Геймплей интересный, а самое главное то, что игра вызывает те или иные эмоции по отношению к героям и к истории. The other main complaint seems to be that it shows you that NPC's that are slaughtered in their thousands have lives and families and you , to quote Bill Munny, "take away everything he's got and everything he's ever gonna have."
There are many other games that allow you kill everything in sight and a few like Sniper Elite even give you an achievement for clearing the map but this like a few other games shows the consequence of your actions.
The 0 star reviews demonstrate that, despite what the ESRB claim, there is a big difference between being 17+ and being mature.

Joel’s death, while underwhelming and a little too early in the story, it was realistic and bada** in a way. A group of people hunted him down, leaving their own people just for revenge, while I’m still sad about Joel’s end, I think it was the right decision to open the game with.

Ellie’s journey from the wanting revenge to finding family with Dina to losing everything for revenge on Abby, that she later learns it is not necessary, and Abbys relationship with Lev is a parallel to her and Joel, was beautiful and well crafted story arch. Then the bold decision of having playing Abby for half the game. The first chapter I was pissed off, but as I continued I found her heart and her character and I grew to like her (although I still wanted her dead the entire game). Her relationship with Lev, like I said, did parallel Ellie and Joel in a different slightly twisted way, and I loved it.

The final conclusion did leave a weird taste in my mouth, with Ellie not fulfilling what she left her family to do and having her end this story alone was a unique choice. And having Abby live was a surprise that I still do not know if I want, but I will accept. I understand why people aren’t happy with the conclusion or the addition of playing Abbys story, but I still believe that the story was brilliant and a true masterpiece. As far sequels go this exceeded my expectations and more.

Also to add, the criticism of the lesbian story line is just ridiculous. We live in a world that this should not bother anyone and it is not pushing an agenda. This is the new normal and people either need to accept it, or just grow up and learn to ignore it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There's a saying that goes 'Quality over Quantity'. After finishing the game, I largely felt Naughty Dog tried to ride the line between quality and quantity with this game. I felt completely satisfied with the gameplay. It provides a good mixture of challenge, engagement, fluidity, and fun. The graphical achievements of this game are very impressive, with only a few things here and there that could have used more polishing. Dumb things to care about like the waves at the main screen after you finish the game could be a little better. The story is what everyone cares about when it comes to TLOU. This one was very frustrating to accept at times. I loved the game right up until the point at which you play the Seattle timeline as Abby. I just felt resistant to it. By the end of Abby's Seattle timeline, I understood and accepted the need for her story. It still felt a little hard to buy in that she'd go back for the kids or abandon her respected WLF position. Abby's story is where I felt they rode a little more on the quantity side instead of focusing on quality. No matter how you see it, the story is balanced with hatred and mercy on both ends. It's well-done, and the fact that a lot of people hate it means that ND has done a great job making players care for their characters. If someone dislikes the game because Joel dies, they just can't see the bigger picture. Actions have consequences, karma, etc. Expand

Never before have I played a game where such opposing feelings are Firing through me like I just stuck a fork in an outlet! I found myself in awe playing through the majority of encounters, spending hours exploring both views and hardships and relating to them. The story is absolutely beautiful, yet depressing, roller coaster of experiences. Rarely in the art form of game development do you get such an emotional and cinematic experience. The gameplay may get a little repetitive but there is just enough variation and reward that it didn’t bother me. The graphics and animations are incredible. The seamless flow through combat, kill scenes, and story elements are a testament to the future of gaming. The story will not be approved by everyone and by the end of it I sat there staring at my screen contemplating the journey. For those complaining I can only assume they prefer plots akin to Saturday morning cartoons. This is a dark ride and I didn’t agree with some choices the characters made, but I can appreciate the grand scope and the reality of this harsh world and thank naughty dog for the amazing and rare experience created! Although I read the leaks and felt devastated with how it turned out to be, I still managed to absolutely enjoy this game and didn't understand where all the hate was coming from, the game develops the characters enough to have sympathy and to understand different perspectives and how in reality they both really are similar in the context of revenge and how it really destroys people more than give them closure. The graphics of the game are incredibly stunning, the level designs were great and the world really felt real even though it's during the apocalypse. Playing this on my PS4 pro there was still a few rendering issues but all in all, a beautiful game. The story. Now the story was an incredible journey to be a part of, at first you have such a strong dislike towards Abby but as you progress through the game, you really come to terms with why she did what she did and how in reality her and Ellie are much alike, you learn that Abby isn't as terrible as the viewers might make her out to be, and by the end of the game you really do end up sympathising with her, the game highlights the PTSD which both Ellie and Abby suffer and how the motivation of getting revenge is all due to just having their own mental closure, but you soon come to realise that revenge brings Guilt, which you can see throughout the game. Not until both individuals do the "right" thing is when they both finally have their own sense of closure from the death of their loved ones. The character development really worked great with both of the main protagonists in this game and allows you to understand both of their point of views.

As much as you sympathise with Ellie, you end up feeling sorry for Abby too, because they both suffer from the same terrible fate and they both have the same motives against each other.

To any fan of the first game who's not fazed by social themes, I hope this "review" will find you. First and foremost, I'd give this game a 8/10 for its gameplay and graphics. This is a personal opinion but the 10 I'm giving it really aims for the story because I honestly though this was a masterpiece in emotional storytelling.

Here's a bit about me. I never ever review anything. I never review games or movies but with this one, I was a little fed up of feeling ashamed for loving it and wanted to give a voice to those who enjoyed it as well. You disagree? That's fine. You want to bury voices like mine for enjoying it? Take a walk.

The game is obviously divided and I'm not going to get into this because I feel like it's pretty clear. There are many people who honestly hated it and others who honestly loved it. Both are ok but what I have a problem with is those who bombed it (or counter bombed it for that matter). Maybe we'll never have a honest take on how people feel about this game. All I can tell is I loved it.

I'm a huge fan of the first game so my bias is no less (but no worse) than those who hate gratuitously and even though I feel like they made some very bold choices with this one, I'm more than satisfied. The story was my favorite part. I lived quite a bit through the characters. I was shocked more than once and forced to feel empathy, sadness, pain and many more through the lives of those characters. I lived in their skin and the journey was quite the experience. I'm on my second playthrough. I'm not a bot review lifiting the game. Anyway, I'm not here to spoil the game and I don't want people to live it the way I did. I'm just a little annoyed by all the negative reviews shaming people like me for loving it and making us feel like we don't have a brain because of it. For the record, I'm a caucasian heterosexual male in his 30s and I don't feel like this should be said but here it goes.

The gameplay was a great upgrade on the first game but it doesn't reinvent the wheel. I give it 8/10 simply because shooting it so painful but I'm a pc gamer anyway. It's still much better than the previous game. Many upgrades in animations and movement, stealth has been upgraded and everything feels like you can regret your decisions much more. If the game had stayed the same as TLOU, I'd give it a 5/10 and I'm a huge fan but man, they upgraded it. I do feel the gameplay stays truthful to itself, I'm just not a fan of it. Maybe I'd change my mind if the game was keyboard and mouse compatible, but I digress.

All this to say, if the social themes aren't thing that are bound to hurt you, I say give this masterpiece a chance and give it a FULL chance. Don't be stopped by the beginning of it, play through the full thing and appreciate it for the piece of art that it is. Be a freethinker and don't let others, even me, tell you what to do with it. Just, play it yourself and see for yourself.

    Thanks for reading this.

I went into this game without seeing the spoilers but also with an expectation that the story was lacking or was to "woke", I finished the game at this point and I was happy to find out this was not true, it takes an unpredictable approach which makes sense in it's universe and for me it really delivered, it forces you to see things from a perspective that you were not ready for and takes changes on a narrative that, for me was a great experience.
In 2020 with so many **** in modern games it's nice that someone is still making good experiences like this.
And just to add a little bit of review detail, the gameplay is good if you liked the 1st one, the graphics are great, the acting in general is top notch, the exploration is a little disappointing (too linear), the game is not without its flaws, but if you miss this experience because of the negativity this game is receiving you are doing a disservice to yourself and if you saw the spoilers before experiencing this, then I feel bad for you.

For me it was totally worth the money, congratulations on a great game.

PS: don't play this without going through the story of the first one, if you don't wanna play the 1st one find a way to watch the story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After the success of the original game series the developers and writers championed story telling over player choice and interactivity. This was a bold choice that enabled the studio to tell the in depth and captivating story they wanted to tell, to great critical and user acclaim. The linear story of TLOU was heavily praised for the risks that it took and the manner in which it drew the audience in and captivated them.

This brings use to Part II where the studio sought to build on the success of the first game and the add on story to further push the boundaries and subvert the expectations of the audience. However, after heaping so much praise for the development of the characters it was always going to be controversial to kill off the protagonist from the first game. Let alone do it in such a brutal and gut wrenching fashion while undermining some of the well established character. This was bold and risky and as the old adage goes, "if you live by the sword you die by the sword".

I truly believe that if they had told the story in a different fashion and had you play as Abby first and kept her objective partly cloaked. Then had her storyline end with the death of Joel you would have had a much better chance of the audience understanding the plight of the character. Starting off as having Abby kill Joel was always going to be a tough hill to climb to redeem her in the eyes of the player base. First impressions matter and unfortunately the story did not do enough to win the audience back to make Abby a likable character.

Opening up a dialogue regarding the morality of killing people in this post apocalyptic world is profound, however it is somewhat undermined by then murdering a lot of NPCs for the majority of the game. Do these characters and their back stories somehow not matter? You can't have it both ways and not be very hypocritical. Abby's father from TLOU was in no way a clear cut "good guy" and yet his death was not treated as an overly "special" event, what is to say that any of the numerous people that you kill as Abby or Ellie in Part II wont have avenging families in the next game? The futility of revenge is a key part of the morality message in the game, however it just doesn't quite stick the landing. It's the "press X to grieve" syndrome where by the game wants us to care about people's deaths when it suits them.

The game is beautiful and well designed with some real care and attention put into the upgrading animations and graphics. They also added jump.

Despite the beautiful game design the series has always been championed by its story and game mechanics and forcing you to play a linear storyline can work very well to immerse a player. However, when it doesn't work and you are forcing a player to be a character and undertake actions that you do not believe in it is jarring and un-enjoyable.
If you wish your game to be judged on its story and cinematic experience and also want to take risks that you know will shock and confront the audience. Then be prepared that the audience may sharply pull in the other direction.

Then have been waiting for every game they release and finishing all the uncharted games multiple times. Then playing the last of us while blindingly trusting that the story is gonna be really good based on the other games, it got even more impressed when i finished it, i was in love with the story and the relationship between Ellie and Joel. I finished the game over 5 times and i couldn't explain the amount of excitement i had for Part 2. Having finished the second gamed, i am terribly disappointed with how the story went. I had no problem with killing of main characters in any project as long it has a meaning to it and is done properly not just for shock value. But killing of the main protagonist in the first hour of the game not only decreases the amount of interest i had for the rest of the story, but also making me feel like the character that i grow up loving feel like such a side character for the way he was killed of. Joel in the first game was known to be such a bad ass character that was careful with every move he make in this post-apocalyptic world which made us look to him as not only a father figure but as a more bad ass john wick. So making him die like that did give his arc in the game justice. I was okay with the rest of the story until the point they make you play as Abby. whatever her reason was for killing Joel i would've never liked her or emphasized with her having killed my favourite character in the beginning of the game. But what makes it more stupid is that they make her father a random nbc from the first game that you could've literally killed in various ways.
forcing me to liking her by making the player go through a really uninteresting story involving two kids is just gonna make me hate the story even more.
As for the ending i don't have a problem with having Ellie living a happy life in a family and leaving Abby alone. But making Ellie go through all of this just to spare her life at the last second was just stupid and was just stretching the story. Making Ellie kill all those characters just to spare the one responsible for Joel's death is just really stupid. The only thing that makes this game playable is the great graphics and the nearly perfect gameplay and clever scenarios where you feel really challenged as a player.

Having us play as Ellie is a natural progression and I liked seeing where she and Joel had ended up. Joel's death was sudden and brutal and could have been a fantastic plot hook for the rest of the game, unfortunately the rest of the game doesn't do him justice.

The Ellie half of the story is competent but nothing special. The flashbacks with her and Joel proved that they could have made a fantastic game and were highlights of the entire story. I'm not gonna spoil this part of the game because i genuinely believe its worth playing. So after Murdering half a city, the Ellie crew are forced to make a hard decision and give up the hunt for Abby (the person who killed Joel). Then the gods of story exposition have her show up in a cut scene where she murders one of the only likable new characters and holds you at gunpoint.

    Then it cuts to black.

This is where things go very wrong as you are forced to play though many hours as Abby in a poor attempt to make you feel sorry for her. The story had me hooked enough and the gameplay was good enough that i was willing to suffer though the boring tripe that was the Abby half of the game. It was like a teenage love drama and the only bright side was that i knew most of the cast would be dead soon. I'm not sure if i can remember a single one of their names so clearly they were well written and fully developed characters.

At some point she meets a child who happens to also be a transsexual because the gods of story exposition were feeling extremely heavy handed that day. I was then forced into another couple of hours of that weren't even related to the main plot. I wasn't sure it was possible, but the new characters were even less interesting than the teenage drama crew.

As far as the political stuff is concerned, its nowhere near as bad as some of the review bombers would have you believe. Although i admit It can be a little preachy at times its usually just sat quietly in the background. I do have to agree with the people that think the whole concept of a trans woman going though all the necessary procedures to transition in a time where most people are making shivs out of broken pairs of scissors is completely ridiculous. I could keep talking about the political stuff but whats the point? Its boring, its been done to death and video games are meant to be fun.

So we finally are back though the Abby half of the story and it gets resolved by having us beat the crap outta Ellie for killing the Teen drama crew and then letting her go... My score keeps going down as I write this. We go through all that to have it resolved in a 3 minute fist fight. Apparently Abby didn't learn that letting the Ellie (The literal angel of death that has murdered half of Seattle) live will get all your friends murdered.

The last bit of this review is going to be as token as the last bit of the game. You play as Ellie again. She gets PTSD, leaves her wonderful peaceful life with her wife and child to travel to California to go kill Abby (again). You then play as Abby and get to watch her get punched in the face by a burly man. You then play as Ellie, murder some biker dudes, rescue some slaves and finally catch up to Abby. Then you have a fight in the sea and let her go. After abandoning your whole life (twice) and murdering most of the people in two cities.

Gameplay 9/10 - It takes elements that worked in the first game and makes them work better.

Visuals 10/10 - Stunning, i could almost smell the fungus and regret.

Story 3/10 - Play the first half and then go and act out your own ending with sock puppets. it'll probably be more fulfilling and wont take up 15 hours (unless you want it to).

This review 6/10 - I wrote it at 3AM and I still think I did a better job than TLOU P2 writers.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you love TLOU because of the heartwarming feeling that the game gives you, then please don't get involved with TLOU2. If you are looking for generic gameplay, fantastic graphic, and some spice in the storyline (but still a wired choice), then this might be the game for you.
For those who don't want to read a full review, you can look at my short summary here (or the full summary below):
TLOU gives you violence, lies, and heartwarming feeling that emerge through the main characters' relationship.
TLOU2 gives you violence, lies, (questionable) moral dilemma trick, and sad and gloomy story.

    ===========SPOILER AHEAD===========
First, let's look at gameplay. I have to tell you guys that I didn't enjoy the gameplay of the first game. As you encounter the same enemy over and over again and your tactic revolved around sneak behind them and stealth kill, then re-establish your stealth again. There are some shooting in the game depending on how good your resource management is, but the gunplay itself feels clumsy to me. However, the game does provide you a vast variety of environments in each chapter as you go through the story but they don't change any aspect of the main tactic. I get bored in just 2 or 3 hours of the game and just wanted to rush to the next cutscene as fast as possible. TLOU2 still has the same gameplay with little to no refinement. For me, the overall experience of gameplay would be 4/10.

    ------- Graphic/Sound effect and ost/Voice actor -------
We don't have to talk about any of this topic because they are AWESOME (10/10).

    ------- Story summary/Climax/Take away -------
As you may see the game tries to get you to sympathize with both characters, shows you that the revenge only causes more damage to you and people around you, and forgiving can be a hard choice and even if you took the choice you still have to live with sorrow. Which might sound great for a game-takeaway right?
Well, the thing that annoyed me is I don't understand why ND just ditch the plot that gives a heartwarming and good feeling (even though the world is cruel and violent) to the player in TLOU and changes it to a gloomy and sad storyline. I know this is subjective, but I did set my expectation for a whole different thing (Nevertheless, who am I to judge? It's a ND's game, not my game).
Finally, the reason why I give this game a 5/10 game.
As a story-driven game, the story itself should be the most important element. However, the ending, take-away, or whatever you might call it doesn't prove or justify any moral question. Because even if you (As Abby or Ellie) spare life of a villain to prove that there are some good deeds in the world (or in the character), it still doesn't hold the weight against the whole story. Let's think about it, we all know that every character in this game is evil right? They have to kill many other humans just to get what? Medicine, information, resources, you name it, or even just to cross the bridge. And they will likely continue their killing as the story goes by (or in TLOU3). Showing the player just one or two characters' revenge-forgiveness cycle just doesn't seem to make any sense in a game that you have to kill to proceed with the story. I'm pretty sure that all the people in the post-apocalypse world have their own "good" reason for their action and there will by Abby2, Abby3, Abby4, and many more. For me, to choose such a plot just to set up a cheap moral dilemma trick or make an ending seem awesome to some audience proves that the writer is very incompetent. He/She might get blind from how good he/she might think the story is, then overlooked or unable to realize the main gameplay or the whole world of the game.
My brother said to me after we finished the game: What's the point of spending a 20-ish hour in this revenge plot as there are many more to come for revenge.
Me: Drove off for trade-in TLOU2.

Lastly, This game can never be a 10/10 (do you think the witcher3 is a joke?) neither 0/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Okay here's my honest review of the game from start to finish:

The story... I figured that's why all you are here negatively reviewing about. Here's my take from the story. The theme of TLOU has always been survival horror game and joel's actions at the end of part 1 led to the beginning of part 2. The central theme of this game was based on revenge since Joel did in fact get murdered by Abby and Ellie wanted revenge. But as the game progressed you begin to realize its a SURVIVAL game and there is no clear line between good and bad people in this setting. Abby did what she did because that's what she felt was right and that's okay. Ellie choosing to let get go was done because that's what she felt was right and that also is okay. I believe the moral intention of this game was compassion. Abby initially was ruthless killer but as the game progressed she began feeling compassion when Yara and Lev joined her. Her desire to keep them alive allowed for her to feel this emotion she never had for so long. Ellie on the other hand felt this when she was with Joel, and upon his death she never got to reconcile with Joel leaving lots of emotions misplaced into anger. She then at the end regains this compassion based on her flashbacks of Joel. Two people meeting the same emotions but at different times. Thats why she didn't kill her, and that's why abby refused to fight. Their both now at least contempt (For now) TLOU pt.3?

The Negatives of the Story - ND should have been more blatant that there were 2 main characters in this story instead of telling us its an epic story about Ellie's quest for revenge. If fans were shown this at the beginning then there many have not been a big backlash of main character as they lashed out. Also, killing joel at the beginning with no reason as to why until you play as Abby almost 20 hours later seems to cause some (not me) people confusion. I believe if they portrayed the story in a different chronological order it could have caused for a different outcome of how the story was understood. The viewer could have understood Abby's decision and built character development at the same time to fully justify her actions leading to what transpires in Seattle. If her origin was portrayed in epilogue, and ND marketed the game as "revenge" not saying as to who's revenge it was, it would have led to a greater understanding with more clarity.

All in all I enjoyed the game. The visuals, soundtrack and overall gameplay were heavily improved from the first. I really like how there were encounters of enemies and infected in one setting as that led to new ways of playing which the previous hasn't done. I hope they continue Part 3 as Dina's disappearance from the homestead leads us to lots of questions. The same with Abby and Lev as they drove off into the ocean meeting old fireflies?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Despite the arguable discontinuity and plot holes, The Last of Us 2 is a genius horror game. It f#$ks with the players so well that many can’t deal with it. There is certainly a way to appreciate this game, but if you aren’t a proper fan of horror, you might not like it. You see, the main narrative elements and techniques are designed to evoke unease, tension and alienation in the player, which are an intricate part of psychological horror: Joel’s cold-blooded murder, Ellie’s mental downward spiral as she gets caught up in her thirst for vengeance, and perhaps most unsettling, the sudden handover to Abby, who is not only the “enemy” but also a female character who challenges mainstream expectations—those arms!—thus creating a deeper sense of estrangement towards the new protagonist. To be honest, I hated Abby when I first had to use her, but part of that was just me being a shallow prick. Yet there was no denying that this narrative twist was something I had never seen in a game, evoking strong feelings of angst and unease. And to think that this was accidental would be taking away due credit from the writers. So, I stuck to it and looked at it for what it was, a bold plot twist, and Abby grew on me. By the time I was returned to Ellie, I felt completely disoriented, which is exactly where the game wanted me to be. Because unlike its predecessor, The Last of Us 2 went full out on the horror elements. And if anyone wonders why everyone in this story is despicable, well, that’s the genre for you, so don’t expect existential optimism. As for the rest of the storyline, I would call it a soap opera. It’s very melodramatic at times, conveniently pieced together in the most awkward of ways, but it accomplishes what it sets out to do: to facilitate amazing scenes that otherwise could not have seen the light of day, such as the final war on the islands, or the final and very disturbing fight between Ellie and Abby (if you’d never played Abby, the shock would have been greatly mitigated). It’s not at all like the first, and I understand people’s disappointment. However, I personally can’t fathom how someone could have expected a sequel after playing the first, since none of it demanded a follow up. The innocence between Ellie and Joel had been slayed, and spending an entire game dealing with Joel’s lie would have been painfully dull. Perhaps that’s why they killed him off, because there was no way around it. Regardless, I also don’t know what people wanted out of the second, and probably neither do they. Making a sequel can be an incredibly daunting task. Perhaps some players might have been satisfied with some inane town builder in which you go out seeking provisions and materials to further expand the settlement, all the while eliminating the infectious in the region. All I can say is thank you Naughty Dogs for not plying to the temptation of creating another mainstream and uninspired game like that. This game was a hell of ride, like nothing I’ve played before. Not to mention the step forward in terms of accessibility! Most games these days don't even feature the option to fully remap the controls, this game has that and THEN some. I cannot express how wonderful it is to know that this is going to result in an industry wide push towards making AAA games more acccessible, and for that ALONE I would give this game a 10/10. The perfomance by the cast is phenomenal, and the story is absolutely extraordinary. The choice to make the setting an active warzone as the undercurrent to the brewing tension between the two protagonists was a fantastic choice, and works well to build towards the climax of the story. It felt like an absolute dream to play. Could not possibly recommend it enough. I'd give it a 12/10 if I could. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I don't get all the negative reviews but each to his own here is mine:

This game is by far the best story game I have played til this day!
The Last of us Part I was my favorite game of all time prior to this and I was afraid that the second part will not be able to compete with that but in my opinion Naughty Dog raised the bar once more.

I think if you come to this game expecting the same thing you got from the first one you are going to be disappointed. Why? In the first game you are playing someone who is seemingly "the good guy" joel on his mission to take ellie to the fireflies. Yes you are killing people but mostly to fulfill your mission to reach the destination and maybe find a cure to save humanity. Even in the end when you decide against it there is some kind of happy end - not for mankind but for ellie and joel which leaves you with a good feeling.

Now here comes the second part - and challenges all of this! It's showing you that there are no "good and bad guys" Joel has been a bad guy from Abby's perspective for killing her father and who wouldn't think the same of a person like that. Naughty Dog took a big risk in this game of making the player feel uncomfortable with decisions and even the decisions the game makes for you. It shows you in a brutal way that there is no point in revenge and behind every person in the game there is someone that has friends, family, pets and everything else without being evil from the get go.

This was a brilliant move! They could have taken the safe route and make sure everybody loves the game but they didn't and I hope they won't in the future if there is a Tlou 3 coming.

When you get to the moment where abby kills joel we hardly know her. I myself thought: oh my god what a crazy person and group what is wrong with them! When they put you into abby's shoes after half of the game I wasn't that happy at first either thinking about playing the game as her now.
BUT the more you play her and see her side of the story the more relatable she becomes and the more you, the player, starts questioning if the Journey of Ellie and Joel has been such a great one so far. I think if they flipped it around - playing abby as a child in the first game and building up the relationship between her, her friends and her father. And in the end there's joel (in that case just a random guy) killing her dad everybody would hate him just as much as they hated Abby in this part.

In my opinion the game is a lot deeper than a lot of people might think and it makes a huge difference if you play it by yourself or just watch someone play it. You also have to be very open minded and see the last of us as a world with a lot of space for different storys. This series is not just about ellie and joel it's about different people and groups stuck in the same messed up, post apocalyptic world and how they handle it.

    To wrap things up:
will everybody love the story? - probably not but you have that with every game, tastes are different
Is the gameplay revolutionary? - no, but it's solid like the first part with a few improvements
Are the characters super deep? - The main characters for sure, some of the side characters could have been given a few more background infos but you get to know enough to understand why your main protagonists act in the ways they do
Graphics? not a criteria anymore nowadays, games do look great and this one proves that the ps4 is capable of doing amazing things
Music, Sound, Voice Acting - amazing too and never felt off

Whoever made it that far: thanks for reading!

I hope other games take what LoU2 did and push the industry into a golden age of video games. The game is purely immersive and I found myself playing late into the night never really know when one chapter ended and the next began aside from the hard cuts. The gameplay feels like a nice evolution in the first with even more ways to approach each encounter. The story needs to be played to get the full effect. Those bashing this game for not understanding the underlying message or because their expectations were not met need to play it through first and also maybe grow as people. Like I said this story/game/message is mature one and one that is frankly needed especially in this current time. There are no heroes and the villians are...well without giving anything away, the subtle and briefly noted characters in the game that lead the major groups involved. But this game does not give the player the direct good vs bad setting. It lives in the middle and more games and companies should explore these gray areas along with the trials, emotions, and choices involved in living in the gray.

More stories like this need to be told and the way they worked a plethora of diverse groups into the game should be applauded. Play the game! It is a truely marvelous piece of art!
I for one hope they can find a way to expand even further on the universe built, even if that means leaving the characters behind, and exploring more concepts with this masterful waybof story telling.

This is a post-apocalypse and you find fault with the characters for the fact that they are in the wrong orientation ... Game 10/10, game bomb 100% of this year ... The Last of Us Part II is hands down the most ambitious storytelling I’ve ever experienced in a video game and I loved/hated every single second of it.

i will try and keep the spoilers to a minimum.

i played through last of us 1 and the DLC as a recap and was charged up for the second one.
so last of us part 2, to start with the graphics are amazing to look at on the ps4 pro at least, there are so many little things in the game that relate to the previous game so at the very beginning if you bother to take the time to look around you can see how much detail the devs put into it.

Story wise, a big event happened which took me by surprise and the devs have done so well at capturing the emotion that even i felt like going the direction that she did. i will say at the time of this writing i have not completed the game so i cannot comment on the end of the game just yet but so far i am 13 hours into it and have not found any plot holes or major story issues so that is as far as i can comment..

Game play wise, the AI are a lot smarter and i have never had an AI actually say sorry to me when they have got caught by the enemy so AI wise they flank you, move to find you, and change patrol paths which makes them more dangerous and unpredictable.
There are some open world aspects to the game and i will say the pace of the game is slightly slower than i would like but i would say its not a big issue.
The weapon customization is quite nice and it changes the look of the weapons slightly too which is rewarding.

if you like exploring and learning about the world your in and get really into the story and environment then this is the game for you. if you want to run and gun this and just pay the bare minimum attention to the story then do not waste your money.

The main cons i can see is
1: the stagger, if you get shot or hit by more than one person it can make you stagger constantly which makes it almost impossible to get out of and this results in your death
2: the dialogue is a bit few and far between during game play and fairly short dialogue at that which sucks but so far the cons are so much less than the pros.

IN SUMMERY, i paid for the deluxe edition of this game and i have got more than i expected out of this game and still enjoying it now and will be doing a second play through once i have completed it so my personal opinion is this game is worth it.

Loved this game. Brilliant, gameplay and graphics, and a brilliant evolution of part 1. Imo the story is not quite as good as the original but it is still an intense, emotional, and gripping one that is not what anyone expected.

Truly a worthy sequel. Improves on the gameplay and mechanics of the first game in so many ways. Glad to see a big franchise taking risks in the narrative and personally I loved the direction they took with the story, although some people may find it too raw. It's a shame it's getting review-bombed all over because it's truly a great game to play, even if you're not a fan of the story.

love the video game tbh. I don't know why too many people hate it, maybe because the story telling is not for you. Each characters have their own reason and we all learned something from them. Overall, The Last of Us 2 is a great video game, congratulation to Naughty Dog, great job

The first TLOU was possibly my favourite game of all time- tied with a few other titles - And I eagerly awaited the second game, to the point where I pre-ordered it from Amazon a full 2 and a half years before it arrived at my house. Not only did I love the story, but loved the multiplayer as well. Now to this game. I can understand people’s frustration with how some characters are dealt with at the beginning of the game. I can also understand why some people would feel that ND are just churning out a narrative for the lesbian and trans community. Some of the stuff is a little on the nose in terms of it being obvious that they are doing it almost for the sake of it. HOWEVER, the issues they are putting in the game aren’t imaginary, such as homophobia and transphobia. And unfortunately people who experience this need to have their voices heard, and this includes in being referenced in popular culture. People would not experience or even see issues some of these groups of people deal with without being shown it in games, or movies, or television. So yeah, unfortunately it feels a little bit like naughty dog pushed a narrative, but people need to grow up as there are more important things than you being annoyed at a character being a lesbian.

I enjoyed the twists in this game, and enjoyed the game play. Graphics are beautiful, and the way the world is developed and laid out is frankly spectacular. The story may feel a little forced, and people keep screaming “plot holes” but I don’t think there are to the point that it’s worth writing online articles about.

Overall, I think this game was worth it. Especially if you treat it a bit as a stand-alone game. If you spend your time exploring and trying to find all the collectibles, it is an amazing game. Don’t listen to the people who definitely haven’t completed it, and have already written negative reviews.

In my personal experience, the death of Joel was an impact but did not blind me to hate Abby for the rest of the game. I managed to empathize with her, and enjoyed her just as much as Ellie.

This game shows 2 interesting narratives that could have been more powerful were they played in an alternating way, for example showing flashbacks of the relationship between Owen and Abby and later showing how Ellie kills Owen and Mel. This would have been a bit more empathizing for Abby's character.

Overall, a breathtaking game in what refers to graphics, varied combat mechanics (Though sometimes repetitive at points), and a story that was not perfect, but not garbage either.

I’m not gonna lie, that beginning, and the clever way that marketing made you think otherwise. It hurt, it hurt a lot, but that’s the point! It wants you to feel! And boy does it make you feel. Again, kinda thrown off half way through when you play as Abby. But It is an absolute story must! Not only that! But it opens up the gameplay in a way that genuinely makes sense! Like, come on, Ellie couldn’t rock a flame thrower and do some of the things Abby does. So it makes total sense gameplay wise! I Also came to love Abby she is an amazing character! Every single character is amazing even the enemies! Now on to the gameplay in My opinion it improves on every single gameplay element from the first one and even uncharted 4 as well as adding so many amazing new gameplay aspects and even some awesome “boss” encounters.
