Best generation game ever. sound design, visual design, compacts mechanics, environmental design, and accessibility was really masterpiece and outstanding from Naughty Dog. Phenomenal work of arts and engineering has been delivered in this game. Story line and music choices compared with first part its not that quality, but still very good in a way or other. Very good job

This game is honestly a 10. I finished it and i'm currently replaying on survivor+. and I NEVER replay single player games but my experience with this game is very different than other story driven games.

I strongly disagree with people who say the story telling is bad. I love the subtle details that i am noticing in my second play through that tie the present and the flashbacks together (like when Ellie finds a guitar in the theatre, she flashes back to birthday). Yes its linear and there isn't much choice, but I like it this way, because they wanted their story to be told as they intended . Its supposed to evoke all emotions but wants you to understand the viewpoints from each side. I think they did a hell of a job to achieve this and glad they took a non mainstream approach to the ending/story.

Gameplay is smooth and very challenging when playing on higher difficulty. AI seems dependent on your location and thus they take different routes. I like the addition of dogs but still hate killing them lol

Graphically this game should definitely win awards. Everything is stunning, even the props.

BRAVO Naughty Dog and Neil Druckmann 10/10

lets be honest. for such a narrative heavy driven game, ND decides to kill off a beloved character just to move the plot. im only not giving it a 0 for the game play improvement. But having marketing tlou2 as ellie story is misleading. Side characters are bland and the force of using violence and no 2nd choice to avoid violence is awful. congrats ND you made a very divisive game and alets be honest. for such a narrative heavy driven game, ND decides to kill off a beloved character just to move the plot. im only not giving it a 0 for the game play improvement. I'll be quick, I was excited to play this game and the skill trees and gameplay mixed with the brutal combat did bring some enjoyment to the game.. however the story completely destroys what the game could have been, none of the characters act the way they should and it seems like the creator wanted to make the game shocking just to be shocking. From Joel dying in the very of the beginning of the game in a way contrary to the way we all know he acts, to Ellie going on a long revenge hunt to not even get revenge and leaving the game feeling empty and full of holes. I wont ruin any more than that if you want to play it you should but lower your standards, I'd honestly wait for a sale Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Technically impeccable, gameplay more of the same which is spectacular, but it is unfortunate what they did with the characters' personality. Sad at what they turned to Ellie. I'm not homophobic but I don't want to play with a woman with a man's arms (Abby). Another thing, the people at Naughty Dog forgot that a game WILL NEVER BE A MOVIE. Putting sex scenes was RIDICULOUS !!! If I could ask for my money back I certainly would. I will think and research well before buying any game from this company again. Expand

Yet here I am, writing my second ever review and it's just to say one thing... this sequel topped it. It's a game that will stay with me for the rest of my life. The emotional journey only works when played through in its entirety. Just like with the original, this is a game that needs to be played start to finish for it to work as well as it does. I find it sad some people are so hard set against opening themselves to experiencing this game as it was intended. I admit there were points in my own play-through where I was telling myself there's no way they can pull off what I think they are trying to accomplish.

    I was so wrong.

We could explore the relationship between adult Ellie and Joel and we will never get that again. All because the writers were so desperate to subvert expectations and feed us a bad story and at the same time boast about their horrible writing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game gets a lot right. The environments, the lighting, the sound...all these things are absolutely stunning.
Unfortunately the story and characters are the foundation of this franchise and they are just not strong enough to support it.
My big problem with this game is how inconsistent it is with the first game’s tone and themes. It doesn’t feel like the second half of The Last of Us story; it feels like a different game by a different studio that incorporates elements of the first game without really understanding what made the first game so special.
The first game clearly established that this is a dangerous world. People die frequently and even finding safety in a QZ doesn’t mean a quiet life. It is harsh and overbearing. People just try to get by. Joel’s journey across the country with Ellie makes sense because of the extraordinary hope she represents for a cure. The player believes the characters’ motivations.
The characters in Part II seem unconcerned by the dangers of the outside. Abby travels over 800 miles from Seattle to Jackson with several companions simply to get revenge on the man who killed her dad 5 years ago. Ellie then travels back to Seattle with Dina to get revenge on Abby and co. No character ever acknowledges that these journeys are incredibly dangerous and nobody tries to convince Ellie that it’s a bad idea. It stretches believability to breaking point and the game is only a few hours in at this point.
Believability is actually a consistent issue throughout this game. So many times I just didn’t buy that the characters would be doing whatever it is they’re doing. Abby, who we are told is the WLF’s “top Scar killer” spends two days travelling all over Seattle to save the lives of two Scar teenagers who saved her life the day before. We frequently see Abby be disparaging about the Scars and even when she is risking her life to travel with Lev for life-saving medical supplies, she keeps using the term Scar even though he keeps correcting her to the less offensive ‘Seraphite’. It’s contradictory - we are supposed to believe that Abby cares enough about these two kids that she’ll risk her life to save them, yet she is apparently indifferent enough that she will keep insulting Lev with the term ‘Scar’. This is just one example of many where the characters’ actions don’t make sense. It gets worse to the point that Abby is willing to start killing lots of WLF members just to save Lev as she is, apparently, - after spending a few hours with him - so attached to Lev that she will totally abandon the safety and community she has with the WLF to begin an uncertain life with him. Again, makes no sense, and the game doesn’t try to justify it.
The dialogue is also in serious need of attention. The first game used subtext very effectively and allowed the player a lot of room to infer what the characters were thinking. This approach, which gave us beautiful lines of dialogue in the first game, is abandoned in Part II. The conversations are usually bland, trite and forgettable. Characters say things that feel out of step with where they are and what they’re doing. The lines just feel too ‘on the nose’ and, when compared to the first game, stick out like a sore thumb.
There are other issues too but the ones I’ve listed give you an idea of what this game is all about.
It’s not a *bad* game. It doesn’t deserve 0, 1 or 2 out of 10 but it certainly doesn’t warrant 10 either. My score of 7 reflects the fact that the game is superb in some areas but fails in the most important area - story and characters.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all some backstory. Let me first say i am a brown dude with very high regards for liberal views. Now that out of the way. Also I am a PC gamer bought PS3 just to play GTA 5 back in the days and a friend gave me Uncharted 3 and fell in love with the series and Naughty Dogs storytelling. Bought PS4 and also bought Last of Us for PS3 and remastered for PS4. I still play the game time to time like watching a movie again and again that I like. Now lets get to Last of 2.

Joel Dies : No problem, I knew its was going to be his fate since I first saw the revel trailer in my gut.
How he dies: No problem there, someone taking revenge, he was not a saint
He was stupid: He let his guard down no problem
Lesbian, transgender, leftist messages: No problem, I think they should push more of these so we feel normal the way forward in our diverse real world
Ending: Forgiveness, No problem with that

THE PROBLEM ? : I do not want to play as ABBY, here is the thing I have every single Uncharted game in my collection except the lost legacy. You know why ? Because I do not care about those characters in uncharted universe. When you buy a Part 2 of a story based game you expect a certain things. For me Last of us is about Joel and Ellie like uncharted about Sully and Drake. The story could have remained same but could have been just Eliies part and later added dlc could have shown Abbys part as they shown Ellies part in first games DLC so we could justify the ending in P2 just like in P1. Force playing as Abby and breaking the story like this jumble way really messed up the story. Do not get me wrong I can handle the dark brutal story but not in this messy way. This is not upto the Naughty Dog standards. Somehow I felt cheated, if you want Abbys story you could have made another separate game like lost legacy as well. Another problem is making me feel bad, hey man whoever wrote the story, learn the difference between a dark story and making the audience feel bad forcefully. Telltale Walking Dead following Clementine was a dark story, where Joel like character Lee dies in first season. But this one is just garbage and you feel guiltier than the Walking Dead playing this game.

Gameplay felt very polished and graphic my god it is the most gorgeous graphics I have seen in PS4 to date. Here you can see the Naughty Dog Standard. But I have a PC with 2060 TI GPU which was almost the price of a PS4. I do not play games from Naughty Dogs in PS4 for graphics but for story and experience. And if I have a bad experience and feel bad about my self after playing this game then whats the point.

I do not want to keep this game as I will never play this again and will be selling this to second hand market, I also urge those who bought this do not want to keep sell it to second hand market and flood it. They might have leaked the footage themselves like Thor Ragnarok to create controversy and let the you tubers fired up for free marketing. They sold around four million copies already. Buy it from second hand market guys do not pay them $60, its not worth it and you will not keep it.

Here is what I will do, I will forget about this game soon and pretend it does not exist. Again the difference between Part 1 I have 2 copy of that in my collection in a very safe showcase and this is going to another person for 20-30 droller. Another thing, good luck selling it to me and a lot of angry gamer a remastered version for PS5. This franchise is dead to me over and out.

4/10 for the people who worked day and night to make this **** story into a decent game.

I see what they were trying to do but they could’ve done it so much better and maybe in a less jumbled up way. Graphics are fantastic it’s the story however that was bad. Ellie and Dina, ok pretty cool. Joel dying, not as cool as I’d have wanted it but he had to die. Abby, cool story getting pushed but falls flat most times, forcing you to empathize with her and hate Ellie and Joel. The game, right off the bat, makes you hate Abby and nothing she can do really makes you root for her in a meaningful way. Again, not a bad game, just disappointing. Expand

A game that makes violence not "fun" but more so something you wish you could find an exit from. Also best faces and acting in the game, by far. Masterpiece!

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
