    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part 2 is not the dumpster-fire hell-hole life-ruiner that so many people claim it to be. Most negative reviews I've seen pin most of their disappointment on Joel's death being "out of character" and then being forced to play as Abby. And while I agree wholeheartedly that the pacing of the story is weak, I don't think the story is what's bad about this game: it's the structure of the narrative. I believe that Abby is a great character - had I started playing as Abby in Seattle without knowing what happened in Jackson, I would've been as invested in her as I was with Ellie. I would have seen the way Abby acts around Lev, and I would've seen the parallels to Ellie and Joel.

    I think ND made a mistake by having us play Ellie's story first. Imagine if the game had been advertised as being about a new character that we've never seen, you play the first half as an Abby troubled by her past, you and two kids from a cult escaping a war-torn Seattle and searching for meaning beyond this pointless fighting. Abby has nightmares about her father and how she hunted and murdered the man who killed him. As the game progresses, Abby's friends are being hunted and killed, and the player fears that Abby might be next - when finally, it's revealed that the man Abby killed is Joel, and the person you've been running from is none other than Ellie. Imagine how betrayed you'd feel as the player! You've been invested in this character, you've been rooting for her and Lev, she's gained your respect and your sympathy - and then you find out that she killed Joel?

    ND's mistake is that they never give Abby a real chance to earn our empathy/sympathy. They make you watch as she kills a character you know and love, they make you feel Ellie's bloodlust and hatred - and then they kill the game's momentum and make you revisit someone you hate. And honestly, there's almost nothing ND could have shown me that would make me understand and agree with beating someone to death with a golf club. I enjoyed the story - but the structure of the story is weak, and it kills the pacing of an otherwise phenomenal game.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Alright, I understand why people hate this game and the critics love it. The story of this game is insanely depressing. I have never been so depressed from a video game like this before and I guess that's what naughty dog was going at. The story feel very much like those movies that win Oscars but no one ever watched. It has that European style of story telling, and many people don't like that, and I get it. I personally feel the story was done well for the most part. Unfortunately, Joel died too early with no explanations, making you wait for 15 hours and well into half of the game. They start Abby's story with a bad taste in your mouth with the way she killed Joel and that leave so little to emphasize with her through the game. However, her bond with Yara and Lev is great. It makes her character much like Joel, someone who did bad things but through her connection with kids and ultimately saving them, she finds peace with the death of her father, something that revenge didn't do for her. In a way Lev is Ellie and Abby is Joel. Ellie has do decide whether she can end the revenge cycle and choose the outcome for her self and not for Joel. There are also many foreshadowing scattered throughout the game. Ultimately, this game is a survivor horror through and through. The gameplay is satisfying in moment to moment combat, but the animation do get repetitive torwards the end because of how lengthy this game is. It took me 38 hours to beat it. This game also has great level design and every place feels organic. The visuals again look amazing and the the music is on par with the first game. The voice acting here is top notch with some of the best side characters. Overall this is a great game. It aims high and tries to go big, and perhaps it does to many things at once. The first game did great because it was simple but yet so effective in it's story telling. If the first game was a masterpiece, this is close to that. Hopefully you will give it a shot.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Naughty Dog have proved again that the team are masters of crafting video games across all disciplines. From the incredible direction, writing and performance to the mechanics, audio and visual design everything is given incredible care and detail to create the world of The Last of Us. Much like the real world, the world of the last of us is cruel, unjust and filled with shades of grey. The gameplay is an evolution of the original and tweaked in order to make it more fluid and dynamic thanks to Naughty Dog's use of "motion mapping", wider environments and robust upgrade system and most importantly a more fun game to play all round.

    The story itself is enthralling, brutal, with moments that span the range of humanities emotions. The story doesn't hold back, to do so would be a detriment to the world that Naughty Dog has built and left me as a player questioning conventions of good v evil, heroes v villains.

    Having completed the game, the negative reviews stem mostly from them not completing the game, or wanting things to go their way, but like some of the best stories, the World does not work the way you want sometimes.    … Expand

    Amazing game. Awesome history, wow, some things are fascinating to see how ended. Great level of quality about everything. Perfection is the name. Don't like it? Don't play it. SIMPLE

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Wasn't exactly what we wanted story wise.. I take one point away because of the story and how it was delivered. It was all over the place. It all made sense in a way.. But at the same time it felt forced and lazy. Another point away because I felt like it was pushing political views - which is ignorant and not necessary in a video game.. They really made a point with the - your decision to keep a baby. Your decision to be a gender. Women are better than men. A pregnant woman is stronger than a non pregnant woman. Lesbians are great. Angry / almost forced or drunken sex on a boat is cool. On and on...

    It is a true masterpiece when it comes to the gameplay. That was amazing. Visuals. AI actions. Environments. Mechanics. It was so huge and immersive.. The gameplay was awesome and that can not be denied. One thing that I didn't find impressive was how, all the human enemies looked the same... They all looked like an asian woman in a way. Only a few key characters were different. Also every time someone died they yelled out a basic name like Tom, Dave, Anne, John.. Like every single time... Should have been more RNG, sometimes not saying a name but "oh god" or anything other than a basic name... After the 30th time it breaks that immersion. I am sad my son will not be able to play this game. At least for a long time.. When he was 5 he was beating Part One on grounded mode. It was a fun experience, both of us taking turns beating the game, chasing the achievements.. We played through part one so many times over the years and then waited for years on part 2.. As soon as Joel got hit, he started to cry and left.. He came back later on to see how it was going.. As soon as he seen I had to play as Abby, he said dad this game sucks you can play it and we will just play the first one together.. A child, innocent minded to political views, can understand why this game has so much hate on it.. That should say a lot..

    We had no relationship with Abby.. If they truly wanted to do the story that way, they could have delivered it differently and maybe it would have worked.. Joel killed differently and maybe a choice in the end to kill or spare Abby would have been great..

    El juego tiene el mejor rendimiento posible en las consolas de generación actual, esperando incluso alguna mejora para la próxima PS5, no se presentó ni un solo bajón de fps durante toda la partida y la calidad gráfica es magnífica. La música de este juego sigue siendo uno de los aspectos más llamativos al igual que su entrega anterior.     Incredible, amazing, awesome, can’t put into words just how good this game is. Ignore any bad user reviews because either they haven’t played the game or they are lying. If you liked the first game this basically carries on that story, the gamplay and graphical fidelity are a notch above anything out there . An absolute essential purchase. My game of the gen and PS4’s defining moment.

    This is a beautiful game with stunning game play. It truly is an honor to play and I have so much respect for the creators. Many people dislike the story saying how jumbled it is and how difficult it is to enjoy. I truly believe that the intent here was to make people see how devastating the the path of revenge can be to you, and those around you.     A total Masterplan, I played for 25 hours and I just never saw the point where people said the story went to **** the only thing I might not fully liked is that you had to play with abby when you where in the best part of the story but still, Abby's story got me, so I fully enjoyed and recommend this golden game.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just replayed TLOU1 and Left Behind 2 weeks ago, then finished this sequel during the weekend. I'll give 10 points to all the amazing graphics, level designs, some really cool cinematic moments and all the hard work people have put in making this game. But despite that, I'm giving a -10 for the poor story telling and for cheating us in the trailers.

    There are plot holes all over the game, and the actions of the main characters are simply not self-consistent. What Joel did at the end of the first game was selfish and horrible, but by sharing the same journey through the whole game, I can empathize with him. While in this sequel, I know and understand what the game is trying to tell me about revenge, but it just failed to make me empathize with the main characters and their choices. The closer I reach to the ending, the less feelings I have about this story. Just trying to see how it ends and get it over with. Similar feeling when I was watching the final season of Game of Thrones.

    I really wish this sequel never existed so I could keep the good memories on the fisrt game.    … Expand

    Great game overall. The first half might be my favourite game of all time, but it deeps a bit on the second half, with an ending that is good great and not so great. Overall, this game lived up to the first, which was really tough.

Not gonna lie, when I completed The Last of Us back on PS3, never thought it was gonna have a sequel, like, what would it be the point or goal to achieve for Ellie and Joel? In my opinion, they destroyed the whole script with the ending in the first game so that's why I didn't expect a new game to be released.
    Joel was given a mission which was to take care of Ellie and bring her to the Fireflies' camp so they could make a vaccine wit her blood. During their journey they go through a lot of terrible moments, losses and they struggle to survive in order to achieve the goal set for Marlene. Yes, Joel and Ellie make bonds with each other which is a crucial thing for the game. At the end, Joel's decission was the most important plot twist. He went to another direction to the one he was supposed to. He refuse to give Ellie to the fireflies because she would die, he was selfish, yeah. But nobody cared because people understood him, because I believe we all would probably do the same he did, he started seeing Ellie as his daughter and what he did was "right", Joel was a hero in our eyes.
    But, does that make him a real heroe? In a videogame, probably, because it is so easy to be in the character's shoes. In real life, I bet if we took Joel's path we would be hated and Naughty Dog knows that. Just imagine, same situation as Joel and Ellie went through but applied in this pandemic situation that we are living in (COVID-19). How would you feel knowing that there is one person that has the cure for all this and at the end they just say "no, **** but I can't do this, I can't let this person die to save the humankind, it will be hard for me, those that stand on my way to stop me will be killed." Would you feel ok with their decission knowing that the world will continue with the virus and having in mind that this could have been completely stopped?
    I know, one thing happens in a videogame and the other example is based on real life, but , that's what Naughty Dog was aiming to that in The Last of Us and The Last of Us part II, putting a real life context or sensitive situation in a videogame or at least, trying to make it more real-life like.
    With all that said, I personally feel The Last of Us part II have brutality from the beggining to the end. One person going for revenge. Revenge people could actually attempt in real life if somebody else took their loved ones' life for personal and selfishness reasons, plus, the fact that the death mentioned could have saved the whole humanity if things were different, but they ain't. It is all about that, perspectives, no one is good or bad it all depends on the eyes of the beholder. I loved it from head to toe, it always makes you question yourself about the good and evil and beyond the meaning you give to every single action took in the game, it gives you the chance to experience it in different point of views. Was basically like going in a rollercoaster of emotions where you could not predict what was gonna be the next thing to happen. You started developing feelings with a character and next thing you know they are gone. I loved those up and downs.
    I just wish they would have added more gameplay to explain what happened after Abby encountered Ellie in the theater. Probably they will bring a DLC, who knows?    … Expand

    The last of us part 2 aunque no lo parezca tiene una buena historia claro algunas partes son prácticamente relleno y también una continuación un poco sosa pero a mi opinión es una buena entrega ya que nos da a explicar que es lo que pasó y como la vida seguía después de unos cuantos años, me gusta ver a Ellie con una sed de sangre brutal por haber matado a Joel

    Un gran juego con una historia que la verdad no sentí forzada muchas de las quejas del juego no tienen sentido no es lo mismo jugarlo que escuchar de el yo estaba muy asustado de las quejas tuvieran razón y hubiera desperdiciado mi dinero pero tengo que felicitar a todo el equipo que desarrollo el juego pues es una obra maestra en mi humilde opinión

The graphics, the gameplay, the lighting, the details, the animation... It all pieces together beautifully. I struggled to put the controller down.     while the story of the game is divisive it is brilliant at what it does it makes you emotional and makes you think that actions have consequences especially after the ending while I do have some problems with it like the way they handled his death they should have given him a more deserving death of such a loved character and the way Abby's campaign was forced upon us even though after an hour in you find yourself feeling for her, Liv and Yara now onto the ending although it could be considered a disappointment by some to me it is the most perfect ending succeeding in what it wants to make you feel    … Expand

    Fantastic game! Don't understand the hate it gets. I'ts a dark, depressing story and that's great. Well written characters and a beautiful, hard world to explore. Kept me at the point of my chair until the end.

    Naughty Dog prooves to have some balls with this game! 10/10

    Played without hearing about leaks and without hearing about the negative response from some. Finished it thinking it was the most powerful experience I've ever had with a video game. Taste is subjective, and for what it's worth, I felt it was the sequel I wanted in every single way.

Жму руку разработчикам за титанический труд, если они хотели угодить ЛГБТ, как некоторые выразились, то они сделали это в меньшей возможной мере, к тому же такой химии двух влюбленных девушек я ещё нигде не видел, это было очень мило и как по мне всё было крайне убедительно, актеры дубляжа и захвата движения постарались. Геймеры, сидящие на попе ровно, с кривой осанкой и не следящие за фигурой сразу же начали возникать "а шо это баба такая накаченная ээ, она чё транс ыы" идут лесом, в постапоке я думаю лучше быть накаченным бойцом, чем клацать на джойстик, тем более её ведёт жажда мести за отца. На счёт мести Элли, она правильно сделала, что не убила Эбби, ей и так досталось (смерть отца, верных друзей, сестры Льва, рабство), если кто то после этого все равно хотел её убить, у вас не всё в порядке с головой. Ставлю 8 из 10, геймплей слишком нудный, бежать до кат-сцен и всё, лучше смотреть игрофильм. Many people are simplifying the narrative down to "revenge is bad," but really, what I think the game is asking is "is revenge worth it?" What do we truly gain from harming the person who harmed us? What catharsis is there in perpetuating the hate that caused you this deep rooted pain in the first place? Ellie as a character has never been driven by hate. Her arc in the first game was defined by hope, the hope that the pain and suffering we endure in life means something. The harsh reality that the sequel presents is that there is no reason for our suffering, and that life has no meaning beyond the meaning you make for yourself. In the final moments of the game, we see Ellie finally return to that empathy and hope that has always been in her heart, we see her finally let go of all the pain and anguish that Joel left her with. Abby most definitely added to that pain and anguish, but really her quest to kill Abby was intertwined with her inability to forgive Joel, her inability to escape the guilt of knowing so many died just so she could live, and not feeling worthy of such a thing.
    At this point I'm just rambling, but I urge each and every person who hates this game to give it another chance. Underneath the shock and horror of what this game puts you through is a truly beautiful story that examines the human condition in a way seldom seen in storytelling, let alone in video games. This story will not appeal to everyone, but those who can understand it, discard their positive feelings for the main characters and look at them from the side, this game will shock them. The game is twice as long. The world isn't black and white, you get to see the entire game from both perspectives which given the evidence of... a lot of people can't seem to grasp that concept of. They think because a story doesn't go they're way and isn't ''happy'' it makes the whole thing terrible. Anybody can think of a story that the average tlou fan wants, that isn't a hard thing to do which would be another Joel and Ellie game much MUCH like the first, that would be so predictable and boring.. we already had that and this is the next step in evolution of Ellie's character.
    This is a game that took a massive risk! It doesn't pay off in every way ( about 2 times off the top of my head ) in terms of plot sure, but bravo for being one of the very few companies brave enough to do so! Tbh i don't think the average person is ready to take the harshness and brutality of this games universe which can at times be closer to the ugly reality than almost anything else in media. Too many people think that a sad or a story or a story that doesn't go their own way is a bad story that just is so wrong. i read comments about this game over the internet and it's pretty clear the way they describe the plot and characters that they A. haven't played it B. get the facts wrong C.     From what I have seen and played, it has amazing graphics and amazing gameplay. The only reason I'm giving it a 9/10 and not a 10/10 I'd because it get a bit boring at times but then before you know it gets really fun

Most people criticize the game without substantiated arguments, for being inclusive (criticizing that Ellie is from the LGBT community in this game, when actually, since part 1 in the dlc Ellie shows her preferences and tbh I do not see anything wrong with the fact of having a wide variety of people with different characteristics, backgrounds or beliefs) or arguing that it is a bad story just because Joel does not have an epic death and is not a protagonist as in the first game (it is true that we would all have liked to have another story with Joel being a hero), but really that's the best of the game, it's a master piece with a real and raw story attached to what can happen in such a world as the one in the game, where anyone can die in any way, the game even give us other perspectives of several important events in the first game, also has an amazing quality of the graphics and scenarios, an amazing gameplay and as always take care of even the smallest detail and features, delving into the world where the game takes place, very good soundrack, in my opinion its a very good game… Expand

Here's the problem: People are upset that Joel died, he's a great character, and very lovable, and all the little touches down to the book on his bedside table make his death hurt even more. But the reality is honestly, he had it coming, he made way too many enemies to not die, and honestly when it comes down to it he made a selfish choice at the end of the first game and paid the price within the first four hours of the second. If it wasn't Abby it would be someone else sometime soon that kills him. As for the rest of the story, ya a lot of the stuff that happens sucks, but they beautifully manage to take a person who brutally murders your favorite character and make her rather human, even likable at times, it's a brilliant example of no good or bad characters, only humans, and if everyone would stop review bombing and just play the game I think the reviews would be a lot better.… Expand

    The gameplay is very good, controls great, level design fairly balanced.

    Where the game falls flat on it's face is provide a convincing plot. Essentially the game has you see all of the blow back of Joel basically exterminating the Firefly base. One of the surgeon's daughters is Abby, so from her perspective Joel is an awful person. She's hellbent on revenge which she obtains and experiences guilt. Over time both lead characters - Abby/Ellie - become aware of each other's perspective. The player gets to experience each first hand. Abby gradually grows and tries to make amends by helping Lev and pursue the Fireflies and help restore humanity/society.

    Based on what the game shows us with certainty, Ellie does not grow. After 2 years of living the good life on a farm, she effectively ends her marriage and goes on a weeks/months long quest to California to murder Abby. She finds that she's been emaciated as a slave and tortured for months. Abby still wants to leave it, but no - Ellie like a sociopath must kill. So many times I tried to walk away, and not initiate the final blow because it is so morally repulsive, but the game forces you to to end the game. She ultimately stops short of drowning Abby, but based on her return to the empty farm and leaving the farm, it's ambiguous about whether or not Ellie has grown at all as a person. Only from recent interviews do we see that she does. Had I not had that confirmation, I would have given this game a 6/10 because I have no interest in partaking in sociopathic murder porn. It's one thing to fight for survival or if the enemy doesn't give you a choice, but the game forces you to.

    Based on interviews, it's clear that they didn't make Ellie's PTSD a convincing enough excuse. Abby had PTSD too, but she grew. Also from the interviews - apparently until 18 months ago the ending was to kill Abby - whoever at ND changed that you saved the franchise, it would have been GoT all over again.    … Expand

    Amazing game. Ballsy storyline that the Neanderthals will (and do) hate. The "not my Luke Skywalker" brigade will always attack a story that portrays their "heroes" as flawed in anyway. It's the humanity that means something to a character's arc. The imperfection. The fallibility. This game is brilliant.

I would do the exact same thing they did.

    The gameplay is the exact same as the first one, so if you liked the first game's gameplay, you'll like this one as it's a bit more enhanced and intense. If the game is too easy (like most reviewers say it is) I advise you turn the difficulty up. There are SO many accessibility options that NO one ever talks about. This game is insane with how much you can customize and look in to the options.

    I don't need to talk about graphics. Stunning. Best graphics I've ever seen on any console, ever.

    But the story. This story will only reach a few many. I can't advise everyone to buy this game, cause there is no 50/50 chance you will love or hate this game. I simply can't say it. Based on the reviews that I've seen here on metacritic. There is a 25% chance you will love this game, and a 75% chance you will hate it. And that's mainly because of the bold decision they take right at the beginning of the game. But if you have the balls to get through that, and not turn off your ps4 or uninstall the game, you will go through the rest of the game and see that it's not all that bad. You'll get the CONTEXT needed and by the 2nd half of the game, if you still don't sympathize with one of the main characters, than there's a good chance you just can't/ won't see what the game is trying to do. That is where I believe Naughty Dog kind of failed, and why I'd give this game an 8.5. That, coupled with the BIG scene at the beginning of the game that should've gone down differently. Luckily for me though, I saw where Naughty Dog was going with this story.

    A lot of people may write this story off as some stupid revenge story, but it's much more than that, it's a revenge plot that does something different that I've seen very little people seem to notice. It's infuriating to me, but if you haven't bought the game yet I suggest you give it a try. Don't listen to the crap reviews.

    Notice how the positive reviews are going up more than the negative reviews each and every day because more and more people are PLAYING through the whole game, and understanding it for what it actually is. That's all I'm going to say.    … Expand

    I liked the Story and character-progression a lot. I'm just not a huge fan of the ending. Thats why it isnt a 10/10.

    And im already going into the New game + to get the platinum trophy.

Buen juego, desarrollo de historia un poco flojo, debido al ambiente obsucuro y triste es normal que maten personajes de la nada aparte que este no le da poder de mas a los personajes principales no te dejes llevar por malas criticas, juegalo y saca tus propias concluciones… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Сюжет игры не для всех. Он расчитан на людей с некоторым опытом и мирровозрением. Нас заставляют почувствовать ненависть и злость к врагам, после чего игрок идет к своей цели убежденный в правильности своих порывов. Затем игрока и Элии постепенно подводят к очередным поражениям и заставляют сомневаться в правильности своих действий. Далее в момент шока и недосказанности игрока заставляют взглянуть на ситуацию с другой стороны. Игрок не обязан симпатизировать Эбби но он должен понять ее мотивы и увидеть к чему приводит путь жестокости. Ее жизнь рушиться, у нее остаеться последний человек который ей дорог и нас снова побуждают к мести но Эбби вовремя останавливаеться и видит что после может быть еще хуже. Следом к этой черте невозрата и выводу подводят и игрока. Нам показывают Элли которая осела с Диной на ранчо и они живут вполне спокойной жизнью. Здесь игроком ожидаеться хотя бы какой то скудный хэппи энд но игроку внезапно показывают, что Элли по прежнему не свыклась с утратой и что ее мучает чувство вины и посттравматический синдром. Она снова убежденна в своей правоте а игрок закатывает глаза говоря, что ты только все испортишь, прекрати. Она добираеться до Эбби и на секунду кажеться что Элли отпустит ее видя что враг уже настрадался, но тут снова дает о себе знать расстройство при которых люди действуют импульсивно и необдуманно. Она почти завершает месть но не переходит черту подумав о Джоэле. Она не прощает Эбби. Только игрок возможно проникся если не уважением и симпатией к ней то точно ознакомленн с ее мотивацией. Элли не переходит черту из за того, что наконец отпускает чувство вины и уходит. В конце игрок и Элли ощущают грусть, тоску и пустоту которая усиливаеться пустым домом и очередными разрушенными отношениями из за одержимости человека какой то плохой идеей.
    Так же в игре показанны(максимализированны) типичные недопонимания родителей и детей (Элли зла на Джоела, который ее любит и ею дорожит) проблема как раз этой фанатичности что тоже рушит отношения(Оуен и Эбби, Элли и Дина, Томми и Мари).
    Для меня почему то особенно остро было наблюдать за психологической травмой Элли и ее попытка простить Джоэла как родителя.
    Эта игра плоха только некими мелкими шераховатостями либо тем что этот сюжет не для всех, его нужно почувствовать и понять что он работает так как нужно, он делает тебе больно выжимая и приводя к подобию отвращения, напряжения и отпускания.

    Здесь подойдут поговорки вроде: "имея не ценим-потерявши плачем" либо любимая призсказка всех родителей, которая бесит и меня:вырастишь - поймешь))    … Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
