A great attempt at developing game storytelling beyond traditional constraints of narration focused at one point of view. Playing it is a great experience, but as far from fun as it can be - it's challenging and deeply painful, so not for those who seek just a simple pleasure.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Unlike all the whiny idiots here, I will give this game a fair review. Get over yourself, Joel fanboys. Killing has consequences, and he paid for his mistakes in a brutal, unforgiving way. Such is the world of The Last of Us I and II. The game is very good. I didn’t agree with all aspects of the story, but I can appreciate it all the same. On a technical level the game is 10 out of 10. Stunning. The only knocks that bring it to an 8 for me are the Seraphine storyline which I found drug on WAY too long. In general, the 3rd act is just way too long. And the violence. Oh, yes, the violence. I don’t actually mind it too much because it does fit the narrative for the most part. But I did find some spots where the game was just ghoulishly violent for the sake of it, not that it fit the story well at that point. And for that I will knock a point off. But all in all, Naughty Dog’s “very good” game is still better than almost any other studio’s best efforts. They are just that good and TLOU2 is no exception. It’s a very good game that fails to quite live up to the sublime first installment, but that doesn’t make the game a 4 like so many other idiots here are rating. Grow up, people. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I made it a point to avoid the spoilers. So when Joel was killed, it was a WTF type of moment. OK, I can handle it, its just a game, ok maybe Ellie is going to do cool stuff and avenge Joel. And then I had to play as Abby. Nope, stick a fork in me, I'm out.

Whoever is doing the writing for this game, it feels like Ryan Johnson is their spirit animal because I could not continue as Abby. I'm done with the franchise. Maybe I should've read the spoilers, I make it a point to ignore them, but the story was enough to override the game and make me regret buying the game. I got a few bucks trade in at gamestop, I guess ok?

The only comparison I have is D&D of Game of Thrones, they just lost touch with what made it good or maybe they just don't care? Maybe they got some big business focus group together and figured this story would make the most money. Whatever happened it's a shame. Doubt I will venture into a part 3 if there is one.

This game has stuck with me for a couple weeks now. Just incredible work. It's not a 10 because there are some specific points where the pacing falters a bit and one of the key relationships isn't fleshed out quite as well as I think it should be, but my god what a bruising, jaw-dropping piece of storytelling overall. This game never stops swinging for the fences, and I love it for that.

Its nothing special, lacks game play innovation and the story is forgettable, and it is not fun, its just draining. There is nothing classic or timeless about this game, and five years from now no one will be talking about it.

I could end this review by just saying that me and loads of fans would be better off if the second part didnt exist, but unfortunately it does.

Once again, the graphics are outstanding, probably the best I've seen on ps4. The amount of details, level design, the variety of locations is top notch. But the story is really weak. The characters we love are unrecognisable and are turned into complete jerks, who sometimes look like even they can't justify or understand their actions.

The whole idea to show us the "villains" point of view is interesting and I was intrigued in the middle of the game, wondering what will happen next. But I just could not get myself to worry about Abby or Mel (pregnant woman goes on a dangerous mission and is fine with it, like cmon. she is a doctor aswell, but it totally fine with it) or any other new characters.
The ending is the worst part, its totally devastating and unbelievably unsatisfying. The game had enourmous potential and technically is done very well. But the plot is horrendous and is basically done like the last season of GOT.

Could've been a great sequel and a great series. Truly a shame. At least the first one will be remembered fondly.

Oh, and look out for those wielding their political hammer, labeling anyone who doesn't like the game a bigot or a phobe. Real mature. I'm sure they all feel just as self righteous as the director of this game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Having read a lot of reviews for this game; I think some people need to remember that it is, after all, only a video game. Admittedly it’s the sequel to a masterfully made original, but still not of earth shattering importance. It’s not a “0” nor is it a “10”. I believe it is a good enjoyable game but not as excellent as the original. This is a common phenomenon. With the possible exception of The Godfather Part 2, how often is the sequel not as good as the original masterpiece?

I have been wracking my brain to try and work out what exactly is wrong with this sequel. I think the main issue is the disconnect between the actual gameplay and the story concepts. The game play glorifies murder. For example, there are no non lethal takedown, no ability to avoid conflict with all the uninfected enemies and some extremely brutal death animations. This is not a criticism as many video games do the same thing. I for one really enjoyed the virtual blood bath that makes up the majority of the game! However, many of the cut scenes and story concepts try and portray the opposite by Illustrating the negative side of violence and revenge. During such cut scenes, I found myself thinking “yeah, yeah - when can I get back to the slaughtering?” The actions of Abby and Ellie during some of the cut scenes just did not ring true. They seemed dishonest as if the characters are pretending to be sickened by the violence but can’t wait to get back to the murdering. I think this creates too much of a disconnect and does not make the characters believable or relatable.

In addition, efforts made to expound the story concepts and explain all the character arcs made the game over long. I felt it should have ended sooner, perhaps when Abby let’s Ellie go after the fight in the theatre.

Having said all that, it’s still an enjoyable, action packed and excellently animated experience.

The enemy then took cover at the front of the car whilst my partner joined me at the trunk. Now being as this car was next to a wall i couldn't flank them to take a shot. So being boxed in i decided i'm just gonna jump on top of the car and rush them, honestly wasn't sure it was gonna work. So i mount the car and run towards them then Ellie straight up flying kicks this dude in the face and while he's still reeling she crushes his skull with her bat.
This is honestly the best combat AI i have ever experienced in a game. Every encounter is different depending on surroundings and dynamics. It really shines. I loved the first games story but i wasn't very impressed with the gameplay. This gameplay feels fast, frantic, desperate and realistic in all the best ways. Straight up loving it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is one of the best game of this year for me. Yes I feeled myself devastated after the walkthrough, but I also was very grateful to naughty dog for the tremendous work they've done! I know that some people hate TLOU P2 because of Joel's death, the second part of the game and so on. I personally think that those who hate TLOU P2 in general didn't playes at all, they just saw some leaks and make conclusion that this game is about subverting expectations and disrespect to the original game, but they were wrong, this game is good, and it was made by those people who very love Joel and other characters, Troy Baker personally argue with Neil Druckman about this "golf club scene" and in the and even he realised how good, and sad, and very important this story is, this story not classic story about protagonist who won all enemies, in this game you actually never find classic protagonist, but in the end of this story you will understand that this game is much more than the other many good games wich released in this year exactly because of this story. 10/10 best graphics on this generation, best world building, best action and steals gameplay, great art direction and again the best storytelling in this year. PS: you don't have to love this game, but do yourself a favour and play in TLOU P2 at the beginning and in the end, and only after this come here and say your opinion about this game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First let me start by saying that TLOU (the original) is one of my top three favorite games of all times. I've played that game in all difficulties and at least 8 times total. That game deserves to be called a masterpiece.

My score for this God-forsaken title is 3 out of 10. Reason why I'm giving it a 0 is that if the "critics" have the audacity to give it a 10 then I'll do the same the other way around and drop it to 0.

Joel is one of the best written characters I've had the pleasure to play as. He's deeply flawed, hurt, and he's just trying to survive. He runs into a situation that allows him to experiment what he once thought lost. We get to go through that process in the middle of an apocalyptic world with incredible environment and powerful relationships. That story gets to you, it makes you feel connected to the character.
Ellie is a complete bad-ass. We love her from the moment we met her and once we got to know her she became a person you just can stop trying to care of, even though she's more than capable to do it by herself. This father-daughter relationship creates a bond that it's impossible not to love.

    Here's my take on TLOU2:
    - Joel is portrait as a complete different character. He makes decisions that are not the ones he would do. Same as his brother Tommy.
    - Joel gets killed the worst imaginable way. And in the first two hours! He deserved better. Know your audience Neil Druckman.
    - Joel gets spit in his bashed faced by a self inserted Druckman after he's killed. I felt that spit in my face, and before you say it, no, not in a good story telling way, just in a disgusting, unnecessary way.
    - Ellie: I still love Ellie, it's just overwhelmingly sad to see that all they added to her in terms of character is a revenge plot. No closure on her relationship with Joel.
    - Abby: I will never care for Abby, you can put me in a 60-hour Abby only game, where she saves humanity and then becomes Mother Theresa 2 and I still won't like her. Her motivations, character, story telling are not compelling in the way they were presented. And on top of that we get to play as her for 15 hours? And right after she killed our beloved Joel? I think that my 3-year-old nephew can come up with something better than that.
    - With so many plot lines, you decided to explore this one? Was a team of writers consulted on their thoughts and if they were, were their opinions taken into account? I've read hundreds of ideas on possible plots that I would get behind. Deep, interesting, exploring our beloved characters even more. So many possibilities wasted, this is just sad.
    - Gameplay is basically the same as the old one so nothing more to say on that side.
    - Visuals are stunning no doubt about it, top-notch in that regard. Unfortunately this means nothing if the game story isn't enjoyable.
    - The ending is mind-blowing bad. Let's take your plot and finish it maybe? Oh, no! Let's kill 300 people (including a pregnant lady) and then let's forgive the one person who destroy our life and killed our father. Seriously?

I could write an essay on why you shouldn't play TLOU2 but I'll just stick to what you should know right now: Don't waste your money on this game. Better support game companies that actually care about their fan bases.

The first game was a masterpiece, loved it. But the second is a nonsense. Just about revenge with no real outcome. Game mechanics and animations etc, all fine. Just has no story.

And towards the end, I thought it was ending three of four times (and I wish it had) but it drags on and on. To an ultimate conclusion, that is just a farce. It takes the saying, 'before you embark on a journey of revenge, you should dig two graves' as a plot for a whole game. The character interactions are weird, people following others for no good reason - and then willing to sacrifice their lives. Or go on a major killing spree for their love that has just happened.

I hated it to be honest and characters like Anabolic Abby - made no sense in a post-apocalyptic world. Nor did things like sending pregnant women out on patrols ... fine being pregnant isn't a disease but that is the future of the world they carry. You would protect that at all costs. Then on top of that the 'diversity' nonsense - and the women overpowering massively muscled men. Yeah firearms equal the playing field but there is a lot of hand-to-hand combat type episodes and I didn't buy it at all.

What made this game interesting was the leaks that Naughty Dog refuted at first and went after YouTubers etc with copyright strikes. Well they were all pretty much true - so doesn't make Naughty Dog look particularly good. Hope they just end the series now and forever. Interested to see how they deal with this story in the new TV series.

Terrible, long and boring - had potential with decent game mechanics and graphics etc. But squandered by taking a very thin story and dragging it out from multiple perspectives. Avoid at all costs, not even worth the money I paid for it on sale.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Finished it, it's not a perfect game, I'm honestly not sure I'd give it a 10/10, but the incels are busy downvoting this game so here goes.

It's a good game, it doesn't feel as impactful as the first game, but it's still great.

    - Graphics -
The graphics are, as expected really good, among the very best I've seen in any game, what really stands out though is the animation, everything looks natural and lifelike, I felt completely immersed as I was playing, as there was very few things to remind you that you were playing a game.

    - Story -
The story is probably where I'm a little split, it's a perfectly good story told competently, and all the complaints about bad writing followed up with no examples, ring incredibly dishonest to me.

There were irks though, like Abby's father, he didn't need to be Mr. perfect, for me to sympathize with Abby, so while I understand the need to introduce him, it was laid on a little thick imo. I actually liked the doctor you only hear from in the first game, that let out the monkeys and gets bit as a result, well meaning but probably not the smartest.
There were other minor stuff, but overall, it made good sense and all the characters seemed real and relatable.
The overall story was fine, it never did have the same gut-punch effect of the first game, but there are some really nice details, like the book on Joels counter, that'll only make sense when you learn what Joel did for Ellie, for her birthday.

    - Gameplay -
Despite it technically just being a third person shooter, it played nicely, and feels like it's own game. I really liked the AI, they're not all knowing, but they'll still flank you or sneak up on you given the chance, and you will actually notice differences in the AI wether they are Seraphites, or WLF, a really nice touch imo.
It keeps the gameplay from the first game, in the sense that aiming isn't the easiest, your character will sway a lot, at least early on before you get upgrades, and ammo is scarce, but you somehow never completely run out, no different from the previous.

    - Sound/Music -
Just great stuff, sounds are as good as you'd expect at this point. Music, it's really good, but imo not the kind you go listen to after playing the game, it's very subtle, and I find myself recognizing it if it plays somewhere.

I'm glad they didn't pander to people who liked Joel and Ellie, I mean we all liked them as characters, but fortunately that first game is still available, and still plays nicely if that's all you want. If you want a new story with incredible detail, and good characters, I'd recommend this game.
