This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A gorgeous, captivating journey that was viscerally challenging in a way I’ve never experienced before. A tale of grief and healing, foremost, but also a story on the ills of vengeance. How vilification before compassion leads to only more pain, more suffering. How we otherize and dehumanize, both in gaming and in real life. There are evils and there are hurts, but there are no villains. Because this is a tale of the last of humanity, clinging to the only fundamentally real thing left to them; each other. Whether that’s through love, through hatred. Through grief, through joy. Connecting in the shadow of a world that used to be, in a people that continue to struggle onward. It’s not about forgiveness, it’s about the ladder we take to climb out of grief. A harrowing journey that we don’t always do right the first time, because the last step isn’t letting go, or even forgiving, its accepting. It’s seeing other side; seeing that they, too, have their own ladders to climb. Their own hurts to bear. Not only does the game express this narratively, but through the gameplay as well. Through every single step. Every flinch when our knife slides deep, eyes flicking up to us in terror and confusion. Every name we learn and life we take. How we befriend one and kill a dozen more, all while the line between enemy and ally blurs. You question every action, because they aren’t some ubiquitous “them” anymore. They are you. This isn’t just Ellie or Abby or Joel’s story, it’s ours as well. We willful passengers cannot make their choices for them, cannot alter their course, can only guide them along it. It is not something that can be fully realized except through this medium. We are not passive participants, like in a movie, but active ones. It’s more personal. That makes it more difficult, too. It’s hard to feel shame or heartbreak, and it’s hard to feel empathy for the one who caused it.

This is not a game for everyone, but it is in no way a bad one. We are used to these platforms being majority entertainment, but this is...this is more like art. And not the New York interpretive bull that finds meaning in swathes of color, but a true snapshot of the human experience. It is harrowing. It is ugly. And it might reveal more about us than we were ready to see. But in the end, I believe it’s worth it, to connect so fundamentally to others, even when that connection is difficult. We get to see these little glimmers of hope in darkness, like fireflies. They guide us forward, even when so little remains; even when we are swallowed in despair. There is reason to keep going, to try, even if it’s only for the sake of a memory. 9/10

The amount of detail in this game was just insane. As for the story line, I can't see it any other way. There was something special here folks. The emotional rollercoaster ride was something I couldn't even imagine.
There is so much hate from players that did not understand the multilayered and complexity of the story. Looking forward to replaying this a 3rd time on the PS5! Bravo Naughty Dog! Thanks for not doing a predictable linear storyline

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

The ending may upset players that neither understand the story plot that lead to that moment or didn't played the first one. The decision of sparing Abby's life can look like nonsense, but, when you observe the plot in witch Ellie realizes what her and abby's revenge lead to, pain and destruction, she sees what life would be without all that. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My opinion regarding killing Joel at the beginning of the game I think it was well introduced so that it could involve both Ellie's revenge and "Abby's" revenge that in the end wants to seek redemption while Ellie is still consumed by anger, fear , guilt and sadness for what happened to Joel, and it was very impactful, which may have caused many people to have many feelings or not, and regardless of that I know that there are or had many comments cursing and giving low marks because Ellie is a lesbian that it is very sad because there are still people who play the game because of the sexual option of the character and what is shown inside the game as part of LGBT people this for me has no difference is normal remembering that the game is for people over 18 so it does not come with papinho ai pq implement sexuality in the game first the director does whatever he wants with his work and second is a well told story it treats Joel's actions and what he did for all this to happen the fact is the first game was for more 16 ores so there are a lot of dizzy adults with bad and homophobic talk more returning to the subject of the game, the improved gameplay was very good I thought it makes you want to play about it, the graphics are wonderful, the characters some could have put more history in them, nothing more to worry about until they are well involved, there could be more ester eggs more and I like it I’m fissured in ester egg sorry, the expressions are wonderful, jaw dropping in Portuguese is too much I’m Brazilian and the language of America was also amazing. Life is great, but most of the times, life SUCKS!
This game takes place in a apocaliptycal world where you have to fight for your life, to survive.
There are no laws anymore, no rules, no judgements.
You only do what YOU think is right in order to survive, even if it's wrong. But everything you do has a consequence.
What if there was something deeper underneeth the story?
Everything is not all Black or White. Always check the two sides of a coin to evaluate the situation. What would you do in these or that position? THIS IS LIFE...
Sure it can be cruel sometimes but it is what it is. You can be sad for sure, but just take the time to understand or at least trying.
This game give you tons of emotions and i can't say i was impassive trough the events. I felt, joy, saddness, fear, anger, compation, all of this...

For all the haters out there, please, grow up. This is not a teddy bear and candy world. And also, just because a story doesn't fit your vision doesn't mean that it was bad.

Anyway, i had much pleasure playing The Last Of Us Part 2.
The graphics are great and pushing the PS4 to the limits at the end of her life.
The acting is awesome, nothing more to say about it.
Music is a bit less present but the tone is more dark and i think this is the reason.
Gameplay is basically TLOU 1 with better gestion and mastery.
Only a few characters are less attractive because they are less developed.
I personally loved the story, the way it is telled, trough cutscenes, gameplay, flash backs. and NO, the thread is not incorrect.
It has been done on purpose. You have to hate first, then see why, and then understand.
I hope to see a DLC one day, and who knows, maybe a part 3.

    So.
All i have to say is thank you Neil Druckmann and Naughty Dog for the amazing time i spent playing The Last Of Us Part 2

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A true masterpiece. I'll focus on the narrative aspect for this review, because I think few would dispute a 10/10 rating on the graphics/sound side of things. I also think the gameplay is greatly improved over the first game and largely deserving of a 10/10 rating. Anyway, onto the real point of contention, the narrative:

I truly think this game will have a lasting impact on the videogame industry and we'll still be talking about it a decade from now. I think similarly to the first it transcends the medium and changes the expectation for video game narrative.

Essentially it can be boiled down to this question: does a video game need to provide a sense of accomplishment and validation of your actions, or can it force you to do things you don't want to do?

I see it a lot like Spec Ops: The Line, which flipped the narrative by framing your gameplay as horrific, but mostly tormenting you for actions to which you couldn't see the consequences beforehand. Basically the game was asking you to think about your actions, but only after you recklessly performed them. There's a little of Shadow of The Colossus too, which slowly made you realize you were the antagonist, you were the one tormenting the colosses

In both these games the gameplay is still "fun" and you are a willing participant in these actions, they are just painted as cruel narratively, often *after* you've performed them.

TLOU2 takes it a step further by forcing you to perform actions you do not want to perform. It creates your antagonist then forces you to play as her. It forces you to try to kill Ellie, the person you love, the person you are rooting for. It forces you to play as both the hero and villain to *both* stories. It's heartbreaking and difficult, and often it's not... fun. And that's why I think it transcends the medium and takes it to new grounds, in a continuation to what TLOU1 did for AAA storytelling.

It's a breakthrough and a masterpiece, and I can't wait to see how it impacts the industry and what Naughty Dog comes up with next

This game is honestly a 10. I finished it and i'm currently replaying on survivor+. and I NEVER replay single player games but my experience with this game is very different than other story driven games.

I strongly disagree with people who say the story telling is bad. I love the subtle details that i am noticing in my second play through that tie the present and the flashbacks together (like when Ellie finds a guitar in the theatre, she flashes back to birthday). Yes its linear and there isn't much choice, but I like it this way, because they wanted their story to be told as they intended . Its supposed to evoke all emotions but wants you to understand the viewpoints from each side. I think they did a hell of a job to achieve this and glad they took a non mainstream approach to the ending/story.

Gameplay is smooth and very challenging when playing on higher difficulty. AI seems dependent on your location and thus they take different routes. I like the addition of dogs but still hate killing them lol

Graphically this game should definitely win awards. Everything is stunning, even the props.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Guys, games aren't made for happy end, especially when it comes to a game about post-apocalyptic world, they are made to evoke feeling, doesn't matter which ones. In first game you experienced a touching in a good way story, so creator decided to impress you by something, you were not waiting for. Something, that would evoke hatred and anger, wanting a revenge. They wanted you to get mad as Ellie. This character is not destroyed, she simply was in agony. All her decisions weren't made as a stupid move for no reason, she simply didn't see anything except of revenge. So are you. You are not angry because of the bad game, you are angry because this what authors wanted. This game is not bad, it's a masterpiece, because it made you loose your mind, didn't it? I agree, that they could have not made Abbie so... Abbie. I hope Druckman is going to pay attention to this. But that is the only thing I agree with. Relationships between Ellie and Dina, lifestory of Lev fits perfectly in plot. Stop consider every unusual person as a propaganda. At last, there are such people in world. Sry 4 bad eng Expand

Games like this once again show why some stories can only be effectively told through this medium. There are some pacing issues that drag down the story towards the second half, but after another hour or so it gets back on track and is incredibly engaging. I would say hard mode is the best way to play the game, survivor has the best enemy A.I. but requires a bit of trial and error, at least in my experience. It’s very hard to talk about the story without getting into spoilers but most of the critiques levied against this game’s story are easily explained, besides pacing issues which I previously mentioned. Don’t let this game pass you by because of outrage culture and play it for yourself; it is a fantastic experience that I’ve been thinking about and digesting nonstop since I reached the ending. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Okay, so let me start by saying this isn’t the story that I wanted. It’s sad, morbid, depressing, and it sank my heart. But so did Bridge to Terabithia. Both stories are AMAZING. Sometimes a story reminds you that real life happens. Not every ends with a Rocky fist raised. Not every character is Obi Wan Kenobi or Tony Stark, leaving on his terms, saving the lives of those that matter, and embracing the void. Going gently into the goodnight. A hero’s death is a hopeless gesture. Real death...is always sudden no matter how it happens. Every death is Peter Parker in endgame. And thus it was with Joel. I’d spent a lot of time with Joel, across my 4-5 full playthroughs. He was near and dear to me. And in the opening hours, the first 3, he dies. Brutally. By a woman who appears as brutal and primal as the death she handed Joel. She’s a hulking figure, and this brute kills our Joel. And that is the moment many people saw prematurely, or simply turned the game off afterwards, that lead to this game being robbed of the acclaim it deserved. It’s tough to stomach, tough to accept, and on my second play through I skipped it entirely. So heavy are the emotions such a scene envokes. However, if you approach any death or sad situation in a story as “why did the writers do this,” instead of “why did these characters do this,” you will always be upset. The reaction to Joel’s death determines your review. The game shows you both sides, and yet so many people could care less about Abby because of what she did.The way they show Abby and build sympathy wasn’t perfect, the pacing was an issue—what with all almost the characters in her story having already died in Ellie’s—and some parts were just boring (I’m looking at you Awuarium flashback/Seattleday 1) however, it was good nonetheless. Those weak points are mostly covered by highs that I’ve rarely EVER seen in gaming. There are spectacles galore. One of the greatest moments in the game is one I hated the most going into. The theatre scene. You okay as Ellie earlier but then..you switch perspectives. THIS TIME YOU ARE ABBY. And I was PISSED. WHAT??? You’re gonna make me kill Ellie and Dina? No **** way. I let myself die quite a few times. And once I finally decided to just let the story move on—you begin to realize Ellie doesn’t die, and now you’re just trying to kill her. And boy is she hard to kill. What Naughty Dog did here is take all the conflict the characters have right now, and relay them through you in a way that just wouldn’t be possible if Ellie got to beat up on Abby. You’re mad at the devs, why would they do this to you, you feel betrayed, after you’ve already given them a second cha—ohhhh. That’s exactly how Abby feels. She spared Ellie’s life and in return Ellie killed everybody she had ever loved besides Lev. You’re worried about Ellie, just like Dina does, and when Dina jumps in all you’re hoping is that she doesn’t get hurt. And right before Abby can finish the deal, it’s Lev who stops her. It’s gone too far she echoes, just leave it. And Abby does, with a promise that a return means death and you the player definitely believe her. And Ellie tries to but she can’t. She’s haunted by everything that has happened to her. Dina has the baby, they’re living in a farm, life should be good. But in the middle of the night Ellie goes off to complete her quest...and doesn’t. What some people concluded was that this was the game trying to tell you that “blah blah murder bad” which shows a historical missing of the point. So as the fight ensues, while some were waiting to slit her throat, I just wanted it to be over. I felt bad for both characters, and I knew that no matter who left that water, they’d both die. And...neither do. It was...brilliant. Yet again, where some clocked out I fell in love. Ellie goes home to a house empty, which is the saddest thing imaginable. She did all that. But for what? She has nothing, or does she? What I noticed is Ellie didn’t have her bracelet when she went on this quest. It wasn’t on in her fight with Abby. But low and behold...there it is. Back on her wrist again. And she isn’t bruised. And she has no weapons. That means she MUST have gotten back to Dina, and we just didn’t get to see it, to leave us guessing. She isn’t surprised when she sees the house empty. She doesn’t cry out for anybody’s name, she doesn’t shed any tears. She knows the house is empty. She tries to play Joel’s guitar but...three fingers. It’s a sad symbolism of her finally letting go of Joel’s death, and maybe ending the cycle. For now. Expand

To address the story, and how it is not remotely similar to the first game, I contend that the purpose of the second game was supposed to be different from the first. The first was a masterpiece, and therefore should not be repeated last we risk a boring and milked out plot. Therefore the second installment, as it showed, demonstrated another groundbreaking deviation from the gaming norms just like the first. I suggest everyone to play this game before giving their final thought. I understand that it might not be the best game or the game that you asked and expected; however, it needs to be said that this will be a once in a generation success in terms of gameplay, graphics, story, and character development. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ok take a deep breath and just listen to me. First of all I think that the last of part 2 is one of the biggest masterpiecies of the entire decade. I think that the story might not be happy, but it is a huge huge success at telling a deep meaningful story of the humanity and the world that Ellie, Abby, Joel etc live in. What most of the people that disliked the game don't understand and it's really difficult to understand because the only way you can get the story is by knowing that it is a deep really deep meannig that other films and games have used in the past and this way they just underestimate the game. Like what humanity can do and what a person is capable of doing about something that is really meaningful for him.Ellie lost her "father" joel cause he couldn't live without her, let me explain.Joel could't let ellie die because their relationship was as powerful as his daughter's shara and because he lost his trust to the humanity because "humanity killed" his daughter indirectly and that maked him selfish and only caring about his life and nothing else that's why he has killed so many innocent people. I am not hatting Joel but I am just saying that he did many bad things and after getting his daughter back he started a new life and trying to be a better person and forget his past but it was too late to change his character and the thinks he did were not forgivable and what he trying to do was to just not let her go before him and he succeed in doing. Now I am really tired because I can talk about the game the story and the characters litreally foreverthanks for hearing me sorry that I didn't cover some mayor thing such as the character of ellie but I am really tired of writting btw sorry for my english. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The last of Part 2 is an emotional struggle. Yes the story does not go the way that people imagined or hoped it would, but that is what I love about it. It beautiful portrays the hellish reality in which they live. Their motives are scattered and they are lost. Ellie blindly seeks revenge in hopes that she can regain some normality only to discover in the end that revenge will not help her. The characters have become as wild as anyone else they face throughout the game. The different emotional elements the characters have to face creates so many layers of intrigue. You really start to worry for them and feel their dread. How they make you feel the world through Abbies eyes is incredible. It really shows you that living in this world is tough for everyone and not just Ellie. At first you despise Abbie but then you start to empathise with her and understand where she is coming from. This is not just a typical revenge story, their are so many different variables that make it truly fascinating. Everybody has a different opinion on this game and at the end of the day your opinion is what matters the most. And in my opinion this captivating journey, with it’s gorgeous scenery and super fun gameplay has been one of the Greatest games I have ever played. Expand
