The first game to ever make me feel sadness in the last boss fight.
The order of the flashbacks or the story in general could have been a better, but I appreciate how they made me sympathise with Abby and Ellie.

I have never felt so emotionally engaged in a game before, I highly recommend it, but need to have an open mind and let the story play out, instead of trying to fight it. Brilliant game!!

The story doesn't play out how I would have wanted it to go (I would have loved more time on the road with Joel and the older Ellie), but considering the direction the writers felt they needed to go, it's a very impressive and gut-wrenching story. I've never been affected emotionally by a game like I was by this one.

Gameplay wise, it's nothing groundbreaking (save for the animations), but it's very fun and tense. And it's all wrapped up in superlative graphics and sound design.

I dont mind the fact that joel died its just the way the killed him just made me hat the story and the fact that you play as ellie and travel across the country kill so many people but you find the person responsible for Joel’s death but you let them go and i hate the fact that you play more as abby than ellie Expand

There is no real resolution between the two protagonists which is unfortunate and makes the ending fall flat compared to the first game. Expand

Another issue I noticed seems related the (aggressive) motion blur, causing a weird effect on the top of the screen when rotating camera fast in some scenarios, almost like a screen tearing. Turning down the effect to 5/10 seems to have helped a bit.

    Story/Character review: Score 8/10
Whether you like the story or not its a MATTER OF PERSONAL TASTE.
The studio's vision definitely didn't match what I expected for a sequel, but it doesn't make it a bad thing at all, everyone is entitled to an opinion, and they could only make one story, from their own minds.
The one thing I didn't like much is that they tried too much to pull some things and cause game to be boring at times.
Character progression exists and it is an important part of the whole thing. However, I feel that the characters lack charisma.

This is one of the best games I have ever played with the most tense story I've ever experienced in a video game. I genuinely don't understand the people who dislike the story, as it's a constant barrage of drama and tension that pulls on your heartstrings from start to finish. If you like realistic stories told without pandering to an audience's expectations, whims, and/or desires, this game is perfect.

The only small complaints I have with this game, which I also have with the first game, is the way the way it tries to force jump scares. Both this game and the first have a "listening" ability, which outlines creatures, and an ability to throw a bottle or brick to make noise. For whatever reason, the listening ability will frequently not show enemies that are actually there in order for the game to "get you" with a jump scare. These scares feel very cheap and, to stress, this is also the biggest flaw of the first game. If you didn't mind it in the first game, you won't mind it now. Just know, if you're not the best with scary games, that may be an issue.

Besides that small issue, this is the prettiest game I've ever played with some of the best performances and one of the best stories I've ever consumed. Absolutely recommended.

Ignore all the negative reviews. The game and storyline is epic! Twist and turns and completely engaging. Play the first game so you understand the characters. Foks that are upset by the story probably are thinking surface-level and not paying attention to all of the details and underlying character dilemmas throughout the game. LOVE LAST OF US! Cannot wait for the TV Series!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game would have gotten a 4 maybe 5 out of 10, but it is so bad that i couldn’t even finish my new game+. I beat it on survivor so there are some pretty tough parts that are challenging. It seemed more like a chore to play the game as I had wasted 60 dollars on it with a digital pre order. I couldn’t go through the story a second time. It’s just so bad. There is so much wasted potential with the game. The game is horrible so much that I didn’t even want to play the first one anymore. I took time to download the first one then thought what is the point of even playing it. That’s how bad this game is. It has completely ruined the entire franchise. I cannot even play the first the last of us. The story made me cringe. The love triangles were not necessary. The choices people made are bad, Mel being pregnant. I think they could have done a way better job with the story. Graphics are nice, gameplay is good but sometimes a little glitchy where I couldn’t see the NPCs or they randomly show up in front of me. There were times when I would be sneaking and get noticed by someone not there. It makes that weird sound when your spotted that happened so many times that made me think who the f*** spotted me. Also the dodge command seemed to be broken. I would press it and nothing happened next thing I know I’m getting shredded by a runner. Gameplay could have been better. I wanted to give 5/10 but just can’t because as I was writing this i remembered all the BS i was put through with mechanics. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I totally understand why lots of people dislike the game. Just like many, when I was playing it through and it switched to Abby, I had a very sour view of it all. Some, as well as myself, regard the first Last of Us game as the one of the best played. In the first game, we fell in love with the characters and especially the chemistry between both Joel and Ellie. And like a massive punch in the gut, we had to watch Joel suddenly seem out of character in helping Abby and was pummeled with a golf club in the first two-three hours of the game. I was distraught and utterly disappointed. However throughout TLOU2, it made me feel. It was an experience where I was in the shoes of both Ellie and Abby. With everything the game illustrated about the revenge cycle, it made me realize as much as I wanted Ellie to kill Abby ... it would’ve made no difference. The last fight between both Ellie and Abby made me feel extremely uncomfortable, and I was finally able to see Ellie was absolutely entrenched in her own guilt of losing Joel through the whole journey. Right when Ellie was about to start up her father-daughter relationship with Joel again, Joel murdered the next day. To this, the utilization of the central song (“If I ever were to lose you ...”) almost wraps the whole journey of Ellie’s together. In the final moments of the game, I was able to feel how lost and empty Ellie must have felt. Sure. It wasn’t an experience I was expecting. Initially, it wasn’t one I was enjoying either. I would’ve instantly loved it if the game went as I expected. But, happily ever after was never what TLOU was about. Though we fell in love with Joel and Ellie, the first game made us oblivious to what was happening outside of a certain scope. Seeing into Abby’s story was a slap in the face. But for me, it was almost needed in order to understand the world outside of Ellie and Joel’s relationship. Most of us agree that the visuals and the game mechanics were stunning. And props to Naughty Dog for all the accessibility options. I rated it a 10 because I’ve never had such an experience with a game before. It’s a bitter game but it’s one where I really understood and soberly felt what Ellie was going through. Expand

Its not perfect, I could have done without the target practice 15 hours in, its a little bit bloated at times. But what this game achieves on so many levels will be a point of comparison for all AAA games for years to come. What the narrative does with a simple revenge plot is incredible, and uses the medium of games in ways that no movie ever could.
