What starts out like a walking simulator quickly ends the when the LEAF suit gets discovered. That's when the smile came across my face - with the epic leaps and insane running down hills at speed. The story is cool, about a WWII weapons project competing with the atomic bomb project. But the real cool aspect is the Valley's balance of life and death which forces you to be careful with the energy you use. Overall, even though its kind of short, I think its one of the real indie sleeper hits of the year! Expand

The only drawback are a poor save system where it makes you play long sections you played before if you have to leave the game. The indoors stages were a bit too dark for my tastes. Other than that, everything else in the game was excellent. I finished the game in 2 sittings which should tell you how much I enjoyed it. It is about 5 hours long, but worth it. I picked it up for 13.99 in the Xbox sale. Expand

This game is criminally underrated, While short, it is an example of quality over quantity. Calling it a walking simulator is simply wrong, technically it is a first-person shooter, yet throughout the game you will easily spend more shots bringing things back to life rather than killing them. Calling it a walking simulator is simply wrong, technically it is a first-person shooter, yet throughout the game you will easily spend more shots bringing things back to life rather than killing them. The story is primarily conveyed via audio logs which while nothing new, is used to great effect when combined with the high-speed exploration the game's L.E.A.F. suit provides. While not particularly challenging to complete, it is enjoyable from start to finish, and really, isn't that the point? While not perfect, I give it a 10 because I'd easily recommend it to anyone. Hard concept to wrap your head around, but it feels great…
The game takes place as the title suggests in a valley...
Youre there to search for the lifeseed
You get a leaf suit very early on and as you progress youll unlock new powers for this suit…
The first half of valley is so beautifully calming that as I sate in my first impressions video relieved me of all my real world stress almost instantaneously…
The music and atmosphere is perfect…
I almost felt like I was in a first person crash bandicoot game with 0 threat.....
running through the hills with these adorably glowy guys running around, collecting orbs and breathing life into dead trees and animals that I didn’t understand why I was doing this at first, but It felt great…
    And then you learn why..
The animals were dead because of a government project going on…
these leaf suits are powered by life… and to give life you have to take life…
So every time you die in a platforming section you take life from the valley…
    Animals and plants die…
You can bring them back to life though with the blue orbs you find around… which is also your leaf suits fuel for pulling off new moves during the 2nd half of the game…
So it’s a careful balance between making sure your suit has energy and keeping the valley at full health while you try and get to the life seed…
The 2nd half of the game though, I feel takes a turn for the worst as things get more gray and colorless…
I’m not a fan of factory or station type settings, and this is where the majority of the 2nd half takes place…
The 2nd half is when things shift from feeling like a 3d platformer into more mirrors edge…
You’ll get new abilities like being able to swing by a chain, double jumping.. walking up magnetic walls and 2 of my favorites being able to run faster on tracks and being able to run on water…
These moments were some of my favorite in the game…
These new abilities keep the game feeling fresh and really make the 4 and half hour long journey fly by…
During your journey you’ll also run into some enemies that drain life from you, but you can defeat them by giving them life…
they’re a little annoying, nothing too bad to deal with, but I personally felt they were pointless…
Valley Is definitely an awesome experience that by the games end will have you questioning everything you just did to get to that point…
But its weak factory levels hinder it enough from ever reaching an overall solid level of greatness…
    I give Valley
    a 7/10

Only a few drawbacks make me give this a 7
    - stupid save system
    - it is short
    - pretty easy
While this game is great and the developers clearly put love into it,it still felt a little shallow ,and could have been more, but it's still a great relaxing game worth the buy

The graphics of Valley are mostly pretty good. There are some amazing bucolic scenes greeting you a you soar through the air. The downside of this really is that they end up being one-dimensional. You're either in a nice forest or in the dank steel hallways of a factory, with the latter being very unpleasant to the eyes. Valley could definitely have benefitted from more variety especially during the fast-paced sections.

The gameplay of Valley comes down to traversal, opening boxes and hitting switches. When I was on the move and going at great speeds the game was at its most enjoyable. The mech suit is a genius gimmick to elevate the game from a mere walking simulator. The downside was that faster speeds were of course harder to control. This is to be expected, but getting stopped abruptly in your tracks kills enjoyment easily and exposes where Valley is rough around the edges.

The traversal could also be a bit wonky as you rely on grapple hooks being responsive and landing on sometimes small platforms. The good thing is the punishment for death isn't so severe but if you fall from a great height you may be respawned on a platform near to the height you died, not the height you fell from. This was infrequent for me but maddening when it did happen.

The gimmick of Valley is that you can breathe life into the valley by reviving dead fauna and animals. This is a nice touch that adds a bit of optimism to the game.

They story of Valley connects the areas you explore well. There are quite a few documents to read and I must confess I skipped a lot of these in favour of exploring, but the story comes together cohesively regardless. Rather than texts, Valley could probably have benefitted from audio logs that fed you the story as you explored like in other walking simulators.

Overall, Valley is a great game conceptually but you can really feel the limitations of the budget in execution. There is still plenty to enjoy and I appreciated it not being a particularly long game either. This is the kind of game that makes me very interested to see what the studio put out next, and that's commendable in itself.

Great feeling double jumping high through the air with your LEAF SUIT and the moment when you finally reach the outside again after the underground base style areas and the sun is shining in your face. You start with nothing till you find your suit, then further upgrades allow you to double jump, run over water etc. You can gain personal health by kiling things of nature like trees and animals, but you also have to keep the forest from dying by replenishing life back to the trees and animals, so it's a bit of a balancing act but never a resource management stress type of game. I buy indie games hoping to find games this good. Expand

But what was even more amazing was the soundtrack for this game. I mean... Damn. Definitely didn't expect this game to be this good. You just sense how much heart was put into it and it feels so positive and adventurous. (Also from the time when they didn't have to forcefully put politics into the game so that's that.) Expand

There are layers here, and it all meshes wonderfully; the story, playing out like a radio drama as you explore the locations in which it took place; the Valley as this beautiful, vulnerable, and magical location; and the themes, which explore life, death, and purpose with surprising nuance.

Despite a cliché story, unnecessary combat and some borrowed elements, Valley delivers a well-paced, beautifully scored, and engaging first-person adventure. At times it achieves an extraordinary sense of majestic isolation, but more peaks and less valleys would have helped this adventure truly soar.

A walking simulator that's very much worth playing, Valley sports wonderful environments, intuitive gameplay and a brilliant soundtrack. To top it all of, this game's story is memorable almost to a fault.
