We can see the construction of the carachters. In the first part we see the love, Joel and Ellie making a friendship. The Last of Us part II is not another game of Naughty Dog, is probably the end of the one of the best games in the history. You can see all of the emotions in the characters, all of the intentions to stay alive in a world where everything is scarce. Does Ellie had to have an end of queen? This is not a story of Disney.

The gameplay, music and graphics all amazing and 10/10 but that story so disappointing there’s nothing wrong with characters dying but all build up for nothing? I honestly felt like there was a void when I finished it and there was more to come. The story ruined this other wise amazing game with great gameplay and graphics

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Okay where do I start, rating this game a 4/10 is sad. It truly breaks my heart to rate this game a 4/10, but it truly deserves this rating. This franchise is legendary and it's sad that their second installment of the game is a big disappointment. This game technically is amazing, it has jaw-dropping graphics, incredible animations, awesome cut scenes, great fighting mechanics, and acting. But where this game goes wrong is it's story. Since this is a story driven game, you'd expect the game to have an amazing story just like it's predecessor, The Last Of Us 1. Unfortunately though, the story of The Last of Us Pt 2 incredibly fails expectations. The first installment of this franchise was iconic and it was written perfectly to show human emotion and hope. The second installment falls into a terrible cliche of revenge. The revenge cliche starts with the death of Joel, he is tortured and killed by Abby right in front of Ellie. As a fan of the game, I was incredibly mad at how they killed Joel! The way they killed Joel was an amazing example of lazy writing, Joel would have never ever put himself into that situation in the Mansion. Joel would never be stupid enough to say his real name in front of random people he's never met. I mean for Christ's sake, Joel didn't even trust Ellie in the beginning of The Last of Us 1, why would he trust random strangers? it's the apocalypse! It's clear that Joel would have never put himself in that situation, so why did he? Lazy writing!! So after this event, Ellie goes on a killing rampage to find Abby. Ellie kills all of Abby's friends but never finds her, so Tommy suggests just leaving and letting it go. She agrees until Abby comes out of nowhere and kills Jesse, she then threatens Tommy's life at gunpoint. Abby points the gun at Ellie, the scene cuts and then we as gamers are forced to play as Abby for 10 hours to know her backstory. Naughty Dog, we don't care about Abby! The point of the game was to kill her, so why would you think it'd be a great idea to make us play as the woman who mutilated Joel, for ten hours? This ten hour gameplay with Abby was so boring, and I resented every second I had to play with her. That isn't the worst part though, Naughty Dog makes you beat the living **** out of Ellie! I really don't understand how this game was approved! Anyways, Abby lets Ellie live again, Ellie trys to forget about what Abby did, but she cant, so she once again goes to find her, and once she finds her, (after killing multiple innocent people) she lets her go! Hahahahahaha this game was just pointless! There was no meaning, just death! This game had a horrible intro, horrible plot, horrible character arch, and horrible ending! They made us sit and wait for seven years for this poorly wrote game! What's crazier though is how Naughty Dog is responding to criticism. They are calling every low rating a bot, or a misogynistic person, or a transphobic person, or a homophobic person. Wake up Naughty Dog! We are none of the above! I support LGBTQ+, and I'm not misogynistic! When woman are put in lead roles I don't mind, it's the same as if they were a male. Ellie is one of my favorite characters in all of gaming, same with Clementine from Telltales's The Walking Dead! We're not mad about Ellie's sexuality, we're mad about how Joel died, and how poorly written the story is. Expand

I understand the criticisms the game is getting. The game makes some ballsy moves both gameplay and story wise but I can appreciate it for what it tried to do. I still enjoyed it but it's hard to not get frustrated/confused when the game is split up the way it is.
I think the game does a really good job of humanising enemies and forcing you to see things from different perspectives.

An honest review of The Last of Us Part II from someone who has actually completed the game fully:

Gameplay: The gameplay for this game is very familiar if you have played the first game with some additional tweaks to make it better and not to mention it is brutal and visceral. The dodge button adds a bit of strategy to melee encounters as enemies can counter you and get hits off. No longer can you just mash square for a guaranteed kill. Ellie is more nimble than Joel. She can jump up to high locations, squeeze through cracks and go prone. Being prone is a game changer as you can hide under cars, shoot while laying down and even craft while laying down. It adds another element to stealth. AI is greatly improved as they will sneak, flank and shoot you behind cover. I can't count how many times I'm getting shot at from someone I couldn't see and spot an enemy peaking out from a crack in the wall. Infected enemies remain relatively the same except for the stalkers who are greatly improved and will hide behind cover and attack you when you least expect it. Standard issues with 3rd person camera obstructing your view. Overall: 9.5

Sound: Not much to say here. It is top notch. Gunshots echo through the air, enemies gargle and choke on their blood after a stab with Ellie's knife. Infected sound visceral and scary as ever especially the clickers. The soundtrack is intense and heightens pivotal moments. Voice acting is great. Although I haven't tried it, it is recommended to play this game with surround sound headphones to enhance the experience. Overall: 10

Performance: for a Naughty Dog game which is usually polished I was surprised to see the occasional glitch in this game. I had downloaded the day 1 patch however got an instance where Dina's body didnt fully load through an escape sequence, Ellie teleporting and then having audio sync issues, and a huge framerate drop during a scene heavy on graphics that required a restart of the checkpoint. Nothing game breaking but took me out of the immersion for those moments. Overall: 9

Graphics: The game is beautiful. The details in the character models and environments are amazing. There's not much to say here besides it is on another level. Facial animations are so good you can tell see every ounce of emotion on the character's face without them saying anything. Overall: 10

Story: Here is the big one and the most controversial one. I can 100% see why fans of the original Last of Us don't like this story. This game takes huge chances in character decisions, story arcs, and perspective. But I very much enjoyed it. I've thought about this and this was probably the worst game to ever get leaked ahead of time because you truly can't appreciate the story without playing it. The characters are so complex you simply can't get a sense of who they are through video clips. The story challenges you to see violence from the perspective of different people with their own motivations and lives. The main story isn't really about revenge as much as it is about empathy. It's so hard to describe this story without spoiling, but the main thing is it is full of twists and turns, and it will bring out your emotions. It is also much more darker than the first game. It isn't perfect though. There are moments where it dragged for me especially towards the end. I felt like it was going to end like 3 different times. And there is a moment in the middle of the game that kind of turns things upsides down which can feel a bit jarring and disjointed from the main plot of the story. Another criticism I have is I wish they would have made the reason for the decisions some of the characters make more clear especially at the end. You are left open to interpret which I understand that was by design but also leaves you a little confused and feeling without closure. Basic summary: Ellie is living in a nice city with an established community. A tragedy occurs and she sets out on a quest for revenge. That obsession with revenge is explored in how it changes her and the people around her. Her relationship with Joel is explored as well as the lie he told her at the end of the first game. Overall I think this story does an amazing job with storytelling and the message its trying to give despite some long winded moments and structure issues. Overall: 8.5

    FINAL GRADE: 9.4

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Sorry for my English!

I isolated myself from social medias since the 19th June till the moment I walked the game through to avoid spoilers. I haven't seen any leaks and didn't watch the trailer just because I forgot about it. I experienced so much emotions, roller coasters, felt sad and powerful, happy and bitter.

I was really shocked to see so many hateful and aggressive comments, people are writing threats to authors, calling players who enjoyed the game dumb, destroying discs...

Joel's death hit me hard, I really love him and his relationship with Elly are just a treasure. But that's why it was a base for a story about the hate - opposition of the first game which was about the love. In other way we couldn't share Elly's grief, though her relationships with Dina, Jessy and Tommy are sweet and warm too - we don't know them as good as we knew Joel.

I witnessed a death of the beloved person and it haunted me for a long time. Everything reminded me about that day, music, certain food, hospitals, people who reminded me him. I felt like I'm forgetting his face and voice, that everything that left are memories about his last minutes, his last breath. It took a lot of years to cope, but now I think and talk about our greatest memories only, our jokes, movies we enjoyed, journeys we made. He left, but it doesn't change my love for him.

Revenge never brings happiness, never erases the past. Elly waited for a relief, feeling that she did everything right. But one more death and one more child left alone will not fix anything. A moment when Elly remembered Joel playing guitar hit me hard again. For long months she couldn't remember his sight, all her dreams and thoughts were about his brutal murder, how she couldn't do anything to help him. But without killing Abby her emotions came back. Joel is in her manners, skills, hobbies - he is with her all the time. I literally cried remembering my own grief and understanding Elly's feelings at this moment. At the beginning I felt very uncomfortable playing for Abby, it was obvious from the first scene that she'll be a problem. And though I wanted back to Elly's route too, I enjoyed scenes on stadium, flashbacks about her silly, but kind father, her simple and natural a fear of the height, her inner fight to trust two young seraphites. She didn't get a relief after the revenge too - nightmares, a very risky help to enemies. Even her braid being cutted is like a symbol that she's not invincible or the most strong, somebody don't even need a clear motive to use or hurt you.

Game is not trying to make you to hate Joel - we saw by ourselves what he did. Maybe it was a real hope for a humanity and certainly was a tragedy for families and Fireflies. Nobody can accept or justify his actions - but we all understand why he did it. For a person you love you're ready to turn the whole world upside down. Flashbacks were a best surprise for me. Maybe till the end Elly didn't "see" them, she needed to cope to accept them again in the heart.

I spent five amazing evenings with this story and going to reach the platinum. I'm just sad how rude some people act.

    P. S. Remember that Elly loves dogs too, she petted one in Jackson and one of her gift guesses was a puppy. Also in the farm sketches she had a dog.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After playing THE LAST OF US PART II it took me a while to find the right words to review this game.
Having not read any leaks, this story is not what I expected, but that's exactly what makes this game so powerful! Naughty Dog plays with all your emotions - and at one point you might think to yourself "I don't want to do this anymore".
But this is not simply a story of revenge and hate, it's a story of love, rage, loss, and - above all - forgiveness.

Yes, killing of one of the two main characters is not what we wanted to see, but it shows us, that this post-apocalyptic world is relentless and every decision has its consequences. This is not only true for Joel - his decision to save Ellie at the end of Part 1 dooms humanity, makes Ellie eventually hate him and ultimately kills him - but also for Ellie.

How much are you willing to risk to get your revenge? For Ellie the answer to this question seems to be "everything". And only "everything" is good enough to travel through this harsh and cruel world. Yes, Joel's death was a punch in every gamers face, but it was necessary.
For a long time he was Ellie's "everything", the only one who cared for her. Think about that scene in the first game when she says "Everyone I have cared for has either died, or left me. **** except for you!" - she had no one, and now her "father" is gone.
The flashbacks during THE LAST OF US PART II help us to understand their relationship in the past few years. The amazing museum-sequence shows us how full of love this relationship is, yet other flashbacks let us see Ellie's scepticism about Joel's firefly-lie and her absolute disappointment when she finds out the truth.
These flashbacks are crucial to the emotional roller coaster this game is - and they are crucial to understand how everything plays out in the end.

Having to play as Abby for a big part of the game was frustrating, seemed unnecessary at times and even made me angry. it felt like Naught Dog wanted you to like this person - and I wasn't ok with that at first. But without knowing her story, getting to know her character and intentions, she would have been just another villain. Yet her story is quite similar to Ellie's.

But while Abby seems to become more and more humane, Ellie's development goes the other way.
Losing Joel fills her with so much hate that she seems to have no mercy for anyone. She kills everyone who tries to get in her way, not even hesitating to use torture. The lovely, intelligent and nimble-witted teenager turns into an almost emotionless killing machine. And when she throws away her life with Dina on the farm, the character we once loved seems to have vanished. But this final seek for revenge is her only way to find closure.

And this final payoff is probably not enough for many gamers.
But fighting Abby to absolute exhaustion and seeing Abby's and Lev's suffering is all Ellie needs to find closure - to be humane again. At this point she might not find forgiveness for Abby but for Joel.
And Ellie sitting at the beach, crying, was the most gut-wrenching moment I've seen in a long time.

Over all, the plot could've been more pleasing, since some major plot decision seem to be pointless, but I think in the end, it fits together beautifully and tells a human story that is full of emotions. it had me crying in the end - and what more do you want from a video game?
Everyone can write a happy ending, but choosing to go the difficult road elevates this this game to a new level.

Gameplay: as fun as the first game. Some great new additions: crawling, silencer, different training manuals...
Graphics: stunning. Every detail looks amazing and especially the characters look extremely realistic. Also superb acting - another wonderful performances by Ashley Johnson.
Music & sound: the music plays a big part in making this game so emotional. Best moment is probably Ellie singing "Take on me".

For me it's an absolute masterpiece!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part 2 is definitely not a game for everyone. The gameplay has vastly improved since the first game while retaining the formula that made the first game successful. The graphics are gorgeous, it feels less clunky, but by adding bigger environments that can sometimes appear to be a semi-open world, it can become more tedious for the average casual gamer. Although you definitely don’t have to spend the majority of the time looting, if that’s is how you want to play, it’s good having the option, and the rewards for playing like a completionist, which are very good this time around. The violence is tough to watch and to experience, but that is absolutely the point. At several times, I had to stop playing the game and take a pause several times because it is pretty tiring and deals with a lot of heavy themes.

The story is by far the most controversial aspect of this game. People have grown to love and respect these characters, and while I get why a lot of people don’t like this game, it is Naughty Dog’s game and these are their characters. Everyone involved in the making of this game knows the characters, and their motivations for doing what they do, a lot better than the average player and I’m completely convinced they didn’t betray the characters in any way. Joel was a very distrustful character who had done a lot of bad things until he met Ellie, who ended up changing the way Joel is, making him more compassionate. Living in Jackson has softened both Ellie and Joel, they have become more trustful and are bringing people to Jackson all the time. The moment when Joel dies you can see by the expression in his face he was thinking “I let myself trust these people and this is what I get”.
People seem to not be understanding that they don’t have ownership of these characters, who are as imperfect and ever-changing as any person in the real world. It felt horrible when Joel died, it felt horrible when you had to play as Abby after seeing what she had done, it felt awful when you had to beat the living **** out of Ellie. I hated doing those things, but that doesn’t mean that the game is bad. When watching this kind of “mature” media, you have to accept that bad things can happen, and in a post-apocalyptic world, they probably WILL happen. These events help the characters grow and develop in ways we hadn’t seen before. If people wanted the characters to stay as they were, they probably should just stick to playing Part 1.

This game managed to make me feel different about a person I absolutely abhorred, by showing you their side of the story, and most importantly, their motivations. Both Ellie and Abby do horrible things in the memory of someone they loved. Mid-way though the game, Abby starts to become a Joel-type character. A person who has been horribly hurt who starts doing bad things until she finds a better purpose in helping other people who need it (In Abby’s case it was Lev, and in Joel’s case it was Ellie). People are saying the ending is anticlimactic, but I think it actually shows the most character development I’ve ever seen in a game. It helped destroy the cycle of violence and revenge that had been taking place. The only way Ellie was able to do this, was by forgiving Abby, otherwise, the cycle of revenge and violence would have just continued when Lev recovered and realized what Ellie had done to Abby, but when Ellie came to the realization that this was Joel’s story all over again, only this time it was another person, she decided to stop, giving the player a sense of closure and realization. I felt like I got a life lesson out of this game. By keeping an open mind and not closing yourself to what you think SHOULD happen, and just experiencing what DID happen you can experience a masterpiece in storytelling that can affect your life in a positive way. This is one of my favorite games, I didn’t enjoy the game, but I still believe it is one of the greatest pieces of media I have ever seen and played and I, personally, would recommend this game to anyone who wants to experience an amazing story with twists at every turn. It contains a lot of symbolisms and touching moments, if your are open to them. You won’t feel great playing this game, but you can appreciate the lessons it leaves you with and the care that was put into making such a complicated and engaging story. I will definitely remember this game for years to come and don’t regret playing it in any way. Thank you Naughty Dog for taking a risk and making what felt organic, instead of what people wanted to happen.

    Graphics:
Needless to say that these are the best graphics of any PS4 game. What a conclusion to the PS4 era! The environments, charactercs and lightings look vivid and realistic. With a PS4 Pro and a good TV it even makes graphics of AAA PC games look obsolete!

    Gameplay:
The mix between stealth, open fights and exploring is more than splendid! Normally, I‘m not the person to explore game enviroments exhaustively, but TLOU2 just keeps me interested enough, to keep on searching for upgrades, ammo and other supplies. Furthermore, the world is just so beautifully designed, that I often times just climb on a car and just stare at the environments. The crafting and upgrade systemis easy to understand and not as annoying as in other games. That being said, I really think people should snap out of it and learn to think outside of the nutshell. The way the story‘s told is Hollywood worthy and it‘s already one of the best games of the year. I also reckon it being relevant in 10 years.

Без сомнений, игра настоящий прорыв в техническом плане, но история, просто провал.. Зря потраченые деньги и время.

i wanted to give it a 5 or 6 at best because of the actors and employees hard work but after sitting on it and thinking about the experience, i think the visuals just made it worse....These Games are all about the story, if i wanted a shooter combat i'd rather open up warzone....WHAT IS THAT ENDING ? WHO WROTE THAT HORRIBLY DRY SAX SCENE ? it gets more **** the more you sit on it. THANKS!!!

The best thing the last game had was the relationship between Joel and Ellie. They shat on that, introduced **** characters, and extremely repetitive gameplay. This game is so bad because of the expectations we had when we considered the last one. For you to understand HOW BAD this game is, consider that I made an account here just to rate this game and give it a well **** deserved 0. This should be considered a scam and false advertising, even MLMs’ advertising is more honest.

Btw, don’t pay attention to the “95% good” critics. They just love money $$$.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. "Empathy", "mutual understanding" and "forgiveness". There are few games like this totally surpassed the previous setting and enhanced the whole story to a new level. Ellie doesn’t have a chance to forgive Joe, but she did that to Abby. We hate Abby at the beginning when she got Joel killed like a dog, but while we play as Abby, it is clear that Abby is just another Ellie who has a different background, connection, bond and of course body type(joking here, man! Abby is the beast, look how strong this character is!) Both of them could be good friends if they are in a different world, just like Joel thought Sara would like Ellie at the previous game. This game discusses the relationship between revenge and forgiveness, and the turning point is the one you want to protect with. Such a wonderful game, such a thoughtful game. Expand

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
