Grafik, Designs! Synchro alles top.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game was an absolute rollercoaster from beginning to end. Honestly, the only thing that is preventing me from giving this a perfect score is the pacing. There is a point mid game where the perspectives switch and it jars the player out of the immersion that had been established. I feel the game would have functioned better by having the player tackle one day at a time as both Ellie and Abby in order to better establish the similarities these two actually share. The themes about revenge and an overall coming-of-age story really does play well into both character’s stories. Abby was a character that clearly had some walls she had built in order to protect herself and with Lev, he managed to break all of that down. In a way, Abby became Lev’s Joel. Ellie’s character is defined by the very obvious discomfort she shows when she tries to be a badass murderer like Joel was: Nora’s torture in the hospital, Trying and failing to interrogate Mel and Owen in the aquarium (resulting in her killing them in self-defense) and subsequently having a full on anxiety attack upon realizing that Mel was VERY pregnant. Ellie is NOT a murderer. She is empathetic and cannot kill in cold blood without repercussions. She isn’t Joel, as much as she tries to be throughout the story. The fact that Abby showed Ellie mercy TWICE and didn’t kill Dina by the wishes of Lev shows just how much Abby realizes that revenge isn’t always worth it. Her revenge on Joel led to her closest friends being killed. On the path of revenge, you dig two graves. Ellie didn’t learn the lesson of forgiveness until the final conflict with Abby. But the cost of her continuing her revenge, she lost everything upon her return to the farm. Dina and JJ are gone, presumably back to Jackson. Ellie lost the life she built due to her need to avenge Joel’s death.

Another high point in this is Tommy, I believe Tommy embodies that rage that never dies. He was the first to leave after Joel’s death, he didn’t even tell Ellie, who watched him die too and was his surrogate niece. Tommy acted as a catalyst to keep Ellie on her rampage for the sake of avenging Joel. Hell, Tommy nearly died at the theater conflict, but a lucky shot saved him (whether Abby intentionally missed is up for debate). Despite having been okay going back to Jackson that night, he continued trying to track Abby and Lev down. He MOCKED Ellie for wanting to let go and move on. He threw the point of the ending in the player’s face without us even noticing. Naughty Dog really nailed down the themes of forgiveness and the cost of revenge and it’s not often something like that is told in a video game. Again, pacing and establishing Abby’s life as you move through the city only to culminate with the conflict in the theater would have been a cherry on top and given the game the 10/10 for me.

Why is it that lately, if you have the word “last” in your game/movie, it’s terribly controversial? The Last Samurai, the Last Jedi, The Last of Us Part II, etc.

This is a complimentary story to the first game. While the first game was about the amazing and beautiful things that can come from loving someone, this game is about the awful and horrific things that can come from loving someone. Just because this story isn’t what many fans wanted and was very sad doesn’t mean that it was poorly written.

Great game that tests the players emotions and feelings. The developers tell a great story from two perspectives that is normally not told and shows a world were no one is a hero but morally gray or complete evil.

The open scenarios full of puzzles of the start disappear and the game turns into a railroad experience.
The game is not awful, but the the decline in quality is too step. After more than 15 hours of gameplay, I just don't have the will to keep playing. The fact that after so much time playing the game I just can't muster the will to finish what remains really speaks how disappointing this game is. A real shame :(

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Phenomenal sequel. I went into this game with quite a bit of worry due to the abundance of negative reviews regarding the narrative choices. One of the major gripes being a particular scene involving a golf club. That scene set up the character Abby. That scene made me despise her and want nothing more than to hunt her down in as Ellie in an epic revenge story.

The story ended up making me love and understand Abby as a character and completely understand and sympathize with her motives. It made me realize the impact of Joel's actions in the first game, and that the impact of those actions were felt on more than just faceless NPC's.

    Don't ignore this game.

I played the first game and it was amazing and the ending was so opened and now the second one is so similar everything is okayyyy Joel in TLOU1 lost his daughter and we also lost Tess and Sam and he’s brother but nobody said **** about it!

Now we lost Joel to give us the same feeling as Ellie to commit vengeance and it’s a great way to feel the story but the cost is really high. They gave us Abby’s story to also know why they killed Joel and make us know that there’s no good or bad people only people and just like Joel and Ellie we could’ve played with other random survivors/criminals cuz that’s what they are.

This game destroyed everything I loved about the first game. It is filled with characters that the game force you to immediately adore. It is a dark game with no light in it. It is just another empty revenge story. It doesn't bring anything new to the table. Kinda like new Star Wars trilogy . Very dissapointing after 7 years of wait.

I never felt a connection to the new characters as much as I did try. Naughty Dog made a character that was so obvious you were supposed to sympathize for. But it was so FORCED! Unlike the first one which was organic. In the first game, I didn’t even notice how attached to Joel I was until he he got severely hurt. I was surprised. I couldn’t get that spark back this time around. The story was highly disappointing and all over the place. This is just my personal opinion, but it was too long. I’m a slow gamer as it is, and this game took forever. You can tell there is a message being pushed. Whether or not you like the message I believe is a personal decision every individual has the right to make. And for those who do not like the message should not be condemned. Especially when it so upfront and obvious. On the positive side, like everyone clearly praises, it’s graphics are amazing. I was surprised I was playing a PS4 game. A lot of effort was put into graphics and it shows. Gameplay is familiar. Still good and easy to learn like the first one. And my oh my, can you customize the settings. Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II.
