I have just finished the game and I cannot put into words what I'm feeling. This has been such an intense and awesome adventure, with very much to say about the things we do for love, which may not be correct all the time. If I say anything else I would be spoiling, but this game raised the bar for the upcoming games and generations. Thanks Naughty Dog for this masterpiece.

One of the best games that ever created. The gameplay is just great and addictive. I loved the story and I think that’s better than the first one. The graphics are arguably the best that we’ve ever seen on PS4 and the sound’s amazing. Also Gustavo Santaolalla and MAC Quayle made a magnificent soundtrack that fits perfectly well in the game.

Never have I played a game that has moved me so emotionally as this one. I have felt anger, discomfort, excitement, fear, empathy, sorrow and all the while, enjoying every second of it.

Before I pre-ordered this game, I was quite concerned by what people were talking about the story. So I made the tough decision of reading the leaks and finding out what happened. Once I got that out of the way, I went ahead and got the game on release. I started playing it with very critical eyes. I was prepared to hate the characters and the direction. Instead, I was disarmed and won over, a couple hours in. The performances and writing was masterful. I was instantly enthralled by the world I was thrown into. I had a lot of reservations about Abbey, until the last 10 hours of the game. I was pleasantly surprised by how it manages to shift your opinion of a woman who you are geared up for hating. A character that from the very beginning, is seen as a villain. You feel like a pendulum of emotions, as the game grinds to it's very emotional finale. I felt my own morale compass being put into question, as I felt guilty for siding with one character to the next. It was the kind of inward thinking that no game has ever evoked in me. And it's because of this, it's an undeniable masterpiece.

This game without a doubt, has the most intense and exciting gameplay I've ever enjoyed. It manages to make you feel vulnerable and powerless, while giving you about a hundred different ways to kill enemies. When you get a killing streak, with near perfect flow, it can be the most satisfying thing. It reminds me of Hotline Miami and the brutal, fast paced decisions you have to make, while running through an arena of enemies. The crafting and looting are almost identical to the first game, with a bit more depth. I have to admit, looting is not my favourite thing to do in any game, but it feels necessary in this case.

I've played a lot of games through out the years and this one will probably stick with me for a long time. It's easily one of the best games I've ever played and I can't wait to jump back in for a second play though. My advice is to play this game, knowing as little as possible about it. Ignore the haters and enjoy this game for what it is! The PS4 was made for this game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First I will say if you enjoyed the gameplay from the first last of us game then it’s more of the same here. The game has about the best graphics on ps4 next to red dead redemption 2. The gunplay is fast paced and the enemy AI is more smart than last game unless you mess with the accessibility options, the use of the new skill trees are interesting slightly but it’s more of the same as last game you collect supplements for upgrades for both abby and Ellie. So if you enjoyed the last of us 1 gameplay then you will enjoy the gameplay the enemies or infected are a little more intimidating. Where the game goes wrong is it’s story they try to force you to like a character that just is not an enjoyable character not because of the muscles or anything but because they went about the story in the wrong way. I think that if they would have been better off at the very least putting the story in a different order and also gave you a choice at The end of the game but all the characters were so out of character. Joel and Tommy would not have done what they done no matter what they pretty much told abby and her group everything but their blood type. This is where the story fails I had a hard time even finishing the game I played for a good 30 hours and uninstalled the game twice and am trying to trudge the A second play through just for trophies but it’s probably my least favorite naughty dog game of all time.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

JUEGAZO¡¡¡¡

This game has made me feel things that no game has ever made me feel before. The story dragged me in and its emotional impact still lingers after having finished it over a week ago, what a ride.

It is however not a perfect game. In my opinion the game is a bit too long. Not because of the story, but because of the gameplay. The gameplay hasn't changed too much from the first game and while the fighting sequences (which gameplay-wise have received the biggest upgrade compared to the first game) are an absolute blast, the mechanics of finding supplies, upgrading your weapons and your character are dated and get old quite quickly, I was done with these things about halfway through the game. You will find yourself going through each room, opening each drawer, each locker to find supplies or pills. These are currencies which you spend in order to upgrade your load-out or skills or craft weapons. The skill tree doesn't make much sense and the weapon upgrades are unexciting too. Half of the time I didn't know what to upgrade and wasn't really excited to upgrade a weapon. I wish they had innovated more in these aspects of the game as that would have lifted the experience to a higher level again.

My main point of criticism out of the way, the graphics, animation and visuals are absolutely amazing and all combined are probably the best I have ever seen in a game. The sound is equally great, the music excellent. The acting and the way characters are made alive blew my mind over and over. I just cannot get over how great all these aspects of the game are.

In conclusion: While all other aspects of the game are pretty much a 10/10, for me it is somewhat lacking in gameplay which unfortunately lowers my score for the game a bit. All in all this game is a masterfully crafted piece of art and one that will be in my mind for a long time to come. I'm incredibly thankful for everyone involved to have made this game, for me it has been an unforgettable experience.

Part 1 was able to do it and part 2 is at least as good as part 1 in doing it (in my opinion). The plot of Part 2 is almost completely filled with sad events whats probably one cause why people are upset about the game. Especially Ellie gets confronted with these events and the end of the game gives no relieve (No Happy End). Additionally there is a second character the player gets to play that is completely new to the last of us and was never seen in part 1. But in the end the game tells a beautiful story and shows the actions of Ellie and Joel out of a completely new perspective. Expand

Joguem, e aproveitem!! Expand

Naughty Dog has for the most part succeeded in the difficulty of making a compelling sequel. Their use of psychology throughout the intertwined narrative of both Ellie and Abby cannot be passed off as “lazy writing”. To make the player walk 5 miles in the shoes of the villain Abby after you as Ellie have wreaked revenge soaked havoc on her friends and faction for the death of Joel isn’t something I’ve experienced in gaming. It’s clever and effective. By the end of a 25-30 hour campaign, you have 2 characters on opposing sides of the same coin in a story that deals with not just revenge but the morality of right and wrong and the effects of action and consequence.
The motion capture is fantastic, the Ellie and Joel flash back scenes are beautiful. New characters are charming but be warned, this is not a story for the faint of heart. Emotions will be tested, your heart will be pulled out whilst you get kicked in the guts.
Gameplay- not much new in terms of innovation but a more effective jump button allows for some new traversal options as well as squeezing through gaps to make those encounters a little more exciting.
Prone position has been added which can give players a tactical edge.
A plentiful arsenal. Both players have a well balanced array of weapons to master.
Upgrades system has been simplified and crafting and scavenging remain a key component.
Environments are very detailed and beautiful to look at. There’s the photo mode if you are so inclined.
    New game plus.
Array of difficulty settings for those inclined to punish themselves.
Accessibility options are huge for players, I have seen visual and audio adaptation demos. I know that these settings are something that the disabled gamers have praised.

I can see why this game has had some negative scores, yes it’s a hard pill to swallow. Yes Joel is killed early on. Yes Abby’s character model can be distracting at first, you need to suck it up and follow the story, get into it, listen and feel. It’s the only way the game will have meaning. Expectations will be subverted. I hated that phrase on Star Wars last Jedi, which I’m still not happy with but it does work here.
If part 3 is made I will give this a 9. I wasn’t 100 percent satisfied with the ending. I would have liked a little more on what the future held for Ellie.

The graphics, sound design and acting in this game is on another level. It's incredible to actually see this kind of graphical fidelity on such old hardware (I have a regular first gen PS4). The sounds are well captured and immerse you more into the environments of the game. The acting is top notch and worthy of an academy award.

The gameplay is largely the same as its predecessor, with the addition of jumping and going prone to explore the landscape. Melee combat now has a dodge mechanic, which can make those tense showdowns a little easier to manage. I do find getting melee kills in this game a bit too easy though, as you don't have the same depreciating craftable weapons from the first game. I also find it disappointing that you can't pick up a fallen enemy's weapon, which kills some aspect of realism as well as emergent gameplay.

The story and characterization is where I'm truly divided with the game. I expected certain deaths here and there, but I believe it was executed poorly. The narrative is also very confusing with all the flashbacks and timelines. I think they tried to take the Pulp Fiction route in changing up the timeline of events and trying to make it self-referential, but it ended up being a convoluted mess in my opinion. There is also a large section of the game where it switches up the character you play as, and although I enjoyed certain aspects of the character, I could not resonate with the character on a personal level like I could with Ellie. It seems like the narrative is torn on who they want to portray as the protagonist of this game, and it really makes a mess of things from the eyes of the viewer.

Even worse is as I continue playing as the new character, I can feel myself slowly losing interest in playing the game and have to force myself to complete it. The game's pacing takes a bad turn here and becomes another conspicuous problem for the game. In the previous game, the banter between Joel and Ellie kept things interesting at least. Here, I was dragged out in long sections by myself, and even when I did have a companion, I did not find them interesting.

TLOU2 was a game I was really looking forward to, and while it really shined as an achievement in aesthetics and acting, the game's narrative, characters, and pacing really weigh down everything great about it. Had TLOU2 not been such a story and character-focused game, those issues wouldn't have been much of a problem. But as it stands, the game feels like wasted potential, and that pains me a lot to say that because I really loved the first game and had high hopes for this one.

It has its good parts, it has its great parts. Visually stunning, music is amazing, gameplay is very close to the first one. The ending was terrible. 30 hours of my life wasted, and you didn't even get to make a choice to kill Abby or let her go. You just let her go. Nevermind the hundreds of people Ellie killed along the way to get Abby, apparently they don't want revenge. The ending doesn't make sense. Expand

The Last of Us Part II is something that truly did not need to be made. It certainly is not the worst game ever, but too many times I felt myself asking, "why was this made? Just to be edgy?" Yeah the social commentary stuff is a bit too pushed in your face at times, but the real problem to me with the game is that it is clearly trying too hard. Adding more blood and guts to a game doesn't make it more shocking because most gamers are fairly desensitised to that today and I'm all for female protagonists, but Naughty Dog really ruined Ellie and in regards to Abby she is downright just not fun or engaging. Also Naughty Dog's game design is really starting to stretch thin such as, "oh the camera is now slowly and forcefully panning behind me suddenly I wonder if I'm going to be smacked in the face from an enemy from just outside this narrow corridor!" Plus, my god this company needs to decide if it wants to make a movie or a video game by this point. Even in the Uncharted series they do try so hard to keep you immersed in these cinematic elements only for the player to misstep once or hit a dodge button (the dodge button is an absolute joke in this game, its timing window is REALLY strange) and BAM instant death... I mean sure that's fine once or twice, but after you do it four or five times you are LITERALLY pulled out of the cinematic action and are now jaded to the rest of the scene setup... My score of 4 out of 10 solely goes to the graphics, which are INCREDIBLE. Too many times I thought I was actually watching live actors. Expand

And the nerve of naughty dog to try and make us feel bad for Abby by having us play as her for ten hours with hardly any context after doing what she did. And to top it all off, they try to crudely force propaganda in our faces while we're forced to kill dogs that we later play with in a flashback.

I'm not buying anything this studio is trying to peddle to us after this "hot pile of garbage", to quote Ellie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've loved every Naughty Dog game up to this point. What the heck happened here?

Story: a predictable tale of revenge. Ellies character is ruined and Joels killer is given half the game. Theres is no connection to either Abby or Ellies choices. The second half of the game is ultimitaly about fighting transphobes... it's cringe indusing.

Half the game is all about making Abby a likable person, but why? Revenge is bad, we get it! What about the hundreds of men and women that are killed during the rest of the game? What about their families and friends? Are they gonna get revenge too? The plot is paper thin.

The first game was all about "show don't tell", but this game has flashbacks after frickin flashbacks, because the plot isn't effective enough on it's own. None of the Joel and Ellie cutscenes made me emotional, and I ended up hating all of the main characters by the end.

Gameplay: great. Gets repetetive thou, and more than half the game is cutscenes or walking. 5/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. WARNING BIG SPOILERS

    As a side note:
I have currently played through part 2 once on the survivor difficulty and
I have played part 1 multiple times, on grounded difficulty. I believe that playing these
two parts on the hardest difficulty is way more impactful than on any easier difficulty, because
you really feel like you are being screwed over in every part of the game. Not scavenging for
supplies will make it hard or even close to impossible to win encounters before the game starts making the encounters easier because you died so often.

Also, I have heard that there have been spoilers before the game was even released. I have never read, seen or heard any of these spoilers. I do not even undestand why people would look up these spoilers to then end up being dissatisfied by what the spoilers make you believe how the game is played or how the story will evolve. From what I can tell you, the game is definitely worth to play.

    My thoughts and score:
The story is compelling and shows what murder and revenge does to people. I have read plenty reviews of people that dislike the game with such little unjustified arguments. I think some people even gave the game a 1/10 just because Joel died and they think he deserved 'better' and that Joel was acting 'out of character'. Also some people think the ending is **** however I am willing to explain why the ending is actually logical and fits with Ellie's character.

    Joel's death:
Honestly, I think this was almost the only way for Joel to die. Yes, it was brutal but it sets the tone of the game. I have been thinking about how else you would have Joel died but I just could not think of any other reason. It would not have given the same drive for revenge the story gave now by the way his death is portrayed. Some people believe that the act of going with Abby to her friends is out of character, because Joel is always so cautious with these things. However you have to understand that they have been living happily for 4 years in Jackson. Nothing has shown that he should worry about going with someone, who they saved, to save themselves from infected. Maybe he just should not have said his name and it would have turned out different.

    Ellie's mercy:
Its been quite a while since Abby and Ellie have seen each other, as you can see from how much muscle Abby has lost overtime. The moment Ellie starts the fight with Abby, I already knew she would not kill her. But why did she actually not kill her? Why did she not kill the one responsible for the death of Joel? I think you should take into account the states of both Ellie and Abby, and what
has happened before. At the start, Owen stopped the others from killing Ellie. In the theater, Abby does not kill both Dina and Ellie because of Lev. At the final fight, Abby does not even want to fight Ellie at first but Ellie makes her. Then I thought, would you really kill someone, that let you live twice and whose state is already pretty bad? Would you really kill a helpless person? The answer is no. Ofcourse in the end the flashback of Joel is what makes her stop, but the flashback may be evoked by the acts of mercy from Abby. Honestly, I think if Abby was in much better shape, Ellie would have just put a bullet in her head and be done with it.

    Ending:
In the ending you see Ellie return to the farm, which Dina left. Only Ellie's room still has her stuff in there. She plays the guitar and then leaves everything behind. I think she never returned to Jackson, but wants to start over somewhere else. Maybe even start looking for fireflies.
First reason as to why she would do this is that she would have to tell Tommy she did not kill Abby, but let her go. Tommy would probably not have approved this decision. Ofcourse she could have lied, but she probably would not have been able to uphold the lie. Second reason is Dina. I do not
think Dina would be able to forgive her for leaving her at the farm. Also I do not think Ellie would be able to live with the regrets she bears with her and the losses she made throughout the game. Revenge has only made everyone lose more throughout the story and may be a message to take from the game.

    Score:
Gameplay score is 9.5. The gameplay was very good and the graphics were beautiful. Not a 10 because I think looting with Ellie was not rewarding enough, whereas safes were too rewarding, or there were just too many of them. Also dodging mechanic felt sometimes broken, as in too easy to dodge attacks. It never mattered which way you dodged as long as you dodged away from the attacker. As if you would get a short invulnerability time window.

Story score is 8.5. Some decisions made by Ellie were questionable and Ellie's mercy to most people (excluding Abby) felt wrong. She should have just murderd them brutally or made them give her information in some way. Story of Abby made more sense in a logical way than the story of Ellie.

Total score is 8.9. Story score counted for 150%

The plot doesn’t make any sense. It’s feel like naughty dogs sacrifice the main lead of the first game for LGBTQ+ inclusion. Well, wasn’t a good representation after all. Ellie didn’t have a moral compass what so ever like in the first game, a Big shift I may add. I was quite surprised to realize that my experience while playing the game was generally good. Now, let’s start off with the visuals. Of course the graphics, sound, score, and atmosphere of the game is a 10/10. The sound design is probably one of the best parts about this game. Besides Red Dead Redemption 2, I’ve never been more immersed in a video game. Now for the Gameplay. This is where I begin to have a few problems. The gameplay is good don’t get me wrong but while I was playing as Abby I had many issues breaking windows when an infected was nearby. I’ve heard many people say that the gameplay gets repetitive but in my opinion it doesn’t. I actually had a much better experience playing as Ellie than Joel. Ellie is much more agile and quick than the bulkier but stronger Joel. The animations were brutal and at some points made me cringe. I really loved the new puzzles as well. Instead of just moving a latter or a wooden plank, now the game slightly challenges you when it comes to these puzzles. The accessibility features were also one of the best parts of the game. From being blind to deaf you can play this game. It’s absolutely nuts. I experienced a few bugs but it didn’t take away from the overall experience. Now we go onto the most controversial part. The story is pretty good. It has many issues however, and I’ll touch on them later. The story was compelling for maybe about 75% of the game. The first hour or two in Jackson is pretty lighthearted and fun. It’s great to experience the true friendship between Ellie and Dina. One complaint however is that they never act like an intimate couple like how they are said to be throughout the story. They just act like friends that sometimes kiss. Ellie is as interesting as ever while Dina is likable, but boring. She’s literally a brown Ellie. Jesse is also pretty boring but fits right into the story so I have no problem with him. Joel’s death scene was done to near perfection in my book. People criticize the story because “Joel gives away his name and that’s out of character. “ When in reality Joel has been living peacefully in a loving community for nearly 5 years, so of course he’s softened. It makes perfect sense. I feel like people are finding ways to be mad because Joel didn’t die an action hero death. That’s the point. We are supposed to feel like Ellie. Mad. After that however the pacing, one of the biggest problems with the story, takes a massive hit when it puts you in a calm Seattle environment doing puzzles and riding horseback while Ellie jokes around with Dina. It’s a fun time, but it doesn’t complement the tone of the story. Especially considering what just happened minutes ago for the player. Seattle Day 2 and 3 however are extremely dark and fit well with the tone and character’s feelings at the time. At one point in day two Ellie even dismembers one of Abby’s friends to get information out of her, and Ellie seems very traumatized after that experience. Then we arrive to a very poorly done character death. Jesse. He gets quickly shot in the head by the antagonist, Abby. And then, at the climax of the story, it takes us all the way back to the beginning and makes us play Seattle day one, two, and three, but from Abby’s POV. The first day was probably one of the most boring experiences I’ve ever had in any video game because I felt no motivation to play as this character. However, on my second play through I appreciate this chapter more and more. It’s the start to Abby’s redemption. She regrets killing Joel in the way she did, and she knows she’s a bad person. She begins to reconnect with humanity after meeting two children and helps them on their journey to give them a better life. After some amazing set pieces and boss fights, we reconnect to the main story. Now they make you play as Abby to fight Ellie after she finds out that Ellie murdered her friends in vengeance for Joel. I felt extremely conflicted but continued to play. The ending is the best part of the story for me. Ellie goes to Santa Barbara to hunt down Abby one last time. In the final boss fight, Ellie let’s Abby live. Knowing that they both have lost everything, and that it’s too late. Ellie ends the cycle of revenge. The story is about forgiveness. Ellie never got to forgive Joel for what he did, and Ellie sees hope in Abby and Lev. Both women’s lives were consumed by obsession over revenge. And Ellie knows this. However, it’s too late. Ellie’s worst fear has come true. She has lost everyone she’s ever cared about, and so has Tommy due to his obsession. He lost his wife and his brother. These characters are the most human in any video game, acting irrationally and impulsively. While the story has many flaws it is still a brilliant one. Expand

doesn't deserve the criticism it's been getting since before it was even released, the first game was always going to be a tough act to follow and I think that naughty dog did a good job wrapping things up overall, and after replaying the first game before picking it up, you really pick up on the little details about the first that appear in part 2, like for instance all of the promisesdoesn't deserve the criticism it's been getting since before it was even released, the first game was always going to be a tough act to follow and I think that naughty dog did a good job wrapping things up overall, and after replaying the first game before picking it up, you really pick up on the little details about the first that appear in part 2, like for instance all of the promises joel made during their time together, and I think it overall it adds to the first game

Story wise, it was a bit too focused on the romance side of things - it's not really something that you want from a survival horror game. but I didn't really feel like it was being jammed down my throat.

I thought it was interesting though the way that you can see both sides perspective of things, that as ellie it seems as a justified act in her eyes - the only way she could live with it after certain events happened - and then seeing from abby's point of view. It touches on how people deal with traumatic events, and how a need for revenge can twist you in to something you never thought you could be. Personally I could sympathise with both sides, which I think is a sign of well written characters, like how nobody could tell who was the main character for several seasons of game of thrones. I think that the writing is not as bad as it's made out to be at all.

I don't see what all the fuss is about with abby being built like a bloke, if they made a big deal out of it during the game it would bother me, but it's literally only ever mentioned at the end of the game and that is just to describe her to someone. it's completely irrelevant practically to the storyline, other than the fact she is physically strong and it affects how you use her ingame.

Joel is old, I mean. was it really that surprising?

Gameplay wise, I think they have made a lot of very good changes compared to the first. they've given you a lot more stealth variety and tactics you can use which which personally I love. Like for instance you can dive in to tall grass, and the AI of the mobs has improved a lot in that you have more chances to escape if you mess up. Ability to craft arrows and silencers is fantastic The pipe bomb mechanics are great, in that you can bounce the bombs from the walls, giving you a very satisfying way to kill that annoying guy hiding behind a corner.

Exploding arrows! I don't think I really need to say much more there.

The melee combat is also much improved, with the game actually giving you ways to evade attacks and be more tactical about how you can kill mobs. this is particularly great if you're low on ammo and there is only 1 or 2 infected. I think you could potentially go through most of the game barely ever using guns apart from bosses. I think it's very cool how they give you that option.

The crafting and steroid/power up mechanics in the game feels much more interesting, the options didn't feel as much of a clean cut choice as in the first, and you had more options to cater the weapon to your style of play during the initial playthough, which I think is cool. For instance focusing on weapon stability if you suck at aiming like me, or just raw damage - or scopes if you see yourself as more of a sniper.

the new infected mobs are great, I think the added variety of the mutations has really added a lot to the combat and made you adjust how you approach different situations and how you save, for example, a loaded shotgun in case a pack of stalkers pop out of nowhere, or a couple of molotov's in case you get some of the big nasties. the rat king battle in particular was great, oodles of fun with a flamethrower..

overall I highly recommend this game if you liked the first, but I'd recommend going in to it with an open mind and make up your own opinions about it. It's worth the chance in my opinion.

Masterpiece. The only other game that has made me feel emotionally attatched and conflicted is The Last of Us. And they did it again with part 2. The gameplay was great and fluid. The story shakes you up, teaches lessons, and was written as perfect as one can expect. The characters are dynam 10/10.

The game is a masterpiece. Even though the plot may be opinable (it is a subjective thing anyway), as a game it is perfect. I have never seen a game with this level of detail. Every corner of every building has that single detail that makes you smile. The gameplay is perfect too, with very high level of design.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
