Great gameplay just like the first game but story is everything for this type of game in my opinion it was poorly made and because of that it was it’s biggest downfall that made me want to refund it.

People are always looking for games that make them feel in a good way, like the first one, you know, like the definition between black and white, the good guys and the bad guys but the second one breaks with that, here are only gray (depending on your point of view), that's the good thing about this incredible game.

im not a huge fan of last of us 1, i dont think it is a masterpiece in story telling or writing it is one of the most cliché stories but if done well it is objectively easy to empathize and like the characters, especially Joel. With last of us 2 base of the problem is the story tries to be not like last of us 1. Meybe writers does not even understand the story telling tricks of last of us 1 and what type of story it is, why it worked, i think Neil Druckmann delusionaly belives last of us 1 to be something more then what it is and because of that he thinks his "genius-ness" of masterful and complex story telling is the reason why people love last of us 1, this delusion turns his confidence into a trap and eventualy causes the downfall of the story in the last of us 2. Last of us 2 acts a lot like kojima games, and it takes huge inspirations from games like mgs2 sons of liberty, and death stranding among others. now taking inspriration does not mean you are not being innovative, you cannot start from 0. every thing is build on top of the things come before but if you are litteraly the flag ship of the gaming industury, i think you should be more innovative but not simply take unnecicery risks, after all you are making a product not just art. last of us 2 fails at taking necicery risk and making them worth it, while i appresiate the taken risks in first few hours of the game, i think these risksl will put so many people down that already payed 60 dolars to the game and there is no goind back at that point. Marketing of the game is trying so hard to hide these things and i think this is a big f*** you to these people because,it pusposefully missinforms the customer. It is almost like "if you dont agree with us you are dumb and we know better you better be agreeing with us because you dont have much choice, you eiter already wasted your money or continue playing the game and try to agree with us."and it sucks. Now lets talk about innovation and inspiration part. Again last of us 2 takes a lot of inspiration from kojima, it acts like kojima games, but it does try to innovate on a genius material without being genius.they deffinitly do not understand the mecanics of the desing on inspired material, they just focus on the shiny parts of tricks kojima uses, and they do not study how kojima makes them work.Kojima always makes his games self-conscious even tho he wants to make movies,he knows he makes games.Last of us 2 is not self-conscious it wants to be a movie but it is not, becausese of this mistake gameplay becomes a drag and immersion braking, pacing is bad,it tries so hard to humanize the enemies for the sake of being a movie like experience but ai becomes predictable and robotic after some time, combat encounters almost always plays the same it act like giving choice to the player but choices player makes do not vary compared to the encounter count at some point in the story main character of the game starts to torture someone they hates, at this point you already understand the "genius messege" of the game but game gives you the control and the only thing you can do is press a button that tortures the person, there is no other ways to proggres the game, you know the main character has lost it and what they are doing is wrong but game thinks it is genius and treats you like an idiot, this is the main problem with last of us 2, it is constantly forced in every way, writing/story telling/gamplay, it belives it self too much so it does not realize the problems it has. and i as a person that payed money and time to this game, i think i have the right to say i expect a more proffesional product from the cutting edge production level of the gaming industry.

As of the final of this review i would like to example my critique with few fancy and blunt but meaningful sentences.

"Last Of Us Part II is not a game but a bad movie"

"Baby's first 'I have a message to deliver' story"

    "The Walking Dead with teenegers"

"It is a technical masterpiece, but it is a bad game"

If i have to do something i normally would not do, reggarding the metacritic scores controversy, i would give it a 7 out of 10.

Sorry for my writing i already wasted 4 hours writing this review im too lazy and tired to go through and fix all of this, i hope you understand the points im trying to make.

I hated the story. Honestly this is not what I expected from a Naughty Dog game they could have done a wonderful job but instead Neil Druckmann ruined the story. This game doesn’t even come close to the first one. If you are a The last of us fan don’t waste your money on this game, just pretend Part 2 never happened.

The game is still as immersive and enjoyable as the first game. The graphics are impressive, visually the best. But the story is a joke, without a doubt the worst thing about this game. You would only earn a grade for the visual.

Many people will likely dislike this game, but I personally can’t help but commend it for its ability to truly do something risky and succeed with it! The gameplay is some of the best stealth combat I have ever played and the story kicks you in the gut constantly! Switching from one protagonist to the antagonist at first made me feel unsure and worried but as the story continued on it truly turned into a remarkable experience with Both of our playable characters dealing with their choices! Getting revenge is truly a satisfying and dark experience until the game takes you to a place where it isn’t and watching Ellie come to terms with overcoming her anger and hate! I recommend trying this game as I believe it is one that will be talked about for a long time! Expand

Let's be honest. This is not the worst game. But because of the venality of all gaming journalists, the public has to somehow degenerate their discontent. They would give an adequate assessment and people would react normally. And so the game is 5-6 / 10, at least I got some pleasure from it.

Hold on here folks, I will try my best to give some genuine constructive criticism on this game. It's hard to see why people are upset when all the critical reviews don't really explain it, so allow me. I'll also say the good, the bad, the ugly. It's annoying to see a bunch of negative (and positive) reviews from people who have obviously never played the game. It's hard to see why people are upset when all the critical reviews don't really explain it, so allow me. I'll also say the good, the bad, the ugly. It's annoying to see a bunch of negative (and positive) reviews from people who have obviously never played the game. The Last of Us 2 makes me appreciate games like the first Walking Dead game, and movies like Logan, because they know how to send off a main character. The story was actually kind of bland? I did not expect this from Naughty Dog, we have seen the same revenge theme everywhere but for this game it is a chore to get through. It isn't even deep or well thought out, it's like a middle schooler could create a more complex theme. Yes, revenge is bad and hurts people around you. Not only is this generic and overplayed, but they made it as shallow and surface level as possible. They could have at least made it a little more complex, this is just bad writing. They had years. The gameplay is an improvement but is still repetitive, and the game is very long so it's actually kind of boring. Especially when you stop caring about most parts of the game when you realize how bad the story is. This is the first Naughty Dog game I've ever played where I wasn't wholly engaged. I don't know what happened. If someone told me that I would be checking my phone while playing a sequel to one of the most beloved games of all time, I wouldn't believe you. It almost seems rushed, I'd be fine with a revenge story if it wasn't so surface level and generic. The writing also took a step back. The first game felt like a movie with the smart dialogue, being constantly engaging, and having fleshed out characters. Elie doesn't have much of a personality anymore. Major characters died so suddenly and were never mentioned again, but they weren't well developed anyways so I didn't even remember some of their names, so whatever. Character development isn't really here either. I added an extra star for the amazing visuals and voice acting. That should be recognized. I also liked the representation of LGBT in the movie, as it didn't really interfere with the game and it was just nice to see. I will say though, the game spends more time on saying that Elie is lesbian and showing sex scenes than actually developing her (or anyone else's) character and personality, which was confusing to me. I don't have a problem with the characters not being likeable, I'm fine with that, they just aren't well developed and the whole thing was just very shallow. Nothing interesting at all. Even after the leaks I was expecting something at least a little bit good, I mean it's Naughty Dog. I was expecting some things to be surprising and divisive, but never would I think this would've been boring or badly written. If you actually watch some people play, many streamers have the "let's just get through this" attitude instead of the "I am loving this" attitude of the first game. Many have quit or talk about wanting to quit. It's rare to see them end streams early because they're just "bored," such as what PewDiePie did. This wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't a sequel to The Last of Us. Even if it was separate and called something else, this game would not be very good. It would not make the writing any better or the gameplay less boring. It's a competent game, it's just unremarkable. One of Naughty Dog's most bland games, it is sad to see such a beloved studio fall from grace like this because I'm sure many of the bad decisions here were made by just a handful of people. There is so much talent in that studio, and I still believe in them, so I am just going to pretend this game does not exist. Might be one of the biggest disappointments I have ever seen. When someone buys a PS4 and asks what games to get, you immediately recommend them the latest Naughty Dog game. But I would not recommend friends this game, not just people who were fans of the first, but even casual and unassuming gamers that just want to find a good game. This is not a good game and I am having a hard time understanding why some people would rate this higher than a 7/10. There's no substance or anything even engaging in this game. I came in here with an open mind and there are some pretty obvious flaws. Expand

For 2013 the gameplay was fantastic but I felt it was at best routine and at worst felt bored. I still like the crafting mechanics but felt it could have been improved seeing as a similar AAA title 'Days Gone' had done this element better in their game last year. I discovered that I had a lot of glitches in my playtrue. I ran into instances when fighting enemies where I fell through walls into nothingness repeatedly. Other times, my character became stuck on invisible ladders while climbing walls. If it happened once or twice, I would let it slide but it felt like the game was made with a first day patch in mind. From a graphics standpoint, I expected much more. The graphics are improved since the last game circa 2013, which is expected, yet are not as groundbreaking as I have heard from friends. They are quite similar if not slightly worse than the graphics from 'RDR2' and 'GOW' which came out more than two years ago. That being said, the graphics were one of the things I enjoyed about the game. The story was difficult to get through. I was able to understand characters motivations but felt that the execution was lacking. I enjoyed Ellies relationship with Dina but could not connect with any of the other new characters in the same way. I felt that Jesse's character in particular could have been fleshed out more given the games running time, which ran longer than the first. It made me hard to sympathise with these new characters when the revenge plot kicks in. I think the game lacks the ambiguity of its predecessor. The first game made characters organically feel grey. Joel, Marlene, Bill and Ellie all had their own intentions that you could understand even if you disagreed with it. Most of the characters in the first seemed to show human emotion towards their actions, both the good and the bad yet the sequel strays from this. Even the worst characters in the first showed a glimpse of humanity in their actions yet the sequel takes all of the humanity out of the characters. Overall, in a story driven game if you find yourself at times bored and at others wishing to play other excellent story driven games such as 'Life is Strange' or 'Telltales TWD' then you know the story has issues. What rightfully annoys people the most is that they hag a great but completely obliterate it with this "sequel". The story is boring, lazy, rushed, and without any development whatsoever in characters or plots. The focused on enforcing a scheme of ideologies rather than develop an intricate and interesting story line for each of the characters. They tried so hard so be "political correct" that they ended up with a product that lack of logic and sense. They did bad to the LGBT community in this case. They could have created a well-told story line for the romance between Dina & Ellie, could have explained more about the journey between Ellie & Joe, could have better introduce the new characters but not, they decided to rushed everything and ended up with an unpolished and mediocre product.

Naughty Dog deserves nothing but contempt from the gaming community.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
