Terrible game, terrible story, terrible developers. The fact that all the "critics" are giving this game a 10/10 simply to stay in Sony's good favour is disgusting and misleading the player base. Save your money, watch a stream of the game if you are interested. Vote with your wallet.

Naughty Dog horribly messed up this game, and adding on the way that they horribly handled the leaks by filing false & downright illegal copyright claims on anybody they could, this game is just a massive failure and let down. Had the writers at Naughty Dog had a bit more common sense and had they actually used sound story design techniques rather than using some cliche revenge story which has been done a hundred times over, this game would have been in contention for one of the best video games of all time. All that being said the gameplay is what you’d expect from TLOU. I’m not sure what all these “professional critics” were talking about when they said that Naughty Dog had “evolved the gameplay from the first game” as it’s almost a carbon copy from the 2013 original. Many hours of the game can be summed up as a “walking simulator” where the game simply tells you to follow someone or tells you to go from point A to point B constantly with no real gameplay. This honestly could have been better as a movie rather than a game. That being said, the graphics are stunning and the visuals and atmosphere are downright gorgeous. The game is well optimized and runs smoothly with minimal bugs and glitches. The game does a good job of putting you into the world and making you feel like you’re really in the game. Sadly I can’t give this game a high or even average rating. TLOU2 hinges heavily on having a good story to make up for the lackluster and extremely linear gameplay. However it’s really hard for a game in 2020 to be considered good or even great with dated gameplay that almost completely mimics it’s 2013 predecessor, when the whole story, is just one massive, uninteresting revenge story. Had this game had a far more compelling storyline with good character development and at least decent characters, it could have been at least a “good” game. Expand

What a horrible game. They had such a great story to work with but completely ruined anything to do with this game. Visual/Sound looks stunning but whoever created the story needs to be fired.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I personally enjoyed the first half of the game, the parts where you play as Eliie. However when the game kept pushing you to feel for this person (Abby) after she killed joel because he killed an extra in the last game I started to lose any passion for the game. However I see why Naughty Dog did it, they wanted to make The Last Of Us Part II enjoyable for people who didn't play the last game, However I believe if they had focused on us (the fans of the original) they would feel less pressured to kill the greatest video game character ever in the first 2-3 hours. I am however frustrated that the game ended with Eliie taking the moral high-ground after killing hundreds of people, killing a pregnant woman and brutal torturing Nora. The whole game Ellie vows to avenge Joel and in the last 10 minuets she changes her mind, this feels like a Cop out and sloppy story writing to me. However I believe the reason for this is Sony wants another Last of us and therefor naughty dog need to leave the game as open as possible (This is mainly shown by the fact we now know there are fireflies out there). Although I do not believe it lives up to my expectations and or live up to the first one, I can not sit here and say The Last Of Us Part II was not an extraordinary because it was, the graphics are impeccable, the gameplay is the best from any video game I've ever played, the acting was of the charts and of course the Story was very good even for naughty dogs standards. (To show that the story was good just think of how you would react if you played The Last Of Us Part II without knowing about Part I, you can not tell me or anyone that you would have enjoyed it, the only reason i gave negative thoughts in this review is because it does not live up to Part I for that reason I rate the game an 8/10. However if Part II was released as a standalone and did not have the expectations we had it could have easily been a 10/10. I should also say I do genuinely believe this game is Game of the year and will be talked about for years, I also expect there will be one more game (to finish the trilogy that's my opinion anyway.) Highly atmospheric and incredibly detailed. The storytelling is impeccably done through utterly outstanding voice acting and mocap. The combat is frenetic, with different strategies applicable to human vs infected enemies. This game is a masterpiece.

The new characters are unlikeable and bad written, the main story is generic and have lots of plot holes. The last thing to say is about the gameplay, which is the same but polished, but in 2020 is dated and to this day many other games had made a better shooting or stealth gameplay like GEARS 5.

Not worth the money, i really struggled to make to the end and i'm not willing to play it again. Looking forward to sell my copy to anyone who wants to buy it.

Though at times it feels as if the game is trying to tell a more emotional story with important themes, while leaning too much on gratuitous violence (while understandable for the setting) as if it hasn't grown up too much since 2013.
None the less, this is a game that doesn't pull it's punches and Naughty Dog have delivered another cinematic adventure, it's definitely an experience that as a fan of video games I'd say is worth playing.

People hating on it for the themes of identity and sexual preference discussed was sadly way too easy to see coming and my advice is they need to get over themselves and maybe reflect inward.
Stop rating 0/10 for the sake of it, which then causes people to rate 10/10 to counter it, just skewing the ratings even more -_-

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Even though I found the first game a little overrated, i still loved it and was hyped for the sequel, but oh I am so disappointed.

    PROS:

Visually stunning- some of the character models look a little weird and unrealistic but apart from that this game looks so good.

Level design and art direction- I actually think this is one thing the sequel does better than the first.

Acting- Can't complain, acting is great.

    CONS:

Story- As many have pointed out, the story is appalling (one of the worst in video game history) it just feels like a insult to fans of the original and a big part of the game forces you to play a horrible character.

Gameplay- gameplay isn't bad but it's just so...meh, like a lot of Naughty Dog games it feels a little clunky and dated at times.

Ending- probably the worst ending in video game history, made the entire game pointless. Killing Abby would've at least made the game somewhat fine but Ellie keeping her alive made no sense. Ellie kills many innocent people but spares Abby? Makes no sense.

Characters- Didn't like either old or new characters. Despite being the main character of the first game Joel hardly does anything and acts out of character. Ellie too acts out of character. Abby is so unlikeable yet the games tries so hard to make you like her and I don't want to be forced to like this vile villain. Lev is also a character they fore you to like but he is just not interesting. Jesse's only purpose was to get Dina pregnant and Dina herself is so bland and I just didn't see chemistry between her and Ellie.

Pacing- Like Uncharted 4 this game outstays it's welcome, it realy drags on. It's about 25-30 hours but should've been about 18-20, we didn't need the long Abby sequences.

Tone- The game tries so hard to come across as "edgy" and "thought provoking" but it just comes across as narcissistic. Also, it feels like they just added OTT violence scenes for shock value, it forces you to kill dogs and pregnant woman to try and act edgy but it just comes across as misery porn.

Joel's death- I'm fine with Joel dying (let's face it we all knew he was going to die) I just hate how it happens, it happens in the first 2 hours of the game and after all he's been through he gets killed by a golf club?!

So that's my review of TLOU2, such a letdown.

I beat the game. What i have to say is that this is a game that can be only appreciated and fully understood if you play it open-minded. The game does not have morals and concepts of what is right or wrong, on what is bad or good. It's actually really hard trying to explain it and you can only feel by playing it, seriously.

    .
About SJW stuff people are saying, i really didn't notice anything, really. Me and ALL of my friends who played it thought everything to be perfectly fit within its universe and anything felt forced at all. Ellie and Dina relationship felt so natural as her with Riley, and the polemical Mysterious Woman is not a transsexual (not even Gay) like everybody is saying and her ripped body is actually explained within its context. Seriously, i really don't know how can people find this to be "SJW festival" when the entire game is all about violence and killing people, literally. There's not ONE SINGLE line of dialog or face expressions where female characters feel superior or more empowered than male in this game or the contrary, seriously. Not one single thing. The characters kills black men, black women, white women, white men, they kills everybody, It's equally balanced and i can't understand why people are so upset about this.

But why you have to play it open-minded then? Well, as i said, there are no right or wrong morals here. *No one is a hero and this is a hard and sad world to live in for EVERYONE* (this phrase is very important). Well, basically the game tries to make you understand every side of the story. Characters motivations, Why they did what they did, Their human side, Their empathy capacity on bad/good people and thats it. So people got a misconception of the game thinking this would be a lovely revenge story (yeah, lovely revenge) about Right beating Wrong in a heroic and epic way like every other single game in the market, and they got their mind closed on it. So when they realized what the game is about - a harshly violent, MOSTLY SAD / DEPRESSIVE story with no morals of right and wrong, bad or good where NOBODY is safe and no one is a hero - Oooooooooh boy, you can understand the hate, seriously, if you're reading this and you bad-rated the game because of its story, i can understand you. The game will not satisfy everyone.

If you identified more of yourself within the love story from the first game and want to play Part II, don't. Stay in the first game. If you do it, you MUST play tihs willing to understand every side of the coin here and have a minimum ammount of empathy for everyone, including people you *think* are the bad ones. hence the open-minded thing i'm talking about.

I give it a 8 because i feel like there could be more of it, you know? They could push everything much harder to cause more impact, because i sadly didn't feel much empathy about its characters as i wanted to. I cried in the end, yeah. But not because of the depressive ending or anything, but because i wasn't able to feel it, and i know the potential is there even though i can't find it. But i'm willing to try it again.

But it doesnt come without a cost, unfortunately the reveal trailer was a let down since it was false advertisement on Joel's behalf, feel betrayed by it , and a huge letdown , by the plot itself if it was introduced in maybe a different way , its amazing , i liked the ending ,it showed supperiority, after all Joel's Killer was not that different herself from Joel. its a review on the 5th note cause the game is the peak of what a ps4 game could ever hope to achieve. #JusticeForJoel

But last 4 hours when they Abby fights with Ellie and we play as Ellie. I literalty say outloud WTF! Why? Why? Why devs want me to play as Abby against Ellie? And after the boss fights end she let us go? Why she did that? We killed her boyfriend. Joel killed her father. She has all the motives that she could kill Ellie as she did Joel. But anyway she let us go. it is a huge gap. Then Ellie all of a sudden times jump after 1.5 year. She settled down with Dina and baby. But why??? She killed your father figure in front of you. No human being is not react or passed it away. They will hold a grunge until the rest of their lives. I honestly get excited after Tommy showed up and ignite the fire inside of her. But that ending boss fight and we let her live. WHY! I hate the last 4 hours. Huge gaps. Why she travel about 4-5 months to get Abby then she let her go. Before the last battle starts. she see joel's death face as memory. then she start fight after 2 minutes. JUST 2 minutes... She was about the drowned her but She remember the Joel playing as guitar. Then she let her go! Why she has done that. Where is the motive in that. I asked why. Neil and Halley (West World Writer) are okey with that part. The last 4 hour why did you messed up your charcters build up. There are huge huge gaps. I will never ever play this game again. Because even though you think that you did a very good job in the game. You just messed up it totaly. You promised us a ''Revenge'' story She didnt get her revenge from Abby!! And last fight Abby was her weak state and we attacked her with knife. And you devs are want to feel sorry for Abby! NO WAY! You sir and madam! You are not aware that how writing should be consistent and how chracters should be behaved in their motives. IF you want to do realistic story telling. Then focus the motives of the chracters. 20 hours they were consistent and that 4 hours was whole bunge of mess! Expand
