    This game destroys what made the original's story so compelling - the relationship between Ellie and Joel. Their complex relationship was the true main character, and there is nothing in this game that compares remotely.

    The entire story is an utterly unoriginal revenge trope, and the story-telling is bland, unstructured and void of complexity which, in fact, can also be applied to its central characters. Nothing makes the player feel motivated to 'get revenge' as the entire reason players enjoyed the first game is destroyed in the beginning. What is the point of getting revenge if the developers remove the reason you picked the game up in the first place?

    It is nice to see LGBT characters central to the plot and their relationship doesn't feel overly forced, but their writing is so banal you don't even want to try caring about their protection. They go off on long, uninteresting conversations as if the writers are trying to make the writing and their backstories feel real, but it just comes off us predictable and bothersome.

    There is really nothing interesting gameplay wise that this game does better than any of its contemporaries; you walk into a new area and know exactly where the next firefight will take place after you reach the next cutscene.
    This is pretty much the underlying disappointment of this game - it is entirely predictable in every aspect.

    They say the game is being review-bombed for its inclusion of LGBT content and 'ugly' central antagonist, but may I suggest that it may be getting review bombed by the professional gaming industry with positive reviews because they WANT and NEED it to succeed.

    This is a complete failure in story-telling, character development, the thematic ties to its setting, originality and ultimately being a successor to one of the most beloved games of the 21st century.

    This was one of the most unsatisfactory, and least fun video games I have played in my entire life.

    It was as if in star wars, Han Solo's millennium falcon just wouldn't start and luke accidentally lost his lightsaber. It was extremely depressing, and had no resolution to that depression. There were pointless sex scenes which added nothing, NOTHING, to the story, and there was such    This was one of the most unsatisfactory, and least fun video games I have played in my entire life.

    This game is slap in the face to all the true fans of the first game. I am not sure why the story had to be this crappy. If one of the most loved protagonists had to die, ND could've given them "better", more heroic death, possibly at the end of the game.     The gameplay is ok, but not so much of improvement over the first game. The scenery and graphics are great. The story is crap and games like this should be all about the good story.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Imagine you have a favorite movie. A movie about a beautiful relationship being formed between Two people. Who grow from strangers to family in a masterfully written tale. Who would sacrifice anything for each other’s safety and well-being.

    Now imagine that after 7 years you are given a sequel to that movie. You imagine the wonderful adventures these two will go on, and how much it will mean to you, especially now that the relationship is already formed. And you excitedly go sit down to watch the sequel, and as soon as you hit play, a strange jacked up woman beats the main character to death with a golf club and then the rest of the movie is about her love life.

    That is literally this game.

    The story is so forced that there are times I had to pause the game and think of the motivations of the character because I couldn’t comprehend what the reasons were for doing what they were doing. Making me feel that I was missing something..... but I wasn’t.

    On top of that this game took inclusivity, which is by its nature a great thing, and cranked it up to 400,000% to the point that I wasn’t sure if I was watching something progressive or regressive. When my team is made up of a female bodybuilder, a physically handicapped woman, a transgender man, a lesbian couple, an interracial couple, a Jewish woman, many various minorities, and a pregnant woman... and at the same time the two strongest white male leads (who were the heroes of the first installment) have their IQs dropped to 15 so the writers can have them walk into the most obvious trap ever; I’m left questioning if what I’m watching is actually progressive, or borderline condescending.

    I feel betrayed, and it is very sad because the actual gameplay is rather fun... the graphics are amazing... and It’s being built on the foundation of the story of one of the best games of all time. The ingredients are there for this to succeed tremendously. But it doesn’t. The character you play as is so insanely unlikable that there are moments where you are rooting for the people you’re being asked to kill to kill you. As that would make you feel better. This game puts you in a position where you will set your controller down and say. “I don’t want to do this, I just want to have fun, why are you making me do this?”    … Expand

    Naugthy Dog tiene muy buenos trabajadores, que han hecho sin dudar alguna, un trabajazo de 10. Tristemente, les toco tener como directo a Neil Druckman, una lastima.
    Por lo menos creo que no se han cagado en la magia del primero y eso es suficiente para mi. Creo que el juego solo por su historia se merece un 10.. pero negativo xd.

    I registered an account in Metacritic just to leave this review. I can't believe I waited 6 years and avoided all spoilers to play this game. Other than visual improvement, the story itself is bad from beginning to end. Game is disturbing and tedious. Pace is slow and lengthy. Not worth the time and money. AVOID AT ALL COST.

    The game plot and the scenes of a pathetic re 4 cheap copy that looks similar.
    Maybe this is what it felt like wasting my time playing a game about oh god i cant even spell the word

    Never in a million years I thought I would be writing this review. I was insanely excited for this game , finished within 3 days - 30 hours. Utterly disappointed with the story arc and character development. Misleading trailers , half game is you know what. Please don’t make a third. In reality, mainstream reviewers are being paid to give it good reviews and / or are being threatened with blacklisting for talking about how bad it is. Look at any large Youtuber or third-party entity who has no direct connection to the industry, and the reviews are identical.This game isn't getting review bombed. It's getting honest feedback on how gut-wrenchingly abominable it is. In reality, mainstream reviewers are being paid to give it good reviews and / or are being threatened with blacklisting for talking about how bad it is. Look at any large Youtuber or third-party entity who has no direct connection to the industry, and the reviews are identical. AngryJoe, Pewdiepie, Tyler1, all rate the game at 1/10 or below.

    Why is the game being rated so low? Well, for one very glaring reason that has nothing to do with homophobia. Plenty of games feature gay / non-binary characters, but everyone accepts them because they are amazing - like in Apex Legends.

    The utter hate for this game has to do with the fact that in the first two hours, they take half of what made the first game salable - Joel, and brutally murder him. Then, a few hours later, they make you play as the person who murdered him, and they try to get you to sympathize with her actions. Then, the top it all off, at the very end, after playing as Ellie and killing hundreds of people - you don't kill the person who killed your father in the end. Only a psychotic would find this story acceptable or not morally repugnant.

    This is probably going to ruin Naughty Dog, but Neil Druckmann and co. are so arrogant as to think that people not liking their game is either due to homophobia or "bots." The reality is that the market will dictate their fate. The company might go bankrupt as a result of this horrible treatment of one of their only franchises, as well as their treatment of fans. Naughty Dog games never had enough depth to warrant high sales rates other than likable / salable characters. Without their characters, their games are boring, linear, and critically lacking in depth. They just killed their best one and then had you play as their killer. They'll probably murder Nathan Drake yet, if they get to even make Unchartered 5. I doubt they would.    … Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
