The story destroyed this game. I’m sad beyond belief. The Graphic is top notch and the same with the gameplay, but the story....... Waited so long and now they bring us this? Just so sad. The second part of the game when you play as “the other” character was just so bad that you just wanted to rush trough that whole thing. So sad.

Fantastic graphics as expected. But graphics can only get you so far especially when the story you are telling is so nonsensical. You tend to alienate a good majority of your audience. Why kill off the most beloved character 2-3 hours into the game with absolutely no pay off on the revenge side of things? Little to no interaction between Joel and Ellie besides flashbacks and the golfing scene? I hope your are satisfied, Naughty Dog. Sure, you are going to break sales records with this game and make a crap ton of money. I guarantee going forward your audience is going to be extremely hesitant to pour their hard earned dollars into any sort of media produced by you.... Expand

I enjoyed every aspect of The Last of Us Part 2.
Gameplay and graphics are top notch, Naughty Dog at peak performance. The story is a brutal and unforgiving journey, splintering the relationships and people we meet and the people we loved from Part 1. After finishing Part 1, I did not need a Part 2. After finishing Part 2, I desperately want a Part 3.

The gameplay is fun, the graphics are currently second to none, and all the sound is done very well. As for the story, I understand it is divisive, but congratulations to Naughty Dog for sticking with their idea and go through with. Part 2 does not dishonour its characters or the story of the first game. On the contrary, it is an heartbreaking and beautiful sequel to a game that didn’t need one. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Waited years and years for this game to come out and they said itll be about revenge? Abby killed Joel, she got her revenge but what about ellie? She lost 2 fingers and it seems like she cant play guitar anymore, one of the things that joel taught her and probably the most thing that will remind her of joel, dina left ellie and now shes all alone and whats even more worse is abby gets to live after all this? Why kill one of the main characters and talk about how this game is about revenge when ellie didnt even kill the one who killed joel? Its so stupid, this is nowhere near the TLOU1, neil cockmann f us all, made us wait for all these years just to get a messed up story.
Im giving this game 1 point just for the graphics, everything else is crap

This game has one of the most beautiful scenario that i ever see, bringing back all of the tension that i felt when i played the first game.
Unfortunately, the story that seems promising at the beginning, get confuse at the middle and end up in a unsatisfactory way. Character development is really poor, didn't have the emotional connection that we had with Ellie and Joel.

Being a huge fan of the first game I would say this game would have a lot to live up to. Graphics wise it’s one of the most real looking games of all times. Also in the game trailers it has a lot of false advertising regarding the main characters. The story is one that makes zero sense and feels like a feminist wet dream. Not only is the reason one of the main characters die ridiculous then you have to play as his killer. She’s a very unlikable character as well as the rest of her group. You play to get to your revenge against this girl who killed you father figure only to not exact that revenge. The main issue is these characters are written out of character only to push a feminist agenda. The game play is about the same except the jump button. Who cares. It really does nothing. This has really soured me on ND. Worst sixty bucks I’ve spent on a game in a long time. Expand

Game is a 7.6 out of 10

    Sound and Visuals: 10

This is probably the one part of the game that everyone can universally agree was nailed. The environments were phenomenal, amazing looking flora with great graphical fidelity. Lush forests, verdant cities, dark and impending tunnels, honestly you could spend so much of the game just looking at the environments and not get tired. The use of lighting was incredible, especially in those darker environments. The visual brutality of combat was stunning in how visceral it was. The game even offers character models you can unlock so you can truly marvel at every facet of the infected, and just how much detail was put into the characters. Sound wise everything sounded fantastic, it was more of the same from the first but that’a far from a negative. Every sound really added some extra depth to the brutality of each swing. Gameplay: 7

So this one has to be broken up and examined for each aspect. Survival/Horror aspects, Combat, and Traversal/Puzzles.

It’s very much a more refined The Last of Us gameplay. If you didn’t like that you won’t like this. The addition of being able to go prone and dodge help open up new ways to approach your combat. The survival aspect and that feeling of terror when it came to the infected was pretty much stripped away in this one. Infected became more of an obstacle to overcome than a fear inducing enemy. The game constantly forces you to ditch efforts at stealth which kind of takes away your freedom of gameplay. However the world is much more open than the previous one. In addition the locations provided various ways to approach a combat scenario, which helps keep the fights from feeling to stagnant. Traversal was pretty decent with some decent semi-open world areas, but exploring outside of these areas rarely felt rewarding. In addition I felt there was just too much ammo available to ever really worry about, same with parts for craftable items. Puzzles were pretty minor and were neither a positive or a negative for the game. The controls are still rather clunky like the first one. (Sorry had to cut a lot of detail to make the word count)

    Story: 6

Now, i’m not going to go too indepth in the story, as to not spoil anything, but to put it very simply: It was a 25hour long story that should have been 13hours long. At least 8 hours should have been removed and summarized into a 2 hour long segment AT MOST, (the rest could have been worked into a DLC that would be optional and released after launch) and the last two hours of the game shouldn’t have been included at all. They could have rewrote one segment only slightly, and the last two hours wouldn’t have even needed to take place. The game strives to tell a story of revenge, but drags the story in an attempt to expose you to both sides. The story is not dark, it doesn’t tackle dark and horrific themes, it’s just bleak. The game even teases a happy ending which shocks you due to the fact that it’s so bleak, just to rip it away from you for no real reason. To be fair, there are also TONS of moments where the character chemistry was so good that I couldn’t help but smile. Some really wonderful interactions between the characters and adorable moments. ESPECIALLY in the flashbacks. I understand what Naughty Dog was trying to do, and can appreciated the story for what it is, but it’s execution was far from good. The first half of the game I couldn’t put it down because i wanted to know what would happen next, but the second half I couldn’t put it down because I just wanted to get to the ending. I wholeheartedly believe that if they changed a large portion of the second half, and released it as future DLC, and fixed the ending, the game’s story would be an 8-8.5/10 alone and the game would have been around a 9 overall. It would have been a much more concise story without 3-4 pointless and unnecessary subplots. I will say that I have NO issues with how they decided to go about the game. No issues with how they handled characters, and found them and their paths to be a very natural progression of the story. A lot of the complaints are from fans that are mad about this, and they were unfounded. The characters were enjoyable So yeah, overall I sit at about a 7.6/10 for the game. I enjoyed it for what it was, but it certainly could have been done better.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While the game boasts great graphics and level design, the story and pacing fail this game completely. I'll say this right now, the writing is terrible. I don't say that as somebody just saying that because I disliked some of the infamous story choices, the characters are unrelatable and uninteresting. There is no emotional investment into any of them as individuals and they feel forced in there just to facilitate the story. Characters die before they become interesting, others are written so badly that you cannot care about them. The developers attempt to emotionally manipulate the player in cheap and obvious ways, trying to make the player feel bad constantly. This didn't effect me but It was very obvious and it became irksome and preachy.

It suffers from awful pacing, most of the time it feels like a slog to get through. This can be partly due to the choice to bring the game to a grinding halt at the halfway point, only to branch off into side stories. They might be okay on their own, but within the context of the grander story, it completely throws the pacing and atmosphere built by the first half. I found myself just wanting to get back to the story but I had to revisit the same locations over and over playing characters I didn't like or care about. The ending is terrible and makes no sense, it feels incredibly forced and It felt like this entire game was built around a theme or premise, rather than built around being a great experience.

The game itself has issues but the deceptive marketing and proven lies from the developers soured the atmosphere and has had a very negative impact on those who bought into a false premise. Terrible practices to attempt to save sales at the expense of audience trust. I truly wanted to like this game, I went into it with a positive attitude and open mind and I struggled to even finish it considering how bored and uninvested I felt by then. What a shame.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game has amazing graphics and splendid VA and motion capture, with a gameplay that is similar to the first iteration with some improvements on some combat parts.

However this kind of game suffer from a gameplay that can become a chore, because the story is the most important reason you play, you just want to know what follows. This is when the game stumble to a pit of mediocre story telling and a plot that happens because the plot need to happens and is the plot that carry the story not the characters, on the topic of the characters, the story disrespects the characters from the first game on an attempt to create shock and subvert expectations. The game tries to give morality to an immoral with an at best an inconsistent values and at worst a forced narrative.

It is plausible to make a cruel narrative with moral gray areas and be masterpieces like Schindler's List or Saving private Ryan. This game lack what makes those movies not fun, but a great piece of art.

In conclusion, repetitive gameplay, beautiful graphics and VA, but a story that is so poor that it belongs to fanfiction with no real character development apart from a screaming inconsistent and biased message.
