    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part 1 was a game that's easy to love. Throughout the entirety of the story, you bond and form relationships with witty, funny, noble and in general, lovable characters. The game is about love and family. After all, especially the end is about putting love above everything else.

    The Last of Us Part 2 is a game that's not easy to appreciate or even like. It's the polar opposite of the first game. As creative director Neil Druckman himself said it; Part 2 is about hate.

    In Part 2 you come to face the consequences of your actions in Part 1. The death of Joel at the hands of Abby, a new character, and her friends, neither of whom we know anything about.

    In a feat of hate and revenge, Ellie promises to avenge Joel and kill every last of one the people involved in his tragic death. Here, even the player is involved, as previously we had formed great bonds with these characters, and we can empathize with them and their loss. What is hard to do, and the reason many people don't like the game, is the second part of the game. Where you instead play as Abby, and see their part of the story. Through gameplay and cleverly written flashbacks, we get to know Abby's side of things. The game forces you to analyze and challenge everything you know about Ellie and Joel. As we get to experience first hand the atrocities Ellie and especially Joel committed in Part 1, we start to realize how everything is connected. However, not everyone will like this game. As Troy Baker said, you have to approach Part 2 with an open mind. You have to allow Naughty Dog to tell the story they wrote for these characters instead of expect the one you want to hear.

    While some people will be able to do this, others won't. They will not be able to empathize with Abby and her group, and will not be able to accept that Joel and Ellie's actions had rightfully deserved consequences.

    One thing I know for sure, though, is that the people who really take the time to appreciate the game with an open mind will love the game.

    They will be able to appreciate the level of detail the developers put into this absolute masterpiece. From the audio and visuals to the storytelling. Naughty Dog truly remains at the top of their game with this story. Controversial ending explained for people who hate it because they didn't get it: In the epilogue, Ellie's wounds have healed, she's not carrying any weapons with her, she's wearing her Jackson boots from the beginning of the game, and most importantly: she's wearing Dina's bracelet. These are all subtle hints that Ellie actually got her happy ending. She was able to forgive Abby, when she saw Joel and herself in Abby and Lev. She was able to forgive Joel, as in the final moments of the game she finally understood why he did what he did. And most importantly, she learned to forgive herself and find inner peace. This is why she leaves the guitar at the end. She's finally letting Joel go.

    Furthermore, Dina's bracelet and her wearing her Jackson boots, as well as her now healed fingers indicate that she might now be living happily with Dina, JJ and Jesse's parents in Jackson (theory supported by Jesse's parents' letter) and is only visiting the farmhouse to get closure.    … Expand

    You dont have to like this game, but I think everyone needs to play it. If you enjoy art, you will enjoy this game regardless.
    Quality is superb technically from animations, to playability and probably best graphics I've seen in any game so far.

    Possibly the best game I have ever played. Totally recommend it! It is more like playing a movie rather than a video game. Some of the decisions taken by the characters will be undesired or uncomfortable, but, in my opinion, video games must not be something always funny to play.     El primer juego fue un masterpiece que probablemente no necesitaba una secuela. Sin embargo el equipo de naughty dog no nada más logra justificar esta segunda parte, al igual logra presentar un juego igual de bueno.

    Ok, where to begin ? First: sorry for grammar errors, english isn´t my native language. Second: this game is one of the most beautiful and brillant things i´ve ever seen. The last of us was already a banger back then, but Part 2 levels up everything on it. First with a large improvement of the mechanics. More agility, speed and brutality have been added and they suit the game really well.Ok, where to begin ? First: sorry for grammar errors, english isn´t my native language. The dodge and quick gun swap (L1 and R1 respectively) are just wonderful, if we had at least the quick gun swap on the first game it would have been so much more fluid and good to play, these 2 aditions are the ones that impressed me the most by the very well done implementation of them. Besides that and a jump button and ability to climb ropes it still very similar to the first game but more fluid, which makes it better. Graphically it is just astonishing, Naughty Dog did it again. Facial expressions, executions, running, walking, crawling, pronning, all just looks beautiful and natural. The upgrade system also changed a little, while in the first one you find manuals to improve one of your gadgets, in this one you find manuals to unlock skill trees so you can upgrade things like silencer durability, crafting speed, craft more itens with less resources and etc. The gunplay feels very good, specially the shotgun and pistols, there´s more impact and realism to it, the sound design is on point also. Enemies have more variation now with two new types of infected and different human groups that use different tactics in combat so your gameplay can be refreshed everytime you face any enemy, the addition of dogs have also increased the difficulty a lot, and that´s good to keep players engaged in combat and pay attetion to everything surrounding them, I finished my first run on survivor and oh boy these damn dogs gave me some headaches. But what really sums up for me it´s really the story. Neil writing evolution in pretty evident here, mainly by the courage to write something like this, something challenging, to put perspectives on the table and show the audience that your beloved characters may not be the good guys, that the bad guys may not be bad, and that there is no hero in this world. By the end of it i was sad and relieved. I was sad because it was over, but relieved also because it was over, it was so much of a confusing experience by the end, but in the good way, the confusion that keeps you thinking "oh my god that was awesome" you know like shutter island, memento and other movies. Shocking, ambitious, expandend, enchanced and brave, those are the words that i use to describe this game, and for all those reasons i give it my 10/10 and believe me it´s hard to get this from me. Don´t believe the hate, believe constructive arguements and critics, doesn´t matter if they give the game a 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10 like me, if it´s constructive give it a read, but if it´s just pure hate let it go. Remember, it´s a videogame, the characters are not real and does not represent the actors behind them.

This game accomplished incredible achievements with narrative and the exploration of revenge, grief and the futility of our anger. I was so impressed with the artistic experience and also how I felt the emotions of the characters I played. The comparative nature of playing a beloved character and then the enemy was harrowing but absolutely worthwhile and a unique experience.… Expand

So people are just cool with Joel killling whoever he wants and ripping the cure for humanity away from everyone for his own selfish reasons? That since Joel is such a likable guy, he dosen't deserve, no matter what he does to anybody else, the reckoning that comes his way? Has anyone ever heard the saying, "what go around, comes back around?" The whole point of the story is to take a character who you hate and don't understand in the beginning (Abby), and have the ability as a sensible human being to understand, empathize, and sympathize with that character by the end. To understand why she did what she did. What? Nobody felt bad that Abby's entire life was destroyed when Joel murdered her dad? To the point that she couldn't even be intimate with her love interest, knowing the man that did that is still breathing the same air she is. What makes Joel and Ellie so much better that Abby? Other than the fact that you learn Abby's story last? The whole point of what made Joel such a fascinating character was that he was simultaneously a hero AND a villain. Saving Ellie was hardly a heroic thing to do, even Ellie would have disagreed with it. People need to understand that a major theme of the game was seeing and perceiving events and the world from certain character's point of view. To understand why each character does what they do and makes the decision's that they do. That's called great storythelling. To be able to understand why character's do what they do. Not just forever staying faithful to a villain just because he's a fan favorite. I applaud Naughty Dog for doing this. Bottomline is this, depending on your point of view, Joel Miller was a villain, and he got what was coming to him.… Expand

    Sin duda la continuación de una obra maestra espectacular, muerte y venganza en una historia muy bien contada, le doy un 9.5 con el único defecto que me hubiera gustado jugar aún más con Ellie, aunque la parte de Abby no me desagrada logras conectar con el personaje y entender sus motivos fue demasiado el tiempo jugando con ella, no deja de ser una obra maestra por esto.

    Es un juego genial, digno de esta saga para entender el porqué del final del juego hay que jugar tanto la parte de ellie como la de abby, el juego genera una empata al ver los 2 puntos de vista y de lo que pierde tanto ellie como abby en general una excelencia de juego.

It was those types of games where each moment with the characters are heartfelt and authentic, and that their thirsts for answers and vengeance fueled this gut-wrenching, anxiety-inducing storyline. Es un buen juego contando una buena historia con una buena narrativa el modo de juego es bueno pues es relativamente habitual un recurso: a modo de tutorial, para ofrecer al jugador secuencias de acción y exploración sin que queden artificialmente apelotonadas al inicio del juego y cuando todavía los personajes se están presentando, se recurre o a flashbacks de acción o a controlar otros personajes. Este es el caso de Abby, cuyas intenciones desconocemos, y que desde luego no podemos sospechar que será la persona que, poco tiempo después, asesine a Joel en presencia de Ellie.

    El juego hace que tengas demasiadas emociones encontradas ya que el juego trata de la venganza y como afecta pero sin embargo el juego nos hace sentir esas ganas de vengarse, te hace enojar de verdad disfrutas cuando matas a los enemigo por qué el juego realmente te pone en los zapatos del personaje. Tambien te hace poner el los zapatos de Abby pues antes no sabíamos su razón de matar a Joelpero después de jugar con ella puedes empatizar y yo cuando llegue al final la verdad no quería que muriera ninguna pues ambas ya habían sufrido bastante.Es muy desgarradora la parte de cuando ellie intenta tocar la guitarra pero obvio ya no suena igual entonces si te hace reflexionar sobre la venganza y sus consecuencias ellie lo pierde todo probablemente. También el juego deja muy abierto el final pues cuando ellie está en santa bárbara no lleva la pulsera que Dina le regaló lo que me hace deducir que pudo regresar a Jackson con Dina después de lo de santa bárbara, lo que confirma también por qué ellie no se sorprende al llegar a casa y que esté vacia.

I understand that people may not like it for some obvious reasons but i do not think this game deserves less than 6 points. The storytelling is amazing, we all get mad when a main character dies, but not just for that is a bad game (or movie, book, whatever). Is not the perfect game, the first one is a mile away better but this part 2 is a closure of a beautiful story which is not about revenge, is about forgiveness and care. We think Ellie lost everything, but that´s not true, when she spares Abby’s life she saw Joel, watching her, she remembered all they spent together and that´s not what Joel wanted for her... The night before Joel dies, she told him she wanted to forgive him, so forgiving Abby was kinda her redemption for all she had done (kill Abby’s friends) and that pardon for Joel. Again, is not the perfect game, but it deserves a 10/10 because is the end (maybe?) of one of the top 3 games in the century.… Expand

    Great game, receiving a lot of unfair criticism due to how progressive the game is and some risky (yet courageous) plot direction. Aside from the plot I think it would be hard for anybody to argue with the fact that the gameplay is exceptional and the graphics are very polished. Yes the plot may not go in the direction you want, but it is very well told and also very well thought out. AtGreat game, receiving a lot of unfair criticism due to how progressive the game is and some risky (yet courageous) plot direction. Aside from the plot I think it would be hard for anybody to argue with the fact that the gameplay is exceptional and the graphics are very polished. Yes the plot may not go in the direction you want, but it is very well told and also very well thought out. At times pacing can be a bit slow but when the action begins you forget all about the slower sections. I would recommend this game to anybody who likes great story telling and just flat out good gameplay with excellent level design and breathtaking scenery.… Expand

    Ich habe The Last of Us Part II nach einer Spieldauer von 29 Stunden auch abgeschlossen und war gegen Ende nervlich nahezu genauso am Ende wie unsere Protagonisten selbst. Die Diskussionen die entfacht wurden sind nach Abschluss des Spiels definitiv greif- und auch irgendwie nachvollziehbarer. Es ist kein Spiel für jedermann und sicherlich keines welches Spaß bereiten will, dafür sind dieIch habe The Last of Us Part II nach einer Spieldauer von 29 Stunden auch abgeschlossen und war gegen Ende nervlich nahezu genauso am Ende wie unsere Protagonisten selbst. Die Diskussionen die entfacht wurden sind nach Abschluss des Spiels definitiv greif- und auch irgendwie nachvollziehbarer. Es ist kein Spiel für jedermann und sicherlich keines welches Spaß bereiten will, dafür sind die Folgen und Lektionen der Charaktere nämlich zu schwer zu ertragen. Das Spiel zerrt an den Gefühlen und Emotionen, lehrt einem den Hass und verunsichert gleichzeitig wieder.

    Ich fühlte mich schlecht als sich im Verlauf des zweiten Story-Teils meine Gefühlte für einen Charakter, dem ich zu Beginn nichts weiter als den Tod wünschte, sich grundlegend zu verändern schienen. Diese Person wuchs mir tatsächlich entgegen meinem Willen ans Herz und ihre Erlebnisse öffneten mir soweit die Augen, dass ich jegliche meiner Taten (bzw. unserer bis dato geliebten Protagonisten) in Frage stellen musste. Der Wunsch nach Rache mündete über zum Wunsch nach Gerechtigkeit. Dass es ein Spiel schafft mich emotional so zu verändern ist schlicht eine große Leistung, wenn es auch gleichzeitig eine maximal böse Angelegenheit war.

    Auf das Gameplay will ich gar nicht groß eingehen, das Prinzip ist nahezu gleich wie beim Vorgänger.... wenn ich aber Revue passiere dann punktet der zweite Story-Teil vor allem in Sachen Level-Design, Action und kommt auch noch abwechslungsreicher daher als der Beginn des Spiels. Was hier an Schauplätzen und Inszenierungen geliefert wurden ist wirklich nicht von dieser Welt.

    Für mich ist The Last of Us Part II ein wahres Traumspiel und eines, welches mich auch Tage danach nicht loszulassen scheint. Ein intensives, unangenehmes und in meinen Augen wichtiges Werk, welches das Medium Spiel auf ein neues Level anhebt. New Game Plus ist bereits gestartet und die Platin Jagd begonnen.

Yes, I can see why some people are upset but there's no reason to give it a 0/10. SPOILERS BELOW! The game is gorgeous and Joel's death is possibly the only reason why Ellie would go on such a journey once again.

    Finally, at first I too didn't like Abby. However, as you get to progress through her story, you see that both Ellie's and Abby's story are a parallel of each other. As for the ending, I liked it. The cycle of violence is broken now, Ellie won't be chased down by Lev now that she didn't kill Abby.     The graphics are awesome, the gameplay is perfect you can feel the way that the NPCs, the story is fantastic in the end you have a reflection of whats the meaning of revenge and what is good or wrong.

I literally cried in the end because I really love Ellie and Joel and it hurts to see what happened to them. Their relationship meant so much to me and now they are just gone… I understand why Joel did what he did in part 1. Ellie was all he had, so he couldn't lost her like he lost Sarah. So he saved her. Killed for that. But you know what? I don't care. Because... I would do exactly the same thing. A little girl was alive. Even if it was just for a few years, she was happy. So for me, it was all worth it.
    I wanted Abby to be dead. But then Ellie would lost herself and I don’t want that for her. Joel wouldn’t want that for her. He always protected her from this cruel world and wanted her to stay that happy sarcastic kid. She gave him a light that he thought was gone forever. She gave that light to me, I learnt to enjoy small things, just to be happy with what I have. Cause one day it may just not be here anymore.
    TLoU showed me how brutal people can be. And how they can change. Once, at the end of the fight, there was one women left unarmed. She begged for mercy. But i killed her. I knew that if I let her live, she would shoot me in the back. Just one death of hundreds, but it really got me. It felt real. Like I really killed someone. At that moment I realised that people in that world don’t always want to be cruel. It’s like “kill or be killed”, you just don’t really have a choice. I will never forgive Abby, but I understand why she did what she did. So as I understand Ellie. She couldn’t let it go. She knew that everything is gone too far, but just couldn’t stop. And I’m happy that, eventually, she could.
    This is amazing game. I’ve never experienced anything like that. After part 2 I replayed the first game and all those moments with Joel, every their dialogue, it felt so nice seeing them together again, but also sad, cause I know how it’s gonna end…These games taught me to appreciate life and see the light even if I feel lost and empty in this **** dark around.     I'm all up for constructive critique, but some of the negative reviews up here are just borderline ridiculous.     One can argue about taste, but to call this well-crafted piece of entertainment garbage or rating it anywhere below 4 or 5 just boggles my mind, especially considering how modern mainstream gaming is overshadowed by big companies producing stale and repetitive games over and over again and just changing the name tag (miraculously getting better user ratings than this).

    All things aside, the story is extremely dark, violent and ruthless and i deeply admire Naughty Dog for taking a rather unconventional path. It just seems as if most people were upset about the first 5 hours and didn't even try to experience the game with an open mind, let alone try to take a somewhat objective stance on what the developers were trying to convey. People who dismiss the game as just another dull revenge story seemed to miss that it's much more than that. The story deals with guilt, regret and forgiveness, and more often than not kept me thinking about certain values in life. The game does a great job on making you feel that sweet pain, slowly burning and getting more intense up until the point the credits roll around 35 hours later (on hard difficulty - highly recommended). It really feels like a maturation process for Ellie.

    The game has an unusual tension arc and often relies on flashbacks (probably the best scenes of the game), but as the story goes on, you will really appreciate what the game is trying to make you feel, considering you want to feel it. It also does a great job on expanding the TLOU-universe and creating some interesting new perspectives. In my opinion, the characters motives are reasonable and the legacy of the first game is carried on with dignity. I love games that stick to me even after the credits roll and TLOU 2 did just that. I just needed to get that off my chest after seeing how divided the reactions were. I'm glad to call it one of my favorite games on PS4, right behind the remastered version of the first game.    … Expand

After being a huge fan of the first game I was eager to play the second to say the least, Ellie and Joel are two of my favourite characters from any game and I know tlou2 has had a lot of criticism but for me personally I loved the game from start to finish, the gameplay is perfection and effortless, each chapter of the story offers you something slightly different and your surroundings are magnificently done with even fine details not being missed. Yes some of the story frustrated me to a point that I rushed through some of it just to get back to Ellie but by the time I completed it I fully understood why they made me play through as Abby and the final fight had me rooting for both characters ( im still team Ellie) and not to mention the infected are still as intense and combat with the different groups is very fun, each group giving you a different challenge. So yes the first game was amazing! But this second one is definitely better even though we lost our beloved Joel ( which broke my heart ) there's as much heart to it as the first one with more skill and drive to get you were you need to be, big thumbs up from me!… Expand

This is one of the only games I’ve played where my character’s exhaustion mirrored my own. The fights are long, difficult, stressful, and mentally taxing. It’s the best depiction I’ve ever seen of one person fighting insurmountable odds in a video game, ever. The story is beyond incredible as well, provided you have the emotional maturity for it. Characters you love and connect to will die in brutal, unfair ways completely out of your control. Characters will make decisions you wish they wouldn’t, and consequences for previous actions, whether they were justified or not, inevitably make their ways to the characters with zero remorse. It’s a hard thing to watch, but the story is one that will stick with me for the rest of my life. Overall, the complaints I have are minute compared to the praises. There are certain plot points that feel rushed, or things that could have been explained more fully. But they won’t hinder the absolute **** 20+ hour experience that is The Last of Us 2. There is nothing like this game and I doubt there ever will be again. Don’t let the haters ruin this for you, try it out yourself!… Expand

    The Last Of Us II is an improvement on the first in nearly every way while still keeping what made the first game special. Story and characters are well done as expected and the game plays and feels amazing. In keeping with the spirit of the first game, The Last of Us Part II has become one of the best games of this generation.

I feel bad for people who genuinely did not enjoy the game, but I am sure many simply decided they would not like it no matter what and thus ruined the entire experience and meaning of the game for themselves (which is a huge shame). 10/10I loved every second of it.     Nie rozumiem czemu tyle hejtu wylało się na tą grę. Gra w dobitny sposób pokazuje jaki świat postapo jest brutalny i że każdy może zginąć że wystarczy tylko się wychylić za osłony i można dostać kulkę (Manny). Wiem że Śmierć Joela wielu osobą się nie podobała bo np. Chcieli aby zginął w inny sposób np. Kogoś osłonił swoim ciałem ale nie jest tak i moim zdaniem dobrze jego Śmierć miała zrobić to że będziemy nienawidzić Abby i jej znajomych a gdy nią zaczniemy grać wszystko zrozumiemy czemu to zrobiła i że wcale nie jest taka zła . Mną wstrząsło to że w czasie kiedy Ellie zabija jej przyjaciół to Abby ratuje Yarę i Leva. Gdy Ellie może zabić Abby to ją zostawia tak jak Abby zostawiła ją i Dinę.Abby zaczęła opiekować się Levem jak Joel ellie . Co do samego zakończenia to myślę że Ellie najpierw wróciła do Jackson do Diny bo gdy jest na farmie to nie ma zesobą broni i ma inne ubranie. Myślę że poszła tam wybaczyć wkońcu Joelowi    … Expand

    An incredible experience. Always been a huge fan of TLOU since it first came out. I loved both the main game and Left Behind and played them both several times to platinum the game. I have always considered TLOU to be my favourite game and scrawled through every nook and cranny to find every detail possible for it. I recently just got a platinum on TLOUII and I loved every minute of it. It was honestly one of the most emotional games I’ve ever played. It made me feel emotions that I have never felt in any other type of game. I’ve barely felt some of the emotions I’ve felt playing this game with some movies. It made me cry, laugh, tense, vindictive and remorseful, one emotion after the other. It was honestly such an emotional rollercoaster. When I finished the game, I couldn’t sleep properly for two nights over the emotions I felt. The music is unbelievable, which was always to be expected. It definitely helped with controlling my emotions. The graphics are out of this world. I have a Basic PS4, and it ran so smoothly with breath taking sceneries. The details are everything. I thought RDR2 took it to the next level but TLOUII ran with their ideas and elevated it even further. The hidden details, nods and metaphors to the first game were incredible. The character development was something else entirely. I really felt like I connected with these characters over time. No character trait or flaw was without reasoning. Even though this game doesn’t spell out every detail to you, it didn’t have to if you paid attention to the game, the background and the characters, the notes, etc. The acting and voice acting was nothing like I’ve ever seen before. Ashley Johnson blew me away with her acting for Ellie and brought it to the next level for me. The story, which is the controversial part here, was exactly the direction I expected them to take since I’ve dreamt of there being a sequel and it didn’t disappoint. It took my expectations and brought it to such an amazing place. The contrast between emotions being felt in the moment and the flashbacks were such a nice contrast, as well as being such heartfelt and deep moments to the story. There’s other things to note where they elevated the game: the combat was a huge improvement, the upgrades (both player and workbenches), stealth was a bigger focus and was more hashed out, the puzzles were improved, the AI was incredible and as a person with a disability, the accessibility was so touching to see.     It was superb how they conducted the story. They ran away from the expected and did an incredible job putting you deeply on the skin of both characters side, making you understand their decisions. It's a perfect mix of feelings that you have during the journey.

    I literally made an account just to review this game. There's a ton of mixed reviews but it's genuinely one of my favorite games now. There's a ton of parallel writing that plays into a genuinely cruel and tragic world. The characters we play as are uniquely foiled and their stories capture you entirely. The game is beautiful graphically it is incredible to see how a PS4 can run that game, the city of Seattle despite not being an open world and not giving you the possibility of going back to a previous point it looks very very big almost as if you were in a real city , the story at the beginning is heartbreaking makes you mourn the death of Joel and makes you want to kill all those responsible, the game talks about revenge and being blinded by it can leave you empty inside and leave you with nothing making you lose what else you want in the end Ellie loses everything and you will feel that Ellie should have been more grateful to Joel. in short it is a game that you have to play if or if to decide if you like it or not since the end may leave you waiting for more but if you pay attention to how the characters feel you will understand what they are going through.… Expand
