I loved the original game (TGC1) but did get a bit bored with it in the end. They've tried to implement a lot of new ideas for this next version and as ideas, they promise a lot. But the execution is a joke and that they think it's OK to put something in a game that isn't even slightly realised shows exactly what this company think about people who pay for a game. Their pre-releaseI loved the original game (TGC1) but did get a bit bored with it in the end. They've tried to implement a lot of new ideas for this next version and as ideas, they promise a lot. But the execution is a joke and that they think it's OK to put something in a game that isn't even slightly realised shows exactly what this company think about people who pay for a game. Their pre-release information has turned out to be nothing short of a con. With claims of features that just aren't there and seemingly they won't even add correctly from what their staff say on their own forums.

Like I said, I loved the first game and had high hopes for this one, to be the best golf simulation game ever. They already had most of the raw materials to do just that with the brilliant course designer, users who love making great courses and gameplay that was decent, if a little easy from TGC1. But they've done such a bad job. They've added tutorials that do the bare minimum and are confusingly vague. There's a new tempo swing, which is a great idea IMO, but in reality with frame rate issues makes the game unfair and impossible to get used to. If tempo being to fast or slow can cause you to hit off the line you aimed, then no matter how straight you swing (which takes practice) you can still see the ball veer off into the rough or worse due to poor frame rate and server connection. You can't allow for a game that's been badly made, so that even a current generation 4k console can't have a smooth swing by going up and down on a controller. This should be child's play for any game and that HB Studio can't do this and can't resolve it, is a complete joke. If you can't swing smooth, you can't swing tempo. And if you can't swing tempo, which the game requires, then you can't tell where the ball will go, even if you do a great, straight swing. Then when you are in the rough, the games inconsistent and unfair. You can't hit good shots out of bunker and nothing like is possible in real life, for even a half decent golfer. You may find the balls gone in the water, not due to your bad swing but bad frame rate on the game. It then can't enact the correct rules of golf for drops and so you just get put back where you hit the first shot from.

I could go on and on about what's bad with the game. But I'd just say at it's core it's a great game, but as a game it's completely awful and HB Studios should be embarrassed at what they done. They've blunted their original game's good points. Promised to add a lot of new interesting features and then failed terribly with almost every single one. Made the game a bit harder (which was needed) but also more erratic and so random it's impossible to play or plan your game in any simulation style, tactical way (which is bad for a game trying to be a pure golf sim IMO).

There are a lot of hardcore fans that will defend this game until they die. They're the ones rating it too high and attacking people on the game studio's own forums. The game studio hardly ever comment on the games failings on there, delete posts that don't even break their rules, but show the game for what it is. A lot of the guys on their forum attacking people are probably staff in disguise, who can't be known to be staff because they'd have to answer for the game's failings. This company lost their way and this game is a sickening cash grab from a loyal user base. Not to pay for what they've added in the new version. But to line their own pockets while releasing an effectively worse version of the same game.

It's worth more than the zero I gave it though. Maybe a 3...... maybe But as it's getting 10's and 8's off people who probably work for HB, i voted it a bit lower. There's no way a game made a shockingly badly as this could ever be more than a 5. Even after the patches they claim will resolve everything. No chance. Anyone who makes a game this bad, has no intention of making it better. Only, perhaps, making it barely playable. 8 weeks in and it still crashes modern consoles (which no other game I've played has ever done) and is unplayable due to server lag at busy times. Which believe it or not is when people are playing (lol, what a joke). Also it dropped 60% of it's original sale price, within 5 weeks of release. This is not a sign of a good game. Only an idiot would argue otherwise. Also this'll be free on games with gold (Xbox One Live) before long. Save your money and try it when it's free

The HUD of the game doesn't properly fit in my TV screen and can't be modified in the configuration options (brace yourself OCD). Loading screens are too long (and annoying). Subpar graphics and customization. You can't even take a look at locked equipment items before unlocking them with in-game currency. Game modes are sparse and uninspired. There's no progression system at all.

I'm mad at myself for thowing my money away in The Golf Club 2. Never again, Maximum Games. Never again.

Once again a developer has released a broken, mess of a game which they are now, 2 days later still working to fix. This wouldn't be such a big issue if the offline offerings weren't so slim. You can't play any single player career unless you're online, so yeah. During the very few times you can play the actual golf there are numerous technical issues. Screen tearing, stuttering, delayed control inputs, it's just broken.

Any good will or faith that this studio developed from the first game is quickly becoming a thing of the past. Do not support this practice of companies releasing broken games and fixing them after the fact. This is an unplayable mess.

for a golf fan, this game has a lot more on offer than mcilroys pga tour. The huge difference being, you actually feel the impact of a shot. after reading reviews about the presentation, i expected the graphics to be terrible. look, they aren't next gen level, but they are passable. the main thing in a golf game for a golfer is a great swing system and this game delivers. brilliant.

After four days of the game being almost unplayable for everyone due to server issues, it's still COMPLETELY unplayable on PS4 Pro due to a backswing stuttering bug and the developers won't acknowledge it or respond in any way.

I was a player of the Golf Club originally and enjoyed it for a while until It simply became stale with it's lack of variety in terms of game features and no proper online multiplayer over p2p. I sat a few days back and thought I'll purchase number 2 because surely after all this time they have fixed the problems from the first game but how wrong I was.

Positives - Lots of courses , Career Mode included in retail release , more customisation.

Negatives - Ok so we'll start with the old problems , low FPS .... not sure what it's running at but like the first game it feels horribly optimised and runs at a very poor framerate on ps4 that's obvious to the eye. Then we have the good old stiff , laggy backswing.... unbelievably this Is exactly the same as the first game , there is nothing different the backswing still feels stiff and laggy which results in numerous shots spewing left or right due to the game simply not being accurate in the stick department. Now I am not showing how they could simply overlook this as It has been mentioned numerous times In the past but it looks like this game was simply copy and pasted in massive chunks from the first game and little tiny things added on to it. This is not a new game from scratch in any way at all and It feels like being robbed in many ways so I'll find it hard to trust HB Studios after this. To end things there is the problem of the worst shadows in a game , no idea why the shadows are as bad as they are but they are truly horrible. Try putting with shadows on the green it's truly a shambles. I honestly cant recommend this game In any way and I am a golf lover and have played every golf game released. Stay away from this until the developers listen to people. Thanks

The first thing I noticed was the lack of instructions, like how to even play the game, what everything means etc. I am still struggling to figure all of this out. I did learn that if you choose the Tour Clubs that it makes it much harder, it took me several rounds to figure this out, it would be nice if there were descriptions as to what the different menu options actually do. The chipping and putting on this game have so far been next to impossible for me to figure out, neither one to me feels "real" for what is supposed to be a simulation game. I am an avid golfer (in my real life) and when I try to swing the club in the same way that I would if I were doing a real chip the ball just goes a few inches, you have to almost do a full swing with what seems like way to much power to even get the ball halfway to the hole, putting is the same way. I don't know, maybe I am just to used to the Rory game. The driving and iron portions of the game are great! I just hope I can figure out how to upgrade my clubs, so far I have been unable to figure that out...again with the lack of instructions. The amount of courses is incredible and they look and play very nicely. There are many features I have not even explored yet as right now I am still trying to figure out how to chip and putt. (yes I did all the tutorials, but once you get in the real game things are much different). I really think once I get everything figured out I am going to love this game. Expand

The Hot Shots/Everybody's Golf series has been the best golfing on Sony systems for many years. Cartoony (and annoying) characters masked brilliant gameplay. Frankly, I tried various Tiger Woods incarnations through the years (PS2, WII & Ps3) and I absolutely hated the mechanics - adding spin while the ball is in midair is just wrong, and too arcadey.

I didn't play first The Golf Club game, but I really love the second one. Swing mechanics are tied to the Right stick by default (but you can make it the L stick if you want), and getting a decent swing is fairly easy. Much like real golf, getting exactly what you want out of a shot is far from easy.

The graphics are beautiful, the courses are awesome and the tournaments are a challenge. I don't really care that we don't get to play against "real golfers" - the game has the PGA license, but getting permission from dozens of pro golfers is probably vastly difficult. And to my mind it doesn't matter, anyway.

The Golf Club 2 is fun - that's the bottom line - and play is fast. You can play 18 holes in 15-20 minutes, which feels just right to me.

It's not perfect. The analog swing can be devilishly difficult to master - especially on puts - but you've got a driving range, chipping practice & a putting green to work with. And, much like in real life, knocking 10 yards off your swing is easier said than done. I wish there was a power meter that could be toggled, or which was a default at lower difficulty settings. Also - the AI will give you club selections which don't always make sense. In heavy rough where you'll get 60% power, max? You'd better pay attention to those details because the club you're given will land you well short of the target.

But these are all small things and overall this game easily deserves 8/10.

Good feature for long game, good graphics, but putting is ATROCIOUS. Pitch shots aren't much better. Unimaginative, way off, dreadful. Long game too easy, short game too hard. Worse game engine than tiger woods 2008 - that’s a LONG time ago - dreadful dreadful effort.

I paid $20 new, it was at least a full year old. The price is key. At $20 it is a fun golf game. The only problem is that the "greens" are not realistic. They are way too difficult and not in any way a real green would play in real life. Thus, it honestly takes away from the overall game. Graphics are great!

Ultimately The Golf Club 2 may land in the rough more than the green, but it has enough about its controls and modes to take a swing at. [Aug 2017, p.93]
