Okay The evil within is definitely your typical survival horror game. But is it as scary as it was supposed to be NO if you have played and horror game in the past and you do not get frightened playing horror games then you will be fine. Yes the game does make you feel tense and that is partly thanks to the environment which is dark bloody and simply gruesome.

Yes the game does make you feel tense and that is partly thanks to the environment which is dark bloody and simply gruesome.

Hiding is one big must for your chance of survival hiding as much as you can and as often as you can is recommended. Stealth walking and not making any noises is another must do to survive and walk past enemies without being detected. and of course looking around corners and paying attention to your enemies movement is again a must do every time.

The controls is a bit clunky and feels like it lags at times but again this could simply be my own experience. At first I found the camera annoying but I quickly got used to the camera movement. The graphics is not incredible and it is not terrible the graphics is fine. The Letter boxing effect used in this game is strange and unusual for a video game but it certainly does not effect the game in any way.

The Evil within might not be a game for everyone but it certainly is a good horror game and if you like these type of games then I'm certain you will enjoy the evil within. And if you get frightened very easily then I'm sure this game will make scare you.

I for one enjoy this game and think it is a good entry into the horror genre is it a game of the year contender I'm not sure on this one but it is certainly one of the best games of 2014.

It's definitely challenging enough and does amazing job by putting you under the pressure. Every surrounding has gimmicks to it and game demands exploration to be good at it. Overall very detailed surrounding only add to it's creepy experience. I definitely recommend it to all horror games fans who want challenge themselves.
The bad - it's a shame but story is hard to follows and lacks red line to connect the dots. Stealth doesn't work like it should sometimes.
Overall it's solid 8/10 game but I gave it 10 because of how i missed games like it.

I didn´t like the ambiance of gore that i saw in the trailers until the game´s launch. But in this moment i´m playing chapter six and I´m loving the game, your story and your terrorific ambiance. It´s one the great games of Shinji Mikami, like RE2, RE remake or RE4. And one of the surprise of this year for the terror game´s lovers.

The EvilWithin is an intense scary game, that does not hold your hand and over power you with endless ammo and weapons.

Make sure you save often. I found my self panicking when I'm near death and I haven't found a save, or check point in a while, but that only adds to the tension, and the fun of this game.
The presentations is fantastic, with a 2.39 cinema aspect ratio this game stands out from the crowd as a very stylized game.
The character design and enemies look fantastic, and the creepy sound and music keeps you on edge at every turn. The lighting is also top notch.
One scene that stands out is when Sebastion is limping down a narrow corridor with a chainsaw wielding maniac on his tail, and the lighting is coming from behind Sebastion, and the shadow of your pursuer is getting bigger and bigger, and the buzzing sound of the saw is getting louder, and louder, only to escape inches away from death, is a scene I won't forget for a long time.
The weapon customization is well implemented, and fun. and lots of reasons to go back and replay to earn the achievements, and upgrades.
A few complaints I have are sometimes the camera placement is a little to close to the protagonist that it makes it hard to see your surroundings.
I love the aspect ratio, but the developers should have went a little wider on the camera placement.
There's also a few texture pop ups, and a few clunky animation, but these complaints are minor and do nothing that take away from this great game.

game is pretty long and its kinda hard, it took me 21 hours to complete it on survival and as well i have 118 deaths so far ~_~
graphics are fantastic, despite some poor texture qualities ( which is due to the engine ) and some frame rates problem which does not bother at all the overall visual Fidelity is really beautiful and fantastic .

Others are dropping 10's to compensate for the 0's... so what metacritic is devolving into is a shouting match of 0's and 10's and no one gives a fair assessment! The game is good, not amazing, but it's good. Shinji Mikami is a legend and this game feels like a mix of REmake, RE4 and a heavy dose of Silent Hill. If you enjoy survival horror then you will enjoy this game! The graphics could be better but they are not terrible like some people have been saying. The controls are tight and are NOT floaty but the camera and viewpoint is. I'm guessing it was made that way to give a sense of clostrophobia but it does get on your nerves until you adjust to it. The game is hard and brutal just the way true survival horror fans want it! IGNORE the haters! Survival Horror is back! Expand

The Evil Within can be a very tense game to play. Not because the monsters are so scary but because death is around every corner, you die a lot!. Which comes at the cost of accessibility to the game. A lot of people will find it hardThe Evil Within can be a very tense game to play. Which comes at the cost of accessibility to the game. A lot of people will find it hard to play and to difficult.

The game has a few obvious problems. The graphics were very disappointing at times, at its best it looks like a good looking last gen game in a higher resolution. At its worst there is clipping and texture pop in, blurry, grainy draw distances.(And an incredibly annoying letterbox aspect ratio), there is a lot of stuff you need off the ground as well as a lot of dangers, limiting the players view was just plain stupid. As it doesn't add anything in the way of immersion or a "Movie" feel.
The story is a bit hit and miss. Its a vague Silent hill style story with an average payoff. But its the atmosphere that is what will keep you interested. As the vague story allows for the players to but tossed from one traditional scary location to the next. Its a bit nonsense but constantly changing locations keeps the game feeling fresh.

I think this game was made for the core survival horror fans, and it succeeds very well. Getting through a few minutes of the game feels like a victory as every part of the game brings new challenges. I really enjoyed the game, when I was swearing and about to throw my controller.

Wow. It has been a while for horror game lovers, like myself, to find games that are truly worth the hours and money spent. This game was definitely WORTH it. It keeps a real horrifying feel to it while maintaining a really great storyline. At times, it gives you that out right "panic state of mind" that a lot of us saw in Outlast. At times, it gives you that out right "panic state of mind" that a lot of us saw in Outlast. The monsters themselves are well put together. The designs for them are real creative. The atmosphere for the game is overall creepy and it does not rely on jump scares to scare you. The only two issues I had with this game was it's melee usage and it's stamina. Overall, the game relies on guns to do the killing. You will come across the occasional axe or whatever but can only use it once before it vanishes. You can use your fists but good luck with that. You can upgrade the stamina like anything else on the game BUT when you do run out of stamina, the game actually makes your character STOP to catch a breathe. Instead of just slowing down (like in GTA games) you actually stop. And yes, even when enemies are right up on you. This has actually gotten me killed once or twice. However, those small pet peeves are not good reasons to not fully enjoy this game. Overall, it is fantastic and way worth the try! I love it! Expand

I hear people complained ng about difficulty, or that the game doesn't tell you what to do enough, well what if this happened to you? Just treat the game like it was real, and you'll do better, fight for your life and don't be dumb and run through everything, just take your time and immerse completely into this dark work of art. Also I have to say I normally prefer 1st person games, but I was a resident evil fan on ps1 up until the 4th one, that's right I didn't like 4, but non the less I couldn't resist a new survival horror ip, I love the way this looks feels and plays. So I guess my final words on this game, if you don't like it then maybe you just don't like true survival horror, go play call of duty instead of bringing this game down, and yes I die a lot in the game too, it just reminds me of the days when games didn't hold your hand and baby everybody, I actually have the if they can see you thing turned off, I think that feature brings you out of the experience. Anyway there's my rambling review, I'm already hoping for a sequel and that they have the budget to let the voice actors for the English version do the motion capture too so they can immerse themselves into it more.
