Instead the game keeps pushing towards a direction full of depression and makes it sound like there nothing i can really do about it. What's even worse, trying your hardest to make me hate a well established character by forcing me to kill some dogs and not doing otherwise with the other character do, it doesn't make me switch sides. Lastly, I appreciate the game developers and designers who put their heart and soul in this game, but you had to tolerate this massive **** of a story. Expand

This game has bad physics, bad graphics, and bad history, also it's not fun... It's boring at the start, the AI is stupid... Garbage. I can't believe what they did... It's like destroying your legacy on purpose.

When you can get past your own expectations, look past the things you hold onto from the last game and accept the fact that this is anew game not the old one - honestly, this game goes beyond all expectations. The details in this game is beyond belief. The story telling could have been a little better but nothing worth removing a point for. The set pieces, the texturing, the animations, the lighting, the audio, the physics and literally everything in this game is better than probably any other game I have played this generation. I wish more games were like this. Oh and yes some people die, there are lesbians in it and some other things things that may not be culturally or morally correct according to some. get over it. its a game. its a piece of art. I loved it :-) Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last Of Us was a masterpiece. Part II is just the game that I didn't like at first. Here's why: as a huge fan of Joel and Ellie I couldn't play as Abby, or even fight Ellie. She is a good character, but I think it was not enough to just show that zebra scene. Show us how she loved her father. 10-15 hours playing her line was an absolute nightmare. And that fight... Every time she punched Ellie I was like "ND please don't do it. Don't do it with me". At first, the ending was disappointed, but after replaying it I understood everything ND was trying to show. This is not a bad game. This is just the game people don't like. It's depressing, sad, but it's good. I just love Ellie so much that I can't imagine her being only by herself. It's sooo depressing for me.

P.S. remember when Sam asked Ellie what were she scared of at part 1? "Being by myself...I'm afraid of ending up alone". Think about the ending of part 2 after that.

For all those who played it and gave 2/10 or smt - give it a chance. Rethink about the whole game and things ND was trying to show.

    Joel deserved better.

The whole game hinges on the player disliking Ellie's actions (which is achieved by making the player do bad things) and liking Abby (who is a sadistic murderer and draws actual pleasure from killing people). This does not work.

TLOU 1 was a stunning game with some of the best storytelling, gameplay, and graphics I have ever seen. It sparked the discussion around whether video games are art. In almost all fields, TLOU 1 was revolutionary.
However, TLOU 2 failed miserably at living up to its 7 YEAR DEVELOPMENT CYCLE and TLOU 1.

A fantastic game about the cycles of violence and how we attempt to free ourselves from resent and hate. Deeply emotional, tough to play in moments.

Something to note is the unique way the game makes you question who exactly you want to be rooting for, between Abby, Ellie, or even Joel. Indeed, in my experience, I questioned how much of his actions were truly justifiable in the first game, how it affected the characters in this game, and if by the end of it if I truly had much empathy left for him.
Even Abby, whom commits that shocking scene early on in the game, turned out to be a like-able, enjoyable character full of complex emotions and intriguing motivations.
I have to say that I eventually came to despise Ellie just a little bit, which was no small feat on the developer's side.
This is a game that is occasionally hard to swallow because of the situations it puts you in, wherein you feel positively unwilling to continue on with your acts, which is partially why I suspect so many people have negative feelings towards it. I say that if a game could actively make me root for someone I thought I wanted to kill off early on, it has truly achieved something special.
There is this idea that a piece of media has to be comfortable to be a masterpiece, but I think this game has absolutely shattered that concept, becoming a true example of video game art.

It's a game I don't think I could come back to for maybe a year or more, because it feels so finished and heavy, but I do suspect that I'll be eating my words in a week or two.

    Minus points:
    - Game play similar to part one which was 7 years a head and was done for a previous generation. No improvement - Characters are not likeable. Playing with a character who I hate for more than 12 hours was the worst. I lost my interest while playing with her
    - The story itself comparing to part one..story based on revenge is the easiest way to make a game.
-The ending was like I spend 26 hours on nothing. It was like if the character woke up at the end and it was a dream.
    - The Agenda: tlou2 is not the first game which put a specific agenda, but spending the hole game just to brainwashing and accepting this agenda was one of the worst things in Gaming.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you come into this game with the right mindset, it might shake you to your core. This game has a perfectly told story that should make you think. The parallels that are drawn between Abby and Ellie, and their core group of friends have been carefully written. These girls draw from the same moral compass, but they've been on opposite sides of a situation that puts them in a mortal struggle against one another.

Sure, Abby kills Joel, who is a fan favorite. You are forced to understand this game is not called "Ellie and Joel's adventures part 2"...its "the last of us" (the last of humanity)

I agree with many on the web that there are many "agenda topics that are shoved in our faces," again, this world is supposed to parallel real life, with the trauma of child abuse, lack of decent males to choose from, it's safe to say that it isn't a stretch of the imagination Ellie would definitely be a lesbian.

This story tangles with topics of broken trust, forgiveness, revenge, cult-like beliefs and behavior, acceptance of other people's actions and their right to fight for their own beliefs, the realization that those in your community may not give two **** about you, and the need to think for yourself.

I'm rambling. No ellie does not get her revenge, she accepts that Abby was doing what she had to do after her father was killed, we find out near the end that ellie wished she had been used to find a cure, she could have "had meaning" she had to forgive Joel for taking that away, just as she must forgive Abby for taking Joel away.
This game draws parallels to modern society, where everyone "draws lines in the sand" over everything and the hate and rage that is freely shown to anyone that doesn't align with you, this game should hopefully make us all think about how we treat others. On the flip side of that coin, this game is JOYOUSLY BRUTAL. No matter which character you play as, you become a murderous PSYCO who's bloodlust can never be satisfied, I went from area to area gleefully and brutally killing every one and every thing. I found myself using leg shots and arm shots to maim my human rivals, rather than insta kill head shots. I smiled as they screamed in aggony and their comrades freaked out just before I cut them down in brutal animation after brutal animation. I loved the adrenaline dumps as I got the crap scared out of me by the infected time and time again, and the dread of knowing that they COULD BE ANYWHERE. I LAUGHED AND SMILED every time I died, because it was all gleefully gory. The art work here is beautiful, the world feels real, the progression of the infected areas are horrific. this game is an absolute must play. Dont listen to everything you read on the internet.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After finishing the game last night after 25 or so hours , my conclusion is that the world of the last of us created in this game is second to none, the graphics and visuals are most likely the best we will see in this console generation and the developers should at least pride themselves for knowing that, on their side, they created a game that improves on part one in every single way.... but then there’s the story. I knew about some of the leaks coming into the game, but I was determined to beleive that a full games worth of context would let me gauge my own opinion and hope it would be a positive one... but I’m sad to say that I beleive our beloved characters were sacrificed, to enforce the themes of hate and revenge and how it ultimately will lead to your own demise, forcing the characters to make severely uncharacteristic throughout, so it can find it’s way to force this message down your throat. I feel like their were elements of the story, mostly the flashbacks, that were genuinely beautiful to watch, so I can’t help but think that they had the ingredients to make a serviceable part two, but instead chose to further clamp down on its heavy message, sacrificing characters logic from the first game and force you to watch all of your favourite characters steadily decline to the point where there is nothing left, and by the games credits, I felt numb knowing that Ellie ultimately leaves with nothing... even her memory of Joel and the legacy she could have carries on, while also knowing that the antagonist gets to sail away with a renewed sense of hope and purpose in finding her community again. In a way I feel attacked for loving these characters, and it’s like I’m being punished for it. In conclusion, if your favourite part about this franchise is Joel and Ellie, then although this game is incredibly beautiful with a moody, second to none atmosphere.... you will end up with your heart broken knowing where their Stories end up ... and mislead by the fact that you play as the antagonist for literally half the game. I think I’m going to take the good parts of this game and theorise my own ending that the characters actually deserve to have. Expand

The game is dark and horrifying, echoing at times the scariest part of gaming, yet mixes this with a rich, vibrant world, that pushes video games forward. Everything from Part 1 has been pushed further- combat, environment, graphics. The narrative explodes in a well placed dense way as Ellie traverses America seeking revenge after a traumatic event. Exploring the other side of the story so to speak (avoiding spoilers) kept me guessing at every step of the way and truly had me evoking empathy in places and people I did not expect. This cultivates in a gloriously poignant finish that left me smothered in emotion, leaving me with a similar feeling after the credits rolled on part 1. The amount of Uncharted-esque set pieces in the game are well placed and thrilling. The themes of vengeance, grief, love and loss run rampant in this game but are beautifully threaded together in ways that kept me guessing, hoping, gripping onto characters. This is not for the faint of heart and I dare say is not for everybody as it plays with players expectations. This at times may frustrate what you've come to know from Part 1 of the game, but is explained in ways that only enrich the first game more, allowing me to find peace. Upon finishing the game the credits scrolled allowing me the time to breathe, take in what I'd just seen over the course of my 27 hour journey and ultimately reflect on what was an experience I won't forget.
