This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So disappointed in the choices made by the developers. I loved the first game and have spent so long waiting for this to come along. The graphics were beautiful, the gameplay took everything I loved about the original and tweaked it, but the narrative decisions were heartbreaking in the worst way. It felt like watching the final season of Game of Thrones again. Someone who loved the original game as much as I do must have raised their voice during the development process to tell them they were going down a path that their loyal fans most likely wouldn't want to go.

Much has been made of the diversity of the game, and Liberal political subtext. Despite some mediums diversifying to the point of being unrealistic, in this case it didn't really bother me. What bothered me most is that the makers thought they could somehow enlighten the player on the issues of violence and prejudice when most people have come back to escape and be absorbed into a story that can be an emotional roller-coaster, but not one you want to get off of.

The hardest thing to accept was Joels' relationship with Ellie after what they had been through, his relegation to a background character who makes evidently very poor decisions for a man so worldly wise, and his horrific death at the hands of a small group of people after having despatched hundreds of different enemies during the previous game. Joel is actually spat on while dying in a pool of blood, Ellie crying and pleading for his life - why would you do this to your fans who've waited so long to be reunited with these characters, and why later on make us play again as the killer only to have Ellie let her live after spending the whole game seeking revenge?

It brought back thoughts of the Walking Dead/Negan story arc and we all know what that did for that show......

Naughty Dog, I think it was a conceited mistake to assume this game would be accepted based on the amount of work put in, how technically good it is and how greatly anticipated it was - the narrative didn't further the original story, it threw it away.

I am glad I still have the original to go back to, and genuinely sorry that the sequel storyline ended up as it has....

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I played this going in without seeing any of the leaks.. Unfortunately for most they weren't. It's insane I finished this game 4 days ago and I still feel depressed and cry when I think about the end of the game. Its sad to see so many people hating on this game because its not what they wanted the new story to be. Sure there's some problems but for me it didn't take me out of the game or change my opinion. I've never cried for a game let alone this much in my life and I legit couldn't stop at the end with her last conversation with Joel, I've never felt that way in my life. It's insane how a game can do that. One thing I can't stop thinking about is Abby n Lev. When she thought she finally found the fireflies. She had hope, and then it all goes to **** and they're stuck in that hell hole for months, I can't imagine what they did to them in that time. To see her so transformed and broken was horrible to see even though I hated her for what she did. I didn't want either of them to die. To have Ellie essentially save her and spare her in the end breaks the cycle of endless death and violence. Which is what the message of this game is. Expand

Incredible game with unparalleled gameplay, and an incredibly moving story and characters. Everything I was hoping for and so much more. The Collector's Edition came in impressive packaging, and the Ellie statue was as detailed and beautiful as it was heavy. I didn't expect that kind of quality for the price.

Amazing experience! The gameplay is on a new level, they kept the good old form and added some new mechanics. The animations are mindblowing, facial expressions never was more realistic than now. And the story... oh my god, this is the first game that made me cry. Absolutely the best game I've ever played. Thank you Naughty Dog!

It’s stunning. It’s important. And it’s a deeply well-told story to the point where I genuinely cannot fathom why anyone who has fully beaten the game, not just heard the spoilers, not just watched a streamer snark their way through it or watched ripped YouTube cutscenes, doesn’t appreciate what it has achieved here.

Primero me gustaria decir que the last of us 1 es mi favorito y the last of us part II lo estuve esperando un largo tiempo.

Some people may genuinely dislike the ending, personally I thought the entire game was incredible, from start to finish, and ND made me like someone that I initially hated. Perspective changes a lot of things, and seeing both sides of the story was incredible.

I think some people are blindly hating on this game because it didn't suit their idea of what this game would be. This game is not Joel and Ellie happy adventures part 2. This game is realistic for the world that it is set in, a brutal and broken world that is all about survival, and what it does to the people that live in it.

It's been awhile since I finished a game and blankly stared at the rolling credits, this is that game and it's well worth playing.

Even tho I was truly disappointed with Ellie's decision by not killing Abby, I think this game is a masterpiece and I noticed all the improvement by the very first scene of the game, the incredible human expressions, the animations, especially the one where you can pick up a rope, the gun upgrades animation, and a lot more, the animals, the combat, oh the combat, the enemies so realistic human esssence it's incredible, It even makes you feel bad by killing them, how the dog cries when you kill its owner, just everything in this game it's exactly what I've been waiting for 7 years. I love The Last Of Us, It's my favourite videogame and I've played the first game in every difficulty mode, and I waited with extra hype all of this years for this game, I had extra high expectations, I can say I love this game and it's worth every single year of wait and every single dollar I paid for it. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I don't expect to really gain much through posting a user review of TLOU2 on here, but that's not really the point. I just wanted an outlet to post how I personally felt playing through this game. So, a few years back (2016) I picked up TLOA 1 for the first time and I couldn't put it down. I was completely immersed in the characters, the scenery, and the plot. I would go to class and think about this game. I was so absorbed by a video game that I would daydream about the next big event in the game during exams.... I'm surprised I even did that well during that semester. Anyways, what I'm saying is that I believe that the first game was indeed a masterpiece. I played through it twice back to back simply because I couldn't get enough! Fast forward to this year. Luckily my work keeps me busy and I don't usually search for updates on a game that comes out. I was spared from the leaks and spoilers throughout my journey in TLOA2. In fact, I had no idea there was such a negative backing on this game until after I beat it! Whoever is reading this is probably thinking "how the hell did you not see or read any of the thousands of negative reviews?" well... I'm really good at staying away from reviews I guess. I think that I understand why a lot of people are angry or upset, I mean the old main character died! Joel was a character you bonded with. You grew to relate to his feelings in TLOA, and his emotions became your own. It was so easy to become attached to such a beloved character. Yes, killing him promotes awful feelings and the ending of TLOA2 might have you thinking that it's all for naught. Ellie, who lost so many people due to the gripping effects of rage and revenge, chose to spare Abby. **** I mean I was certainly filled with mixed emotions about the end. I wanted closure! I wanted to avenge Joel's death! However, as I listened to the music and I saw Ellie play that last song with missing fingers... The flashbacks to Joel and her last conversation (well second to last. The last was just her pleading and begging him to get up before losing his brains to the she hulk and a golf club) made me think that the whole point wasn't to bring the player closure. This is some serious **** that real human beings experience. Ellie was so devasted by Joel's death that she was suffering PTSD. Holy **** Killing Abby won't make Joel come back. Revenge just brings on more revenge. Revenge feels so good at first... But it just brings out the worst in a person. I've had my own feelings of revenge, I mean I've never wanted to kill someone because of that feeling, but I think the premise is the same. I felt awful going through with it because even though the other person probably deserved what they got, was it really right for me to bring someone misery based on my emotions? Probably not.

TLOA2 brings forth some serious questions and issues about how people process revenge and anger. This game isn't just a story about a post apocalyptic world, it's a story about showing some real emotional trauma that people go through in their lives. It's exaggerated of course. This game sent me on an emotional roller coaster from start to finish. The writing was great, the characters were well developed. Every death felt like an impact or a shock. It's like you knew it was coming but you didn't know how or when. That really puts you in a suspenseful mindset, or at least it did for me. I thoroughly enjoyed this game. Yeah I was sad that Joel died, but I'm not angry. I think it's dumb to be angry at a developer for making a decision in their work. What's the point of being mad? I'm very grateful to live in a time where a video game can create such an amazing experience for me. I grew to love and feel for the characters in TLOA2. Yes, even Abby had some of my sympathy. She lost her father, a hero who would have potentially found the cure to a 2 decade long apocalyptic disease.,for what reason? Joel wanted to value one person's life over humanity's future. So yeah, I understood her side. If someone killed my mom of dad, I'm sure I'd want to bring them to justice. Even if justice was through my own hands.... I'm only human. My heart would race when a difficult situation would arise, whether it be two main characters finally confronting or one of the main characters fighting for their lives against hulking enemies or infected. There was a lot of investment that naturally developed as I progressed through the game. I personally am very happy that I played the game. I actually popped open my copy of TLOA part 1 and began playing it from the beginning again. I've never had the incentive to revisit a game like I have with the TLOA series. This, I guess, is more of an explanation of my personal experience with this game and not so much a cold hard review. I enjoyed it immensely! As someone who avoided all the hype, spoilers, and leaks, I can say that this game was truly amazing. Playing through it blind was the absolute best way to play.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Being a naughty dog fan and loving the first last of us it breaks my heart to be making this review.

I've been waiting for this game for about 6 years now ever since I played first game in 2014 and I couldn't wait. The gameplay/graphics/mechanics was amazing. I was really immersed into the game and the new mechanics and the animations and everything was beautiful. It was easy to appreciate all the effort put into the details, scenery, cutscenes and the like, But when it comes to the story man.. At first, the story was doing fine but the part where you play as Abby, I just dreaded it and was so bored. It just didn't give me the same feeling I had in the first one. I just wanted to get over the Abby part and get to Ellie's already, basically hurrying up the looting and the like. I really hated Abby and honestly don't get how people sympathize with her and like her character, like I get where she's coming from, Joel killed her father, but then having to play her character for 10 **** hours and just pretend like she's not bad and sympathize with her. Let's not forget the fact that she has sex with a guy who has a girlfriend who's pregnant like wtf she's obviously cold-hearted and has no remorse on what she did and does. I at least tried to sympathize with Abby but nope it didn't work one bit. The first one was focused on Joel and Ellie's relationship and I loved the character development in the game, how Ellie would make lighthearted jokes during serious moments and stuff like that. But in the second one, however, it just disappoints you. The characters just don't feel the same anymore as the character development is not there. I understand that they killed Joel off and it didn't really stop me from playing, but obviously I was still very sad and bummed out by the fact that Joel dies, but the way naughty dog executed it is what made me dislike his death scene. The story is just infuriating and doesn't really make sense. The whole goal and point of the story, in the beginning, was to get revenge from Abby for killing Joel. You go through this really long journey and in the process, you lose some people like Jesse and more. Then you finally decide to back off and just live a normal life with your new family (Dina, and the baby), but then all of a sudden you decide to leave your family behind to kill Abby, but doing so will mean leaving Dina and JJ (the baby) behind. So skip to when you finally get caught up to Abby, instead of killing her you have a fight and it leads to her biting two of your fingers off, then you get the upper hand and almost drown her but decide not to because of a short flashback scene you remember. So now you let her go and go back to the house. Which is so stupid because she's basically back to square one where Abby's not dead, but Ellie gets the sad ending where she loses her family, her fingers, and Joel. Like WTF, it's so disappointing.

I was really looking forward to playing and was genuinely excited, but the story will just get you annoyed and get you stressed. It doesn't feel the same as the first game and suggest you just watch it instead of playing because trust me it will give you a hard time mentally and emotionally. Especially if you're someone who loved the first last of us, this will ruin it for you.

The story was alright I'd give the game overall a 9/10 but I gave it a 10 to deviate from all the loser bashing the game that have never even played the first or just jumping on the bandwagon of hating it. I waited 7 years for this game, played it the day it came out... and the part 2 was NOT as good as the PART 1, I never believed it'd top the first one. THE FIRST GAME WAS TOO GOOD. THE ONLY THING THEY CAN TOP IS THE GAMEPLAY NOT THE STORY. You guys are just a bunch of morons. It makes me think how many Xbox fanboys just jumped on this game and rated it a 0. I'm not sure what they were thinking but this isn't it. There was only one part I actually enjoyed and it was the museum flashback. The gameplay is pretty good and so is the setting. This isn't what I was looking for though, I wanted a good story and this did not deliver. It seems like all the big gaming magazines and companies gave it a great review and it makes me wonder if we even played the same game.

One of my main complaints is that the first game had so much character development and this one had none. Most of what happened in this game was a flashback and it jumped around so much you have to really pay attention. It also seems like they try to force you to like a character in the game and it just doesn't work.

Google and Amazon seem to be blocking reviews. It was a bad game, let the gamers review it. I bought the game and have completed it and my reviews are still being taken down or blocked.

To summarize, I would ignore Part 2 and just enjoy the first game. I thought I wanted Part 2 but after seeing what they created, for the first time in my life, I wish it didn't exist. If there is one thing I wish I could forget, it is this game. This game was so terrible I do not recognize this as an actual sequel to the masterpiece that was the original. As South Park would say this was an "f you, you'll buy it" product.

The arrangement of the story is absolutely a disaster.

It is absolutely breathtaking and is a great addition to the cannon of this universe. It just barely misses the mark of the first game, but it is fantastic nonetheless. The only thing I dislike about this game is its pacing around Ellie's Day 1 and Abby's Days 1-3. However, the fantastic story all but makes up for it. Most cut scenes are great. *All* of Joel's stuff is astounding. Along with this, the opening and closing few scenes of the game took my breath away. Not to mention the impeccable graphics, gameplay, acting, etc. A lot of people don't like many of the new characters, but I liked most of them, except for Owen a little.

TL;DR: A masterpiece that barely misses out on a ten because of the pacing.

In fact, this character is the only story element that is universally beloved. One of many examples that should tell you how broken this game's story is. Not just bad - broken.

I have never seen such incredible technical achievements so utterly squandered in a game.

The game's presentation is undoubtedly 10/10. It is one of the best looking games ever created. The gameplay can be fun but in my opinion does start to get old in a 30 hour game. At times it felt like a bit of a slog and I did find myself bored from time to time. Still, your mileage may vary and that is nowhere near bad enough to be damning. There are also a selection of brief but fantastic setpieces peppered throughout the game. That's the good.

In most other games, a bad story would not sink a game - but this is a Last of Us game, the sequel to one of the most highly praised game stories in history. The story of this game was marketed front and centre. It is the beating heart of the experience. Despite this, I never thought it would be possible for a story to ruin a game so utterly, thinking if it's OK to play, it's OK to play. And yet, here we are!

The dreadfully inept storytelling affects so much, from whether you care about the characters to the order in which sequences play out. It cannot be separated from the experience, it is embedded. The story is told as you play through the game - this is not a simple matter of playing through and skipping the cutscenes. That won't work.

The story is so broken, so miserable, so full of characters you end up not caring about, so irredeemably bleak while doing nothing to justify that bleakness, so determined to resort to transparent emotional parlour tricks to make you feel something - anything, so po-faced, contrived and nonsensical, it manages to destroy an entire franchise. Not a game - a franchise! People the world over were looking forward to this game. If Naughty Dog dare release a third game, it will not be met with anywhere near such universal anticipation.

I cannot speak for everyone of course, but by the time the game finally showed mercy and decided to end, all interest I had for any characters new or existing was completely obliterated. The eight deadly words are in full effect here - I don't care what happens to these people. If you know your wrestling, Last of Us Part 2 is the gaming embodiment of X-Pac heat.

The dismal failure that is this game's attempt at a story cannot be done justice here. There is so much to unpack that to truly explain the cavernous and profound depths of its failure would require a video review of an hour or more. In time, I imagine there will be many. The intention of this game is to leave you feeling miserable and you will - but not in the way the writers intended.

It is a black hole of joy, a disconsolate abomination of a story experience that will oppressively crush any positivity you once held as if impending doom were a physical thing, a sickeningly thick smog of hopelessness that takes hold and will not let go. It chokes the spirit. It does nothing to make all this worthwhile.

History will not be kind to this game, many who purchase it won't be either. Buyer beware.
But hey, it looks really nice. Credit to everyone who worked on this game, bar the writers/directors!

I even share the same political thinking as creator Neil Druckmann, but honestly, that wasn't the game to do that, or it wasn't right to do that with these characters specifically. They could have done another story, It would be more right. The entire legacy built by part 1 has been completely destroyed. I don't know if I will be able to play the first game again, knowing that all of this happened in part 2. anyway, it is with a lot of pain in my heart that I give 3. The technical part is excellent, but 70% ~ 80% is the narrative, and she is horrible.

Congratulations Neil Druckmann, managed to destroy his own history, destroyed the legacy of his first game. I have no right to say how it should be, nor do I have any idea which part 2 would be the perfect ideal for me. But I have the right to criticize, not least because I spent 300, 00R $ in a pandemic to be able to play this long awaited game, and it was very disappointing. You deserve the criticism you are receiving.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
