    Unexpectedly good game. I’ve decided to play Until Dawn prior other “Supermassive Games” games and was not disappointed. Tension is well balanced. Recommend.

    As far as story games go, this game is decent. If somebody asked me what story games I'd recommend, I'd say Detroit, then Heavy Rain, then Until Dawn. I'd say that this game focuses more on the death aspect of characters than other story games. Meaning the story doesn't really branch past whether a character is dead or not. I've played through it a good amount of time. Some of theAs far as story games go, this game is decent.     I love this kind of game! Your choices will change everything... great game with great graphics. It is very scary. I screamed much and during the entire game I thought I was in the game really. I recommend it if you like non-linear narrations and horror games as well. It is like a movie but you have to be careful when you play it because nothing is like you think.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Until Dawn can be summed up in one sentence: Those B category horror movies but it's interactive.

    In the beginning you get introduced to the main eight characters in the span of like 30 minutes but getting to know them even barely can and does take multiple chapters which to me is slow as hell. Nothing that meaningful or interesting happens in the first few chapters; even in the middle I felt like only a few moments here and there had action or meaningfulness or just something that didn't put my mind on autopilot.

    This game hasn't really age well in my opinion. Well, at least the story certainly has not. The visuals still look great, nothing wrong there but the story as I've stated before feels every bit like a semi-garbage horror movie in which everyone makes the dumbest decisions and like a third of the dialog is so cringe you don't want to watch it. The time it got more interesting was when the wendigos showed up. Until then most thigs were not really interesting or significant. There are also some decisions that can be critical for no apparent reason. For example if you shoot Ashley when she and Chris are tied up, she lets Chris die for no reason when a wendigo is chasing him. First off: the bullet was a blank (as Josh explains) and Two: Ashley wanted to save Chris and Three: they doth have a crush on each other; this makes no sense. But I digress, there are some unnecessarily significant choices.

    Whether someone likes a character is entirely dependent on them but I disliked Emily the most simple because she was acting like and entitles **** most of the time. My favorite is either Mike or Ashley. I liked Mike because he is the coolest for me and most exciting things happened while he was around. He's just more memorable than the others to me. He's not the most loyal or funny (which is a trait that should've been left out of this game in my opinion because of its insignificancy) so he's not perfect by any means. Ashley was also likeable because she seemed like the most compassionate (which would've been a better choice than funny); well at least in my playthrough, who knows what she would've done if I played differently. Matt was a strong meh; he just didn't get enough screen time. Everyone else was fine enough.

    Josh's intentions didn't really make much sense for me. I don't get why he wanted to torture everyone. Yes, his sisters suffered a terrible death but that is no reason for him to make his friends suffer. He clearly suffered major trauma because of the events in the final chapter. He went to a therapist who I really hated. He was so ambiguous most of the time; the time I even remotely liked Dr. Hill was when he was calling Josh a psychopath. His hallucination in the mines just before dawn was giving off exactly how he feels inside and a bit later he gets killed by Hannah's wendigo (which to my knowledge requires a living human but I guess a wendigo bite can resurrect people) which I find odd because, yes wendigos kill people to eat them but it being Hannah had some significance considering it's pointed out in the game but I don't know why it's important.

    To fellow people who like the horror genre, most jumpscares won't get you like most didn't get me. There certainly were some very cheap ones where you almost expect to get jumpscared. The wendigod are fairly scary in my opinion; not enough to constantly fear of them whenever they're around but they're scary enough. The sound they make is sort of typical, like you *would* expect a monster that looks like that to screech. The kills they make if where they really shine for me. It was shocking to see Matt just getting hanged by a wendigo or see one break Josh's (and more's if you play like that) head, etc.

    For the ending when the people are at the lodge I have to say that that is the most intensive 5 minutes of the game - as it should be since it's the end - I don't know why the wendigos try to kill each other. The don't move sections are awesomely tight. For me the game decided that I moved when I did not and that cost Mike's life. I didn't know Mike died until the house lit ablaze; it seemed like the wendigo just yeeted him out of the way to focus on Sam, like it didn't seem like it hurt at all. This would have made me replay that chapter but I didn't want to play through so much just to get there.

    Verdict: I enjoyed my time with Until Dawn for the most part. I wish I wasn't playing this when the writing was cringe/awkward, the controls refused to work at times, or when I had to look up where is something because it was so well hidden I couldn't find it in 10 minutes. It is well worth the $20 on the PS Store or if you find it for cheaper, like I did for $10, definitely give it a try.    … Expand

    I liked it a lot. Great characters, storyline. At least felt that fear to lose them. Better than most horror movies. Because you cannot close your eyes, otherwise they will die. I loved that feeling.

    A good interactive horror flick.

    Good - the totem hints are vague enough that you can usually read what it's trying to say, and it is satisfying to successfully save a character based on the hint when the event comes. - the don't move sections are tense - the QuickTime events windows are very small, but not impossible to hit.     - the branching storyline is great. My decisions made an impact on which characters lived or died. Most of the choices were a little ambiguous, but clear enough to get through it with common sense. If I ended up killing a character it was usually my own fault.

    - the game reminds me of final destination. A movie concept I liked.

    - the motion capture was done very well. The emotions of the characters feel organic.

    Bad

    - Chris knows the monsters hunt at night after meeting the old man, so they should have stayed in the basement until dawn. Plot hole.

    Until Dawn è un film interattivo horror che va visto per quello che è, un gioco ispirato ai film horror trash basati su stereotipi e clichè. E personalmente trovo che da quel punto di vista il gioco funzioni, il problema del gioco è dato dalle inutili scelte date al giocatore che raramente portano a qualcosa di rilevante in quanto il percorso del gioco porterà sempre allo    Spoiler Alert!

    One of the most replayable games I've ever played. If you are a fan of the Supernatural TV series and immersive horror gameplay, you should check this game out. Overall rating: 8.7.

    Me encantó este juego, su historia es genial y buena jugabilidad y posibilidades de elección para determinar los desenlaces. El apartado gráfico es genial y sonoro bueno. La duración está bien y en los recursos como la forma de entender tu manera de jugar poco a poco para plantearte retos me parece muy acertada.

    Really cool game and the replay value of this game is endless , you can play this game over and over and get a different ending which is awesome, the story is cool and I wish they would make a sequel already and no man of medan does not count

    Until Dawn is the best horror adventure game on PS4. Beautiful graphics, unique characters and amazing atmosphere. The story was a bit cliche but it was intriguing enough, because each character was written very well.

    I am late to the party with this one. I didn't know this game existed until 2021, when I got my ps5 and this was one of the free games that came with the collection. I was really blown away by how good it was. You can tell the story was written by someone who has a deep understanding of the horror genre. I went in with no expectations, and left wanting more. So I replayed it again. And again. The third time I managed to save all 8 characters (plus wolfie) and it was quite challenging. And it felt so rewarding. Nothing beats the first time though, especially playing with a friend spectating, it really brought the experience to the next level. I am now letting another friend play it through my ps5 via shareplay, and he was instantly addicted to the story just like I was. And I am getting plenty of enjoyment watching him play and make choices, even with me knowing every possible outcome, and Ill keep encouraging my friends to try this game because I want to share this amazing experience with as many people as possible. Maybe I like horror games more than I thought, or maybe it's just my type of game, but either way, if you are remotely interested in horror movies or story driven games, this is really something you need to experience. Everything hit for me. The story was well thought out, interesting, and with more than enough twists and turns to keep it exciting. The pacing was good too. This can be hard to nail properly and at times i thought it dragged ever so slightly but it always felt worth it in the end. The characters were well written and cast. They were clearly inspired by and meant to fit all the classic stereotypes from the horror genre, but none of them felt bland, each one of them had their own unique personality, and they were relatable. This was enhanced by an excellent script with mostly realistic dialogue with an unexpected amount of genuine humor. The voice acting was top tier especially compared to other games. The attention to detail of it all was impressive. I was genuinely amazing at the countless nods to classic horror movies throughout. It was like the creators took every great horror movie, stuck them in a blender, and Until Dawn was the result. You would expect the final product to be bad and sloppy, but somehow they managed to make it the exact opposite and it feels expertly crafted. To add to my positive experience, I noticed very few (if any) bugs/glitches in my play throughs, Also, the graphics were outstanding for me. I had a hard time believing this game was from 2015. This could be due to my particular setup and your experience on a ps4 as opposed to a ps5 might be different. The score was outstanding. Audio in any horror film/game is extremely important for everything from the general vibes, to building suspense at crucial moments. It can make or break this type of thing, and they completely nailed it. From the main theme (O' Death) to all of the other music and sounds you hear, it is just perfect. The game tells you this, but I will reiterate: Your choices MATTER. After multiple play throughs, I noticed tons of changes from a bunch of different dialogues to seeing completely new scenes. This is a double edged sword though, as some choices lead to outcomes that are not as cinematically pleasing as others. In my opinion, there IS a correct way to play the game, but the only way to experience that correct way is to either coincidentally make all the best choices the first time (almost impossible to do) or just do multiple play throughs. If you like the first play through, I promise, going back and making all different choices is well worth it. The final scene aka the boss fight can be great and very intense if you choose a certain way, but can leave a little to be desired if you choose another way. For me, even the worst possible ending was good enough. NOTE: this is more of an interactive movie than a standard video game. Be prepared for a lot of watching and less doing. The beauty of this is that what you see is always entertaining, and changes drastically depending on what you choose. But don't ever think you can put down your controller and relax, because as soon as you do there will be an unexpected quick time event that may or may not have huge ramifications should you miss any buttons. Standard horror rules apply here: If you're a brave soul, play by yourself, at night with noise canceling headphones on, the lights off, and buckle up. If you're of the faint of heart, play with the lights on during daylight hours, preferably with company. Either way you will love it.… Expand

    Like I said before I’m really not a fan of horror games, but this was something special. In terms of PS4 exclusives, I feel like this one tends to get left out of the convo a lot. Goes to show how many amazing games the PS4 got this generation but ANYWAYS, this game is a gem. Surprisingly gripping all the way through, there’s never a dull moment. The characters aren’t annoying either! ILike I said before I’m really not a fan of horror games, but this was something special. In terms of PS4 exclusives, I feel like this one tends to get left out of the convo a lot. Goes to show how many amazing games the PS4 got this generation but ANYWAYS, this game is a gem. Surprisingly gripping all the way through, there’s never a dull moment. The characters aren’t annoying either! I only lost 1 person through the whole game too so I call that a win!     I think this game is a bit underrated. Until Dawn is totally story-driven, so it's not for action gamers, but I think this game was like, a pioneer for movie-like your choice matters type of games.

    Mostly cheap trills and shallow characters. The plot is ok but the choices and qte draw me out of the game. Another thing, you cannot replay chapters, you have to replay the whole game.. in this type of game that's BS. Just another cheap way to add lifespan to the game.

    Avventura grafica a bivi. In questo gioco, a parte che per qualche quick event, non serve abilità: è necessario solo compiere le scelte giuste.
    Personaggi discreti ma un po' bidimensionali, trama semplice portata avanti discretamente.
    Alcune scelte hanno un esito troppo casuale, e dipendono troppo dalla fortuna.
    Ad ogni modo, un gioco da provare perchè originale.

    Until dawn offers a cinematic experience combining aspects from various horror movies and games. The main story follows a bunch of young over the top adults spending some time in an isolated cabin where they are stalked by some psycho killer but as the game progresses the story changes and becomes more creature survivor type horror.     Brilliant game in an interactive drama style, which feels like a breath of fresh air after playing 'Heavy Rain'.

    Excellent story, which reminds of 'I Know What You Did Last Summer', with beautiful graphics, and an ability to alter the outcome of the game based on your choices in game.

    I had a great time playing Until Dawn. It has an engaging storyline and good characters, even if some of them aren't particularly likable. I admire how dramatic some of the scenes are, where one mistake means a character's death. Some of the jump scares were cheap and predictable, and while the game wasn't very frightening, there were a few intense moments that had me holding my breath.

    Ein Horrorfilm in einem Spiel, das die Spieler*innen oft vor Entscheidungen stellt. Es macht sehr viel Spaß sich selbst in einem Horrorfilm wieder zu finden. Das Setting ist zudem super. Die Entscheidungen sind jedoch nicht so bedeutend, wie in vergleichbaren Spielen und die Handlung wird im Laufe des Spiels nicht unbedingt besser (7/10).

Also the multiple walkthroughs still offer a lot of fun, as almost every choice can make a game a little bit different. The ultimate challenge is to save all the characters. All around, Until Dawn is a properPossibly the best horror game of the whole PS4 generation. The story line is properly twisted, and the first walkthrough will have a lot of surprising moments, that wont let you calm. Also the multiple walkthroughs still offer a lot of fun, as almost every choice can make a game a little bit different. The ultimate challenge is to save all the characters. All around, Until Dawn is a proper horror game, that can compete with the most notable titles in the genre without any difficulties. The game last about 7-9 hours, however the replayability is high and one walkthrough is not enough for this brilliant title. Only a few things bothers me, the first is the camera, that sometimes just doesn't work in a way that creators wanted and is making game more complicated and confusing. The second one is that a few characters just almost cannot die, authors could make the story more unpredictable with the possible role switching between all the characters. However, the storyline is great and the whole game is just awesome, must play for the all horror fans.

Para ser una novela visual, te tiene todo el tiempo atento por sus exigentes QTES,Until Dawn es un juego que ofrece una experiencia increíble. Se trata de una novela visual mezclada con juego de acción con una historia de terror muy original y bien contada. Los personajes son muy carismáticos, y la historia tiene giros muy interesantes y te mantiene pegado a la pantalla todo el tiempo. Para ser una novela visual, te tiene todo el tiempo atento por sus exigentes QTES, así como sus fases de exploración para avanzar y encontrar coleccionables. Las acciones y decisiones que tomes marcaran el destino de los personajes, así como algunas de las rutas que vivirás durante el juego. A nivel gráfico y técnico es una maravilla, con una banda sonora totalmente inmersiva, y un doblaje perfecto al castellano. Lo mejor sin duda es la historia y el enfoque de terror. Como mejorable, el sistema para repetir capítulos para ver otros finales, rutas o logros, se puede hacer pesado, ya que no tiene forma de acelerar los capítulos o escenas. Totalmente recomendable si te gusta el género de terror y este estilo de juego.… Expand

    I would not normally play this type of game as I'm not a fan of the genre of story/movie, but I actually found the game to be quite engaging, if in part because I recognized many of the actors in all their CG avatar glory. Some genuine tense moments, the kind of story you should expect if you watch enough movies, but as a video game, I thought what's old was new again in a good way.

Some of the story beats are predictable, but the game contains multiple threads each interesting on their own. My most memorable moment involved choosing to save a friend with the option picked actually killing them. The clues system can be hit or miss with some clues providing a wealth of information expending the players knowledge of events and others providing useless information. While the story and gameplay systems are great, Until Dawn does contain flaws. Object interaction, the game’s camera, and walking around to discover items is not great. The camera angles are often obscuring and controlling the character feels jagged and clumsy. Some of the player choice prompts are not intuitive. Some prompts result in the character saying something completely different and some directional movement prompts are inaccurate. Game intermission sections with a psychiatrist interestingly play on the player’s preferences but also take the player out of the story and creates a disjointed feeling between chapters. The game also suffers some minor bugs resulting in a character’s torch to spin widely or light sources stick statically in one area. Until Dawn provides a player-controlled window into a 90’s slasher film, and surprisingly, it does a great job.… Expand

    One of the most intense and well constructed choice games ever made. Characters and scenarios are all distinct with many choices available to the player. The twists keep coming. Story is intriguing and very interesting. The start of the game is very slow however which is not a good first impression on the player. Some ways to get away from enemies are also complicated without a guide.

    Oh, it was scary! The game keeps you in suspense from the beginning to the end. Also, I really liked the plot, it ends in a completely different way from where it started. It is not known how many times you will have to go through the game to keep all the main characters alive, as a huge number of your decisions affect the fate of the entire plot. It's exciting.

    Until dawn is a very pleasant game, the story is pretty well written as the main characters and the gameplay is correct for this kind of game, nice exploration, and many possibilities of ending. Just the QTE that are not so good. In conclusion, I recommend this game, if you wish to spend a good time with friends and you don't want to have a hardcore gamer experience.

    The ending could be improved. E.g, the reunion of the survivors, their thoughts regarding their actions, emotions, feelings towards each other etc. Barring that, definitely a wonderful game, way ahead of its time.

    I can usually compliment something about a game at the very least but not this. The story is nonsense, the dialogue is cringe, and it looks and plays terrible. The camera angles are annoying af. Its just designed badly on top of many other problems. Also has performance and frame issues on top of it all.

    THE SUN IS SETTING:
    The game begins with a brief prologue, in which we learn about both the various characters and their characterizations, as well as game mechanics such as the butterfly effect, various choices, and the ability to navigate small game maps. The story begins by giving small spurts of curiosity to the player and launching in the immediate twist that will then bring the game's centerpiece to life.

    AVOIDING STUMBLING:
    The gameplay of the game is mainly based on the possibility of choosing various roots, and that of actually being able to decide the fate of the various characters at any point in the game. Otherwise, the game has nothing special except for a few quick time events, exploratory sections where you can collect various collectibles, and a few shooting stages.

    LOOKING THROUGH THE WINDOW:
    Visually the game, for being 2015, is neither a gem nor a piece of crap; The facial animations are rather expressionless, but well modeled. The game environments are well done, but simple and monotonous. The graphics are not bad, but cause huge framerate problems anywhere in the game, and finally, the animations are often very clunky and unnatural.

    HEARING WHISPERS:
    The audio side of the game has two sides, the horrible side being that of the voice acting but especially that of the audio mixing, often out of sync or with terrible quality; the other side of the coin is the soundtrack, which has a tremendous amount of work behind it and actually has quality.

    WHY 6?

    CONS:
    In addition to the frame rate and audio sync details, the game often feels dull and monotonous, given the characterization of the characters on huge stereotypes, which make the characters unrealistic and very forced; this combined with the facial animations makes the game really unrealistic. In addition, one always has the feeling, actually true, that everything one is doing, including choices, changes little or nothing about the story, and so it does indeed.
    The biggest flaw is that it turns out to be a very corny horror game, more like a trashy hollywood movie than a real horror game.

    PROS:
    Notes of merit of the game are the good replayability, the fluidity with which the game is played when taken comically and for laughs, since it has little horror and the extra content in the game, which is very interesting.

    Until dawn is a decisions based horror story about 10 friends trapped in a snowy mountain. It's more like a movie where you get to make decisions for your characters than a typical game. It's not for everyone but I loved it.

    Until dawn while not being a perfect game is a very good one with not a lot of issues other than visuals bugging. Many of the scares got me, the characters are like-able, the graphics are actually good for being a 7 year old game. I loved the addition of the don't move parts. Overall i recommend until dawn to people who like choice based games and horror games.

    A barely interactive horror film about typical American teenagers. You know, with a cabin. In the woods. And a psychopath. We’ve all seen that, we’ve heard these dialogues, we all know these characters. Still Until Dawn has a pretty good story and is a nice homage to horror flicks and despite being a collection of simple QTE’s can both engage and surprise. [11/2015, p.44]

    It's tense, smart, and able to arouse the player's curiosity until the end. Some design choices are a bit controversial, and the acting is not always spot on, but it's definitely a great homage to horror movies.

    Gameplay-wise, not exactly a killer app, but anybody who looks at those visuals will be dead impressed. Short, but plenty of reasons to replay, and it’s the spookiest game since Alien: Isolation. [November 2015, p72]
