Two aspects of this game are worth noting:
1- Technical: It is obvious that the developers did a lot of work under the hood to create incredible visuals, audio and controls. I can't find fault with the technical aspect of this game.
2- Story, and this is where the audience goes for this series, is absolutely atrocious. I've never seen such a blatant middle finger given to customers, and

I've never seen such a blatant middle finger given to customers, and i've seen a few. To those dismissing this as "oh no, another homophobe because of the relationship", wrong. Gay male here.

The anti-male agenda is also very strong in this sequel. Guess what, I like men. They should not be just inneffectual cannon fodder.

Overall, this is a huge waste of money even if you are a die hard.

$60 wasted on a game that was expected to be the best game ever. The magic and charisma that the first game had it is now gone in this game, it is a shame to admit that not all games are just as good as its graphics. Unfortunately, TLOU: II is one of those games, looks really good in the outside but in the inside it is all rotten.

Two points deducted for Abby’s Story Arc and pacing. Besides that the story is solid despite too many flash back sequences. Good game just not at the level of the original.

As much as I love Joel, his death was justified. he selfishly ended any hope of saving humanity and killed countless people’s family to do it. The stuff about Abby being trans wasn’t true. And by the end I got it. Everyone knows the game isn’t trash if they Really, actually played it. But I get the bombing, and I hope ND gets the message. I don’t hate anyone, but the majority of your audience are males. And you are losing your straight male audience. Please keep your political views out your next game Expand

However, the direction the studio took is not understandable, specially when the strongest aspect of the first game was the story. The game have nice graphics and gameplay but too bad it got held back by a lack lustre story with weak characters and confusing plots compared to the first game Expand

I’m sure people wouldn’t like it if there was absolutely different story, cause first part is perfect. It’s a drama, so don’t forget to say “thanks” to Druckman, for left Ellie alive. )))

The story was a little choppy and forced but the gameplay was very solid and fluid. It’s the most beautiful game form this generation when it comes to graphics. Just because people don’t agree with the story doesn’t mean this game deserves a zero, the story is just a fraction of a game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For a game that's longer than half a decade in anticipation, it tries to shoot a lot of shots the previous game didn't and fails at all of them. That said, there is a handful of great moments but they are few and far in between, certainly not enough to justify a big 60$ game from a big AAA dev. In fact, a lot of these moments are almost exclusively the flashback sequences, which try to break apart the development of Joel's and Ellie's relationship and it's consequent collapse following the end of the first game and the events leading up to this one. The first hour seems quite promising, but the second and third hours of gameplay break that quality apart faster than Outbreak Day did Last of Us America.

A story driven game uses the concept of amazing storytelling to make up what it doesn't have or otherwise lacks in gameplay. The thing is; they forgot to make the storytelling actually good.

It is clear Naughty Dog tried to make the underlying theme about how revenge doesn't pay off, but almost nothing about the way the characters act makes you want to do nothing else but drive a bullet into their heads one at a time.

The devs have made the characters jump to illogical choices on a dime, often for what seems no other reason than to work into the game for the sake of convenience in telling the story.

Joel in the first game was made up to be the type of guy who'd quite literally die before trusting himself to a complete stranger, and within the first two hours of the game not only does he trust himself to a stranger, but he trusts an entire group of strangers with both his and his brothers name, not even 2 minutes into being in the same room as them.

Other illogical choices include a handful of rather shallow pieces of romance dialogue that spontaneously spawn make out scenes which sometimes evolve into full blown sex. I'm aware that the game is rated M for mature, but dear God do they not happen at the most awkward times, featuring the most awkward random dialogue and at moments so convenient the developers might as well have written them off as some sort of low effort fanfiction. They feel way out of place; it'd be on par with God of War 4 starting off on a sex scene that depicts Kratos making Atreus because he becomes high on weed and refers to Atreus' mother as "cute". That's literally the kind of "romance" that happens in this game.

But the most illogical choice of them all comes from the devs themselves: Ellie embarks on a crusade lasting multiple weeks, going through the entire combined militia force of the very same group that not only tortured and killed Joel in front of her own eyes, but openly mocked his death in front of her once she goes on to pursue them all for the injustice done on Joel. She is ready to kill, torture and push through an insanely well manned and well armed force to get to Joel's murderer, and what does she decide to do? Spare his killer at the very end. In fact, Abby kills a lot more people close to Ellie than just Joel. Still, she let's her live.

Granted Ellie butchers her way through everyone Abby (Joel's killer... no, Joel's *murderer*) knows, but whereas Abby seeks a personal vendetta against Joel and Joel alone, her friends do not shy away from showing murderous intent upon Ellie, and in extent her whole group against absolutely anyone outside it. Abby's group, the WLF, are extremely isolationist and would shoot anyone on sight, whether or not they're surrendering and whether or not they mean no harm at all.

The game is split into levels where you play as Ellie and parts where you play as Abby, but where Ellie's levels involve going from one place to another in search of Abby to enact revenge upon, the entirety of Abby's levels focus on the victimization of herself and all her friends for the actions that Joel did in the past and those that Ellie does, as if they're both some sort of monsters who have killed with no regard for the value of life.

Yeah, obviously making a group of people who kill on sight appear more human doesn't work well.

The Abby levels are suppose to make you feel more bad for them, but in reality no amount of backstory and no amount of sob stories is going to make you /not/ want to kill them. That would make the hunt for Abby that Ellie spends months on worthless right? They're cold blooded killers and nothing can put them in a positive light.

Well Ellie disagrees. As I've stated before, Ellie pretty much let's Abby go because killing is bad, and you shouldn't kill, not even if that person quite literally killed your friends, your loved ones and the closest thing you've had to a father figure right? Going back to the God of War comparison again, imagine if after climbing to the top of Mount Olympus and killing everyone, Kratos just came to Zeus and said "Okay let's be friends now". That is exactly what happens in this game.

The game has nothing going for it but graphics.

I don't want to discredit those that have played the game as I have and didn't enjoy it but I get the sense there are many haters that only read a story summary before posting a negative review. This is an amazing game with a story of so much depth. The story makes the game so existential that it leaves a mark to its player. After completing and experiencing the prequel and Part II, it makes you contemplate the true essence of the lesson that this series wants to communicate. That's this game is a form of art unlike any other highly rated game.

The story goes beyond traditional three act structures and typical hero-journey esq stories and questions your ability to forgive and understand a point of view beyond your own. The game will leave you feeling exhausted, empty, questioning whether it was worth it as you live empathetically and side by side with the characters. It's so easy to see the parallels between Joel, Abby, and Ellie and how each are their own hero. Only when the characters seek beyond revenge do they gain something, more meaning in their own lives. Abby is a more obvious example of this as she learns to empathise with the enemy faction, it requires you to empathise with your own enemy. The storytelling is masterful, the world is beautiful, the gameplay is tough and intense. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Hello all,
Last of us is a unique game and without equivalent today.
Last of Us can speak to the hearts of the men and women who play it.
Last of us is a game that questions you and exposes you
Will I make the same choice as Elijah?
Will I go so far in violence and hatred for revenge?
Can we just accept everything because this world is cruel and merciless to anyone?

I do not have the answer to these questions but in any case I asked myself. And that is, for me, the real success of this game: Transcending the video game to directly reach the emotions of the player.

Let's talk technical: The game is the most beautiful of its generation currently.
And more particularly the animations. They are impressive in truth and intensity. I invite you to bring your attention to the faces and hands of the characters, The detail provided is stunning, you can feel each emotion of the characters in the expression of their gaze.

The expression of Elijah when she kills an enemy or gives a blow, when she looks in the mirror, when she speaks with other characters, all these details allow to fully appreciate the care and work performed on this game.

The sound environment is a central element of the game as was that of the 1 ... It is sometimes discreet and sober, we simply hear the wind and nothing else and sometimes it plays the role of heartbeat of the game. play with our nerves.

The gameplay is mastered, it is version 2.0 of the gameplay of last of us 1 and does the job completely. Let's talk about the angry subject: The scenario.

For me the scenario is good because the message is coherent and it brings a real questioning, it takes us out of our comfort zone and it tries to disturb the player in his certainties.

To fully understand the script, you have to understand the double narration put in place by Neil Druckmann.
We talk about hatred, revenge in a cruel and merciless world, where anyone can lose their life at the bend of an alley and without any form of greatness, just cold and brutal death.

And we (the player), we must accompany a character in the worst side of humanity because in the end, who is good or bad in this type of world?
The concern of the scenario is the rhythm which is given to it.

The second act is, in my opinion, "heavy" because the element of surprise has disappeared.
Nevertheless, it allows you to discover a character that you want to appreciate despite the atrocities of which she is capable.

And the genius of this game is there, the paradox of characters full of hatred and cruelty for those who set out on their way but who are ready to give their lives to protect their friends, their families.

And the game pushes us to enter the minds of these characters, even if it means getting lost.

For the various concerns related to the rhythm and the backups (oh if this automatic backup is replayed !!), I put the note of 9/10. This is my reason note.

For all the emotion that this game gave me and all the pleasure I had to find Elie, Joël and new faces, I put a note from the heart: 20/20.

Now, I would like to raise a problem: the review bombing.

Last of us Part 2 unfairly suffered a negative review bombing on metacritic

We have the right to hate a game, we have the right to resent it because it has disappointed us but we cannot harm a game for the wrong reasons… and it's the wrong reasons everyone knows them: Trolls without much human value have expressed their hatred against LGBT communities.

As a reminder, the game contains kissing scenes between Elie and Dina and in the world of last of us you can see flags and lgbt tags.

All this "LGBT" content combined, this represents 5 min… 5 MIN OVER 30 HOURS OF GAME !!

I'm tired of seeing our society governed by trolls, homophobes, racists ... They are invading video games.

As a passionate player, I cannot tolerate that we dirty the work of a studio, that we destroy the message of a work and that we obscure the theme of a game just because of mediocrity… I make you a solemn request: Play Last of Us Part 2 while being invested and let yourself be transported / MAKE YOUR OWN OPINION! Don't listen to these review bombing idiots Do not watch the streams of this game, it deserves to be experienced and not just seen! Do not listen to specialized sites that all put 20/20! Don't listen to me !! Listen to your playful soul and experience Elie, Joël and Abby and tell us REALLY what you felt. Here and on metacritic and wherever you can, don't let mediocrity decide for you.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then...
