Honestly one of the best, if not the best game I have played. Negative reviews are not at all a accurate picture on this masterpiece. It is definitely game of the year material and not an easy game to stomach, but stick through it and you'll have a game that lasts you a lifetime and make you question any decision you make.

As in life, each story has its protagonists and villains. Each and everyone of us are protagonists of our own stories.

Ellie is not the hero. Abby is not the villain. Vice versa. This game made us sympathize with both sides of the coin and showed us that there isn't right or wrong. Characters can be controversial, and that's the beauty of the character development in this universe

Characters can be controversial, and that's the beauty of the character development in this universe (TLoU1, Left Behind, and TLoU2). People ARE controversial. Naughty Dog got the guts to do that in such an amazing way, felt like a slap to the face. This is a game about hate, how it leads to nothing, and its never ending cycle.

No need to say anything about gameplay, graphics, soundtrack, acting, environment, and how the gameplay makes us feel the characters' feelings.

Such an unique experience. 10 out of 10.

    1. They are unable to play a game that does not have a happy ending or make you feel warm and fuzzy inside. Your typical Vegetale type.

    2. They are bigoted towards LGBT and cannot stand playing a character that is queer. Your typical good 'ole boy or closeted type.

    3. They have not actually played the game. Your typical internet troll type.

If you don't fall into these categories, do yourself a favor and play this game.

Yes I was sad about Joel’s death but at the same time the game would have been really boring just being in Jackson and going out doing stuff. I think them killing Joel they opened it for more content and a better story line. They could probably even continue it now and make the story line go further. I was also sad to see they switched out Joel from trailers and game play they originally had for him.It had really emotional parts and really adrenaline rushing parts. It was all over a really good game, it could have been a lot worse after he died but they made it really intriguing and fun. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After the first game, many fans debated whether Joel was in fact the true villain of The Last of Us - saving Ellie but preventing any chance of a vaccine being created to help humankind in the post apocalyptic world they live in. We sympathise with Joel's decision because we spent an entire game sharing his experiences with Ellie and if we were in his shoes who is to say we wouldn't have made the same decision (as Tommy says at the beginning of Part 2).

In The Last of Us Part 2 we get to see the aftermath of Joel's actions from the perspective of his victims - Abby finds her father killed along with all other fireflies that crossed Joel's path in the hospital. If we had never seen Joel and Ellie's journey I'm sure we would be rooting for Abby's revenge story but because we didn't, a lot of gamers straight up refused to see or accept Abby's reasons for wanting to kill Joel. Who wouldn't want to get revenge on the man who killed their father?

I was truly gutted that Joel died so early on in the game and it was a difficult scene to watch. However, it is a major plot device that propels Ellie into her revenge rampage in Seattle. I enjoyed the flashback scenes with Joel showing how he had settled down in Jackson County and trying to repair his deteriorating relationship with Ellie after the events of the first game. In Joel's last flashback scene with Ellie they both agree to wanting to move forward, with Ellie prepared to try and forgive Joel. Tragically, by the time this scene is shown, we know that will be the last time they speak.

The game contrasts Abby and Ellie's revenge stories well, showing Abby succeed but not stopping the pain of losing her father so she focuses her life by helping Lev. Ellie had the chance to be happy; she had a home, Dina and baby JJ but her PTSD and a push from Tommy set her off again. I've seen many comments that Tommy's actions here are completely out of character but at this point he had lost so much - Joel, witnessing Jesse's death, his relationship with Maria, his eye and now left with restricted mobility, so why wouldn't he be hell-bent on revenge? Tommy current state of mind here is similar to where Ellie was after Joel's death.

Ellie had already lost Dina and JJ the moment she left to kill Abby again, so even if she had succeeded she would still be left with nothing afterwards; Ellie breaks the cycle of revenge and the characters have a chance to move on to try and find some happiness. I've seen more comments saying this is out of character for Ellie (just like the early Tommy comments I mentioned) and that she had no problem killing all those people in Seattle, but I believe she was too blinded by revenge to stop and see what was happening and that she was basically doing what Joel did at Salt Lake City Hospital. It's not until she has the chance to finally kill Abby that an image of Joel playing his guitar appears in her head - this is significant because since his death, Ellie had been unable to remember his face (as depicted in Ellie's journal with drawings of Joel's distorted face) but for the first time since then, Joel's face finally appears to her. Ironically, if Ellie had not left Dina and JJ at the farm, Abby would have most likely died at the hands of the Rattlers along with Lev, so in reality Ellie saved their lives.

Upon returning to the empty farm, it is shown that Ellie can no longer play the guitar due to losing some fingers in the final battle with Abby, losing yet another connection she had with Joel. Ellie's greatest fear that she shared with Sam in the first game was to end up alone and her need for revenge saw that come true at the end of this game.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but just because it didn't go how you wanted it to it doesn't make it a bad game. I personally preferred the first instalment but Part 2 decides to take a different route rather than mirroring it's predecessor (not to mention introducing some greatly improved gameplay features), keeping it fresh and further exploring revenge, forgiveness and the consequences of actions in a post apocalyptic world.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I flat out loved this game! Honestly, I think there a couple genuine flaws I'll admit to. The game does tend to drag missions on just barely pass expiration dates sometimes (but usually this is allayed by still having a helluva culmination to the mission waiting for ya!). I also feel that as much as the switch works for me, interspersing the character switches throughout the game might have helped some others better empathize with Abby and feel for her. I still found myself torn between the two characters even as they attempted to murder one another, but I suppose I can see where others are coming from. Now, looking pass that, I pretty much just see gold.
Going back to what I said earlier, I feel a large point of the game was to feel the cycle of revenge from both perspectives, to recognize yourself as Ellie playing almost the villain of the story and that really hit home for me, taking advantage of the growing discomfort the game had been building with Ellie's actions to slam it home by having us walk our killing grounds and interacting with our future victims.
This sympathy got further enforced with Ellie on that farm, unable to cope with Joel's death and move on, allowing us to really feel the life Joel had left Abby with for years.
It used this empathy to ultimately foster a sense of forgiveness towards both this game's protagonists as well as for Joel. So, more so than the goal of revenge, that forgiveness proved to be the thing Ellie needed. Not for Abby, though I think she came as close to it as possible, but for Joel and herself.
Don't worry, I already know how masturbatory this review sounds lol

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
