Simply a masterpiece. Nothing less. The low user scores reflects how well the narrative manages to connect with you and really hit you where it hurts. I am definitely a Last of us fan, and this sequel is everything i hoped for.

A masterpiece that improves on the first game in every respect. But apparently some people can understand nuance or appreciate a bold take on a tired formula. Go into it with an open mind and you’ll come to appreciate this great game for what it really is. And just because someone hates the story doesn’t make it objectively bad. 10/10 easy.

Absolutely amazing. Gameplay is way better than TLOU 1 and the atmosphere and storytelling is stellar. This kind of cinematic experience is rivaled only by Rockstar's RDR2.

The critical part, which is the story is the exact opposite of lazy. While often AAA studios are accused of not daring or taking risks, Naughty Dog went the exact opposite route. And while I definitely felt deep sadness and emptiness at parts of the game, it's those feelings that drive the rest of the story and make it rich. I have never got into these emotional feelings in any game, movie, or even show. Not even Game of Thrones prepared me for this.

The had a card which they burnt, but from it branched two different opposing narratives, that lets you play and feel the villain's story. When you realize that at the time you were plotting to kill the villain, she was actually risking her life, going against her own people, to save an innocent child from the opposing cult.

The story of Part 1 in my opinion was more solid. But it was also a lot more linear, and didn't have the conflict Part 2 brings. You may like the story of Part 2 or not in the end. But this is definitely not lazy writing. The details and conflicts have been well thought of, and go very deep, I've never played a game like this. I personally had some moments where I didn't fully buy what happened. But despite that, The Last of Us Part 2 still stands high and unique. When I finished it, I thought I'm good for now. But few weeks later, and all I could think of was this game. And I realized I want to replay it. Although I'm rarely the replay kind of player. So far that, I still find it hard to give it a 9 instead of a 10.

The best way to enjoy this game is to play it yourself without any prior knowledge or expectations. Enjoy it, and be the judge.

I'll start off by saying this game is not for the light of heart and it will challenge you against conventional storytelling. Its uncomfortable, overwhelming and challenging. Its bleak more often than not but when it wraps its truly masterful storytelling. The gameplay is top notch. The graphics are unlike anything I've seen.

    - sometimes a feeling of slowing down the storyline due to "forced" gameplay

After seven years, I finally got The Last of Us Part II. What to write about him in a few sentences? The title surpasses its predecessor in all respects and pushes the bar sacramentally high, I would say that it has become a milestone across all Playstation titles that can be played at the moment (or rather survive) and is slowly opening the door to a new generation. The story works great with the characters, when the original ones return and new ones come, and whose psychology and characteristics are different and original, each with a past and a justified motive for its actions. In some scenes, there is an uncontrollable surge of various emotions, which was last provided by Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. The atmosphere connected with the music and the story has again moved a few levels higher and we can speak of a strong dramatic experience that will leave you scars long after it is over. Actions always have their consequences, only at different levels (physical and mental). The gameplay is basically taken from the unit, only it is more balanced, supplemented by new ideas, new enemies, larger locations and solutions to various situations. The Last of Us Part II and its story need to be lived on to your own skin, you can analyze and interpret it on other levels, but this will only bring up questions that are irrelevant to the game as such. So if I have to dig a little (really VERY a little) into that end, then my short version reads: The terms "revenge" and "violence" are directly linked. Is it really necessary to have so much violence in the world? If so, at what price? Where is the end of that human frontier when one opposes revenge? It can be a proceeding, resp. a motive of revenge conditioned by an imbalance of the consequences of the past? Is it possible to back down from revenge and compromise? Here you go.
PS: Do you know that the opposite of revenge is forgiveness? If you didn't realize this after finishing The Last of Us Part II, then I don't know how you perceive the stories.

TLOU2 is truly a masterpiece of storytelling, not a game for kids or teens, not to Because of the violence but because of the story and the context, it's a grown-up story with a mature theme. It's a story about revenge for the absurdity of it, around superbly written and fleshed out characters.

Some of the best writing not only in video games, but in media in general. Just like in film, the story is being told to us not made by us. There are no choices we as gamers get to make that will change the outcome. But, we are forced to participate in the events and so internalize them, making the emotional impacts much deeper. People looking for a power fantasy are playing the wrong game.

All hate aside this game was fantastic. They left no stones unturned in the story and the game play was brutal. The entire experience was an improvement over the original. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. tl;dr: it's a cult classic. Just like the first game.

Now to elaborate, first let's talk about TLOU1:

    - You start the game as Joel's daughter. Then she dies. In the intro. Brutal. To the hands of a main human antagonist (authority). Sets the tone for the rest of the game. Revenge. Anger. Violence.
    - She gets replaced by another character. Ellie.
    - You get hurt really bad mid-game. You get to play as Ellie. Just to be in her shoes, and realize how badass she is, and how much you/Joel care about her.
    - If you're a fan like me, you got to play a second time as her in the DLC. Explaning further what she did when joel was hurt. And she did that to save him. You also learn that she is a lesbian. Her first love dies.
    - Some other loveable characters like Bill and that woman from the beginning die during the game. Including the Head of the fireflies.
    - Joel kills hundreds of people not to save mankind, but to keep Ellie alive for him. That's beautiful, and this is why people (like me) love that game. But also, from a humanity perspective, he did that for nothing.
    - You stealth kill with a bow and arrow, fight clickers, or just walk beautiful nieghborhoods, and cuddle giraffes.

=> GOTY. best game ever. People like it. Nothing to say storywise, or technically speaking (music, graphics, gameplay mechanics, fun, narration, escape factor, etc.

There was four-chan in 2013. But no alt-right vs. feminism civil war yet.

    Now TLOU2:

    - You start the game as Ellie. Then Joel dies. Early. Brutal. To the hands of a main human antagonist (Abby). His lies just caught up to him, tbh. Sets the tone for the rest of the game. Revenge. Anger. Violence. (You were deceived, judging by the trailers, that maybe Ellie's new girlfriend died early. Oh, and you knew she was a lesbian, remember?)
    - He gets replaced by another character.
    - You get to play as that another character at some point. Just to be in her shoes, and realize how badass she is, and how much you understand her.
    - If you're a fan, you probably get to play as other characters in upcoming DLC. Explaning things further too.
    - Some other loveable characters die during the game.
    - Ellie kills hundreds of people not to get Kratos revenge, but to realize that Joel is alive in her thoughts, and that killing some more won't bring him back. That's beautiful, and this is why people (like me) love that game. But also, from another perspective, she did that for nothing. As she doesn't kill Abby, and ends up dramatically hurt.
    - You stealth kill with a bow and arrow, fight clickers, or just walk beautiful nieghborhoods and sceneries.
    - And a few more surprises

=> GOTY. best game ever for the press and the professionals, the ones deemd controversial and the others. But some people hate it. Nothing to say technically speaking (music, graphics, gameplay mechanics, fun, narration, escape factor, etc.), so they spit on it storywise.

Four-chan is overtaken by alt-right vs. feminists drama, and a Y Generation that find everything "cringy" and violently hate anything within minutes, as if it was the end of their world.

    Welcome to 2020.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I never write reviews, even if it is a game that I thoroughly enjoyed. However, I feel extremely compelled to do so because of all the backlash and negative reviews this game has received from its users.

You cannot walk into this game with a closed mindset, expecting it to be an exact copy of its predecessor, where you will play as Joel and Ellie, taking on the war torn and post-apocalyptic America. In-fact, what makes this game stand out is that it is so different from its predecessor and forces you to face the ethical problems that unraveled as a result of Joel's decisions in the end of the first game. Joel's decision to murder the lead surgeon developing a cure and many other Firefly soldiers leaves no hope for a cure, or resolution to the plot that carried much of the motives for the first game. How would other people expect the story to continue with Joel and Ellie again? pursuing the same objective once again? Going after a character for revenge together? There is no possibility for this, and it would just be a repeat of events from the first game. Naughty Dog instead chose to take the game in a different direction, killing one of the main characters right off the bat to fill you with anger and a thirst for revenge. You spend the first 10 hours of the game weaving through corrupt soldiers, killing those responsible for the actions of Joel's death until you finally unravel the reason behind it: Joel ruined all hope for a cure, and people are ANGRY.

It is a tough pill to swallow. You have to look at the choices from a different perspective. One that is not just Joel and Ellie, which is what the entirety of the first game was built on. This shifts even harder when the game throws you into the shoes of Joel's murderer, Abby. However, the back story that is built on Abby only showcases her motives for murdering Joel, and why she was so desperate for revenge. You then start to see Joel's motives for what they truly are, and how they affected other people than just himself and Ellie. Abby's story then further dives into her own issues, dealing with her love with Owen and her strained relationship with Mel. She then becomes a bigger sister figure to Lev, who is struggling to find his true identity. Along the way, Abby discovered the WLF for who they truly are and how she has lost her way. However, through all this loss that Abby has endured, she is further damaged by Ellie's reckless actions fueled by a thirst for revenge over Joels death.

Ellie can never truly forgive herself for not repairing her relationship with Joel sooner, and what really hurts her is that she understands the motives that resulted in his death. Thus, she seeks justice to try and heal that damage until she finds out that it is not going to fix her problems.

I think it's somewhat justified that some users are very upset by this game. It is NOT a typical sequel to a video game, and I really believe that is why I like it so much. The Last of Us Part II truly forces the player to stomach their characters decisions and live through the game in an entirely different perspective. If I said the first game didn't leave a sour taste in my mouth at the end, I would be lying. This is a perfect sequel as it makes you consider if what Joel did was right, or wrong, and lets you live out the consequences of his actions. HOWEVER, I do NOT agree that the story is bad. The story is very progressive and evolves further and further as time goes on. It is important to remember, there are NO happy endings in a world so chaotic and lost. Joel and Ellie will not live happily ever after. Ellie won't kill Abby and then everything will be fine. It is not a giant circle singing kumbaya.

Instead, it is dark and twisted and evolving around every corner. There is love. There is loss. And at the end it left me feeling complete. Like a proper ending to a series that is so close and dear to my heart. We truly get to see the outcome of Joel's decisions from the first game and how it has affected the world. I applaud Naughty Dog for crafting something so beautiful and something so RAW that really shakes players to their core. If this game did not move you at any part of its story, I encourage you to give it another try with an open mind. Really look at the characters for who they are and try to see their perspective.

Great job Naughty Dog, you knocked this one out of the park. I will definitely be playing it again.

The game plays better than the first game. Looks better. Sounds better. Gritty gripping story in a world gone to hell. The main difference is having to play most of the game with a female and is a lesbian. That's it. Review bombing is just because of that reason, and if anyone looks at that score and thinks the game is bad is completely wrong.

What it should tell you is that gaming is still filled with toxic males who can't accept a different lead character other than a middle aged masculine straight male. As a man it's embarrassing to see this. The millions that have bought it are loving it and drown out your triggered user score ratings of 0... really.... 0?

Imagine if you're a young woman who's a lesbian and this is the response you see from guys when a game finally represents your struggle and doesn't cater to a super sexualized lesbian vision either.

I don't get why men will hoot, holler, and get hyped when it's a shirtless super muscular ripped near nude male character but feel threatened when it's a young adult female lesbian. I'm glad I'm not stuck in that insecure conservative anti-LGBT bubble. Grow the hell up guys, gaming isn't just your little hobby anymore, it's for everyone. If you don't like it, just skip the game. Review bombing is immature AF.

Absolutely loved every minute of this game. It plays good and looks good.
The story line made me happy, sad and angry. This is not a game that is there to make you feel comfy, it is horror.
Best game of 2020 (for me).
I would say to anyone give it a go.

I'll be blunt. If you are hating on this game without playing it, you are either (a) a fool or (b) a bigot. There's no help for bigots (and the 'politics' in this game are utterly minor and beside the point), but if you don't want to be a fool:

You need to realize you can't judge this story by reading leaked spoilers or watching it on Youtube. You can't. You are getting the most superficial understanding of what happens in this game. It's an interactive experience. The whole *point* is you are going to play as these characters. And as you do, you develop a much richer understanding of who they are, their motivations, what happens to them and what you do as them. You feel things that, in my opinion, no other game has ever succeeded in making people feel. It's an astonishing accomplishment and a masterpiece of the gaming medium. It also happens to be fun as hell.

If you skip it, you are just missing out on something incredible. For sad, stupid reasons most likely.

I love all the characters - Joel, Ellie and...yes...even Abby. That's the magic of this game.

    - Great technical presentation. Especially mo-cap is so good you can see slightest emotions and see what the character think and feel even when they are silent.

    - Story is great. It does some unexpected (if you avoid spoilers) things we dont usually see in the stories. And makes sure you dont see the story as a simple black and white strunggle between good nice guy vs bad ugly guy that needs to be killed to make the world a better place. It will make you question what you are doing and sometimes can create confused feelings ("Should I feel bad about this if I felt ok with it few hours ago?" "Was it ok to kill that person?"). For me this is something I really appreciate because it is rare and few writers dare to try this. (it is so much easier to say "it is ok to kill these people, because they are red on minimap." And TLoU tries to avoid this approach as much as possible)

-Solid lenght - Took me 30hours to finish. With high roduciton values all the time.

A story of revenge that becomes a lesson in obsession and forgiveness. It's a rehashing of violence begetting violence, but also showing that good deeds can be contagious.

On top of that it improves stealth, AI, and some of the mechanics from the first game. And it looks amazing.

This game takes narrative risks I have never seen before in gaming, and the acting, animations, and graphics all lend themselves to creating one of the most compelling narratives and character studies in gaming.

You cannot judge a movie based off of a couple of scenes or a trailer, and you cannot judge a game based on that same metric.
Everything you have seen or read about the spoilers is based around just 2 or 3 scenes in this game, and that is completely unfair to the writing of the entire game.
If you think it's SJW, it's not. If you think it's "woke", it's not. The game's writing has absolutely nothing to do with that.
Are you OK with Ellie being a lesbian after the first game? Then you'll be fine with the writing in this game.
You're wrong to judge if you think that it's anything more than that. There is no LGBT agenda. There's no agenda to speak of.
You need to see this story through to properly judge, and a few thousand gamers from the internet community being upset with a couple of out of context leaks should not stop you from enjoying what is frankly one of the most emotionally complex and deep games ever made.

If you don't like it, try to grow up and understand how a move like this breaks all the clichés and stereotypes in modern storytelling and adds so much needed originality to a genre that's now only being mindlessly recycled.
TLOU has always been an R-rated game about people being pushed to their limits causing shocking situations for most of the players, and the events from Part Two used the potential created by this rating as almost nothing ever before. Combat and gameplay are similar to the first game, but is expanded in smart and intuitive ways. But the real standout is the story, and the way it unfolds. There is a point halfway through the game where the story takes a twist that I've never seen before in a game. Chances are you will feel frustrated and you will be reluctant to keep playing. This is intentional. When you get to that point (and you will know it when it happens), take a deep breath, and keep going. There is much more to the story than meets the eye. Say what you want, this is an extremely provocative game, about which no one will be able to remain indifferent to. It never leaves you in your comfort zone, it´s always messing with your feelings, ideas, certainties, truths.

Over 30 hours + I felt an immense range of sensations: anger, sadness, joy at the little things in a collapsing world, frustration, confusion. Until a beautiful, poetic and heartbreaking conclusion, in the best Last of Us style.

If you have finished and TRULY hated that game, ok, it's your right to hate it. If you haven't even finished this story and decided to just board the hate train, I invite you to expand your horizons, try to dive into this story as it was conceived and accept - even if you don't agree - all the subversive choices in the script.

    Is this game perfect?

    Of course not.

But is it an incredible feat of the medium and something I will never be able to forget, nor get out of my mind for the next few weeks?

    Hot damn, YES.

This is without a doubt one of the best games I have ever played. It has some minor flaws, nothing game-breaking or soul-crushing, but it made me think, feel, laugh, cry, shout, jump and physically shake with anxiety during the most pivotal story moments. I've never played something so subversive, heart-pounding, emotional and gripping in my life. This is not just a game; it's so, so much more.

I gave it a 10/10 rating to try and balance out the shameful number of less-than-2 reviews. But it's no less than a 9/10 for me.

Because like I said - it isn't perfect. I've seen a very small number of weird graphical glitches, some strange AI behaviour in particular from allies (yes, usually the enemy still can't spot your friends when they run out of cover right in front of them - but this hardly ever happens), and the slightly clunky controls which sometimes leave you frustrated when an easy headshot suddenly becomes a frantic fight for your survival (normally not an issue - as when the gameplay devolves from stealth to action, I have never wanted to reset the checkpoint, because both forms of gameplay are exciting and super fun).

But honestly? That's about all I can think of. Anything else would be nitpicking. The people who are review-bombing or slating this game for their sad and frankly toxic personal and societal reasons, seriously need to get their priorities straight.

If you're going to take a story about infected, mushroom-headed zombies taking over the world, and simply complain about the incredibly realistic human stories nestled inside it, and call it outlandish and stupid - you're a complete moron. It's that simple.

Video games and the stories they tell are going to continue to evolve into something more real, believable, and human than ever before. If you refuse to evolve with them, slither back into the primordial soup from whence you came.

If you voted this game anything less than 7 just because you didn't like LOU2's "LGBT agenda" (also known as "a bunch of real-life, believable human stories") - perhaps you should stick to the ballistic knives and dual-wielded shotguns of Call of Duty, where you can call strangers "gay" to your hearts content, and scream down the mic when your mother calls you for supper.

After what I would easily consider an absolute triumph of a game, Naughty Dog at least deserves fair reviews. Not the utter bile being spewed by hopeless, societal rejects.

And if you've posted story spoilers without even trying to hide them, just to ruin the story for everybody else because you spat your dummy out and had a tantrum - shame on you.

The hatred towards this game is baffling. I finished it two days ago, and I've been thinking about the ending ever since. What this game achieves with its narrative is remarkable, and absolutely elevates games as art. Those who hate the game either:

The hatred towards this game is baffling. I finished it two days ago, and I've been thinking about the ending ever since. What this game achieves with its narrative is remarkable, and absolutely elevates games as art. Those who hate the game either:

    1. Dislike the disturbing nature of the narrative (just how "Hereditary" and "It Comes At Night" were hated due to their dark endings). This response is valid and makes sense, as art is ultimately subjective. If you don't like dark stories that examine the demons in us all, this game isn't for you. It was designed to make the player profoundly disturbed, and inverse the typical protagonist/antagonist dynamic. If you like black and white morality with clearly defined good guys and bad guys, this ain't for you. That said, if you enjoy stories with a realistic portrayal of morality that dwells in the grey, you'll love this game. I know players who disliked the game because of how it made them feel, and that's okay. The fact they felt disturbed means that the game succeeded in its narrative.

    2. Certain individuals have taken issue with the LGBTQ representation. I'm no bigot, but I do find it annoying when "SWJ" agenda is pushed in movies and games in an unnatural way. I can confidently say that TLOU2's inclusion of LGBTQ characters does not feel forced at all; it makes sense within the context of the story. The game shows rather than tells. It isn't "woke" propaganda; it simply has gay/bisexual characters, and subtly examines the hardships faced by trans individuals. It isn't the central theme of the game; just ancillary subplots. If you think this game is woke propaganda, you should take a long look inward and question your prejudices.

    3. Some people seem to have recognized the goal of the narrative, but feel like it ultimately failed to achieve what it was meant to achieve. Some claim that the narrative falls flat due to ludo-narrative dissonance. All I can say to these people is that I disagree. It hit me like a ton of bricks emotionally, and perfectly stuck the landing. As for ludo-narrative dissonance, well, the game tries to minimize that by humanizing the countless people you slaughter with excellent AI, dialogue, and actual names (something I've never seen before in a game). All of Naughty Dogs games suffer from ludo-narrative dissonance, as do many of the best games every made. And no, the theme of the game is not revenge; vengeance is simply the channel used to explore the true themes of TLOU2 - hatred, empathy, morality, and the lurking demons within every human being. It encourages us to consider that our concepts of justice are subjective, and without empathy, we're liable to confuse justice with cruelty. It's a profound lesson that applies to nearly all forms of human conflict, from war to revenge. There are no good guys and bad guys, just people who think they're doing the right thing out of anger and apathy.

From what I can tell, these 3 criticisms sum up the critical response of users. To be honest, even if the story had failed for me, I would have still adored the game due to its FANTASTIC gameplay (which shines most on the "Survivor" difficulty). The animations and AI are state of the art (possibly the best of this generation), gunplay & melee feel weighty and realistic, and the addition of prone plus increased verticality greatly enhance the stealth gameplay. It's one of the most immersive survival stealth games I've ever played, as it takes the strengths of the first game and perfecting them. If you enjoy survival games like Resident Evil and stealth games like Metal Gear Solid, you'll probably love TLOU2's gameplay.

I have very few complaints. While the ending is superb, I think they could have fleshed out some of the secondary characters more effectively. Only Ellie and Abby have defined character arcs. They did a fine job with the time that they had, but I feel the game would have benefited from a few additional hours, during which we played as Tommy, Jesse, Dina, and Lev, as it would have strengthened our connection to these characters. In terms of gameplay, I wish you could slide from sprinting to crouching, and the jump mechanic could have been improved. I know I'm nitpicking with these, but it would have made traversal a bit more fluid. There should have been an additional difficulty option, as I think the player has too much health (even on Survivor). It would have been nice to have a realistic damage system where you can only take a couple bullets before dying (even better, the players injuries should correspond to where they were hit). Additionally, they should have incorporated non-lethal approaches towards combat. Such features would have reduced the ludo-narrative dissonance substantially.

Outside of these minor complaints, the game is near perfect, and may exceed TLOU1. 10/10, don't let the haters scare you away.

Antes de comentar sobre The Last Of Us Parte 2 vou fazer algumas ponderações sobre o primeiro jogo.

After completion I can only say: "Masterpiece".
Graphics, gameplay, music, climax and last, but not least - story. Everything is perfect. I've had goosebumps several times.

A great game! Imo it's far better than the first part. The gameplay, as well as sound and music quality, is just amazing. Stelth is a lot more thought out. I think the real score for this one is 9, nevertheless I'm putting 10 because I'm sick of this hatred!

It’s a grim and bleak parable about vengeance and the cycle of violence, but with many moments of genuine beauty and tenderness which I’ve rarely seen in a game. The narrative structure and plot developments are brave and some of them even hard to digest, but all of it ties in seamlessly with the overall theme of the game and the nature of the unforgiving world the developers have created. A must-play for every PS4 owner. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The relationship between Joel and Ellie in Part 2 is more complicated, more interesting and more moving than the one they had in the 1st game. There! I said it! The fact that his death was so abrupt and unceremonious makes the flashback scenes and the fact that Ellie didnt get to forgive him all the more tragic. Abby is a great character that I liked and rooted for not because her killing Joel is justified by the fact that he killed her father but because playing the game you get to experience her arc from being a traumatized ruthless killer with tribalistic ethics to becoming a friend and a mother figure to a kid who she thought was the enemy. She was lost in the darkness and she searched for the light(like the Firefly motto goes), the light her dad represented, the light he found with Lev. To the people who hate the ending because Ellie doesnt kill Abby: Are you seriously saying that all the other killings were pointless because she didnt kill Abby? The theme of the story was about learning to let go and stop holding on to hate. The point of it all was not "Good guy kill bad guy" but for Ellie to finally let go of the hate that destroyed all of these lives, the hate Abby also had for Joel and that ultimately lead to the death of all her friends. Hate, eve if its justifiable, will only destroy you and turn you into the monster you were fighting against. The best thing you can do is to let go and forgive even the most unforgivable acts. Just think about how much better things would be if Ellie hadnt walked down that path of vengeance. Think how better things would be if she had forgiven Joel earlier. She was too late on forgiving Joel but not Abby. If she had killed her she would be forever lost in the darkness and there would be no turning back. With that last act of forgiveness she just barely saved herself. By the end of the story Ellie knew the cost of resisting forgiveness. By learning to forgive Abby she finally forgave Joel. Even if it was too late its was nice knowing that the last time they spoke to each other she gave him hope that one day she would finally learn to forgive him. That day tragically never came for him but he died hoping and in the bleak world of The Last of Us you take what you can get. Expand

After finishing this game I have only two regrets: the first one is that I let myself get affected by a lot of internet comments casting shade on this game and so I did not buy the collectors edition right away, for fear of wasting money on an expensive collectors edition of a game I might not end up enjoying. To be honest, even though I liked it a lot TLOU1 was not my favourite game of that generation, so my expectations were maybe not as high as a lot of other people for the second instalment of the franchise. That being said, I do not understand what is going on around this game. Finished it last night and absolutely loved it. Gameplay was fun and engaging, graphics were the definite best this console generation can offer, and definitely also some of the best out right now, for consoles or pc. Animation is beautiful, fluid and lifelike, the amount of realistic secondary movement goes to show the lengths the devs went to for this game. Story was engaging and heart breaking, characters very, VERY, well written and performed, all of it is truly believable, if maybe not entirely original. Yes, I am aware of all the online shenanigans regarding this game, and I truly do not get it. It seems a group of people feel entitled to having the devs create the game that they want without actually agreeing on what exactly that is. They want to feel good about the decisions made by the characters without realising that is not necessarily the point of telling a story. I have played the original TLOU years ago, and I remember feeling very conflicted about the decision the main character does at the end of it, this game made me feel exactly the same way throughout the whole 26ish hours of gameplay it took me to finish it. There are no perfect characters, there are no true morally flawless characters and I absolutely loved it. Reading through most of the user reviews in this website, and the comments made in other websites and social media I feel like a large majority of the negative reviews are just hate for the sake of hate, which is very ironic since it mirrors precisely one of the main points this game tries to bring across. Is there also hate speech against a perceived attempt at inclusion and diversity by the writers? Probably a portion of the negative reviews, yeah, but I feel that it is mostly just mob mentality, generally in social media, but also following a few select well known youtubers who are starting to sound more and more like egomaniacs completely detached from reality. And I say “perceived” attempt at inclusion and diversity, because that is precisely what it is, I did not feel for a single second that any of the characters or their backstories was in any way tacked on just for the sake of diversity.
Bottom line is, the game is awesome, easily one of the best games I have ever played, polished to a incredible degree in every aspect of it, it definitely gathers all the good things naughty dog has learned throughout the years in one incredibly enjoyable package, thoroughly recommend it to fans of story driven action games. With this, we get to my second regret about this game, which is actually having played it. I now wish I could get my memory of it completely erased just so that I could enjoy it for the first time all over again.
This game affected me so deeply that I’m not sure I can go back to playing other story driven games any time soon after playing TLOU2 without feeling like everything is subpar in comparison with it, so I think I will just do something I have never done before in my 25+ years of gaming, and start playing this again right away just so I can take in all the details that I might have missed the first time around.

The game is **** scary, so my approach involved a lot of cowering and poorly timed sneaking followed by mayhem. I think if you liked the first game, RDR2 or Witcher 3, then there's a good chance you'll like this. It's every bit as good as they are. The game is a goddam masterpiece. It does take it's time though so don't expect some fast-paced twitchy shooter. And it's massively violent, so beware of that. Expand

Great writing, never a dull moment.

The game play varies between suspenseful stealth and real time panic masterfully, never unfair, always challenging.

Extra kudos for great accessibility options, a landmark for the games industry.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
