A key moment to actually prove that gaming journalists are either paid for giving good reviews.
The game itself is clusterf... of a story that only one man likes; the creator.
    Technically it's ok.
I don't we ever will see a game reviewed so differently between users (real gamers) and sellout journalists.

Visuals swing wildly between truly breathtaking environments to horrendous abominations with the character models / Mocap. We might have actually found the lowest point of the uncanny valley here. Quite an achievement, being more jarring - not worse you must understand. Technically it's all very well put together it's just so much more unsettling - than Mass Effect Andromeda.

But the story is where we really struggle. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but the story is terrible. Every beat of this story reads like someone who wants to prove what a big clever boy they are. It's a basic "If you seek revenge dig two graves" story, filtered though the eyes of someone who thinks they have something clever or original to say. They don't. They really, really don't.

You know when a writer wants to prove that their story has depth, so they fill it with pointless unnecessary character death because "Death makes it deep!" (Think "Xmen The Last Stand"). That is the closest thing to an original idea in this story. It's just one long slog through misery porn because someone never learned there are other was to have a real emotional moment in a story.

This is not Aeris' death in FFVII.

This is not Johns death at the end of RDR

This is Luigi coming up to Mario and saying "Mario, I have-a the AIDS" and Mario looking direct into the camera and saying "Mama Mia! AIDS is-a Bad!" while a single tear roles down his cheek.

The writers think they're saying something important or unique about revenge, but I can't hear it over the sound of their own fart sniffing.

Sorry to harp on about the story, but I cannot emphasise enough the shallow cynical trash this story is. It actively lessens the story of all other Naughty Dog games. Jak and Daxter is a worse game now for being connected to the company that made TLOU2.

This games gets 1 point from me because there has been some real talent involved in some elements of the game (Again, the environments are beautiful) but for the rest of this game? I deeply regret that I had to spend my own money on this game.

I could name quite some examples but take death stranding as the most recent one before this.

I think the people who create games like these have chosen the wrong medium. They want to be directors and therefore fail to deliver what I call a true Game. If I want to watch a great drama I start Netflix and not my console...

The point why these games get insanely high critic scores is that the people who do nothing else but play video games each day, all year round as a job become more and more like art critics who are bored by the art. The yearn for something freaky ,fancy, unexpected and games like last of us are a welcoming change in their routine. But like art critics who go nuts about a painting that shows little less then black stripes on white canvas they lost their connection to the casual guy next door and what he likes.
The last of us part II is more a video then a game and instead of being fun to play it needs to shock you to get your attention, in my opinion, a cheap tactic.
Test it for an hour before you buy this, probably it will help you to save money that you can spent on a real video GAME.

This game is the bravest act ever done from a publisher like Naugty dog in this case. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Firstly, I think the negative reviews have such low scores as a result of the INSANE 10/10 critic scores. SPOILERS* This isn't a 10/10 game, not even close and no human in their right mind could think so. The game plays beautifully, looks stunning but leaves you feeling totally unfulfilled and empty. Its a shallow and medeocre experience. This is mainly due to the torture and killing of one half of the most beloved partnership in video games early in the game. We are then forced to play as the perpetrator of this act... To say I wasn't particularly interested in keeping said person alive was an understatement. Nothing that ND & ND did subsequently to this could undo the hatred I had for that character. If anything we should have played Abby from the start, allow to build a report with her, understand her motivations before the brutal killing we are forced to witness. This would then bring the two sets of characters together and justify the games story tangent. This is only part of what is a disjointed affair at best. Drawn out and poorly thought through. I think ND and ND have underestimated how beloved their characters were with everyone who played the first game. This game destroys all of that goodwill. This game turns characters we cared about into revenge zombies, as mindless as those infected we are forced to ENDLESSLY kill. As the game concludes we are left caring about nobody. Do I want a sequel? Maybe, if they can somehow rehabilitate Ellie and allow her some redemption. Otherwise, leave your crackpot ideas at home Neil Druckmann, you have managed to ruin a beloved franchise, where were the dissenting voices at Naughty Dog, surely there were people who disagreed with this suicidal direction? Was it worth 7 years of waiting?? Nope, it really wasn't. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm going to get the incredible characteristics of this game out of the way.
There is no doubt in my mind that this may be the most stunning video game I have ever played.

    - The graphics are out of this world,
    - The audio design is complex and atmospheric
    - The voice acting was phenomenally done by a group of incredibly talented actors.
    - The environment has an engrossing allure to it that makes made me feel like I was truly there.

However, there are a few fascinatingly apparent flaws that I will not get out of the way: storytelling and character development.

In a game franchise such as The Last Of Us, the graphics and audio design is hardly anything compared to the impact the story has on the player. There are far too many shallow characters, plot holes, timeline shifts, and unnecessary plot points for this game to exceed the gaming industry with the same success shown by the first game. Not to mention the horrific choice made for Ellie in the ending. Here are a few notable mentions:

Con #1) Why does Ellie's anger show no recollection or representation as seen in The Last Of Us 1? When Ellie was faced with situations in which she needed to defend Joel, she killed everybody in the way. No questions asked. But in this game, when Ellie finally has her chance to avenge him, how the hell did Naughty Dog decide that Ellie no longer had a hatred towards Abby after she receives a flashback of Joel's brutally bloodied head? Because Ellie felt for Abby? Because she thought if she killed Abby she would be doing Joel wrong? Did we forget this game was about Ellie's revenge? All of Abby's friends were murdered, she killed Ellie's friends with no hesitation. All of Ellie's friends were murdered, yet she doesn't feel the need for revenge, the entire point of this plot. Now some may argue that this is an act of Ellie maturing and understanding the consequences of her actions. To me, that is a load of BS. Ellie has made many choices in this game that stray so far from her as a character that it almost feels like a different person.

    - Con #2) Abby, alongside many of the new characters in this game, have absolutely NO depth in any way. The only characters I really felt for were the ones shown in the previous game, I wonder why that is. Naughty Dog tried unbearably hard to introduce "the other side of the story" to show that Joel had it coming for him. Was that "other side of the story" even remarkably moving or reasonable? Absolutely. Not. Why were we given so much time with Abby to understand who she is and her relationship with her friends and father yet not a single hour of it was enjoyable or justifiable? There were 100% zero sympathies I felt towards this girl. So not unless you give me a Last Of Us Part II dedicated to why we should care about this Abby girl or why her story even remotely convinces me that killing Joel in the way she did was okay, I'm going to say this is a case of a disastrous narrative and Abby is garbage excuse for an antagonist/main character.

Con #3) I'm not even going to explain how horrendous the writing is in some of these side-characters. The number of plot holes that are accompanying them makes me want to throw up just as many times as Dina did. I will say that the story seems engaging when you are playing through Ellie's POV and there aren't any cutscenes to ruin it...
The fact that I need to say that the best part of the game was playing through the museum flashback two years prior to the events of the main plotline with Ellie and Joel shows just how unenjoyable the game really was for me.

Naughty Dog put so much effort into trying to show us that we were the true bad guys yet non of that effort had a single ounce of pay off. If you want us to fall in love with your new characters the same way we fell in love with the original ones, give us more time, please. Give us the depth and development that Joel and Ellie and Tommy have. One of the main reasons Abby even exists was that she was a perfect way to introduce the idea of gender fluidity, LGBTQ+, and independent femininity into a video game. But it just wasn't necessary. All-in-all my main gripe about this game is that some of the best writers in video game history have somehow messed up what was 7 years of anticipation and hype for one of the worst stories I have ever experienced.

I will be giving this game a 3/10 sheerly out of pity for the incredible artists, sound designers, animators, and voice actors who put so much work in to hard carry the writers that developed this tragedy.
So how can I put this lightly? If you have the money to purchase this game, put that money into something else, and walk away. And to those who have already played the game or have watched a playthrough, I am so sorry. You and I are gonna take a deep breath and pretend this didn't happen. Deal? Deal.

The first of these is a lot of twists in the plot, I never thought that with a very good character they could do that. Secondly, the game for Abby alerted me, it is very long and boring. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really can't describe how much of a joke this game turned out to be. Seven year wait with a lot of hype surrounding it. Everyone grew to love Joel and Ellie together, and their father/daughter relationship. Then after all these years you release it, the sequel to a truly great game. Within two hours Joel dies like a **** rat, nothing heroic, nothing smart, no sacrifice, just cold brutal ****

I think everyone knew that Joel was going to die at some point in the game, but within 2 hours of a twenty some hour game, damn. And they have the **** audacity to have us play as the **** who shot his leg with a shotgun, tortured him for several hours and then ending his life infront of Ellie with a **** golf club to the skull. That right there should have been where I stopped playing.

The slog fest that is the Abby(Joel killer) storyline lasts for 10+ hours, even if you rush it which you probably will do, since they **** ended Ellie's gameplay on a cliffhanger with Abby about to shoot her, after she has just came to kill Ellie. I can't even make this up, they force you to play Abby's storyline to make you humanize her, but all you can think about is Ellie and the **** cliffhanger. Like who in their right mind gives a flying **** about Abby after you see her beating the **** out of your favorite characters from the earlier game?

I want to wrap this up, since it's actually way too much stuff to be said. Basically Ellie moves away to a farm with Dina and her baby, far away from everything. She is suffering from PTSD and nightmares about Joel dying. So she sets out to find and kill Abby, again. You find her tied up and dying, you are also dying. You fight, she bites off two of your fingers, you hold her under water to drown her, but you don't kill her. She drives off in a boat with her kid to join fireflies and attempt to have a good life.

Ellie returns to the farm to find the house abandoned. Ellie sits down and plays on the guitar Joel gave her, it sounds like **** cause she misses to fingers, she puts it down, camera pans to window where we see Ellie walking into the horizon. Leaving the only thing she had after Joel died, music. She lost her **** girlfriend and Dina's kid, basically Ellie's kid, and **** Tabby is seemingly living her best life in a town of 200+ people. Roll credit. **** this game. DO NOT BUY IT
