This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Regarding the story, it seems good to me that a dramatic and dark turn has been made, since the same game means that there are neither good nor bad, that the only thing that can be found in the last of us part 2 are points of view and thoughts different from those of the protagonists, do not lie, it hurt me that Joel's death was so fast, but outside of that, the game is really fine, it has a deeper narrative and even the songs that are played in the trailers and in the game they have to do partly for the same story, an example would be true faith, which basically says that ellie's revenge is like a drug, a drug that makes you crazy, and around the game you can to see how Ellie little by little is destroying herself inside and out until she is left alone because of revenge as dyna abandons her and because of Ellie many die.
Regarding the End, it bothered me a little that ellie did not kill abby, but after a few minutes I understood that with that final flashback of joel, ellie realized that even if she kills abby, joel would not return and everything would be the same and the cycle of Vengeance would not end, what ellie does in the End is to act with the head and in the most human way possible, it is at that moment in which there is an explosion of emotions, I feel that this game was made for a more mature perspective and dark, a story that does not focus on the typical, for me the end, as sour as it may be, has seemed to me a good closure for the story of ellie, I know that many do not like the game and directly classify it as rubbish, but really the game is something that we are not used to, and for that reason and its history or gameplay, etc., at least for me it is a good game

I went into this game completely spoiler free, I barely knew when the game was releasing other than knowing it was sometime in June. The fond memories I have of the first game is what drove me to buy this sequel. I'll try to write with a general approach as to not spoil critical moments of the game. Going into this game I expected /something/ like the first game in terms of plot, but most of all I was just curious to see what the future held for Joel and Ellie. When "it" happened (if you've played the game you know what I'm talking about) I all of a sudden had an incentive and I was determined to follow it through. This part of the game also sets the tone for a lot of the game. It's not a happy story. It's quite a sad story about how one's goals can come at the cost of everything you hold dear. Yet, as I finished the game I thought the game could not have had a better ending. It's harrowing, but after the events that occurred throughout the game, I think this ending makes sense for all the characters, and I'm excited to see if there will be a Part 3.

I've noticed some people having trouble with there being themes of LGBTQ+ in the game. I myself was very neutral to this. Having gay characters and trans-characters don't affect my life, or my perception of these characters at all (other than the hardships these characters might've faced due to this, but that's a different topic). Towards the end of the game I became very happy for these characters, their sexuality wasn't even a factor into my being happy for them, just seeing these characters express happiness and love in such a devastating and dystopian setting made me feel genuinely happy and I was touched by this portrayal of companionship. I'm sure it means more to others than it does for me.

I do not want to spoil anything of the plot, as I think not knowing anything prior to playing the game really gave me the truest experience. Having my perspective and mindset challenged by the game was also incredibly interesting. I'd recommend this game based on the story alone and the emotional bonds you create with these fictional characters. It plays like a great book reads.

Other than that, I was astonished by the graphics and the attention to detail in this game. The atmosphere and sound design made me want to pause a few times due to the tension, but I felt it was part of the experience, so I endured.

Will play this game again countless times.

I really loved this game, even though my favorite character ended up dying to the stupid **** i will never feel sympathy for it was a great game. I enjoyed the story, the character development all the flashbacks, and definitely the graphics and game play. I was a little upset with the ending they build up all of this hate and want for revenge and the end only to leave you feeling dissatisfied. despite that, i was an emotional wreck playing this game it was very well put together. And i've heard a lot of hate about ellie being lesbian, people must not have played the first game because it was clearly put in there that she was into girls. All in all i wish they had the game revolve around jole being kidnapped and ellie going to save him instead of killing him off but still a great game at the end of the day Expand

If you understand the story and can understand what they trying to convey with these characters, this game truthfully is a 10/10. They gameplay is immaculate and is full of the most realistic violence you’ve ever seen in a game. The story is so gut wrenching and heartbreaking, but it was the story that needed to be told. I respect the hell out of Naughty Dog for this game, they stepped out of their norm and took a risk. They didn’t just give the fans the same thing from the first one, they gave us the story that we needed. Believe me when I say this IS a masterpiece, regardless of what the haters say. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is everything that was promised. It's brutal, brilliant, forceful, important narrative that addresses issues of pain, regret, anger and hate and their corrosive influences on life and society. It interrogates what it is to be a hero or a villain and deconstructs our childish cultural assumptions about what it is to be either. People review bombing it can suck all of the dicks. They're the same petulant **** who didn't like The Last Jedi because they found their assumptions being challenged by the narrative, the very thing that great art is supposed to do.

I'd be willing to bet a Confederate flag or two that a decent chunk of the hate this game has received from melt minded one handed typers is because they ditched the middle aged white male protagonist for a diverse band of superbly drawn non stereotypes that did just as well. All this anger because your favourite character dies. That's what stories do. All this, despite the fact that Joel spends the rest of the game present anyway, floating around in Ellie's memory like some sort of sexy omniscient god. Or maybe it's the confusion about which character is trans? Must be the muscly one? Right?

**** knows. All I know is that it's only insanity or being extremely hard of understanding that could make you put this game at anything lower than a 9.

Fantastic game! Beautiful graphics with wonderfully detailed environments and characters. The gameplay is better than ever, with more ways to approach every encounter than part 1. The story is a great tale of revenge. What make both games so special is that the story does not care about your feelings. Naughty Dog has a story they want to tell and they don't care if it upsets a few people.

All the hate and negative reviews are just a testimony as to how brilliant the first game was and how beloved Joel and Ellie were. TLOU has already demonstrated us the studio's ability to throw curve balls and poke the Amygdala but part 2 proves that they can also put you on your wit’s end by forcing you to make impossible decisions and then leaving you perplexed making you question yourself if it was morally correct. I sincerely believe naughty dog really outdid themselves and the whole industry with this part by crafting something that captures the true marrow of what we as humans are and can be. I think that the developers have transcended the idea of what a game should be and can be. They have democratized the characters and made them more humane, susceptible to everything a real-life person is. As for the characters, they are as real and raw now as they can be. Instead of the usual hero- villain roles the boundaries are blurred and marred with some much blood and gore that the roles become interchangeable and almost indistinguishable. The inspiration from GTA5 and Until Dawn is evident but the stories intertwingling with such complexity that both Abbey and Ellie become the opposite sides of the same coin.
I believe it is the kind of game that cannot be enjoyed with a preoccupied mind and a personal bias, with the expectations of a positive, cheerful and uplifting story like the last game. TLOU was the story of Joel exploring the themes of love, compassion and hope when everything around was miserable and bleak, TLOU2 is the opposite, Ellie exploring the feelings of revenge, hatred and above else guilt, even when everything around is in order, when everyone around is as loving as they can be. It is about coming to terms with everything that they had either done or witnessed. Above all it is a mature coming of age story in a post-apocalyptic world. It is the kind of game that will act as a milestone for all future games in terms of emotional depth and driving themes. It is the epitome of how deep into the void video games can descend. I feel betrayed not by the game but by the so-called loyal fans of the series. Life is not always fair and not everyone gets what they desire or deserve. The decision to depict that distress must have been hard for the studio itself but they did it anyways because they felt that it was the right thing to do and that is something not many people out there are prepared to make.
I sincerely believe most of the criticism is just unjust and is there because the game was spoiled for much of the fanbase. As for the complaints regarding all the agenda pushing, I believe it’s all a matter of double standards, on one side people laude unreleased games like Cyberpunk for its inclusivity but they harshly criticize TLOU2 for the same. And it was not as if it was done in a Rowling way, everyone who had played Left Behind already knew what was in store.
Making a generic storyline, with a happily lived ever after ending would have been more commercially successful and would have been in straighter alignment with the wider expectations. We all know it would have been a great commercial success and would have easily found its way into many of the year’s top games lists, but that would have been a commercial victory not an artistic one. I sincerely thank God that naughty dog decided otherwise. True artists please themselves not others and TLOU2 is artistic vision realized impeccably.

I was so disgusted by Joel’s death and I intensely wanted Abby dead. As soon as you play as her I knew they would try and make me have empathy for her. I didn’t think it was possible but I eventually grew to like her to the point I no longer wanted her dead. Think about it, if there was no TLOUS 1 or backstory to Joel or Ellie then people would hate them for they did to Abby. I’m glad Ellie let go before the acts she committed destroyed her completely. I do wish that Ellie found some kind of happiness and meaning in the end though and I hope that’s the focus if there’s a DLC or continuation of the story Expand

The story is BRUTAL and it often elicited emotions that made me genuinely uncomfortable, but the payoff was super cathartic. The gameplay felt great, it has everything good from the first one and a few added mechanics that made fights feel really fluid. Needless to say, the graphics were phenomenal. The amount of detail made me want to take my time and explore every bit of the levels. The puzzles were definitely light in comparison with TLOU, but the ones that stood out were surprisingly natural. Figuring out a solution kind of felt like it wasn't even a fabricated puzzle at all and I just happened to find a way to solve a problem naturally.
It's crazy how some people are putting this game on blast. Reading a bunch of negative reviews I get the impression that these people either didn't even play the game or are just salty about one certain plot point and refuse to enjoy a narrative that makes them feel complex emotions. I feel sorry for everyone that can't appreciate how absurdly good this game is, both as a spectacular sequel to a game that should have been impossible to follow, and just as an awesome game in its own right.

People criticize the flashback format but I believe it was perfect at revealing information when it had the biggest impact. The violence in this game is very self aware and Naughty Dog did an amazing job of conveying that every person you kill has their own lives. What a game. We played it in about 35hrs within 3 days; we even sat an alarm to get up early to continue playing - and overslept it cause we were playing from 8:30am until 2:30am the first day. We waited for this story to continue for 7 years and we just consumed it like there is no tomorrow - which I wouldn‘t recommend as I suffered from migraine and severe devastation for the following 4 days. I‘m too old for this sh*t.
Back to the game: the DETAILS!!! The facial expressions of the characters as you play them is unbelievable. They talk to each other as you play, they comment on items you find, Ellie is even biting her nails sometimes; there even was a plastic bag flying through the air in post apocalyptical Seattle! When Abby bit her lip in that one video sequence!!! I could go on forever and the most important thing is the STORY (I just particularly love these DETAILS): I remember how I completely didn’t expect the ending of the first part. I was shocked. Is this the ending!? But!? The cure!? How is she going to believe anything...!? What is!!?? I ended up convincing my husband to immediately restart the game (it was 1am in 2013) as I was sure it had to be a decision-ending and that he simply made that decision and that we can change the ending. Yeah, pathetic. It was THAT kind of a shock. 7 years of discussions about what would happen next between Joel and Ellie and legitimation of Joel’s decision and a never ending nerve-racking WAIT until the story finally continued this June. We consumed the story (we had broken up years ago but yes, we still play games together cause they‘re magic and we cool). We played through the whole story, taking whatever Naughty Dog was throwing at us; at times I was crawled like an embryo and breathing heavily holding together my grief and anger about all the damn perspectives they force me to undergo, stubbornly continuing the damn game in silly hopes of a happy ending (I can hear Naughty Dog laughing [and my ex]). That sh*t hurt. I was SO angry with Naughty Dog. I had gone through too many different yet most devastating emotions in too little time. I‘m sensitive, I‘m empathic; YOU GUYS!!!!! That stuff hurt so bad. In part one you had that one spectacular decision in the end - Naughty Dog must have just said DANG IT, WE‘RE JUST DOING IT! and that‘s what they must have thought on part two every other WEEK. The plot changed faster and heavier than we could ever expect; every possible heart break just HAPPENED; that moment when you switch to Abby... I simply LOVE ABBY and she turned to be my new true hero of The Last Of Us - THERE, I said it!!! I was with Joel and Ellie in the beginning and then ND forced me to realize how brutal and relentless they are (and Tommy). I had spent YEARS trying to JUSTIFY Joel‘s decision (which I never accomplished - in contrast to my ex) which was FORCED on me by Naughty Dog and now the same people show me that IT INDEED WAS THE WRONGEST DECISION EVER MADE and it caused nothing but GRIEF and SORRY - but they don‘t stop there: you have to play Abby and (when you played the game open hearted) find her to be sensitive, strong, smart, afraid of heights, desirable - simply find to love her - find her dad to be the DANG SURGEON (knowing he will be murdered) - find Owen to be her true love (knowing he will be murdered) - ALSO the surgeon takes care of the former zoo animals LIKE THEY ARE TAKING AWAY EVERYTHING BEAUTIFUL WE THOUGHT WE HAD, WE THOUGHT JUSTIFIED JOEL‘S DECISION sorry. Long story short: It was like in that episode of Malcolm in the Middle where Dewey finds his "evil twin" but soon he has to realize that this boy is the good twin and HE is the evil one himself. With the difference that Abby also falls for revenge and therefore finally ruins her life so far as well. I hate people. Thank you Naughty Dog, I truly hate you guys. This is the most incredible journey of emotions, human abysses and stunning graphics ever created. My ex died two times ingame when the first dog attacked us - I wanted him to figure out a way without killing the dogs, but yeah, you also force us to kill dogs. I wondered if there ever is enough time to cope with The Last Of Us Part II - sadly Naughty Dog will give us plenty of years to deal with the aftermaths. I want ABBY and ELLIE saving the world TOGETHER; nothing less¡!! My only wish for all further christmases and shooting stars is that civilization will make it until The Last Of Us Part III - The Remnants

PS: YOU EVEN TOOK HER FINGERS, YOU MONSTERS; GIVING AWAY ELLIE STATUES THAT PLAY GUITAR IN THE COLLECTOR’S EDITION; genius stuff...
