I did my damndest. I tried so hard to give this game a fair chance, I heard the horrible rumors and I wrote them off as fake leaks to get people talking about the game. I went so far as to defend it in forums online before I played this absolute trash. In hindsight, I should have known better. It's The Last of Us part 2, it doesn't need fake controversy, The Last of Us was just that good. Ellie doesn't act like Ellie anymore, shes some cartoonish depiction of a dark, brooding, tumblr teen now, her love interest could be replaced with an overly flirtatious 2x4 and the plot wouldnt be affected at all, the leaks were right about Joel, and nothing about the story is redeeming of any of this. I dont know why this always happens, professional reviewers praise the game as the second coming of Jesus riding on a Buddha, while the fans take massive runny dumps all over it, but its gotta stop. Full disclosure, I made an account today for the sole purpose of reviewing this one game, not because I'm a troll or a bot, but because I feel legitimately guilty that some poor loser out there might have seen my defense of this dumpster fire in a forum or in a YouTube comment section and might have been persuaded to give the game a shot. Well I'm fixing that today. I'm going back and following up on all of my comments warning people to stay away from this garbage. There is no retribution for the sins I've committed, but maybe I can right that wrong just a little bit like this.
The more intricate level designs, parkour, rope puzzles, and enemy additions in the form of dogs, and the Scars were kind of cool, I guess, and they do help get your mind of the trash plot for a moment or two, so it's not a straight 0, but TLoU wasn't well known and universally loved for its gameplay, it was loved for its relatable characters, realistic development, and compelling storytelling. Take that away and evidently your left with nothing but trash.
Again, I feel legitimately embarrassed for defending this game. They should have just done a prequel about Joel, or Tess, or Marlene, or Tommy, or Bill, or literally anything else, Christ you've got a built in 20 year gap at the beginning of the first game! You should have let the audience decide what the future holds and explore the past that's already set in stone. The series should have chronologically ended with that last powerful moment. "Okay."

Overall, a solid sequel that lives up to the quality of the first game. Brutal, punishing combat and out-of-this-world action sequences. Story falls a bit flat compared to the first game, but isn’t bad. A few bugs that impacted my enjoyment of the game, but nothing game breaking.

The other type are people disgusted with the graphic violence and depressing tone of the game, who I guess expected Nathan Drake to drop from the sky and give everyone ice cream. They're both wrong.

At the end of the day, this game is A LOT like the first one, with a lot less board carrying, ladder moving, and garbage dumpster placing and a lot more exploration, world/character building and combat tactics.

Its probably the most beautiful game ever made, and it's probably the first game I've where the slow walking speed that's usually forced in games feels appropriate; the world is just THAT dense with detail. I found myself literally slowing down just because it felt right taking the world in at that contemplative speed.

The story, is brutal. Period. In fact its miserable. If you like drama like Requiem for a Dream, you'll be right at home, but I understand why this game is too much for some people. It's realistic and it's unrelenting. LoU2 is mostly a revenge anti-fantasy and the game's story ends up being a lot about the price we pay a person hates.

Game play is a lot of the same but more dynamic with less stupid puzzles to keep you stuck in small areas. Its a wider world and you have a lot more freedom to explore which has been my favorite part. The game probably changes characters and skips around in time a bit for me, BUT these instances more than justified themselves in the story and happen less frequently later on.

But it's okay, it gave such an emotional motivation to the plot. But then, going to the outcome, looks like the game wants to teach you a moral lesson, like almost every game nowadays, and nothing is solved at the end. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

However Naughty Dog has only gone and destroyed its legacy with this dumpster fire of a game. Don't get me wrong, this game has definitely lived up to the visuals and physics I was expecting of the second iteration of The Last of Us. Though these are important, the story of this new game is horrible. The fact they killed off one of gaming's favourite characters as if he was a side note or a character with no personality. Due to this, the game felt more like a lackluster cliché revenge flick. I am highly disappointed by this title. Naughty Dog messed up badly and they definitely need to fire the entire writing team for taking the outstanding concept of The Last of Us and turning it into nothing more than a psuedo-emotional wreck.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So I’ve never written a review but I figured I should considering how big of an impact this game series has had on me. I’ll preface by saying I’ve basically memorized the first one, absolutely loved it and it’s been my top favorite game for the entire seven year wait for the sequel. I felt connected to that game, and I was emotionally invested in all of the characters. Naturally when this was announced several years back I was heavily excited. But on to the actual review As I’ve literally just finished the game. SPOILERS! I’ll start with the negatives: I understand why Joel was killed in the fashion that he was, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that I liked how it happened and especially didn’t like that it happened pretty much right from the start. But if you’re going to build a game around a revenge journey, what better way to do that than to mercilessly murder a truly loved character. I wish that act would’ve waited a couple more hours in the game and I would’ve liked some more Ellie and Joel time not in flashbacks. My next negative is that I honestly felt like this game was pushed and lead on that we’d be focusing on Ellie, yet here we are spending half of the game playing as Abby and going through her story. I honestly got frustrated because I just wanted to play as Ellie and continue her story and journey. But after playing as Abby for a while, I realized what the developers were doing with this game, which is basically showing us the other side of our actions and that the actions we make, both in the past (Joel killing her father in cold blood) and present (Ellie killing her friends in the aquarium) will eventually have consequences. It’s a dark world that they live in, and everyone is just trying to get to tomorrow. Though I will admit, it was neat how they told all of the events from Ellie’s point of view, and then all of the events from Abby’s point of view. It helped show me that there’s more to this world, even though I was really only wanting Ellie’s revenge story. And lastly, Kinda wish that she didn’t let Abby live but that’s just my opinion. Now on to the positives: despite the negatives that I have with the game, which really isn’t many even though they’re quite large, I still thoroughly enjoyed the game. I enjoyed the smarter AI with the enemies both infected and non-infected. The added challenge was nice and a major improvement on the first. Also, combat and environmental movements felt a lot like Uncharted 4 to me which was odd at first but I grew to really like it eventually because working my way through this world was really enjoyable. Also, as someone who regularly plays on PC with uncapped frame rates at first I struggled but honestly even though the game is locked at 30FPS, it really didn’t seem like it too much. Graphically the game is gorgeous and I think they did a great job on it even if my PlayStation wanted to take off from the fan kicking on so high. But I think the most important positive above all of the others is that this game, even with it being different than what I expected and wanted, still made me extremely emotional and reminded me as to why I loved Ellie and Joel so much. I hate that he’s gone, but I love that he lives on through Ellie and that she’ll go on in life carrying him with her and impacting those based on how he helped raise her. In summation, I wish there were some different things in this game, but it’s still a good one nonetheless. It’s still a good story, still emotional and powerful but in a different way than the first. I give it a solid 8/10. One last note however, typically I find that a lot of games and movies fall short when they try to incorporate females or those who are gay or minorities in to lead roles because they tend to focus on the role being a strong FEMALE/GAY character instead of a STRONG female/gay character. The character is garbage and not engaging if they’re not a strong character regardless as to their sex, race etc... And contrary to the popular belief from many reviews I’ve read, I don’t necessarily agree with most of them because I think they got it right with Ellie and Abby. Both of their characters put the plot and story first, they’re both strong characters, and the fact that they’re female/gay isn’t the centerpiece of the story. Expand

    Gameplay and graphics: 10/10
    Story: 5/10

From the technical aspect I believe this is one of the best PlayStation exclusives I've seen. From the graphics to the controls and level design, this game was strongly satisfying and for that I do believe it gets a 10/10. Now when it comes to the story, this game is a mixed bag. I do want to start by acknowledging that this story would very well serve as a plot for a movie or show as it analyzes from different perspectives, very strong emotions we as humans experience: loss, anger and pain. Now with that said, the story as good as it might does not entirely work for me with this franchise . I believe this comes from the fact that many... many fans just expected the game to take a different route. Ever since the previous installment, some fans begged Naughty Dog for a sequel as means to continue the ever evolving relationship between Ellie and Joel and based on the misleading trailers it looked like we were going to get it. Instead we were treated with a harsh realisation as during the first couple of hours the latter dies in a way that was very upsetting for anyone who loved the character. Throughout the entire game as you survive the streets of Seattle as Ellie, you keep hoping that he magically reappears wishing that he somehow survived his injuries. He does appear later in the game in the form of flashbacks and without a doubt those to me where the best parts of the game. These playable flashbacks serve as connecting tissue, explaining what happened in the 4 years in between each game, however; I can confidently say that they are way too short and do not do the characters any justice. In the game you do explore Ellie's relationship with Dina (her girlfriend) and Jesse (friend) but unlike with Joel it only takes a couple hours for you to feel that her relationship with them cannot evolve any further. Halfway through the game you are abruptly taken from Ellie's perspective and into Abby's perspective (antagonist). You can clearly see that it is an attempt to make the player empathize with the antagonist, to show that she is actually a good person and that she did what she had to do... That did not really work. I do have to admit that the best levels of the game are played through Abby's eyes and ultimately were the most fun for me. With that said, at no point was I able to take off the back of my mind that she was the one responsible for Joel's death. Although I could see that she had a noble goal throughout the game, I couldn't stop believing that everything horrible that occurred to her was deserved. At times I would even purposely let her character fall off a cliff and get swarmed by clickers just to be able to say "you deserve that **** However, her relationship with a young boy named Lev later in game did make me feel familiar emotions as it resembled that of Ellie and Joel but even with that I hoped for Ellie to end Abby by the end. The ending of this game was a bit of a letdown as it did not provide in my opinion a good nor satisfying closure to most of the plots in the story. The beginning of this story leaves our beloved Ellie hurt and broken and by the end of it we see that she remains that way both emotionally and literally. Naughty Dog effectively conveys the same emotional toll for the player as you also feel emotionally broken once you finish, that however does not mean it is a good thing as it also makes me not wish for another installment. I do believe the game was good overall but I think I would have preferred this as the third installment with the second taking place in the 4 years in between with both Ellie and Joel. In the end, The Last of Us part 2 makes a great game that people should definitely experience but the story somewhat disappoints.

Take it with a grain of salt and PLEASE play the game first before finalizing your opinion on the game. Also, please don’t base your opinions on my opinions, I’m only human after all. Anywho,

The way the world and story hook you from beginning to end is exhilarating! It literally made me feel like I was living, breathing, and killing inside the world of The Last Of Us. The story, although surprising and completely unexpected, has left me in awe. It truly leaves an impression. The new characters that we are introduced to add an extra level of depth to Joel & Ellie’s relationship and how that relationship is affected by the world they currently find themselves in, that really make you appreciate them ever the more. It is truly a masterpiece. The gameplay has left me constantly wanting more yet feeling guilty and with remorse for my enemies. It was an overwhelming yet satisfying fight for survival around every corner. You are doing yourself a disservice by not experiencing the feelings and emotions that this game can provide. It is truly Naughty Dogs best take at the 3rd person shooter style of gameplay since, well since Crash Bandicoot. Take that as you will. Overall, The Last Of Us Part 2 has met and even surpassed my expectations. Although I did experience a few minor graphical pop ins and the friendly AI did get in my way once or twice, it just wasn’t enough to dampen the immersion and the experiences I was having with the game. I highly recommend this game to anyone who was a fan of how raw and real the first game was. You will definitely fall in love with this one immediately & amazingly enough, it will make you fall in love with the first game even more than before.

The Last Of Us Part 2 gets a 10/10.
