This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Played it (didn't pay for it , gameshare with a friend here) and to be honest. It was a meh not thaaat bad but not even good. The gameplay is the same from TLOU 1 , with the twist that now you can actually prone and jump at your own will. It's basically the same except now you have nicer graphics which imo isn't even important (Minecraft has one of the best rating and we are talking about pixelated graphics there). The story isn't even good. It's pretty mediocre and I'm not talking just about the golfing scene. It's everything , the side characters basically disappear from the game after they die , like if the have never existed. In Tlou1 when Tess dies she is mentioned plenty of times after that happens , here when a character dies that isn't thaaat important or relevant it just goes into oblivion. The writting is bad , the chars don't have the same feel like how it was in TLOU1. The "revelation" scene with Joel and Ellie is awful , not even emotional. It was a sequel nobody wanted, or at least it could have been just about Abby. Since almost 75% of the story with Abby is a "new" version of the journey with Joel and Ellie. It has an awful story , yeah it has an "un-predictable ending" but at the same time it makes the story even worse , Ellie kills tons of people , a dog , etc. Then "revenge is bad" , if we saw that in a different scenario like John Wick , RDR2 , RDR1 , etc it would be pointless and underwhelming , and this is the case for TLOU 2. Final note : I'm not even mad , it's a game. Even so, the game is pretty bad and it was disapointing. I'm sorry for the cast, since their VAs are awesome , but man the writting of this game is bad , very very bad. Expand

It was a mission to save the world told from the perspective of the protagonist Joel; who lost his daughter in such an evocative fashion that I was crying 15 minutes into the game. This turns Joel into a hardened survivor who does not dwell on his emotions or the emotions of anyone else, all he has is the need to survive.

Ellie gives him a purpose, she represents the light in the darkness and in time teaches him to love again. It is a long journey and a hard task but at the end of that journey he loves her so much that he sacrifices the world for her. The game ends there. Joel never tells Ellie how much he cares for her but the player knows because actions speak louder than words. You are left knowing that your entire mission to save the world was for nothing but that Ellie is safe which is more important and Joel has found the ability to love again. It is a bitter sweet ending but there is definitely light in the darkness.

Juxtapose this onto the last of us 2 a sequel which was always going to be judged next to the themes and story of it's predecessor. This is a petty revenge plot. There is no higher purpose. There is no saving the world. There is no character development. There is nothing but a shallow revenge story where the character Ellie you know and love from the first game degenerates into a cold, angry, 1 dimensional person who is an **** to everyone including the people she is supposed to care about most.

Remember when I said actions speak louder than words? Ellie abandons everyone she is supposed to care about, degenerating from the character we knew and loved from the first game into a unlikable ****.

This is a story driven game based upon relationships where the protagonist is dead and the light in the darkness has become cold, shallow and can't express a single emotion to the people closest to her. Maybe the other characters will take up the mantle and carry the story, relationships and character development. What do you think Dina?... Dina? I challenge anyone to name a single character trait that Dina has which sets her apart. Every new character you are introduced to in this game is shallow and generic. You barely care when they are unceremoniously executed.

...but wait let's spend the next 10 hours playing as someone we hate and get to know people that we know are already dead. I bet that'll be interesting. It's not. It's a waste of 10 hours. This entire game is a waste of time. It's a 22 hour long story driven game with a cookie cutter 1 dimensional shallow revenge plot but it's defining feature and what sets it apart from every other generic revenge plot is that the protagonist doesn't get revenge. How exquisite is that? the genius of storytelling is immeasurable. You spent 22 hours with nothing better to do than kill somebody and at the end you can't even do that because reasons or something. The game doesn’t know what it wants to be. A real depiction of humans and the evil we can do. Or a soft story about forgiveness. I wouldn’t mind the latter if they didn’t make me kill everyone I met and made me actually like the characters. Instead the game wants to be both while failing at both.

People can’t get mad when a story that’s dear to their heart doesn’t go the way they wanted, that’s is what a great game is all about. Ground breaking twist during the game that hurt but also drive you to resolve a terrible situation makes a player feel mentally vested.
Joel dying sucks badly (broke my heart) but that’s the way the story was meant to play out, I wish Ella would have had time to say goodbye to Joe but the fact that Ellie didnt just fuels a raging fire in her for revenge.
I hated the Abby portion of the game at first but when you start to understand the mental and physical trauma she endured fires you an understanding of why you killed Joel is such brutal way.
I’m about 10 hours in and I feel I’m not only playing a great game, but I’m reading a great book and watching a great movie, all at once. That at the end if today drive me to give it a 10/10 rating

Gameplay and mechanics are 9/10 (to slow to aim your gun) Graphics and sound are 10/10

Storyline: when I played Ella and was given her background ever more it made me love. Playing Abby sucked for hours but when you started getting her backstory it made me enjoy playing through her store.

All in all. One of the best games ever produced

    1. Graphics - pleasing to the eye
    2. Gameplay - is interesting and varied. I personally used almost the entire arsenal that I had.
    3. History - is not so simple with that. You will understand this, as the developers planned, only when you start looking at Ellie from a different perspective.
introducing a new game character is very risky, but Naughty Dog were able to show and reveal the character very well! If you look at him not biased!
    4. Character growth - Yes! in contrast to the first part.
So to enjoy the game, you need to play on high difficulty and not be biased to follow the story itself and consider the characters from a different angle.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ellie hates Joel because He killed the cicadas at the end of the first part. Abby hates Joel, because he killed the father of the surgeon. Now Ellie hates Abby. You have understood that violence begets violence. Neil Drakman says that Joel is to blame, but if you remember the end of the first part, there Ellie was unconscious after a massacre with infected and cicadas come, which knock out Joel, put Ellie on the table and want to operate. Again, Neil Drakman says that only Abby's father could have made the medicine, but he died. If you remember the agreement between Joel and Marlin that he takes Ellie to the hospital, and they give him weapons, but as soon as he came to the hospital, the cicadas were ready to kill him, but Marlin intervened and he was told that he would be released, without guns of course. The cicadas could explain everything, give Ellie a choice.. But all the blood is from the cicadas.
Destroyed as for me the normal ending of the first part, the fact that Ellie found out the truth in the hospital, was depressed and then was an ordinary person, who did not know that she was imunna. But then Joel plays Golf with Abby, realizes that he was still dear to her and goes to kill Abby's friends. In the first part, Tommy was a very good character and kind, but in the second part, he is the complete opposite, promises Ellie that they will go together to take revenge, but secretly leaves. The plot is so straightforward - she remembers everyone in the room and slowly kills everyone and everything is so simple that no new name will appear among her enemies. Then comes the third day when Abby is aiming at Ellie and the game is running out of time and we are already behind Abby. Dogs and Cultists howl at each other, and why ? Because Abby doesn't care what or why and just ignores it. She doesn't care that the dogs torture the cultists, she doesn't care that the Cultists kill the dogs, and so it looks ridiculous that the Renegade Cultists save her and she gets so attached to them that she kills the dogs, but the dogs have saved her life more than once. Why she decided to throw the dogs, where there is everything and go with these cultists-and did not explain normally. She doesn't even try to understand their feelings, they don't mean any harm, and Abby goes and cuts them all out. She is loyal to her Cicada friends, but she also wanted to kill Denny. We don't know much about Abby's friends. Three are killed off-screen, Nora in a couple of frames, Leah too, and Manny is just a cable. What do they have in common, why are they loyal to Abby ? Vaguely. Abby has no character, no motivation, no conflation while playing for her. All Abby's desires and conflicts end during the prologue, when she played Golf with Joel. There is a love triangle between Abby, Mel and Owen, but until the evening of the third day, it is not connected with the events that are happening at all. Krch for 10 hours of playing for Abby is terrible because it is very, very boring.. Abby does not kill Ellie and says that she got out of her eyes, but Ellie still finds Abby in trouble and will go to battle, win, forgive and let go on all four sides.
It would be better if the first part was the last game on tlou.

Yes this game is the most polarizing game but it didn't sucked. Gameplay is superb and the graphics are amazing as well. After completing the game I felt empty like there's a question in my head "was the story great or was it a disappointment"? I am feeling like this wasn't a good story nor a bad story but it was tragic not the way people wanted. It was emotional. Some are just blindly judging the game based on the leaks and some just don't care about anything. I saw the leaks and the full experience was worth. Joel's death was really tragic and sad but I still enjoyed the game. All these negative comments are just not justifiable. Most of the negative reviews are from those who didn't even played the game yet review bombing it. I don't know what else to say it's just I'm feeling empty. This game will be on my mind for a long time. I hope naughty dog makes a 3rd part or even a 4th part which will be a proper conclusion to this wonderful franchise. I will gladly play these games. Please naughty dog ignore the hate you guys are amazing and you know that. You have shown your qualities before and you will show it again. Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
