But it is not really transmitting that emotion or anguish to me that the first one. Despite the fact that I am watching gameplays in both games: The first if I even liked what happened and the end if I And the end if it made me cry
This is exciting because of how they paint the game but it does not transmit more nor does it make you have empathy
    Lousy game

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a massive fan of the 1st game and someone who has already beaten this one. I feel the need to tell you not to buy this one. I was only spoiled the fact that Abby kills Joel so I was coming at most of the game with an open mind. So for the first 90% of the game which includes the Jackson, Seattle, and flashback portions of the game I was actually really enjoying it. I thought the combat encounters were great and the UI in the game was definitely improved from the first one. I even started to believe it might be one of my favorite games of all time. However, all that changed when I saw the ending. The fact that you let Abby off the hook and then go home to find Dina and JJ gone (which most of us probably saw coming) made me feel cheated. Then to go upstairs and get an awful cutscene with Joel where Ellie almost (keyword almost) forgives him for the events that took place at the end of the 1st game. I understand what naughty dog was going for with the scene but I just think they could’ve done it better. And it’s the rat king boss fight and the entire length of the game in total that makes me question whether I want to play it again or not. It took me roughly 20 hours to beat this game keep in mind that I wasn’t even trying to get all the collectibles, but it only takes the average gamer around 13 hours to get most if not all collectibles & upgrades in the first game while also completing the story (depending on difficulty and gaming experience). Usually I have no problem with a long game but when the ending just throws away the first 2 acts of a game it makes it feel totally pointless. And it irritates me that I waited 7 years for a big cliffhanger (if that’s what you would call it) for the next game (if they even make one) which will at minimum come out in probably another 7 years. So in summary don’t buy this game unless you want to be heartbroken that you won’t be able to see the rest of Ellie’s story for a long time. (Also if you don’t like kissing scenes don’t buy it, because there’s a lot of them). Expand

Funny that somehow, this is the most user reviewed game to date, despite the completion trophies on the ps4 showing that just over 10% of players have actually finished this game at present.
Too many people reviewing this game without even playing it, all because some leaked footage goes against their political views.

This is not just a bad game, it's a great example of how game developers and other entertainment corporations are trying to normalize the LGBT community, but they don't understand that they are doing the same thing as setting their favorite song as an alarm. being good but ended up being so horrible that you won't be able to listen in a long time. We understand that this community has to be normalized, but, without forcing it to normalize, one gets used to the passage of time, not ipso-facto. They killed a character in just two hours to simply force Ellie and Dina's relationship and also put a developer to have sex. The story is very forced and really disappointing. The third installment is usually supposed to be bad after a sequel already, but it didn't take long for them to ruin a saga. Do you want your equality? Here's your damn equality Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I got this game yesterday as a pre-ordered game from GameStop yesterday. I must say that the story is emotional and gloomy. It's emotional like story parts in a soap opera TV show. At the very beginning of the game once Joel tries to get Ellie's attention to sing her a song, it shows that he has love for her. The sound that Joel made creates emotions torwards the characters. The graphics are triple a based graphics with so far no frame dropping due to unbalanced character movement pacing. This game has combat for evasive combat for defensive just like sekiro has L1 to block attacks so to dodge is just effective as the offense in sekiro to show off your defensive attacks to enemies. Overall so far I'm enjoying this game as I ransack abandoned buildings in the snow for health cocktails like I loved doing in days gone. Great job Neil Druckmann and the entire Naughty Dog Cast. I think that this is with no doubts the best game that naughty dog made,i don't know how people says this is dissapointing and awful, did you play it? if you played it and think that this is a bad game, please, throw away your ps4 becaus i think that you don't understand nothing about videogames.
Returning on the title. I think that the game is perfect, naughty dog made a really god job. I'm not talking about graphics because that is like from another planet (awesome), i'm talking about the story, the characters. The last of us Part 2 gives us an incredible story, i admit that the ending gave me a little bit of heart break, i would have preferred an alternative ending, but that's still good.
the characters are made in such a beautiful way, i lived the last of us 2 with dual feelings about Ellie and Abby, but as much as i hated Abby, the game wouldn't have been the same without her. People who says "i wanted to play with Joel" Okay then go play the last of us 1. i'll end my review about this masterpiece saying that naughty dog couldn't do a better job than this, because this is the best.

Even more so the first game continually gave you something to look forward to but this game never had any such thing: it was just one murder spree to the next as opposed to the first game where you were trying to cure the world. I just don't know what the writers were thinking. If this game was a standalone, I'd give it like a 4/10 but because it ruins a prior known excellent series, you have to score it a zero. I say this as someone who absolutely loved the first game. It just felt like they tried way to hard to be "woke" and did things for shock value. Expand

I can't believe that I waited many years to see a continuation and in the beginning they kill the most beloved character in the game. and without giving a story behind the characters. Many will protect this game beacus of the production values, the graphics, face animations. They are good as much as you cant expect from a triple A title, but how far will it take you in a game where all the characters are empty and blend to the point where you feel like none of this matters to you anymore. This event is the perfect presentaion of an author in crisis, all the negative reviews will represent that.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Firstly, there are a few good points within the game, as to why I didn't rate it below a 4. Here is a list with some details.

    -Game mechanics.

Since the last game was released, the mechanics of the game have improved drastically. I find it much more easier to aim, craft or even throw a brick/bottle. The jumping and climbing manoeuvres were quite simplistic also. The only thing I can add to that (which is a negative, but because its only small I will include it in the positives) is that the dodging mechanic (L1) is strangely difficult. I found myself continuously receiving damage even though I was dodging perfectly to an upcoming attack. Something that should have been used as the circle button mechanic and not the running button.

    -Animation

Not only have the facial animation during cutscenes and the gameplay animation improved since the last game, but also the way the environment moves around you. I felt fully indulged within the environment, almost like I was there throughout the entire gameplay. The lighting really brought the dark, dim and bright moments to life.

Those were my only good points. The past seven years they have spent on making this game was wholesomely based on those points, and not the story. Here are my bad points.

-Not because Joel died, but HOW he was brutally murdered.

As Joel was the main character in the first game, I felt saddened by the way they killed him. The way Manny spat on his beaten up corpse really pissed me off. I can understand if Abby herself killed Joel in her own way, without other people forcing him to struggle free of their grasp, but I just found it....well, dirty. She couldn't even come up with a well made plan on how to commit the act. It was just pure luck that she ran into him.

-Making Ellie look like the villain

Ellie throughout the entire game is of course, on a rough road heading straight for revenge. Willing to do anything, and kill just about anyone that gets in her way. But throughout this path, she makes some decisions that make us question who she really is as a person. We can all say the worst thing she did was murder Mel, who was pregnant at the time. None of us could see that she was pregnant, even Ellie was shocked at the murder that she committed. She isn't a BAD person. She made some quick moment decisions which were taken out of her hands, and if the tables were turned, we would all do the exact same thing. (Nice try, Naughty Dog)

-Trying to make us feel Sympathy for Abby

During the play-through of Abby, different events occur which try to make us think that she isn't the bad person we all think she may be. She may in fact be a caring person, but that doesn't mean she can't be a horrible one either. It makes us look at past events from her point of view, especially when her father died, and we can all obviously see why she did what she did to Joel. But that doesn't take away the fact that she killed him. Joel, who was the protagonist of the first game, the character we all came to love, murdered. Because of the acts he had to commit, in order to save his loved ones life. I quite frankly didn't care that Abby's father died and I will never come to like her character for what she did.

-Back and fourth revenge/the story ending.

This story was nothing more than a 'look, this is what revenge does to you. Revenge is bad, DON'T DO IT' and I feel like the past 7 years should have been concentrating more on the story-line and not the mechanics of the game. We didn't need a story on revenge, we've seen it. we've played it. And i'm sure at one point in all our lives, we have had some kind of revenge too. We didn't need a video gaming explaining what specific actions can do to the human mind. Which brings me to the ending. Ellie at the start of Seattle (Just after the events of Seattle day three) spent all that time on tracking Abby. Killing absolutely anything (I'm sorry Alice) and anyone just to make it possible. After being horrifically beaten to a pulp by Abby, she moves from Jackson with Dina and her son. Spending months on end just dwelling on Joel's death. Even having PTSD moments. So at the end, when she had Abby in her grasp, she sets her free. For what reason? Did she forgive her for what she had done? Was this whole game for nothing? Me, as the player, who desperately wanted nothing more than revenge for Joel, couldn't even get that. From start, to finish, the endgame was pointless. It was a means to an end. Where does this take the third installment for the game (that's even if they bother now) with such a pointless cliffhanger?

My 3 star rating is for the game mechanics. The last star is merely for the story-line. What a disappointment. I expected better for 7 years of hard work.

No one has ever done something like that for a video game story so it would be an original design decision. That way, people who like this version can still enjoy it, but for people who want an actual story can play the real version. Both versions would be debated upon, but the decision to redo this game entirely with a new story would make me forget about and forgive the mistakes made in this version. I know that this won't happen because the Niel Druckmann fell to one of the oldest stumbling blocks in history which would be pride. He directed a masterpiece and the praise got to his head. Instead of looking at what the fans loved about the first game, he did his own thing, confident that he was smarter than everyone else, and ended up destroying his own masterpiece. It's not the first time that a leader has fallen to pride and it certainly won't be the last time. If Niel Druckmann and the team completely redid the game with an actual story, it would be one of the quintessential comebacks of our time. It would surprise everyone and would earn the respect of every gamer who felt betrayed by this version. As it stands though, this game is completely unplayable.

This could be the greatest game ever made, and I'd still despise it because of the crunch development. That's what's p***ing me off the most about this game, the fact that a horrible, abusive practice went into making it and game journos are letting the man responsible get away with it with no consequences because he's hiding behind progressivism and using it as a defense for his actions. I never would've bought this game, it just never appealed to me, but I'll gladly drag it through the mud for normalizing crunch.
