How did it end up like this? I didn't think it was possible to go from 100 to 0 so quickly, but Naughty Dog did it. A complete 180 in storytelling and direction. Both games shall be remembered: The Last of Us as a testament to storytelling and setting, and The Last of Us Part II, how to butcher a legacy in record time.

This feels like a fever dream. How can this be real?

Absolutely gorgeous environments, Beautifully crafted visuals. Great voice acting.

Too bad the script and character development is a plot-hole ridden mess that ruins how pretty everything is. It's like dating the prettiest girl in school, and finding out she's dumb as a rock, really selfish, doesn't shower, and is kinda racist. Nah...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fans of the series waited 7 years for a follow-up to one of the greatest stories of gaming. Would the sequel develop on finding a cure? Exploring the roots of the virus? New adventures with both Joel and Ellie? F*** no.Let's kill a beloved MC for shock value, demand players to play a shallow character (joel saves her life and she just shotguns and golfs his head in) that no one gives two **** about,
plot the entire game on revenge after revenge and in the end force our character to do exactly what most players dont want.Plus there is so many plotholes through it all,and most character's are like "Hey it's me this is my story"(and one in particular just exists to justify a pregnency, then dies like a **** dog) and then we never see them again.

One thing, that i did like story-wise was the relationship of Ellie and Dina. It felt natural and believable.I enjoyed that. But it all falls apart on this mess of a story

Gameplay is awesome, but the story ruins it all.(After all it's a narrative story) Also, Sony false advertised JOEL in the trailers. JOEL appeared on many parts of the trailers pointing that there would be an adventure with the duo, but they fking replaced it with Jessee. Also the flashbacks of TLOU were altered to comply with this story.

A mess of a game. How low did naughty dog fell.

Worse that this **** game is the "critics". How dare they all give 100's on this mess?
I wouldn't accept the rumor that sony pays for reviews, but in this case...it's more than evident.

Pulls the classic mistake of going for shock value over actual intelligible substance. The last of us 1 was an absolute masterpiece. This one falls flat on its face in a hole in the ground 6 feet deep.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A pure dumpster fire, and an insult to the fans. Having seen what this "sequel" came to be makes me think that this practice should be illegal. This isn't a sequel. It might be a spin-off, it might be a fanfic, but it certainly isn't a sequel. It took the two main characters from the previous title, used their faces and names, yet stripped them of all of their traits, personality and characteristics, and for what? A typical "bittersweet" story? A "there's no good or bad, just different perspectives" ending? Social activism? Truly deplorable. The writer should be fired and be forced to forever be remembered as someone who attempted to rip people off, by promising to deliver a continuation to a story that was adored by many, and instead seizing the opportunity to virtue signal. A good game or movie begins and ends with a good story. TLOU was amazing in this regard.

Part 2 should continue that story, not destroy it just because they want to subvert expectations while pushing a personal political view over good story and logical writing. TLOU2 has some of the worst writing and plot choices that ultimately undo the first game.

    Horrible.

The best game of this generation, I especially loved the sound design during Abby's sex scene : the subtle sounds of Owen balls slamming against the muscular ass of Abby were recreated masterfully.

Let's not forget the animation department for their beautiful depiction of her women **** truly a breathtaking scene that I'll never forget !

Expand

The game tried to differentiate itself far too much from the first game, and in a very bad way, I found myself caring little to not at all for the stroy or its characters. While it's gameplay makes up for it, it's utter lack of story telling and believable world building is astonishingly atrocious

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Trying to extend the story of The Last of Us in a meaningful way was always going to be an uphill battle. What’s so frustrating about Part 2 is that the game seems to have all the pieces necessary to do just that. But those pieces end up getting lost as the game also tries to tell an entirely new story, one that tries to expand the Last of Us world into a generalized setting for an anthology of loosely connected stories. The end result never comes together in a satisfying way.

That doesn’t take away from the many enjoyable, memorable, and even emotional moments as Part 2’s barrels from promising start to messy conclusion. But it also serves as a marked comedown from the quiet, directed, self-contained confidence of the first game.

I don’t regret the time I spent back in the world of The Last of Us. But a big part of me was left wondering if its creators just should have left well enough alone.

Additionally, I try to stay out of politics because of how they divide people. This game has a lot of dialog and interactions that seem to be forcing a political opinion down the player's throat. It feels unnatural and compromises the experience. I might not end up finishing the game because I lost interest after playing throughout midnight and morning. As someone who values story over visuals and gameplay I was aphauled at the level of polish of the story vs the polish of everything else. The 2 points are only because I value the efforts of the devs and the detail they put into the game. The story is shocking for the sake of being shocking. Shame its not just a sequal, it's not the same characters so it's a solo game of pety revenge for me.

Beautiful. Great details. I do not expect lesser given it's reputation as a triple A title. In this day and age, other than WWE 2K, graphcs should be stunning.

    Gameply:
Moving mechanics remained the same with left/right strafing, right analog to control direction you are heading.
    Crafting is similar.
Dodging mechanic are welcome but mediocore at best. Just a series of quicktime events
There's a jump button, but it's basically useless. My grandma can jump better than the in-game charcter.

One reviewer claimed that it's the "Best Stealth game" of all time. (Laughs in Metal Gear). On the pH scale of 1-14, stealth is 14 cause it's very basic. Many times when I'm behind a cover and an enemy is approaching, I receive the prompt button before he's even close. Ellie pops and jumps a distance to grab the enemy for a stealth kill. This looks completely unrefined to me and is light years away from what other stealth game has achieve.

    Storyline:
Boy oh boy, what a mess. Politics aside, this game completely subvert your expectations. We understand Joel is not exactly a saint but ND seems determined on schooling us with "cycles of revenge" storyline. It's as cliche as it sounds and everything is done for shock value, edgy for the sake of being edgy.. The first few hours just renders everything the first game built useless. This is just plain unwise given that there's so much emotional attachment to the game charcters. Imagine having Arthur Morgan die in RDR2 and then you play as Micah Bell, how would you feel?

There's no way to root for the new protagonist at all.

Metacritic would probably filter out many "0" as review bombs, but if video game journalist can freely give 10/10 as they please, why can't us consumer?

It gets boring watching generic character dramas play out, and certain of these characters have been dumbed down from the last game as part of a frustratingly bad plot device. I won't comment on the LGBTQ aspect, it honestly didn't irritate me the way everything else did.

Certain moments are beautiful and the game looks pristine. But unfortunately it feels too dated and the story suffers from bad writing. Naughty Dog should have kept the first game as the only one. This was unnecessary.

Gameplay is not the worst, but it's very meh. And you can't play it for the story because it also sucks. The writers did an anal enema using sewer water and then emptied their rectums into sheets of paper found in landfill, and then used the diarrhea to both write the story and kill hunger.

Also, 90% of this game's budget went into bribing reviewers to give it a 10/10, I hear.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
