The story is also weak when you consider the new characters are unlikeable jerks and the old characters might as well be new characters as their decisions are those of characters that I do not recognize. It's obvious there was a narrative that Neil Druckmann wanted to tell about revenge and violence being bad that he insisted we needed for the millionth time. He clearly didn't care about arriving to any events organically and the story is then as subtle as a Nicolas Cage performance. Expand

So, the game makes you feel bad in the first 2 hours, it makes you wanna put it down, but as you keep and getting to know the reasons why the characters do what they do, you start to empathise with them, it's just so human, and so well made, the voice acting is top, animations are top, graphics are top, gameplay is crazy good, is terrifying, is heart breaking, its just so sad but at the same time so good. I wish that you by reading this, even if you hate the game, try and give it a chance and give it a couple of days to thing about everything that happened.. The best media that i have ever encountered. Nothing gets better than this.. Expand

Let me guess, all the hate toward game of thrones season 8 was because of angry right wingers too? Use your brain and don’t buy this game. Or do, but don’t blame the bad reviews on review bombers. Nobody had to play the game in order to hate it. The game was already leaked months prior and the leaks are confirmed in the first 1+ of the game.

While the game attempts to amaze you with it's beautiful graphics, the gameplay remains unevolved from the original. However the story, the main driving force behind this game is incredibly flawed and has thrown out the quality that the prequel had established. Original characters were handled in a disrespectful manner, and had their personalities altered to fit a narrative the developer tried to pursue and failed. The game is absolutely NOT fun. I recommend that you instead play the Last of Us Remastered and forget this game.

The mainstream critics are so detached for reality it is not even funny. If you hate the game you are slandered as a hateful bigot and anytype of "phobe" or "ist". The actions that ND, Sony, and the critics have done will be felt in the industry for years.

Don't worry, we the gaming community will remember and we will not forget.

First off Joel dying was infuriating but I could look past it if they did something astonishing with the story however its truly the worst revenge story in the world. Elli never actually gets her revenge. I truly was hoping this would be as amazing of a game as the first was, but all I received was at best a super disappointing fan fiction from some one who could not write Expand

The first game was wonderful, I get what Naughty Dog was trying to do with P2. But in my opinion, they disappointed a lot of old fans who truly cared about the first game. My girlfriend who had not seen anything of the original story, liked the narrative.

1+ for graphis(just 1 because after Ucharted 4 it was expected)
1+ for an Incredible soundTrack, just amazing!!
-2 for killing joe after like 2/3h in the game, F*** Off
    -2 for another 13h of pure sh*t
I don't wanna play half of the game with Abby f*ck her, she's the goddamn antagonist
I just didn't get the ending, where do we stand for Ellie, Dina and her son, Emocionally, Location??

Look this isn't the perfect sequel, this isn't what i wanted really.

Terribly written game with bad pacing throughout. It is obvious of its intent to be controversial and brutal without any reason or sensical explanation. Only good for the graphical spectacle, but that doesnt warrant a full rrp price. Pick it up when its in the bargain bin after a couple of months. Dont buy as you will only promote the making of garbage games.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My biggest letdown in a long while.

Lets play nearly 10 hours as a new main character that murders the characters you actually care about. But don't worry, we'll fill those 10 hours with awful character development from about 10 other new side characters in an attempt to make you sympathize with her.

    Too bad it doesn't work.

Not only that, they ruined Ellie as well.

They also bait and switched us in the trailers.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part 1 had a great story and I was super excited to play Part 2. This excitement turns out to be almost for nothing. The story is not at all what I was expecting, and has so many flaws and problems that it almost ruins the game.

Now for the good. The visuals are outstanding. There is so much detail in the game that it looks like next-gen graphics. Also, the gameplay is very smooth and is almost cinematic-like which really brings the player into the game. I would like to see some different animations (especially when executing zombies) but that is almost nitpicking. Overall the artists did a great job and pretty much carried the game.

Now for the bad (Spoiler alert)

Killing Joel that soon into the game makes zero sense. Now saying that sure Joel probably should die at some point however after saving Abby it would be hard I think for a rational person to beat someone's head in after they saved your life, and brought you back to your group. I feel like it would have made sense if they made maybe another game before this one which the story was exclusively about Abby up to the point in which Joel killed her father. That way we have a direct motive. I feel that them trying to justify Abbys actions by explaining why she did it was useless especially when we had an entire game dedicated to Joel and Ellie the two characters that the fans fell in love with. This major flaw kind of spurred the rest of the game to just seem erratic and depressing (kind of like GOT season 8) .

The reason why I gave the game such a low rating is because if I am reading the book. The book itself the binding, the pages, the ink, the cover, the artwork could be perfect. However, if the story in that book is bad it does not matter how good those other things are I am going to stop reading it. That is the best way I can describe why I rated this game so low.

I hope that they decide that this game is not canon to the actual story because I would love to see a part 3. However, if they decide to keep this story as canon I'd rather not. Even if they decided to go back in time when Jole and Ellie were still together I think that it's too late now to do that since in the future the story just falls apart and the game makes no sense.

Naughty Dog had a license to print money with part 1 and just tore it up in part 2.

Overall the story tanked this game.

Despite the largely negative reception this game has gathered I was very impressed. While it may not be as fantastic as its predecessor it certainly is a great way to cap the ps4. From what I was able to gather many of the negative reviews stem from peoples distate for some of the more controversial elements of the game. But as a whole I enjoyed the hell out of tlou2

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
