It is fun for what it is, a dark slaughterfest grind. The exploration elements are mostly gone after the first half. Unfortunately it falls flat in story and it falls hard. Since it is designed to be an intense narrative driven experience it will only get a 1 out of 10 from me. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is one that really comes for you and it comes for you hard. Let me first start off with the great. Visuals, soundtrack, lore, tactics and the ever changing mission and level even though must of the game is set in the same place are all on point and above expectations.

I knock off a half point because of some minor technical issues with the initial release that seem to have been corrected upon a few patches. Nothing major just some slight shifts in lighting that briefly pull you out of the experience and some random hit box type issue with the environment.

But let's be honest here. We're all here for the story of this game. This game loses a half point here for me due to unfortunate circumstances that this game is not only incredibly bleak but it comes as one of the bleakest times in the world around me and in my own life. I found myself struggling emotionally and had to step away from the game after a couple hours to just decompress.

I love the dual narrative aspect of the game, re-living the same points in time from two different perspectives. I love how the two main protagonists share that same duality in their respective missions and how we get a different taste of the first game.

Now, I think a lot of people dislike this store for reasons that well are silly and therefore shouldn't be taken seriously. However there are valid criticisms of the story. I do see this as a logical step for the characters but I don't know that it's necessary, again due to the bleak times. We see Ellie loose everything and then some. We see beloved characters killed for no good reason. We see people broken by revenge and how it takes everything from them.

What we're left with is an engaging, hard hitting story involving north of two dozen lives and are confronted with what happens when we don't let things go that we should. When we have everything we want out of life, except that one thing, and we give up the rest of our world for it.

I think this game is a great commentary on loss, revenge, found family, friendship and ultimately sacrifice. If only serenity could be granted to some, all would have been better off for it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This piss poor game was so unsatisfying and was a drag to play. The way they put an end to Joel even though he was the main protagonist on the first title was such a disservice to that character and its fans, especially so early on in the game which made his death more of a plot device than anything else. Elly looks and sounds dead. She’s not the same character who I loved in the first title. This game consists of subpar writing and lines with major plot holes. Multiple scenes that are a cringe-fest and it’s dragged out story. It’s like the writers didn't know when to end the game. At a certain point I wasn’t even having fun anymore, I just wanted it to end. But it didn’t. To top it off you get forced to play Abby just to see her pov in an attempt to humanize that character but demonize Elly even more. She had little to no character development for me to even want to sympathize with her. I find it quite ironic that Abby goes out to kill ‘scars’ but as soon as a couple saves her, she has a change of heart to help them almost instantaneously. But when Joel and Tommy save her, the game decides to torture Joel and end his life with a golf club. This was a horrible game. These ‘top critics’ are lying out of their teeth and there is no ambition in criticism/journalism anymore because they probably get paid to put on a front that this game is as good as they’re describing it. Naughty Dogs and Neil Whateverman can keep their third title if they ever plan on making one because this disaster of a game with it’s repetitive missions lost me as a fan. I’m going to slowly remove the sequel out of my head and act like it never came out. BAD. End of review. Expand

    Key word is EMOTIONS !
I don't know how is it possible to put something else than 10/10.
This game is able to create emotions and when you finish it you feel like empty. You play both side of the story and at the end you like Abby as much as you like Ellie and it's terrible. - Graphics are insane even with the first PS4 generation (TV LG OLED) - Sound tracks are insane ... Thanks

Naughty Dog’s story may be unlikable to many, but it’s a necessary and emotional one. If you enjoyed Part II’s predecessor, you really have to play this game. The fact that the game is as polarizing as it is has to speak volumes about its contents. If you have the money and you’re interested in, as Ellie says, “see(ing) what all the fuss is about”, then get the game. Don’t let the reviews influence you if you’re conflicted. Play it for yourself. Form your own opinion. That experience alone is worth it.

Even though the game has some narrative problems, I don’t think it’s enough to detonate. Remembering I’m not a fanboy, but I have to recognize that the game is wonderful. There is no point in watching videos or lives, as you will not be as immersed as you are playing, because your attention and emotion is a thousand times better. I have a friend who is an xbox fanboy, and he detonated the game, saying it was this and that. But if he had played the story it would be different. For in other respects, other than the somewhat problematic story that in the end is good, even controlling the villain who killed an important character, the game is impeccable and deserves your attention and a chance! The writers tries hard wanting you to relate to a story that they butchered themselves. If done properly this would have been a master piece even with all the main plot and ideology remaining the same but unfortunately we got a game with all the aspects and key components of a master piece assembled together by monkeys.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Naughty dog got as heavy on the story as 1 or 2, the strong point for me are the characters, extremely well scared, it seems that there is real life, and a courage that had to kill the main character was incredible. They killed or Joel in a dry, cruel way and would even say cowardly, but with a purpose: to make people feel and with revenge on their skin, just like Ellie felt, something that is due to Dina who does not cause the same impact, not criteria for the same drama and it would just be another game with the theme of revenge. In such an end of the world, death is a horror, ugly and raw, I was even waiting for some words like "I love you", "take care" in the deaths of certain characters as fantasy, but no, it was dry, it was de suddenly and I cause very strong emotions. As for example, in Jesse's death, before opening a door he was alive after opening a floor like a potato sack, without saying a word, and that's exactly what happens in the world, nothing fancy for 5 minutes to redeem etc., then death. In addition to revenge, the game talks about empathy, something that many people do not feel, did the other side of the coin, so it was amazing to play with an abby, although I still prefer Ellie. The genius of the end was incredible, or the emptiness in which abby and Ellie fight, symbolizing how they feel about the whole story, abby had her goal completed, Ellie did not, but nothing else was left to her since she saw everything that was not there. Joel back and still had Jesse and the Star. The boats too, or the abby's boat turned to the sea to move on, and Ellie's boat towards the land, the abby has already done his revenge, lost people too but the goal was completed and he became a better person and he was ready to move on, already at Ellie, continuing the story of revenge. I love Ellie's ending very much, the biggest fear was being alone and unfortunately it was, in my head I hope you went to Jackson and reconciled with Dina. Tommy, a guy who has weights on his back, but was also being a better person again, became obsessed with revenge too (the loss of his eye symbolizes being blinded by revenge) and had problems with Maria, something that I think ended after the death of his father, who broke up with Owen.

The game is incredible, I never felt anything like it, but some things spoil the presence of some bugs, but they don't interfere much in the gameplay, and frustrations with the listening mode, as they sometimes don't catch or affect them, are being exhibited.

Unlike the first game there are no silver linings throughout the story that greatly contributed to the enjoyment of the original Last of Us, as it also carried a lot of weight. There's little to no feel good moments past the first hour or so of the game; all melancholic or upsetting. Combine this with new largely un-relatable characters, it's easy to wish they didn't make this game and left the first game to it's own. This game would have been better suited as either a spin-off or a standalone title; it's really that different from it's origins. Expand

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
