One of the, if not THE best game I've ever played. I didn't expect much after the first one...I thought "no way they could do better...none". I was wrong.

    Please enjoy.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My problem with TLoU Part 2 is story (I know... weird), but most of characters. This game just feels like a new season for call of duty warzone, even Ellie can be compared to a protagonist of call of duty, she does nothing else then shootin tootin. Story is a total mess because of this all flashbacks, the world presented in TLoU 2 doesn't fit to the world from TLoU 1. Graphics and audio are good. but what bothers me the most is that the music from the first part just works very well in some scenes, but in the second part, there is no music in such scenes, there is only this sound similar to a grenade explosion next to you. I just don't want to play this game, not because the director said so, but because this game is like a circus compared to the first part. And the scene of the death of one of the characters at the beginning of the game (Joel) can be compared to the death of this character if a brick fell on his head at the construction site. Expand

The story is just **** up. Killing Joel like this.. he’s the main character of the first part lol and never supposed to die. Even if so, NOT LIKE THIS and not in the beginning of the story. Neil made all the characters SO STUPID omg. Waste of money

Gameplay is not anything new or groundbreaking despite the focus on details. The story is very generic and not necessarily compelling to have you connect with the cast of characters like in Last of us part 1. The lack of choices for your actions is something lacking in modern gaming where you can combine a great story along with having your choices feel impactful.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game takes the two main characters from the first game and absolutely destroys them. The game turns Joel into a villain and Ellie into a really unlikable character. It feels like the only character they tried to make interesting and likable is Abby and I absolutely hated her with all of my being. The game really shoves this character down your throat after she brutally murders Joel. They also dumb the characters down for the sake of the story which doesn’t make much sense. And these are just the problems with the story I haven’t even spoken about the pacing. I could go on for days about how much I truly dislike this game. The only silver lining is the fun gameplay which is largely unchanged from the first game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I feel absolutely screwed by naughty dog. Let me start by saying the gameplay, graphics, general feel of the game is amazing. Where this game goes downhill for me is the writing. Let me be clear, if have developed a strong connection to joel and ellie, dont risk playing this game. Early on in the game joel is killed by abby. And after that, all we want is to kill these evil chick and her friends. It seems to be going that way until about 20 hours in. All the sudden you pick up with playing as abby again. Not knowing that your time with ellie is basically over. They try to get you to see things from abbys point of view, which is where they screwed up big time. The real fans of this game are here to play as ellie. Not abby, the **** who killed and tortured joel. There could always be another side to a character. Why would they even think about ruining our connection with ellie by trying to show things from your nemesis POV. At one point you actually beat the hell out of ellie. I felt compelled to let ellie kill me as abby about 10 times before I actually finished beating her(ellie!!) Like would you ever see that done in uncharted? I think not. So anyway you eventually get a bit more time with ellie, only to have a very underwhelming ending. Its a video game, how did naughty dog think this story path was the most intriguing is beyond me. We've seen by the first 'last of us' that they can make a very emotional game with a positivish ending. I'm not saying a game where ellie and all her friends live and get that much wanted revenge, but maybe one where we play as ellie for the game and not half as ellie and half as the girl we want to kill. Just feels like a GIANT slap in the face. And the people that say the game is in a post apocalyptic world. Not everything is gonna work out. Well those ppl obviously aren't attached to the characters. There is a reason these reviews are so low. I was literally hating on these people giving low scores....until I finished the game..... Or the gate that won't stay open on it's own so you have to find a big thing to hold it open or ask your friend? And my personal favorite: Ellie holding a gun to someone and having an opportunity to pull the trigger but somehow she loses her upper hand and the situation goes to **** It's so repetitive at this point and feels like they ran out of ideas. Story can be considered a little contraversial, but it has an impact and emotional debt at every step. And it is evident that developers cared about the characters from the original game because there are excellent set pieces, very emotional dedicated to them. Every encounter and development of the story is very tense and it makes the players think. Exploring Seattle is just pure joy. The fungi narrative has taken a backseat, clickers are easily disposed of now...in the first game I’m constantly running empty on shivs. And one of the best protagonist ever in gaming went out in one of the worst ways. I don’t want to play as Abby...my opinion! I skimmed through those parts as if I was doing a speedrun, what’s worse is i have to level up again midway through the game? Sheesh!! I don't ever post game reviews, but after the cathartic experience of finishing this game, and finding out it was review bombed (of course it was), I had to post my thoughts.

This is a story about forgiveness, how hard and downright impossible it can sometimes be, and what that does to the human soul. Structurally, it wasn't working for me fully at first, but by the end it won me over and almost had me in tears. If you're expecting a linear experience like the first game, this is going to be jarring at first.

But of course, that is not the criticism this game is receiving.

Here is a tentpole sequel that had the gumption to feature - with no fanfare - a cast of ethnically diverse women, a lesbian couple, a trans child, and a synagogue.

I think the notion that any of this is "forced" or "distracts from the narrative" is a good litmus test for who is still mired in the patriarchy and who is not.

In the first game - with a story genuinely on par with Children of Men - you play as and grow to empathize with a man named Joel. He then makes irredeemable choices in the name of love and loyalty for his surrogate daughter, Ellie. This dissonance is supposed to make the player uncomfortable. That's what makes the story memorable. Joel murders innocent people, robs Ellie of her agency, and gaslights her.

What I didn't realize is that many fans of the game completely aligned with Joel's choices. There is no moral ambiguity, no internal conflict with their inherent complicity as the player - they believe all his decisions are righteous.

I only learned people felt this way once The Last Of Us II met "Last Jedi" level outrage that - god forbid - there are consequences for those actions. "Controversy," uninitiated bystanders would call it.

The comparison to The Last Jedi is at once fair and flawed. The Last Jedi seemed to consciously highlight women and diversity and was met with much hatred and bigotry. However, unlike The Last Of Us II, The Last Jedi failed (or chose not to) honor the story that came before. It insisted that sort-of-wrong characters like Laura Dern's were squarely in the right, and assassinated the previously likable characters of Poe and Finn, who promised to be very different people in The Force Awakens.

In The Last Of Us II, the characters make decisions that make sense for them, and the game passes no judgment on whether those decisions are right or wrong.

Most importantly, the theme of the game seems to be empathy. The game forces you to play as characters on both sides of a conflict, which is a truly uncomfortable experience. The discomfort is the point.

This seems to be lost on a minority of very loud people. They thought that an influential piece of art condoned their toxic masculinity when it was actually trying to caution against it. The second game lays that bare, in what must seem like an absolute betrayal to them. But the writing didn't change - they just wildly misinterpreted the material.

It's not a coincidence that the first target of their backlash is the game's bolstered representation. Critics of this will insist that they're not any "ist" or "phobic," but that this was not the time or place. Maybe they forget that the first game featured a scene in a church, a gay man, and 3 secondary black characters. Or maybe they'll say that those were limited enough to not "distract" from the story; as if representation and the story were ever at odds.

By all means, we should voice dissatisfaction when a piece of media tokenizes a character or acts self-congratulatory about doing so (re: Le Fou in live-action "Beauty and the Beast"). I personally hate when content feels pandering or preachy (re: live-action "Aladdin," I think I'm sensing a theme here). But The Last Of Us II does not do that. It's depicting life, which happens to contain women, Jews, LGBTQ people, and Asians (among others.) So if seeing a piece of media that does not affirm their distorted worldview causes these (presumably) white (definitely) men distress, I feel genuinely bad for them - they're victims of the patriarchy too.

It is essentially two games in one with both sides collided a few times. I give it a 7 because its not without flaws. I came across several bugs, albeit minor ones (with one that I needed to reload to fix). The game runs a little long and could stand to be trimmed down a bit and it starts getting formulaic by having nearly every goal be some kind of landmark you're headed to. And finally the story does not conclude in a satisfying way. It doesn't make much sense and there's no time spent justifying it. Random characters conversation, the soldier that talks in the background but you have to stop what are you doing and listen, the small talks while you are doing puzzles and looting houses that some streamer just cut out because it' was looting and not the main plot t I think the most important reason that the game it's so negatively received its how players are attached to the first game and can not move on. It would be lying to say the story is absolutely perfect and not cliché. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Yes, I have played and fully completed the game before rendering my opinion of it. Overall TLOU2 was emotionally gut-wrenching in a great way. The emotional impacts it had when it had them were amazing and what I have come to expect from Naughty Dog. The graphics, character animations, environments, and gameplay are all amazing! The level of care and detail that they gave to seemingly the smallest things is really amazing. The level of interaction with the environments, the kill animations, all great. Small details like when under a vehicle you shoot on your side and craft on your side instead of just floating the camera like so many other games do. There are too many to list. I very much enjoyed it. I know alot of people have had issues with the story. I have too do toa degree, but not for the standard reasons from what I've heard. I am not upset about how or when Joel died. His death was not a shock. I assumed he would die in this game before any leaks every came out. It had to happen. I get it, I'm fine with it. From the begining I was hooked with the story. The presentation. The darkness of tone and emotion. The death of Joel impacted me and it was some of the biggest feels of the game. I was all onboard with Ellie's revenge plot and totally in untill the second half. When the narrative shifted to Abby (as I assumed it would) I expected a good amount of gameplay but not half of the game. This choice to do this really derailed the momentum of the game for me. I understand what effect they were going for. Seeing the counterpoint to your actions, humanizing the people you've killed, and seeing what Abby has done and will loose due to her actions; like Ellie. The story has them both as morally ambiguous protagonists. But I just didn't care as much as I did for Ellie. This had nothing to do with her having killed Joel - I just never felt connected to Abby or her agency. I felt like this section of the game dragged. At least until the end. The ending was brutal and amazing. Truly depressing and sad. And it was great. I don't care that she let Abby live. I think that was a good moment. But I would have wanted a bit more development around that. Loosing her fingers and Dina in the end. What a gut punch. The number of times I have teared up or cried from this game is a testament to it's strengths, the amazing world, writing and actors in it. I felt it in the first game and it's even more so in this one; these games are post-apocalyptic westerns. This game in particular is essentially an old Western revenge story like that of Unforgiven. It's gritty and dark and depressing and real in so many ways. It really is great and I love the world. I just wish that second half was structured differently for pace and effect. Overall it's a truly great game. But I feel it had the potential to be utterly amazing. But do take I to mind that normally in almost any other game ever - I would not be so critical of these things. It's only because the first game was so good and that this game too is that good, that when aspects of this game don't fully land that it upsetting. I would personally give it an 8/10. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The first chunk of the game seems to be leading to a story that we expect from Naughty Dogs, however, after the first major plot development the story tanks. Most of the characters especially Abby who are introduced have so much time wasted on them, but I never grew to care no matter how hard I tried. They were attempting to craft a story about the consequences of revenge, but it lacked any sort of interesting points, It could be summarized by two words "revenge bad" basically it was a cliche that ruined the experience. Of course, the game looked beautiful and the gameplay was interesting. They developed and expanded well on the systems set up in the first game. Without the crap story and writing, but rather a story of the caliber expected of the series, This game could have been a 10/10. I madly love the first part, I went through it more than 10 times, but it does not give the emotions that the sequel gives.
Naughty dogs really managed to make not just a sequel, but a full continuation of this magnificent story.
The story is truly unique - Constantly overwhelming emotions replacing each other, you literally drown in them, it empties you, this is not just a game, it is a separate art form. An important factor is that the game does not divide the characters and their actions into good and bad, it shows the motivation and desire of each of the characters, and it is insanely cool and realistic. This has not happened in video games yet.
Naughty dogs managed to magnificently optimize their creation for a generation of consoles that are already living out their last days, and how this game looks on this hardware is just fantastic, it is impossible to count how many great screenshots I took during this game.

Now to the points that could push you away from the purchase:
LGBT: is present in a small amount that does not affect this magnificent story.
Leaked materials: For the most part, they do not meet the truth, and even if you stumble upon spoilers, this game will still not leave you indifferent and will take away all your emotions.

The game really lives up to its age rating, if you are not ready for serious topics and violence, then this game is not for you.

They wanted to show us that revenge never does any good by making us sympathize with the antagonist of the game but that never happened with me. I never liked Abby throughout the game because she killed such a beloved character.
