Amazing graphics, below sub Par story. I believe some critics have said it themselves the story is a fanfiction mess that destroys the legacy the first game left. Naughty Dog created a beautiful product but destroyed fans love for the series while doing so.

I feel I have to lend my voice to the community and strongly urge you to stay away from this game. It is not worth the $60 investment, especially in the current times we find ourselves in.

This is a below-average-quality zombie game masked with AAA graphics, familiar faces of much-beloved characters, and a number of unusually perfect reviews from notable critics. It may be painful to accept for diehard fans who have been waiting years for this title, but I must sadly say that in my experience, I have found that what you've probably heard is true: there is no soul behind the facade.

The gameplay mechanics have been marginally improved from the original game. I emphasize 'marginally'. They are still clumsy and ultimately not as well executed as rival titles. New mechanics such as the "jump" are functionally useless and often add nothing of any true value. It looks but does not feel like a videogame released in 2020. I admit the Last of Us shared the same issues as this sequel, yet it was able to get by with a very well executed and emotional character-driven story.

TLOU was short, sweet, simple, and powerful - towering above other games in the genre. This new entry in the series comes nowhere close and fundamentally fails at continuing the narrative in any meaningful way, ultimately creating a bland, inconsistent, frustrating, unrewarding, and pointlessly tragic story riding largely on shock value. At the end of the game I found that the message it chose to deliver fell totally flat and was not conveyed in any sort of logical way; those who embraced the Kindergarten-level philosophy that the plot tried to impose ended up suffering and losing the most.. What? It doesn't teach a lesson. It revels in throwing expectations to the wind and interjecting torture.

The narrative is also NOT what the promotional media implies. For those of you who simply must see this game for yourself or are considering picking it up for the $10 it's worth in a later PSN sale, I won't spoil it for you. But be aware of this: the promotional media is misleading with unrelated scenes stitched together and characters substituted with others to create the impression that the narrative is something it is not. I have never, ever felt cheated by a tactic like this before – usually I smile and think "wow, they got us!" – but I feel... betrayed.

If you love the unique characters and dynamic relationships of the original Last of Us, you will not enjoy this game. If you love the simple but powerful narrative that drove the original Last of Us, you will not enjoy this game.

This is a disappointing game designed by a company known to abuse their employees. It does not carry the magic of its predecessor. Buyers beware.

In the age of multiplayer games, TLOU2 was supposed to be the ultimate single-player experience that players have been anticipating ever since TLOU first came out, really. In the age of multiplayer games, TLOU2 was supposed to be the ultimate single-player experience that players have been anticipating ever since TLOU first came out, really. And it fails miserably, not only at providing that experience, but even at expanding gameplay, which should have been obvious after so many years of development.

I'll start with gameplay. Well, there's nothing revolutionary to witness. Most story-based games show similar mechanics. In its core, TLOU2 is quite fun - but it's nothing we haven't seen, nothing we haven't played and the challenge is really there. PS4 limitations are visible and where graphics are more than decent it's obvious that the game will come to PS5 in its full glory sometime later. Unfortunately most aspects like movement, physics, shooting are all surpassed even by GTA V, a game almost as old as the original TLOU.

Gameplay is definitely not the weak point of this game. It holds up okay and I doubt anyone expected more. However, here we can see the first sign of why the initial reviews were so undeserved.

    (spoilers ahead!)

Story is its own disaster. As most fans would tell you, the game does almost everything to stray as far away from expectations as possible. Is this deliberate? Maybe, who knows. Is it necessary? Absolutely not. I will not be going into details as I don't want to spoil and you can read it elsewhere, anyway. One thing I will say though: forcing the player to play for hours as the killer of many's favorite character of all time and then failing to give any sort of katharsis to the player, to other characters, only serves to make the experience as unpleasant and ultimately pointless as possible. Where I've been waiting for epic adventures and chalacter development, we've reseived GoT season 8 - like disappointment, deaths and no resolution to whatever the game started or hinted at.

The story really is a car wreck and I feel like I've wasted many hours that I should have put into something else.

Critic reviews are baffling to me. It's unbelievable how a game like that can score 100s so easily. There is absolutely zero material upon which it is based to give the game even a 90, although I can imagine someone's experience may be different to mine. But there's just not enough substance.

And you know what? For what I believe, it's really cool that the game involves LGBT characters. It's only painful that the way they have been introduced is so negative, that they are completely unlikable, but due to how prominent tat was, it will likely only serve to make the LGBT community more alienated than it already is. It's a real shame and the studio should fu*king apologize for that.

An absolute joke of a game. The deceptive trailers lead you to believe that Joel is more involved in the story than he actually is. It seems as though Naughty Dog has fully embraced the "woke" SJW agenda-pushing it onto players while in turn abandoning what made the first game truly great. The connection that WE as players felt towards Joel and Ellie.

The good: pretty graphics and solid VO. The bad: terrible what they did to the characters we know and love from the first. If it was an optional route, ala Mass Effect, then it would be fine. Forcing it down our throat doesn't fly and kills the emotional impact of doing bad things.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

After the first game being one of my favorites of all time, this game was the biggest letdown. The plot is awful and so tone deaf. Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then...
