Poor story telling and poor game-play......uninspired and pushing an agenda....Poor experience, I don't recommend it. I waited 5 years to play this......The graphics and production quality are the only redeeming qualities

Bad story with a good gameplay? Naughty dog is this a joke? It supposed to be a TLOU game not COD.

This game has everything you could ask for if you live on twitter and tumblr.

Beloved male character dying brutally. Female protagonist. Lesbian kiss. Trans people. Women who do not look like "models". Women beating men down. Every minority you can think of represented. They did it. Naughty Dog changed society. What a brave accomplishment. Jokes aside, fantastic on the technical

Disappointing. This game was just abysmal. The story ruined the first game and has ruined the franchise. Not worth your time or money.

The story is just gore and porn, forced brutality that does not lead to anywhere. If you loved original TLOU for its story, characters, and emotionalism you should not play this game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I just finished playing The Last of Us Part 2 and I’m very disappointed. The way that Naughty Dog handled the game is horrible and I can’t believe that someone approved this game to be release because this game was one of the games, I was the most anticipating and I don’t know what happened. They went in a completely different direction that they went for in the first game and they did not need to go out of their way for this game. The Last of Us Part 1 was about hope, redemption and family and this game have nothing of what I loved about the first game. What I loved about the first game was the story, the character development and also the development of the relationships between the characters. Joel had just lost his daughter and he did not want to care about other people because of course it’s a scary time during the apocalypse and people are dying, but his love for Ellie grew up, it felt as if it was a father/daughter relationship. Personally, I never cared that much about the gameplay of The Last of Us, for me it’s all in the story and the characters. Games like Grand Theft Auto and Mario Kart are games that I play for the gameplay much more than for the story, The Last of Us is a game that I loved because of his story. The graphics are very nice for a console game, the sounds are great, the gameplay is great, the soundtrack is excellent and the overall technical aspects of the game are awesome and I want to give props to the people that worked on those aspects of the game, they did a very good job and the work of those people should be mentioned. So now, I’ll talk about what I didn’t like in the game. First of all, I want to say that the LGBT inclusion in The Last of us didn’t bother me at all and it had the potential to be used in a great way, but in this game, it felt force and was useless at times. Ellie was lesbian and we already knew it since the Left Behind DLC, we even saw her kiss Riley and it received a lot of praise by the gamers so most people didn’t care about that, it’s just how they include it in this new game doesn’t add anything that is interesting to the story. This game contains way too many cut-scenes, some people were able to finish the game under 20 hours, I did it in 19 hours and about 10 hours of the game are cut-scenes, some of them are so long that it feels like you’re watching a movie. I would have like to receive more play-time than watch-time. The way they killed Joel is horrible writing. In the first game he is a guy that trust no one and it takes him almost a whole game to trust Ellie with who he did his whole journey and now in this second part he just blindly trusts some strangers, follow them and give them information about who he is. It’s very poorly written and for such an important character to die that way sucks because it doesn’t follow his mindset. It’s the biggest moment of the whole franchise that everybody was expecting and I don’t think anyone was expecting Joel to survive the whole game and it’s okay that he died, but the way he was kill is a complete disrespect for the fans of the first game. I didn’t really love any of the new characters, Dina was okay, but other than her I disliked everyone else especially Abby that we had to control for half the game which is a big downside because every time I played as her I didn’t want to play the game… I really hope that Neil Druckmann won’t destroy Uncharted the same way he did with Last of Us Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is a SJW’s wet dream. From the first minute you meet the character Abby it starts: they just label the closed captioning as “woman”, when “she” is clearly a man-trans or not. It continues to throw this ideology in the players face by forcing you to play as this character and hurt the characters you fell in love with from the first game. They kill Joel, a beloved character, after trying to prove HE was the villain the whole time. Then Ellie doesn’t even kill Abby when she finally catches her/him? You have got to be kidding me. This game is nothing more than a diatribe on the evils of straight white males. Even if that was their goal they could have made a good story to go along with it; but they butchered the first game and the 2nd by how bad it was. Terrible dialogue, hardcore sex scenes, forgettable new characters. I could go on and on. Do NOT buy this game and support this drivel. Buy another copy of Days Gone. That is a good game. Or replay the first Last of Us. Expand

This story about the vicious cycle of revenge may have been better told as an HBO miniseries. However, in a game where your character kills hundreds or thousands of people without batting an eyelash, the last second redemption which the whole story hinges on falls flat on its face and is one of the best examples of ludo-narrative dissonance you can point to in the history of game media. If you loved the first game and grew to really care about the characters you played as, be wary of playing part 2. Unlike in part 1 there's no levity or message of hope to carry you through the incredibly depressing and gruesomely violent journey that takes place in this game. On a technical level the game is outstanding, which is why I'm giving it a 3 and not a 0. Expand

This should have been the continuation of what could have been a great franchise with legacy characters. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Cannot believe I waited seven years for this and left YouTube for the past few months to avoid spoilers. I play games primarily for the story and what they did to Joel in particular made me want to stop playing. I had to put down the controller for an hour just to calm down. There was also the gratuitous sex scene. Why? Story is clearly trying to say revenge is "bad" so makes Ellie go on a long ass trek taking revenge only to stop at the one person she should have definitely killed. What the **** ND? Besides the story the graphics are amazing but the combat is janky and awkward with the dodge messing up more times than it's useful also the jump button could have been left out with minimal change to the game. Another thing is what is with the Neil Druckman self insert? Would have been a zero if it wasn't for the graphics. Thanks ND for making me waste my money. Never again. Expand

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
