 2018 they removed the public api that would let players see how vehicles where performing. Then whenever we complain about a vehicle not being balanced they say "according to our statistics the vehicle is balanced" - source trust me bro vs us being able to call them out with the statistics pre 2018.

War Thunder itself is a very fun game, allowing players to unlock and use numerous air, land and naval vehicles from the interwar period all the way to the modern period!

However I have had the benefit of playing this game since 2013. Since that time the ability to progress and purchase new vehicles has rapidly diminished due to various changes to the ingame economy and research gains, making the game extremely hard for newer players to get into unless they purchase premium accounts or vehicles, something that should never be mandatory for a game but too often is when playing War Thunder.

I believe War Thunder can have a very bright future if Gaijin reverses the changes it has made to the games economy in recent years, but I fear that if they do not that the game has a high chance of a very bleak future indeed, one I hope does not come to pass.

From a gameplay perspective this should be an easy 9/10, but taking into account the above issues I have to leave my score very low for the time being, though of course this can be changed if steps are taken to rectify those issues.

The economy is an issue. Not truly a free game, you have to pay upwards of 60$ to get anywhere. I would not recommend even starting playing until they fix it.

They made game economy harder and harder and harder until it literally became torture anymore! And when we complain about it they tried to defend it by simply saying ''This is how f2p games work'' which caused bad reviews everywhere and here is mine. Unless you like being tortured and forced to play literally thousands of matches to grind vehicle costs never ever play this game!!..

Avoid this at all costs!!! They are killing the game. The developers thirst for money so badly that they even REPRIMAND their own playerbase for expressing opinions, and shift the blame onto the very people making them popular.

While the initial learning curve is daunting, this is one of those games that opens up dramatically the more that you play it, so the time commitment is worthwhile whether you're a laidback dogfighter or a hardcore simmer.

The Ground Forces expansion makes War Thunder even bigger than it was already, an MMO F2P that lets you choose the war you want: simulation or arcade, air or ground, challenging or relaxing, competitive or cooperative, free or with fee, PC or PS4.

It’s mostly the moments in between battles that bring the whole experience down, as a lack of information and poor menus tarnish this flying ace.
